But...but...but...unheated water and a sea breeze! far too cold for that type of malarky! Lol - was in the desert last night and it was baltic...... obviously something wrong with the car's thermometer as it was saying it was 15 degrees...... even sitting on the fire it was cold :) THE cars thermometer? You know thats a little man under the hood randomly picking temps, right :) And one of the worlds greatest pleasures is sitting with your feet buried in the fire pit when you wake up in the desert, bliss.

The young recovered druggie one wasn't on form last night, I cannot stand the other young fella, needs a job in a vegas croon bar or on board a cruise liner. the other two were absolutely outstanding last night, awesome song choices and great performances.

Izzy, not the same I know, but i had orthapedic surgery to my arm and wrist just last week and due to a chest infection had it 'awake'. It was a 3 hour surgery and fairly involved. They used some type of block near my shoulder blade that basically paralysed my entire arm and kept me loaded with morphine so I drowsed and even slept through the procedure. You're given what they call at the hospital 'happy juice' ;) to start the whole procedure off and it really is not traumatic at all. Just be pleased your gran is at home and can get decent after care and pain relief, something a bit thin on the ground here. Even with her alzeihmers it won't be scary for her I don't think. (if I can do it, the worlds biggest sook, so can anyone) hugs, not cool news huh? x

that big place (is it sharaf? name escapes me) at Timesquare have them. Theres a place at the geant end entrance of Ibn that sells them. Unsure of prices, but the sky is the limit I would have thought depending on what you want. We just bought an edu-science one for lil miss' birthday at toys r us at timesquare, which is perfectly good for the type of star gazing we will do with it. it was 400dh, which we thought was a great price as we'd been dreading going looking for them. Also picked up a solar system atlas at the big book store in dubai mall to be starting out with. hth.

Seeing as we're on the topic of contact lenses and glasses, where do you all buy your contact lens solution? It's a rip off here! 50/60dhs a bottle! Back home you can find it for the equivalent of 30dhs max! hubby changed to daily lenses here as his eyes got fried using the ones you store in solution...did considerable damage whilst he worked that out. Also he was advised to alternate bewteen contacts and glasses.

At least the navy personell were heading home for this christmas, and that just gives you the warm fuzzies. so bump for the military folks.

The wave actually has an onsite office for lets/selling as far as I know...most of the agents we have come across have a few places in the wave as well, but they will tell you that they're as 'rare as hens teeth'...best if hubby can go to the site office i think unless someone comes up with a better contact. I had a friens who had her child in TLC and her exact words were, she would have LOVED to have kept her there far longer, I've chatted with teachers etc round and about the region and none have had a bad word to say about TLC, so am surprised with negative reviews. Fingers crossed, we'll sign on our place this week, phew!

I find that whenever we go to Europe we seem to bleed money in comparison to here, but when we go home things like eating out is far more reasonable, particularly with wine etc. A lot of things in the grocery trolley are cheaper (steak) or on par with home...i think we say things are expensive here because in 5 years we have gone from filling the trolley for a week costing us 400dh to filling for the same at a cost of 1200dh. I havent been 'home' in over a year but even then I was absolutely shocked to find that a trolley load of groceries was nudging $600, and that wasnt with any rubbish or alcohol...just staples and meat/ veg etc. So food is on par as well. As for toiletries, my mum uses Oil of Ulay and always buys it here because it's a 3rd of the cost at home. green-ish your post sounds like us at home 5 years ago...how do people on lesser salaries get by? It's no wonder I keep reading articles about growing poverty, and as for being able to own your own home...

I have never been able to understand this scam, surely anyone spending 5k would want to try the goods on! I won't even buy a 50 dhs T shirt without. Hi, After meeting with them at the car park, they went into the mall and he tried them on in Ibn Battuta. He liked them. He really struggles to find suits that he likes so he thought it was a good deal. so your issue is? he got ripped off how?' You like you buy....you can't then cry wolf and ripped off after the fact if hubby is indeed happy with his purchases. Do you mean to say, he feels he paid too much and now cries foul? after the fact? Sorry, he got 'sold' and now can't call it a scam regardless of legalities...they didnt hold a gun to your mans head. Sorry 'Scam' may not be the right word here. English is not my first language. Others below got the gist of what I am upset about. which is? your hubby bought goods from a carboot in the mall and now says it's a scam? Forgive me...but being dopey doesnt make anyone else a criminal. If it is not a crime to sell some dodgy suits in the name of Armani, or other designer names then why are they catching the guys in Karama and arresting them? None of this is correct. The sellers are out there to deceive people, my DH has been told off for buying them and believe me I am going to continue to give him a hard time about it for the next few days. I do not support this type of selling/buying transaction and that's what I am upset about. This is what this thread is about. Hope all clear now. You may not support this type of transaction, and fair play to you BUT your husband DID. He got involved enough to engage, to go back into the Mall to try the suits and he bought them! In full knowledge of what quality they were regardless of what 'name' was on the label. He BOUGHT them in what sounds to me to be a drawn out thorough transaction...sure, not legal, maybe, not ethical, but he still bought the suits. He can feel foolish, and has maybe learnt a lesson (as the next few days with you in his ear calling him all kinds of fool will surely ensure) but he still bought the suits. It's the same as me going to any store, buying something and then getting buyers remorse..legal or not. These 'scams' have been around for YEARS, bad luck on hubby getting caught out, but he was the one who parted with his cash. as I said, no one put a gun to his head...why do you think these guys still operate? because as a venture it's not successful?

