whatever you do, don't use confetti in the bed. Friends did that on my wedding night for us, and 2 years on, on the other side of the world we were STILL finding confetti in odd places! (Actually, kinda sweet and funny, lol)

google it, read an article the other week and it was saying that it's outlawed in several countries, but for life of me i can''t remember where i read it to reference it. I only say that as several health 'guru's' recomend it highly for a natural sweetner when trying to lose fat.

we don't have a half term this term...just straight through to end of year. So have been preparing all the arts and crafts for the summer days...loads you can make and do with little ones that don't cost the earth and it means you don't have to leave the house either. and SD...stop torturing yourself will you! kids will be fine.

I'm with wuffles...I like my hands. They're ragged and chipped and wrinkled and calloused, stained with paint, covered with food and are the things that provide for my family, all the love, the discipline, the work. They gesture alot and talk for me when i struggle to express myself. Yup...really like my hands...they look now like they are everything they have ever done.

taken totally out of context jewels middle, as per. They were given ONLY the colouring mat and crayons, no cutlery. You cannot comment on the mat without including the lack of cutlery and then deem that her expectations were too high or out of the ordinary. And as I said, the poster had a reasonable expectation given her previous dining experience with the resturant to expect wipes, not fiddly bowls of water in which to clean up both her and her husband but several children as well.

but jewelsmiddle....it IS cutomary to be given cutlery, even for the small children, or do you expect them to eat with their fingers? If you read carefully for a change you will see that the poster had dined at the resturant before...so yes, she had reasonable expectations of the service and the quality of food she expected to receive.

the kind that just has the bed on the top and space under it? Yep...lil miss has been in hers since she was 5...or 4 actually now I think of it. No incidences. Though she did choose to sleep on a mattress on a floor for some time under the actual bed. It has that high side, so they can't really fall out, and at 7 i think they can manage that ladder perfectly well. edited by arohadxb on 22/05/2011

If children are restrained from the first time they travel in a car it becomes normal. In full agreeance with this! My kids have all been strapped in from day one and now the older two strap in the younger one for me as they know its mandatory and the car will not take off until they are all strapped in! my brother told his kids that the car's ignition is directly linked to the seatbelt clips and unless all of them have been properly secured, the car wont start. years later, as teenagers, his son took him on on that one (obviously having figured it out along the way) but did add that he'll use the same line with his kids one day :D Like :D All of this, but especially dikane's bro! lol! My dad said the same thing to us as kids. We had a stand up row on the day of my wedding as he was driving me to the venue. My blimin dress couldnt really be belted around and he wouldnt even drive literally round the corner without the belt on me. Halirious! That said even in NZ with it being law, huge advertising on the dangers of not wearing belts and unrestrained kids we still have an alarming amount of road deaths every year where a seat belt would have saved lives. When I was in labour even, with lil miss and having a wee trundle around the hospital I saw a family leave with the new born and car seat (hospital wouldnt let you leave with out seeing the car seat, checking it over and witnessing that you could safely strap baby in) mum and bub got in the back seat and the car seat was popped in the boot. So even with our nanny state there are still people who 'know better'. Keep up the great work Red, it's the first step in a long road and you are doing brilliantly.

On my way home from Ibn Battuta tonight, I saw some idiot woman driving along with a child, probably about six years old, in the front passenger seat. No seatbelt on, leaning forward onto the dash. The driver had her seatbelt on. Sadly she didn't stop at the lights when I did, because I would have loved to hear her answer as to why the child didn't need a seatbelt and she did. Redlesley, you have mail re the stickers - if you need me to dish them out down my end of town I'm happy to do so. I still have a few left over of the stickers too if anyone wants them?

as the mummy of a very nosey kidlet, at 8 weeks we were attending our local play group...as much for her to bounce around on my lap excited at all the littles playing (like potaoes...if they aint in your house being peeled, other small people are quite stimulating!) i have to say we when we arrived here, there was nothing...(and anne at the wafi playgroup btw was a nasty piece of work.;..jolly good if your child lay around on the floor goo-ing at the ceiling, good luck if they got mobile or over the age of 1.) Mums need company, human adult company and lil bubs will come to no harm at all being stimulated by outside influences....what harm ladies? Plunket for the kiwi girls? designed so we have support and company and US not just our little suasage like babies can benefit. to the OP? Jebal Ali church has an excellent playgroup, and you will meet a load of mums. hth

Now that your daughter is on the mend, you have time and space out of the absolute adrenalin mode you must have been in for the previous 10 months. So your body, which has been producing probably overwhelming seratonin to help you do what you needed to do and be for your daughter, has gone into overdrive and can no longer produce enough. Off you go to the doctor...for extreme cases it's not unusual to be prescribed an anti depressant (stupid name really, but it will replace the seratonin until your body can do so again naturally) and the xanax for stopping the anxiety attack in its tracks.

