FairyDust, I reckon your Twitter comment is bang on the money, but in the unlikely event this isn't a wind up, some thoughts. Moonflower, aside from the pressing issue of whether your 'Toyger' complements your anklet - I do hope so, though too matchy matchy would displease Ms. Wintour -have you ever thought about the pet breeding industry and its ramifications in an environment like this where there are so many abandoned animals desperate for a home? By purchasing animals from breeders, you are condoning and complicit in this dubious industry. I think it's pretty sad that the only thing you have to say about your Valentine pet is that it's '[i'>expensive'[/i'> and '[i'>rare[/i'>.' Is that the only way to value something living? Animals are not toys and they are not fashion accessories. Think on. Though I do hope that the 'Toyger' doesn't clash with the anklet - that would be [i'>de trop[/i'>.

Just finished [i'>The Girl who Played with Fire [/i'>by Stieg Larsson, really enjoyed it and planning to get the last one in the trilogy. Currently reading [i'>Lover of Horses [/i'>by Tess Gallagher. Don't normally like short stories, but this book is pretty good.

Hi, I highly recommend Dr. Mina at Dubai London Clinic on Jumeirah Beach Road. She's an endocrinologist and she's lovely, your best plan is to get some blood tests done as soon as possible so that you can determine what's going on and how to treat it.

Izzy, thanks for your suggestions, appreciated. If there is anybody out there who thinks they could give this black and white Felix a home, please give me a shout. As I've said, Felix will be neutered, vaccinated and given all the medical treatment required to ensure he's in great health, he just needs a home and some love.

Izzy, I've been in touch with Bin Kitty, they've given me a trap cage and said I would get a discount. I'm really hoping that I can find him a new home, he's a sweet boy who wants someone to look after him, I just can't keep him because my own cat is highly strung and doesn't want the new arrival

Victoria, from what you've said re the watchman and cats, it doesn't sound like you are very happy where you live. From anecdotal evidence, it seems that rents are falling. What about trying to find somewhere else in your budget? I've heard there's quite a lot of availability and it might be a good time to contemplate a move?

fairwater, I would think carefully before purchasing a property in Club Med. Perhaps it might be better to wait to see how the 'Greek Paradox' resolves. Will Syriza fulfil its election promise of ending austerity? If it fails to honour Greek debt obligations, how can Greece remain in the Eurozone? What happens to Greece is going to have a significant impact upon other indebted countries who also have elections looming.... if other countries elect 'Syriza' style left wing parties with a mandate to reject austerity measures, what will be the consequence for the Eurozone?

Like Fairydust says, this could be as a result of some parasite. Do your cats have regular flea/worm treatment? That's something that the vet should test for and medicate.

Beatrice, it sounds like there is a serious problem if your cats are tearing out their fur to such an extent it is causing bleeding. It doesn't sound like you've had a clear diagnosis as to what is wrong with them and obviously that is required before you can have effective treatment. I strongly advise that you seek the advice of another vet, I would recommend the British Veterinary Hospital, or City Vet, I've used both and I think the British Vet is excellent. Once a clear diagnosis is established, the vet will determine whether the cats need to be 'hospitalised' during treatment. The feline behaviour you describe sounds quite extreme and I think you need to urgently identify what's causing this problem.

[i'>since the baby is very small there would be a lot of running around required behind him and having to climb up and down (to fetch things or change diaper etc) maybe a task... but she needs to also babysit my baby if we go out in evenings etc and would that be difficult to manage if she is living outside[/i'> Here's my question. How many hours a day do you expect your maid to work? Is she on constant call or does she finish at a specified time?

What time does your maid start work in the morning? If she starts at 7am and finishes '[i'>usually'[/i'> at 8.30pm she's doing a +13 hour day! If she's working til 10pm baby sitting and clearing dishes, that's a fifteen hour day! She's clearly told you that she's tired and needs some rest. I'm not surprised if she's racking up hours like that on a regular basis. edited by Artemis2 on 03/02/2015

[i'>It's perfectly possible to think both actions are wrong. Yes, the mother should have taken the child to a public toilet, but much worse is the certifiable weirdo who then took a photo of it. Both people are in the wrong here, but I know which one I find much more disturbing.[/i'> The woman who pulled the child's pants down and encouraged him to use a potty in public is 100% responsible for exposing him to whichever random person happened to be walking past at the time. 100% responsible. The fact that somebody took a photo of this is gross as is the woman's total failure to use one of the myriad toilets in the mall. According to the report, it seems this incident was reported to mall security, presumably by somebody who witnessed it. This kind of behaviour is absolutely unacceptable. I do not want to see anybody urinating or defecating in public when I visit a mall. Use one of the myriad toilets. Or if you are incapable of doing so, do the rest of us a favour and stay at home.

