Two major things you need to consider are is they cat going to be kept as a house cat or are you going to let it roam and where will you locate the litter tray? I am a Feline Friends fosterer and always have a house full of kittens looking for homes ... 6 at the moment!

The key is get their differing smells on each other ... Also have the kitten in a separate room for a few days / week while exchanging their smells on each other (stroke male cat with a small towel then rub this over kitten etc). Do this several times and vice versa over a few days so kitten doesn't smell 'foreign'. When you finally introduce do it gradually and supervised so your adult doesn't attack the kitten etc. It's sometimes a difficult process and doesn't always work - my FF 1 year old won't accept any new kittens now whereas my 10 year old cat will. I have 6 kits here right now in separate rooms because I foster ... of lots of choice ;)

Generally feline friends kittens that are adopted out don't get their ear tipped when they are neutered due to *hopefully* these cats not ending up as street cats. Generally when cats are trapped / neutered / released then their ear is tipped. If he or she did/does have a home it would generally have a microchip which can be read at the vets and the owner tracked down. Hope this helps.

Did the vet check her heart? We have an 11year old dalmatian who has had mini shaking turns on and off for two years or so ... Sometimes falling over with them. Vets have ultra sounded his heart where there are multiple issues but largely untreatable apart from supportive medicine like Vetmedin. They think that is the root cause. He is generally happy and in good health apart from that so we just try an keep him stress free .... No long walks. My advice ... Keep pushing at the vets.

Well done you for taking them in and giving them a chance. If only there were more people like you and not the type that can walk past and ignore. I cannot help with a home as am a full time fosterer with a full house, but please know that you did the right thing, you *will* find homes for them and this experience will be extremely rewarding. Good luck!

I completely agree with pinks review. We won a two night stay there earlier in the year and checked out after one night! One added annoyance was that when we got back to our room after some exceedingly average dinner it stank of cigarette smoke as the people in the room next-door had been smoking and it had filtered through to ours!

Thanks for the feedback MrsChef and Lakshmi ... Breaking in my boots already ;) Hopefully it won't be as cold as you experienced MrsChef ... And we are staying in teahouses not camping, so might be slightly warmer. Off to the gym now ... edited by assisi on 18/08/2011

I have a slight innocent heart murmur, but I did get it checked out with a cardiologist and an ECG to be on the safe side. This was years ago though.

Well I am very lucky as my husband's friend is just setting up a Dubai based company organising Nepal and alps treks so we are doing it with him. His company is called Mountain Quests. He will 'tailor make' treks coping with taking children too so if you're interested he has a Facebook page with website to go live in the next week or so. We are so well located for this living here ... I am so excited. Feel like it's going to change my life. It already is ... edited by assisi on 17/08/2011

Some cats even if they have a home exhibit this behaviour ... Especially if 'the family' chuck them out of the house before they go to work in the morning ... They generally want company and some a/c lol However it could be possible that she is lost or abandoned (even with a collar) so getting her tag number checked out is a good idea. She could also have a microchip which can be scanned at a vets to track down her owners. It certainly wouldn't hurt to put some water out for her, although I would discourage feeding for now in case she is genuinely a neighbours pet ... Feeding will only encourage her if this is the scenario. Be careful with your dog ... I am a feline friends fosterer, own two cats, and two 30/40kg dogs. If you just let your dog out with her it is possible your dog and the cat could get injured. If you want to try and see of they will get on only do 'integration' work when your dog is on a lead and be aware that the cat can equally have a go at the dog as well as vice versa.

My husband went on a skiing holiday in France with friends 18 months or so ago without me. I wasn't really fit enough at the time to go too, and when he came back the thing he said that spoilt the holiday was that I wasn't there to enjoy it with him. He had a great time though, and if he wanted to go skiing again, and I didn't want to go, I'd have no problem with him going. I fully intend being fit enough to go on future 'escapades' - am currently in training to complete the everest base camp trek with him in Nepal in 11 weeks time.

Had a lovely meal ... the staff were great and very helpful and attentive ... the hotel is very 'Jumeirah' (water features reminded me of Burj Al Arab, decor more Al Qasr) ... the food was very good we had ... Starters Potato cakes Scallops (not overcooked and served with a smear of sauce) Murgh kathi kebab Tomato / Cumin Soup Mains Goan Prawn Curry (a little salty but we did end up ordering two, so can't be too bad) Butter Chicken Quail (was on the bone in sauce, very good) Chicken (tandoor) Roasted aubergine curry Dal Pilau Rice (excellent - all agreed was excellent) Naans Desserts Pistacio and cardoman icecream Saffron pineapple with vanilla icecream Fruit platter The restaurant was quite busy - counted between 15-20 tables of people, so gave it a bit of atmosphere. The waiter offered to bring us a selection of everything (!) to show what the restaurant could do, but we declined just picking dishes we wanted (you can only eat sooo much). However when we got to desert, even though we only picked one dessert each quantity wise, two desserts each were brought so we all could try more! Although some of the dishes were presented in a modern way (the scallops and potato starters for example), I don't think they were trying to stray to far from traditional dishes in the taste etc. Only 'downside' is the distance you have to travel around the crescent to get there ... but that's only a minor thing. After dinner we went for a cheeky cocktail in Voda Bar where the husbands had fun in the silly pod-like seats. Nice night out :-)

Hi QF2011 - my blood test was sent away to Germany for testing by Welcare, as apparently there is no longer a machine in Dubai that tests it (the one they had was apparently testing everyone low). I've read that food sources (ie Vit D2) aren't the best source for your body to get Vit D, but the direct sunlight is. edited by assisi on 05/08/2011

Hi AndreaA, How nervous are they? Have they ever been stroked by anyone? Been picked up? Why I ask is that it's important to clarify whether they are 'feral' or 'homeable' ... if they've never been handled at 3 months old they are not going to be able to be rehabilitated. There are kittens like this all over Dubai unfortunately. If they have been handled, and stroked etc, then their future is brighter. If you're unsure, get out there with your food etc and give it a go to stroke etc and see how they respond.

We stayed at the Angsana resort on Bintan last year. It's the sister resort to Banyan Tree - it's a little cheaper, but you still get to use Banyan Tree restaurants etc. We got a deal where they included VIP transfers at both Singapore and Bintan ends, and it was quite reasonable. Got caught in a huge storm on the beach and had to shelter in the beach bar with a few others - great experience.
