Have you gone for second opinion? Always go for second opinion. Doctors here operate for the smallest reason and a lot of the time its unnecessary.

Party Center in Garhoud has a whole section in their shop filled with beach theme stuff including grass skirts etc. I was at Dragon Mart yesterday and did not see any of those type of things at all but then I also was not looking out for it so maybe somewhere there is if you hunt hard.

I just went to MIM to renew our drinking licence and they would not allow me to add my name to my husband's licence any more I was told I had to have my own licence for an extra fee of another Dh160. I need my husband to fill out a letter of no complaint. Has anyone else struck this? I know that the thread below mentions that wives are allowed to get their own licences, but has anyone else been told they HAVE to get their own licences? We renewed ours last month and my husband was told if he adds me on the renewal application (I asked him as he is out of town a lot and I want my own) that the license will not be processed. He did it anyways and when we went to collect the licenses there was only his. :(

Medical care/scans during pregnancy is a lot cheaper in the Philippines than having it done here. Best to just give her a bonus and end her contract.

Wow, I thought that you were announcing! I don't even recall them doing a sale during DSF in previous years. We shall hold our breath then. Bath & Body Works does this awesome "Yellow" sale where they sell everything at 50-75% off. I am addicted to some of their scents and always stock up during the big sale. Plus I want to try out some of their other lines so this seems like a good time to do it. Victoria's Secret does this semin-annual sale and I was looking forward to it. I remember in July-August, they were selling their bras for AED 59. A few days later, they had "further reductions" with bras starting at AED 75! :P Either way, I need to buy some more bras as my size has changed drastically over the past year and seems like this is the perfect time to stock up. The sales ladies at VS told me that sale will be starting soon back in the last week of November and I have been waiting ever since :( I find the VS sales online with shipping much cheaper than the Dubai VS sales.

Chivalry is dead in Dubai. Just stand in front of an elevator. The men will push women with small babies aside to squeeze inside first. Just disgusting. Hope you recover quickly from your fall.

Why is nationality so important to this? This is Dubai. Nationality and the colour of your skin matters. Just read the jobs section of any newspaper here. Its a sad fact but very true.

You cant roast turkey that has no skin. It will dry it out. The purpose of roasting is to make the skin crispy and the fat from the skin to go into the meat that will make it moist and juicy. Turkey breast on its on its own is pretty dry. Nice for a sandwich but that is about it. Otherwise just cook them and pour lots of gravy over it. edited by Asti on 23/12/2013

We have a shop in two big malls in Dubai and I can tell you the rent and demands from mall management here would drive anyone out. Some malls even demand a percentage of your sales profits in addition to the rent you pay! Absolutely ridiculous the greed.

Hi I am a big fan of EW, and have always found it to be useful for advice when any of us ladies have any problems.I am a regular poster to EW but have created this account to keep things confidential. I am currently in a situation where I am lost in what to do. I have a DH who I have been married to for 8 years, and we have a DD who is four years old. We recently moved to Dubai a year back. Prior to moving to Dubai and even upto now me and DH have always had a rock solid relationship, and apart from a few tiffs we have always been on solid ground. However recently Ive encountered and noticed some changes in DH which have me truly worried. My DD is currently enrolled in a nursery school, and as DH works I always do the pick up and drop offs. A few months ago I was unwell and had to have DH drop and pick her up. At this point I have to mention that DD’s nursery teacher who is a lovely lady, is in her mid 20’s and to be honest very attractive. DD adores her. over these past few months though after that week of dropping off, DH was been strangely insistent on dropping DD even though it is out of his way, and keeps bringing up and ask more than normal questions about that particular nursery teacher. I brushed this off as just being inquisitive but last week he asked if we would invite her to our Christmas BBQ which made no sense to me considering I hardly speak to her. To top this all off, which is why I am writing in, yesterday I had gone myself to pick up DD from nursery and the nursery teacher asked if she could speak to me privately and I could tell she was embarrassed and nervous. It turns out DH had invited her out for coffee last week and it made her feel uncomfortable and felt she should let me know. I was at a loss for words, apologised profusely and now I am in a state of shock. Could this be all friendly? Am I reading to much into this? In all our years of marriage we never had any issues with fidelity. I really need your advice. Sounds as if your DH is going through a midlife crisis. I would let him know what the teacher said and ask him why he invited her for a coffee? He needs to know that you know.

