It's the first time they've holidayed with us, and we've lived here nearly 5 years ... we've never spent longer than a day or two with older niece, and haven't even met younger niece yet, so we want it to be a special time ... and even though sil is a pain in the *** it would be nice if they had an enjoyable experience and want to do it again in the future. Hence ... trying to get prepared.

Thing is cars are usually clean, it's just with this cr8ppy weather we've had the last week or so, they've got a bit dusty. Have mentioned it to security now, who noted it down in his book, and is going to keep an eye out.

'The list' did include other stuff, (car seat for the 6 month old, and buggy for same), but I did draw the line at that (see, I'm not completely a saint ;-))! Yes, have got 2 x stairgates at the ready - 1 for dogs so that even if they're in the maids room/laundry, they are not completely shut away, and 2nd for the stairs for the babes, although not 100% re fit for that because we have wide stairs.

Thanks ladies for all your wonderful ideas / suggestions / help etc ... will talk to her about nappies on email and share what you've said. Food stuff (Ellas pouches, Organix Baby Rice, Aptimal formula) I've seen here on the shelves so will get before they arrive. starsouthern - thank you so much - will email you! SL13 - I'm located at The Villa on Emirates Road, but can travel anywhere ... anything borrowed will be returned promptly by end of May (and don't need to collect until around 13th May)! Yes, will be needing a few stiff drinks probably in May, and a holiday by the time they leave, but *really* looking forward to the quality time with nieces, and husband's brother, who we used to be very close too prior to him getting married.

Thanks for replies ladies ... yes, do find it creepy - when i looked in the rear view mirror yesterday and saw the latest one on the back window, it made me shudder. Will tell security, and talk with neighbours ... thing is I haven't seen many (any!) kids playing around who would do it (most under 4!).

Thanks for replies ladies ... would love the steriliser janesul (email me missuswalker at yahoo dot co dot uk). I would go down the sterilizing tablets line, however, she has already said on email that it will 'be a pain' for her to do this ... (hint, hint!). Will defo get an Ikea High Chair now ... Yes, she is a nightmare ... what's worse is we have two dogs, and (currently, lol) two cats, and I'm currently preparing for the dogs to be shut in the maids room/laundry for the duration of their stay! So getting stuff to prepare for their arrival is easy compared with sorting them out!

The largest size (huge), if buying 3, lowest price I got offered was 120 dirhams each. The next size down (which is what I ended up getting, as I was advised by the owner that I wouldn't need the largest size, and he was right), when buying 3 I got for 50/60 dirhams each. I love the plant souk! Edited to add, I believe they're generally closed between 12 and 3.30 now it's getting hot. edited by assisi on 18/04/2011

With regard to fittings etc, we have found our cheapest/smallest Mazaya villa to have better fittings than say Emaar townhouses in Ranches in 3 areas:- 1. Downstairs lounge/living area has marble floors rather than tiles. 2. All bathrooms are Villeroy and Boch. 3. The kitchen cupboard drawers and doors are the 'non-slam shut' type and close slowly on their own. Small things, but they do make a difference.

We moved to The Villa after 4.5 years on Arabian Ranches in February. We moved to Courtyard 7, Phase, 2 into a 4/5 bedroom A1 Mazaya (smallest size available on The Villa) with a pool for 120k (we landscaped the garden ourselves at a cost of 5-10k). I believe prices are slowly creeping up :(, but that if you plump for Phase 3, you might be able to get them for 120k still. Anymore questions, fire away, equally if you want to visit and see what you think, you're welcome to get in touch (I'm in all week off work). missuswalker at yahoo dot co dot uk Edited to add the agent we used I wouldn't recommend :), but Helena at Landmark is good. edited by assisi on 17/04/2011

We did the Al Badia Picnic Brunch last Friday - 330 Aed inc beverages (195 without), and lots of green space for kids to run around between the picnic spots. Plenty of big umbrellas for shade. No laid on entertainment though.

No, don't think so. I've seen wild foxes here etc, and it's bouncy gait was definitely different to canine - more feline. The taxi driver in the front even said 'cat' ... Since then have looked at the web and loads of people locally sell caracal kittens as pets, so quite likely to be an escaped pet.

Not *that* fancy, but still an excuse to dress up, we enjoyed a nice meal at Karma Kafe last night at Souk Al Bahar ... Asian (kinda Zheng He's ish) and sat outside on the terrace with the fountains etc behind. Vouchers in the Fine Dining Entertainer. Enjoyable.