to my mind, the 'save me' song that the bottom 2 finalists is just that...the song they should be judged on by the judges, who are there to do just that, judge. wee rachel rocked her socks off and put in an excellent performance for that song. even l.a said that without his personal obligation to his singer, his vote would be towrds her. is it nicole, the judge who completely wimped out and then put on the emmy award crying fest performance...she should have been escorted off and reprimanded for not doing her job properly...what a cop out. and all of thats is despite my feelings that rachel may be too young and has not quite right song choices made for her to this point.

If it's any consolation my dad reached his wits ends with me and beyond many many times and he still can't believe to this day that the minute I left home I became a tidy organized human being :) (sort of!) Absolutely nothing he tried worked and he was a psyhcologist. One memorable attempt was to warn me that anything left on out of place/on the floor by the next day would be gathered up and given away (this was an 'at his wits end approach', lol!) and sure enough everything was gone. Nothing worked, but I don't remember being willful, or stubborn or angry or even being messy on purpose...room was just a natural pit, I knew where everything was and it was like a cosy nest. Thats not a lot of help is it?

what is it about kids and little itty bitty small things? Drives me mad. And I'm pretty sure they breed when they're tucked away in their storeage. Doesnt matter what system you set up, within minutes it's all over the place again and you can be as sure as sausages that the very minute you go to give away some barely used toy that has laid untouched for a year that it is all of a sudden THE most important, favourite toy they have EVER had. Whatever happened to just having a bat, a ball and a few empty cotton reels, hmmm?

We sat down and made a huge chart, drew lots of pictures of lil miss sleeping in her own bed all night, had a set amount of days set up like a calender that she could check off each morning provided she had stayed in her own bed and not woken me up. At the end of the 10 days she got a huge reward...like a doll or whatever. The actual act of sitting down, making and decorating the reward chart was what helped the idea sink in, then it was on display and talked about, a fuss was made over the checking off a day and sleeping through, it was a big focus. Another chart we made that worked well was for eating vegetables, but it had an instant gratification reward that might work well with your little ones. Ours worked on the premise that if she ate 3 bites of 3 different vege's she would get a reward. She got to put the stickers on the chart for how many bites she's had and if she got all 3 she got a lucky dip present. I'd individually wrapped little things...like plastic farm animals, or stickers or a pretty hair bobble etc and the fact that she got a 'present' was a huge motivator to eating her veg, and then you just phase the chart out quietly. I *heart* reward charts :D

Not familiar with springs 6, but does it have a lake? Maybe the rest of the family are there and the little one has somehow wandered off and got lost. Maybe check the lake (if there is one) when you manage to catch the duckling and a release there might work. Is mummy duck likely to reject a duckling after this time has passed and harm the baby? (I have no clue about ducks!)

EVERYbody in the world needs a visa for russia (except russians, I assume) and it takes a bit of fandangling...even for kiwis who can go everywhere. You need a enter/exit date and an itinerary, and accomadation booked etc before they will issue a visa, and I also vaguely remember the whole thing having to be done by an agent, and being without your passport for sometime. Probably wrong, but here you go, info as I understand it.

Nice to have a little rant but as you've said, these threads are done to death. If the said lady in the Ford Edge comes forward on this forum to explain her actions, and your questions are answered then great. That's the only decent purpose a thread like this could serve. Chances are though she won't and there will be just loads of posters tut-tutting her to kingdom come. oh, give over. Your lady in the edge, even if she sees this will never come forward and admit it was her...but what WILL happen is that complacent so and so's who think no one knows or care what they do, and that if mr jones and abdul down the road do it, why shouldn't I? will realise, that YES, they are noticed, YES their kids matter to someone, and that general safety IS important. 200 000 unique visitors to this site isnt it? Thats a big difference in someones life if just one person a day reads and takes in the message. Or is that kind of common sense just outdated and hopeless? *yawn* edited by Pomegranate on 05/12/2011
