meh simples...all children, as you know, can make a mess with thin air and not much else...so it doesnt really ring true as a proper reason. (cept Sanndy Dogg who can't get ink out of her kids uniform may well disagree with me entirely!) I know we had to 'graduate' to using ink, but that was back in the dark ages and we probably had to share a pen between 6 kids. hmmm. Is it one of those mad hangover type things like 6 generations of woman roasting a leg of something in two pieces, and it turns out great great (etc) grandma only had a tiny roasting dish?

Unawatuna is really cool...is laid back, relaxed, safe...also has a decent reef, so while surfing is good (and good for learning) the bay is actually far safer (for small people) than the rest of the coastline. Lots to see and do, and lots of places to do absolutely nothing but relax, eat and drink. Great almost Thailand pre it got popular feel to it. Thats awesome news about the new road...have spent upwards of 8 hours before stuck on the old one ;) (peak local holiday and election traffic)

Redesley put it alot more tactfully than I would have done. I simply cannot understand the mentality of people who stay somewhere but are thoroughly unhappy. So fed up of moaners...if you don't like it, go home. I wouldnt have called Reds post tactfull at all. And the 'if you don't like it leave' brigade really gets on my wick. You have no clue what circumstances some people are in and for what reasons they may be forced into a situation that is not ideal or that makes them extremely unhappy. While Victorian does sound bitter and thats not an ideal way to be or to veiw a goodly chunk of her life, a little empathy would go a long way. It's dreadfully sad that someone should be feeling like that. Dubai isnt the city of all thats gold for some people and I think any body with a shred of intelligence should be able to acknowledge that without forcing their smug wonderfullness on people. talk about whack a woman with a stick while shes down

What an inutterably sad post. I wish you all the best for the future and trust that life at home turns out to fullfill all your desires. I can't help but hope that as time passes you will be able to find some value in the four years you have spent here and that it will feel less of a waste to you.

lol Dan lou...it's still makes me smile. Particularly the s3x talk...basically covered the mechanics, the virtue in waiting and what 'real love' was and then promptly told me that it made you fat. His 'theory' was that everytime you had s3x the body thought it was making babies so it prepared itself by putting on weight. he figured he had his teenage girl sussed :D

I'm with cheekymonkey on this...lil miss has known about periods etc (though I'm avoiding the whole actual s3x thing because I am a wimp!) for practically forever. One of the joys of me never being able to go to the loo alone I guess ;) We just use words/language/concepts that are at her level of understanding, and as the years go by that changes. I live in hope that by the time all the changes bought about by growing up actually occur that the 'talk' will be an organic thing. Lil miss is pragmatic about the whole thing to date, and I do hope that by being open all her life will mean that she will never feel she can't ask or talk to me about anything. That said, she is just 7 so i have a whole lot of learning to go before any of my theories are put to the test! We have had some embarrassing moments when she was a teeny...showing taxi drivers the contents of my handbag and being explicit in her terminology, springs to mind. One thing my dad did when he was doing the 'talk' with me and in actual fact, all the talks, was to have the talk take place while we were doing something else. we were painting a fence for the period talk, scraping window sills for the heavy petting boyfriends talk and something else for the s3x talk. it gave us something else to concentrate on, but also made talking easier for some reason. It's a bit of an old fashioned approach I spos, but it worked for us. It may be an approach to take if perhaps talking about such things doesnt come naturally to you.

Q - how many EW does it take to change a lightbulb? A- - one - why is she not asking her DH to do it - what do you mean, ask her DH, just because she's a woman she can't change a lightbulb? get into the 21st century - what has she got a maid for if she needs to ask this - who said she had a maid? - I looked up her previous posts where she said she was using a maid - that might have been her neighbour's maid not hers - doesn't she know that's illegal - why has she moved here if she can't follow the law? - and what are you? the ew law police? - that was not her maid, her maid got banned last year for smashing lightbulbs while trying to change them - how do you know so much? are you the OP with a different user name? etc etc *like*

What I cannot get my head around is: that people are welcome in your home that you can't have full and frank disclosure with. Friends, family and random strays...your house, your rules (or shedule) apply. If they are not aufait or happy with that, then they can get those blessed all inclusive flights to RAK and stay there and if they want to see you they can invite you in as a guest. Sounds tuff, but you are not a hotel...they're either there to see you and enjoy your new city with you or they are being plonkers and deserve their hotel with no babysitting services. Wish then well and move on...no one ever said your house was to be the new B&B branch for all and sundry in the ME

yeah yeah...as the prolific EW 'witchfests' are SOOOO prevelent now (and they were pretty mythical back in the day when a new poster would be genuinely terrified in joining the board. *yawn yawn yawn* Ew is what it says on the box, any enteratinment value is purely secondary to what it proclaims is it's primary function...an information board. While I couldnt care less if am 'thanked' for info, I have to say I have become less inclined to post, and part of that IS manners, so I do get your point Amy. Why should I waste my, I am not a typist, struggle with the written word time, to articulate often impossible points of veiw? (though I do make sure that some one 'better' than I am has covered what I would consider my salient points) Any 'relationships' we've built up on here over time are just icing, and sometimes the pure cake for why we stay on board...just thats not recognised as the function of this forum. And just for laughs, most of us DO consider EW better than google even if we remember our manners,so you can kind of excuse to a certain extent some folk who treat it as a search engine. AND I do wonder if some of the one post wonders, get my answer and never come back people are actually men? Most I know would never even think of returning to thank the search engine for the answer they needed.

