Wow...good brave girl glot. Take good care and keep leading with the discussions with him, if there are any. If he's trying to lay the blame for this on you then my guess is that what you have said hasnt actually penetrated that far. He will in all likely hood promise you the moon and the stars...and if you do go back...hold him to it. Hold him accountable every step of the way. Don't worry about the wedding plans, just worry about yourself right now. Big hugs.

Thanks Aroha. Hmmm, funky coloured camel and desert canvases I could go for. Might still put it on my list of things to see. Thanks for the feedback. def. put it on your list of places to go to...there are some seriously talented artists in dubai and this is an excellent forum for them to showcase and sell their work

not really bmap, it's more expats selling crafts at Artesouk, so you may have someone doing funky coloured camel or desert canvas's it's not really middle eastern in flavour. Depends what artisans go to show their stuff on the day. The women of Al Ihsan charity normally have a stall...their stuff is quite origonal and unique to here. Theres some decent jewellery ladies, lovely paper crafts and theres a very cool NZ potter who has distinctly kiwi looking pieces...I like her! A guy who puts photos on canvas, or restores old photos, Foods and stuff like that.

I don't feel untethered, I love my life here, and home for me is where we (as in hubby and kiddo) are. But i totally get the not fitting thing in back 'home'. Sooooo not going back there any time soon, and I do love my country. It's just that we have such different life experiences from our peers and the novelty soon wears off.

I don't think it's dementia ;) Grandma, as my mil is known by absolutely everyone, is devine to wind up.she had 5 kids and will go through all 5 of those names when telling off one kid. just about all of those 5 kids have children and she will go through all of those names as well...by the time she has made it through the whole list she is so frustrated with herself for not getting the name that she wants, that the culprit of what ever misdemenor gets off scott free because she has completely forgotten what she was yelling about in the first place! I have ONE child and when yelling I go through a list of names...pets, husband, the neighbours kids and it's not unheard of for me to end up shouting, look, who ever you are, just do it!

you know redrec...back in the days when we thought that another would be not only possible, but just a matter of time, hubby turned to me and said: you know I'm glad we had a girl first because it taught him how to be gentle. He could feel and not just expect a young lad to 'man up' and I know if we had of had a boy he would have been a good father to not just his daughter but his son. He does however like to play the long put upon long suffering male in a house of females, and thoroughly enjoys the sports, activities that our rather mad cap hooligan of a daughter enjoys. (now, we should discuss nature vs nurture!!) I think I get what you are saying, though for me, mother of an accidental only child...it's not the boy, or the girl who I miss, or who could have been, it's the child. Having said that though...when lil miss was born I said to midwife how I was mourning the 'lost child'..the one that could have been but wasnt if it makes sense, because daughter was there? I had carried for 9 months this babe, and then all of a sudden she was, and she wasnt who I expected. She said it was quite common, and that in the pacific islands they wrap the stomach and have a ceremony of sorts. you still welcome and love the child you have, but that child you carried and dreamed of for 9 months is gone.

you got it SJA...on the one hand you just love to snuggle with those little ones and watch them grow, and of course, you are thrilled for your friends...but on the other hand, there is that longing. Like you, we've moved on...but there is still 'that'. And like you, if we were only going to have the one, I'm glad it's the one we got! (most days, lol!)

I have a friend with 5 kids here in dxb, and she does send them to winchester. What else are you going to do? Mind you, #5 is still not quite sitting up, so theres a while to go before they have all 5 in school. (and they're happy with it, and the education the children are getting) She's one of the ladies I most admire in the world...makes motherhood look so effortless, and has the most amazingly beautiful kids. I know the months that we have school fees AND a rent cheque going out mean we live on pot noodles and we only have the one...couldnt imagine writing the cheque for 4 or 5 of them!