I hope your husband is also job hunting since he is the one that got the household in such a mess. He should also try and job hunt in other countries like Qatar or Saudi where there is more recruitment going on currently than here. I wish you all the best. I would of been a hot mess if I were in your shoes. Makes my own problems seem so small.

http://www.cherryculture.com/cosmetics/makeup/nails/nail-polish/291 They ship to Dubai and you will not find make-up/nailpolish cheaper in Dubai than this website. The stuff are so overpriced here. China glaze (among all the brands available) is the same quality if not better than OPI. edited by Asti on 06/12/2013

Your husband should first consult his company's HR department before deciding anything. They might remove all his medical benefits and accommodation allowance if he lives in Dubai. If they are not that strict then you shouldnt have a problem. If he works for government or semi-government company then he can forget about it. They must all live and work in AD.

All the large malls have 'mothers' rooms where you can sit and breastfeed. Also all Babyshops have a breastfeeding room (you have to ask for it) . I breastfed both my children and I agree with the previous posters, the ladies in abayas were the most supportive and encouraging.

Any suggestions?? TIA H&M sells them. Otherwise you will have to go trample Dragonmart. You seem to find everything under the sun there.

During day preschoolers are at nurseries. Some till 12,some till 6pm when parents return from work. The ones that come home early usually stay at home with the maid and have a nap. Its difficult enough to get into schools here so putting them in a nursery prepares them to go to school when they are 3 years old (they start them early in Dubai).

Try Star international school in Umm Sheif. I wonder where all these English college pupils will be going once their school is closed down. Its just terrible. :( Also heard Victory Heights has places available. Then there is that new school that is opening in September called Nord Anglia International school. edited by Asti on 05/12/2013

We did it the other way around. We went from American to British. I can easily say that British schooling system is academically way more harder than American. We had to do extra tutoring to catch up and this was only in year 1. So if your child will be going from a british school to an american it would be a lot easier for them as they would be advance.

Seriously losing the will to live with schools out in Dubai at the moment!! We applied about everywhere with the waiting lists as you do for our 2 kids 8 & 9 years old. We found that regent international and victory heights were taking on children. Victory Heights allowed us to to have the assessment on the computer over here in England at their school. Regent international required the assessment over in Dubai. We received an email from Victory heights offering a place to both kids, however, the kids did the assessment at regents last week and have just received an email saying only one kid has been accepted. We've been able to get the kids in at Victory Heights but can anyone tell us what victory heights school is like as I know it has only just opened. Take Victory Heights. You can always move later years to another school however I have heard nice things about the school and since its still new everyone is still putting their best foot forward. Dont overthink it as you will go crazy.

No offense but you only hear this girl telling you stories. Have you seen this with your own two eyes? These people like playing the 'victim card'. If she is 'suffering' so much why doesnt she move out to another apartment? There are signs up all over satwa for room partitions to rent etc. Nobody put a gun to her head and told her to live with 18 other filipinos and apparently 'overpay' for DEWA On the issue of subletting....the majority of the lower working class live like that. Its the only way people can afford accommodation as the rent here is ridiculous. If the authorities actually actively prevents people from doing this then there wont be sales staff, restaurant staff, drivers etc. left in Dubai.

I bought magnetic letters from amazon.com. It was delivered in 5 working days to Dubai and a fraction of the cost that they ask at those overpriced educational shops in Jumeira and at ELC. Another option is to buy those wooden letters at Dragonmart and buy small magnets to glue on back from Daiso. Both cheap and easy to make. ;)

The Philippine consulate has warned their citizens not to go to Kish island for visa runs due to deaths and prostitution that happens there. Its not illegal though but it is not encouraged at all. Still there are maids who do not listen. Just stick to procedure and send her home. edited by Asti on 04/12/2013