KT, But you don't find it disgusting that a woman would produce a potty and allow the child to use it in public when there are myriad toilets in that location? Including one very close to the shop where this took place? Do you think this behaviour is acceptable? I certainly don't. This woman has exposed the child to other people. Urinating in public? Good grief. Use a public toilet.

Izzy, I agree, fluffy cats have never appealed to me. I never knew the local cats had been named [i'>Arabian Mau[/i'> and when I first saw you guys mention them on this board, I had no idea what you were talking about, had to google them! I think Maus are great, they're a natural breed so don't have the health problems that often afflict artificial breeds and I think they're very beautiful, plus loads of them looking for a home. It's just so sad that there aren't more responsible pet owners, people that leave their pets behind when they move shouldn't be allowed anywhere near animals.....

Please don't buy when there are so many cats who need a loving home. As Izzy says, there is an adoption day on Friday at the Dubai Garden Centre on SZR. Why not go there and support the great work by rescue organisations? You might find you fall in love with a beautiful Mau adult cat, but either way, please don't buy because by doing so, you are encouraging pet breeding which contributes to the grim predicament of abandoned cats.

Jane, thanks for your reply. I have been told that I have a 'predisposition' towards this, diagnosed via a blood test, but I don't have any symptoms and I've been told that I don't require any medication, just monitoring. Did you feel ill and then get diagnosed? If so, what were your symptoms? Thanks again for your input.

The "Greek Paradox" is this. Syriza has been elected on a mandate of ending austerity: [i'>The verdict of the Greek people ends, beyond any doubt, the vicious circle of austerity in our country. [/i'> Merkel has made it clear that Greek debt obligations must be honoured and austerity measures are not open for re-negotiation. If Greece does not submit to the Troika's demands re austerity, what impact will that have on its Euro membership? If Greece leaves the currency, what impact will its exit have on other indebted Eurozone countries? If Syriza fails to reach agreement regarding debt repayment how will that impact Greek banks? How can Greece remain in the Eurozone if Syriza fulfils its election promise to end austerity? Dunno. But Margo Channing's line seems apt: [i'>Fasten your seat belts. It's going to be a bumpy night. Breeding animals for profit in an environment where there are myriad abandoned animals desperately struggling to survive strikes me as the definition of unethical behaviour. If you acquire a puppy from one of these breeders, you are condoning and complicit in the perpetuation of this dubious trade. Puppies are not fluffy toys, they are living, breathing creatures and if you take one, you have an obligation of lifelong responsibility for its well being. There is a major problem here with people developing a temporary fad for some 'cute' baby animal which they then toss out to starve once they get bored. Do not become part of this problem, be part of the solution, please consider adoption from one of the overwhelmed rescue organisations.

Tundra, we saw this the other week and while I can't say with certainty that it hasn't been cut since I haven't seen the original, it wasn't obvious and it certainly did not detract from the plot or spoil the narrative. I recommend this film, it was better than I expected and while I'm no fan of Cumberbatch, I think this is his best role. If you get the chance, see [i'>Foxcatcher.[/i'> That was also superb.

[i'>We've had problems with harassment of gardeners, problems with harassment of kids playing ball and being threatened with acid on the grass, intimidation of maids now with stories of killing cats[/i'> Victoria, it sounds like your watchman is behaving in a very intimidating way and that is totally unacceptable. I agree with Nomad, you must take action. I don't know whether he's 'joking' about killing cats or actually doing it, but either way, I wouldn't tolerate it. Is there anybody else in your compound who has cats? If so, go to them immediately and inform them about his threats. Since he's also said that he's killing cats beyond your compound, see if there is anybody living in the vicinity with cats and tell them also. Second, your landlord should have a manager who deals with property issues and you should have the email/ mobile contact details for him. Contact him immediately and make an official complaint. If I were you, I would focus on the threatening behaviour of the watchman, mention the grass acid incident. That is completely out of order. I think you should directly confront the watchman and tell him that what he's doing is illegal and you will report him. What an unpleasant piece of work, don't feel threatened, take action.

Victoria, perhaps you should contact Bin Kitty collective and let them know about this, it's just shocking, I think you should contact a feline rescue organisation, though unfortunately they are all apparently overwhelmed. The people who fail to neuter their pets have a great deal to answer for and as for the people who simply chuck their cats out when they get bored and leave them to starve? Those people are a total disgrace. Shame on them.