We have 4 (gorgeous) children. Life is busy, but we would not change it for the world! Children are only as 'expensive' as you make it. The younger ones have some hand-me-downs,our next big family holiday will be a few weeks camping on the beach in South Oz,our car is an old 4x4 etc. We never had home help in the UAE,nor do we now.We cope just fine. I haven't been in paid employment for 14 years, hubby earns jack s**t & we survive. We don't feel like we are missing out on anything: we are healthy and happy, the kids are well adjusted and to date have led rich and fulfilled lives. in my next life, I'm going to be you when i grow up :)

for a very long time i've been very envious and very jealous of people with 1, 2 or more kids because of my own fertility issues. did that make me ungrateful for being (virtually) baron? DON"T go into it with her...puhleeeeeze!!!! I swear, you'd be better off battering yourself bodily against a brick wall. Us ones with our one and only's not through choice or desire know exactly that feeling of envy and what we go through to get to a happy place and that never ever takes away from the love and gratefulness we feel for being blessed with our 'just' one.

I'm one of three girls. My older sister has two boys. I have two boys. My younger sister has two boys. My mother spent the last three years urging all of us to go for a third child in the hopes of having a granddaughter. My older sister is now pregnant again....with a third son. We're all still very happy. Pink babies in our family are few and far between (that would be hubby's lot, not mine) and we have one of the treasured and highly unusual pink jobs! One of my sil had 3 boys and 'accidently' fell pregnant with number 4 after vowing and declaring, no more!....another blue one. Blue ones every where. Still, another sil is due in july and we're having a surprise...everyone has their fingers crossed for a pink one, but what it comes right down to is: so long as it's happy and healthy, no one really cares one way or another. All the babies in the family are treasured.

What I found interesting, is that it isn't in actual fact illegal for women to drive. It's just illegal to drive without a saudi issued license, and they don't issue them to women. So...she has been arrested for going against 'norms', at 3am in the morning. What will she be held for do you suppose?

This reminds me of a time that my man was training for Denali (big mountain in alasaka). You have to haul your gear up it for the most part in sleds, so himself decided that a baby bath full of sand along a 20k stretch of beach in NZ would be great as part of his training. 20kg of sand in baby bath attatched to ropes, attached to him and 30k on his back in the pack. The people who walked their dogs etc along that beach used to cross about a kilometer out of his path just to avoid him as he looked as mad as a mad thing. bless. Must let him know he's not the only 'crazy' about town. edited by arohadxb on 23/05/2011

have you tried the spelt bread at spinneys? Who knows whats in it, and am not even sure it has it on the package (it's one of their own breads) but it is as close as I have found to good old vogels bread back home. I'm with you on the bread maker breads...all comes out a bit sconey for my liking and am far too lazy to bake my own.

Thanks. A teacher of English may well earn that salary but there would be other perks too like free education in the school, housing etc. Given the travel involved and the level that you are pitching, I would say that salary is far too low. edited by SwissGirl on 23/05/2011 A young teacher maybe. ETA I assume we are comparing to a British school. I am well aware that other schools pay much less. edited by Lady Bubbles on 23/05/2011 we can assume too that some british international schools also pay less.

Never. I'd think he was having an affair if he started with all that. Nothing has changed though; he's always been an undemonstrative, unemotional pillar of stone. His reasoning is that he wouldn't be with me if he didn't find me attractive so that should be good enough. :( think we're married to the same bloke.... Doubt it, I know he'd never have an affair 'cos dealing with one "mentalist" is enough for him :D substitue 'crazy lady" for mentalist and i'm going to start thinking hubby has a twin. :D

No, see thats just another thought you can try and put out of your head. Depression has nothing to do with what you do and don't have...it's a shortage of a chemical in your physical make up. It's an illness, and just like the flu or a broken leg it can be treated, and should be treated with out the feelings of selfishness or guilt. Exercise can provide a healthy dose of endorphins that will naturally boost you, so enjoy your walk. Then call the Dr for an appointment...you can take a many pronged approach at treatment simultaneously...natural, talk therapy and medication.

I detest malls, but it has been a while since I had a 1year old. You can fall out of bed and still in your pj's (yes, we do do that!) head to one of the open beaches. It's still lovely there at 6 -7 o clock in the morning, and right now that water hasnt heated up too much so it's still refreshing. You can do at least until 9 without cooking yourselves, take breakfast and have a picnic. Alternatively...head down in the evening for a picnic dinner...though I prefer the morning. Childrens City down by the creek. Dolpinarium.