Hi Tash! Cant believe youve left already! Nice for you though to be home Im sure. Thanks anyway - I know you would have helped :D Thanks also to Aroha and Debliz! Debliz - please feel free to email me if you manage to find any bits ;) Aroha - they have a few things which have been lent to them which theyre using (on a "when you can buy your own, then return the borrowed item" type scenario) for the moment, but thanks for the kind offer! We'll solve the worlds issues over a glass of vino in the near future though and once your container FINALLY arrives, if you happen to find any odds and ends, will grab them off you down there :) Little birdie told me that a ship sailed into port today with my house on it...tres delighted :D With any luck the next time we try to sort out the tricky world over vino it will be sitting in my garden! Away this weekend, so see you the next and hopefully by then will have a few useable bits for the young couple.

I have a dell, and I *know* I have manually reset the time/date before, but can't now. It is as you say, a restore point hasn't been set and when I follow the instruction to creat one now, nothing happens. Most of the diagnostic tools/system restore/recovery options don't seem to work in safe mode and I cannot even open windows in normal mode as my user profile fails to log on. I *think* it backs up itself automatically otherwise. Any clues? Or does anyone know if your tariq the computer fixer upper is still around?

I'm with LT on this...the school is in LP, obviously the child was disciplined (rightly or wrongly, your meeting with the Head will hopefully figure that out) and the break of school rules was obviously serious enough to warrent a request for a meeting with you. If school phoned me to tell me during the day, before a detention or isolation (whatever that is) took place, I would be very surprised and also assume that PC idiocy had run amok and they weren't effectively doing their jobs. The fact that the school has actually called you, underlines to me the seriousness of whatever has taken place. I'm assuming the link between you paying fees is in regards to your child missing out on 4 hours of school work that you have paid for? Well, thats a consequence isnt it? Most actions have a reaction and a consequence. None of us would like to hear that our child has been acting in such a way to warrent discipline, but, personally I can't blame a school for carrying out a disciplinary action if it it's required. We sign on to a school for their ethics and standards and am pretty sure if some one else s son digresses against your own son you would rightly expect him to be reprimanded as appropriate. I don't know the age of your son, but most kids don't accept 'blame' for the actions til taught, and some can be wrongly found 'guilty'...whatever the story, I am sure you'll get to the bottom of it tomorrow.

Hi, I have recently relocated from Australia, where I work as a professional full time artist, oil painter. I am trying to find where I can buy large quantities of professional quality art materials, esp for oil painting. I have been to the large Emirates Trading in Karama, but found them to have very little, most of the shelves were empty of oil paint & mediums ( could have been low stock?) Does anyone have any other suggestions? Many Thanks :) they have a branch at I think it's called bin sougat in deira, and a small branch at ductac in the MoE. If the large one is short of stock though, they are waiting on a shipment. Best rule of thumb is to but loads of stock when you see it.

Could be quite true, Daza. Is why I thought I would mention alluded but at the same time unfortunately Princes_I did say bikers need their head examined. My response is a bit t*t for tat, I admit. Just a shame that people who work in the medical profession seem to refer to bikers as donors when there are lifestyle choices which cause more deaths (smoking, unhealthy eating etc etc) and they don't seem to get the attached label. Purely fighting the bikers' corner  ;) edited by wj731 on 18/12/2011 purely because a smoker/drinker/obese eater isn't exactly donor material? Y'know, what with all the cancer ridden lungs and incapable livers...the word 'donor' is used for a reason.

Well, if it's my old house in the Meadows, the first people are the poor, honest agents just trying to rent the house. The second people are the ones that tried to hijack the rental by telling the LL to rent the house for more than it's worth (and who are no longer allowed into the house - and I told them to find their sign in the Gulf) and the third agents are the ones capitalizing on the second group of thieves by offering to rent the house for far, far more than it's worth, but hoping some poor sap will agree to pay what the second group told the LL they would get for it, thinking it's a bargain. You aren't looking in the Meadows, are you? No, it's not your old house hon. But that does sound like the same scenario...so LL is being lead along by agency 2 and 3. oh yay. this'll be fun.