Not sure why a Dr has prescribed you the full on drug it to hades and back xanax straight off the bat. However...it will make you sleep, and probably right through your anxiety attack which may be enough to break the cycle of them. There doesnt neccessarily need to be anything 'wrong' to suffer from them...you'll have some kind of chemical imbalance that is setting them off. There are natural ways to start righting that balance...exercise is one for a natural endorphin high, and good exercise will help you sleep too. Check with a Dr about St Johns Wort, or Evening primrose Oil, natural supplements that can help with hormonal and chemical imbalance. Change your bed time routine, lavender scent, warm quiet bath. What do you eat before bed? Maybe that can be looked at and changed? Some foods set off vivid dreaming that could cause you to wake very anxious. Caffiene intake? Chocolate? Cheese? Personally, I'd pop myself off to another Dr for a 2nd opinion before taking the prescription.

if he has suggested counselling, then go to it Jane...it means he wants and needs to discuss it, and it will be a fair, level discussion ground. If he has bought it up (and as you said, a lot of his reasoning sounds a bit 'lame',) then it almost sounds like he wants convicing and a counsellor seems to me to be a non biased either way place to start.

I don't know what i would do. I know what I have thought i might do at varying different ages of my life. I have very good friends who have actively chosen to not have kids, one friend indeed it was a criteria for the relationship with her now husband....something I really struggled to get my head round as she was destined if ever anyone was to be a wonderful parent. I have another close friend who is a step mum to now grown up kids since they were early teens, but again...more children were out of the question. ALL of these relationships are strong, enduring and love filled, and all the women involved are secure in their decision to not have kids even if that was not how they origonally envisioned their lives. So, it really does come down to you and what you can live with. For myself? I always saw my life as filled with lots of children...we are lucky to have our one. And know ourselves to be. While my hubby was an "i don't mind if we do or don't' fence sitter, he comes from a very large family and adores our one and only. However, when it comes to adding to the brood through adoption we have hit a couple of hurdles, and most interestingly one of the quiet ones is me. While I love that child and am blessed, grateful and lucky to have her in my life...i don't really think I am cut out to be the earth mother of my fantasies, and now of course...I'm too flaming old to contemplate those endless sleepless nights with anything approaching enthusiasm. So, I guess what my wee ramble is getting out...try and get on the same page, but do know your page will change as you grow.

I have to totally agree xmas baby!! Its just a no no....Aside from the genetic deformation that can happen....(apparently...dunno..never tried) its just wrong and disgusting and illegal (in Irl and Id imagine most western countries) and eewww....no....u just dont marry your cousins!! Yuk!! (I really do like my cousins..male and female...but not for marrying)!! :) This is hilariously ill-informed - the US (some states, not all) is the only Western country to have a ban on cousin marriage! And yes, there are raised risks of producing a child with a genetic defect in a cousin marriage, but according to recent research (basing this on the very detailed and interesting Wiki entry), it's at the same level as it is for a woman having a child at 40 or older, and I don't see anyone arguing for a ban on older mothers. Get real, guys. You may not fancy your cousins, and if you grew up close to them, they may feel like your siblings, but it's considered entirely normal in many cultures (I gather it's v. common in the ME), and if both parties are aware of the genetic risk, and can test for problems in advance, why on earth not? Because it is common here, and because you can't test for abnormalities for obvious reasons here, these cousins, desended from cousins are producing kids not just physically malformed but mentally impaired as well. and that goes for a lot of the kids who are still mainstreamed....they wouldnt have that opportunity in a western country but neither would they fall through the cracks of an education system not geared towards their very special needs. Cousins are taboo, the relationship is just too close where we come from (NZ). though having said that...my mother married her brothers wife's brother, and then their sisters married two brothers too...and thats just a tinsey bit weirdo even with no chance of children from the unions.

You make friends among parents who have kids in the same activities, or neighbors who live in the same compound. sorry but neither of those has worked for me.... great if it does, though... yeah, location coincidence and kids in a common school as a criteria for friends? great if it works for you, but not for me.

welcome to your welcome to dxb. The 'real' chicks are out there, and most of us remember what it was like trying to find our friends in the begining...and then again and again when they left dubai, or we had some failed friendships. Persevere...life becomes a whole lot rosier when you have your 'posse' and then your hubby will be annoyed because youre never home and he has to cook his own dinner again rather than you leaping on him as he walks in the door desperate for adult company ;)

just asking as the colonoscopy's are done in the endro suit, and the gastro guys office is near the psych office. wouldnt have a clue how it all works, nor what my dr 's name was there. Surgeon was cool, though on follow up at 'home' it turns out he performed an antiquated procedure (very well) but there was another way it could and probably should have been done to gather yet more info in the hops of avoiding further intrusive procedures.

His inability to see whatever he's looking for, despite it being bang smack in front of his face. 4. His inability to complete a job properly. Tidy up after dinner? That means clean the sink too, and wash up the big bits that don't go in the dishwasher. Bath DS? That means put his dirty clothes in the washing basket, put dirty nappy in the bin, empty bath and put away toys. Do the washing? That means empty machine when finished, hang out clothes, remove from line and bring inside when dry. I could be here all day. Why can't they just be perfect like we are? :D I had no idea my him indoors was married to and sharing the love with so many women.