Not necessarily 'pet' related, but we live at the back of 'The Villa', and were driving back from a night out last night about 9.45pm in a taxi on the 'back road' that runs from the 611/66 interchange, into Phase 2/3. Still can't believe what we saw in the lights of the taxi ... think it was a caracal! Definitely big cat (not desert dog), sandy coloured, bounced down the road in front of us and then away. No spots / stripes, and process of elimination has led us to thinking it's a caracal. Experienced friends I've spoken to say it may be an escaped pet as opposed to wild, but you never know ...

We had a nice meal at Karma Kafe at Souk Al Bahar last night - sat outside on the terrace with view of fountains etc. Vouchers in Fine Dining Entertainer. Got that 'Buddha Bar' feel, but more foody. Food is asian - starters we had were Karma Crabcakes and Steamed Dumpling assortment to start, followed by Angry Chicken and Mongolian Beef with sides of chinese veg and veg rice. Also had an excellent assortment of sushi/sashimi/bento boxes etc. Yum, yum - want to go back.

This girl has been hanging out near JESS School for about a week or so we think, very friendly and young adult, and is now at the Nad Al Sheba vets having a chip check, and possible spay today. Then home here, which isn't good as have parents in law arriving Friday. Alternatively is interested in fostering or adopting her let me know. I will post pictures when she's back here and had a wash and brush up :)

We had to wait about 5 days. It took the tanker just over an hour to fill, sorry can't tell you how much it cost as landlord filled it. You need to get a contract with a pool company who will come 3 x weekly to clean and put chemicals in. My husband called IML this evening to let them know that the work they did hasn't fixed our problem, they said they would come tomorrow Inshallah!!! This is second time the pool has been filled. We have been living here since december and have not as yet been able to use the pool!! Thanks for the answers mayabkk ... IML offer the ongoing maintenance at 350 Aed a month, which I believe is cheaper than most other pool companies. So how long after it's filled can you use it? Does it have to run with chemicals in for a certain amount of days?

Mayabkk ... how long did you have to wait after the re-grouting before you could fill the pool? How long did it take to fill? How long does it take the tanker to fill? How much does it cost for a tanker to fill it? Do IML put the chemicals in? Sorry, lots of questions ...

I think this is what IML do as standard with all pools prior to the first fill (as part of their service). This happened to nextdoor's pool last week. I guess it's all being on the safe side that once it's full it won't leak??

Hi cymraes, I know that IML come and clean the pool and prepare it for it's first fill, but I'm not sure that they actually fill it ... however, the contact who we booked today's clean and prep tbh isn't terribly good with women on the phone, if you know what I mean ... my husband seems to get much better answers :-) Edited to add the IML guys today, brought stiff brushes and a bag of powdered grout, and seem to be brushing out loose grouting at the moment. So maybe if they have to re-grout anywhere then it might be days before the thing can see water ... edited by assisi on 15/02/2011

Hi Donna, I'm moving to The Villa today :) ... I noticed the road between Phase 1 and Phase 2 has had some sand dumped on the communal areas ready for landscaping, so that's a start. Certainly some areas of Phase 2 are more inhabited (ie RH) than others. When you drive around there are plenty of landscape gardeners in doing other people's gardens and we've met 3 or 4 giving us their cards and showing us their handywork just as we've driven/walked around. Certainly it will make a difference to the overall look of the place once more people move in and landscape their front gardens. I'm sure you'll be fine by April. What area have you bought in?

I've fostered Mimo now since the beginning of December and he is a great little cat. He's about 6-7 months old, had all his shots, been microchipped and neutered, and is fine with dogs. Not so great with other cats though. He was initially found back in November in the basement carpark of Rimal in JBR, and was literally trying to hang off people's legs who were walking towards to the lifts as he wanted to go with them. He is highly people orientated, constantly kneads his feet, loves to 'touch' with his paws, and generally likes to cuddle (his name is Spanish for cuddle, I believe). Although a few people were interested him at Adoption Day today, and enjoyed having a cuddle with this cuddly cat, they decided to leave without him :( He really could do with a break, so if you feel you can open your home to this very nice little chap, don't hesitate to contact me on missuswalker at yahoo dot co dot uk. http://picasaweb.google.com/102536995893635721507/JaneSHolidayMisfits#5553739430663022082

Feline Friends will be holding an adoption day. when Sat 22nd where The Vet Hospital Al Quoz timings 1.30pm until 4pm Feline friends as you may be aware is a non profit making organisation, who survives solely off the publics donations. The organisation has been running for 20 years this year and has helped so so many cats and kittens off the streets, without this help many would not have survived the harsh conditions they have lived in. Feline friends could really do with your support, if you are looking for a cat/kitten to become part of your life do not hesitate to contact them 050 4510058. All cats have been health checked, vaccinated, microchipped and if of the right age sterilised.
