or anyone who is familiar...... Any chance you can play the beginning of this video and give it a listen (only the beginning is necessary, about 15 seconds) Am wondering what is the song that the gentleman, named Hugh Masekela, is playing and singing? Searched on iTunes and the net, nothing sounded like that one. So curious. Where is the video???

I will go there this afternoon to get some bits and bobs and send you the name of the shop. If you come I to satwa from satwa roundabout, it's on your right just before you reach the petrol station, you will see they have loads of plastic containers and Tupperware outside.

Hi I'm looking for spinning classes during Ramadan. Flywheel is way overpriced and fitness first I can't join for only one month! Warehouse gym in al quoz is a rip off, 600 for membership but you still have to pay 45aed per session! Not sure why you pay a membership fee in the first place! Any ideas? I live in silicon oasis. Don't want so etching that will cost me 1000 or so for the month!

yes I agree its not what you know its who you know - networking is the best way to advertise you are looking for a job. I have also been on thhe look out for 2 months now and its frustrating but ideally get close to some of the best recruiters and keep badgering them and making them think of you first when they get something in that would suit. What do you do Tatters? and how are you? Am PA/EA ...am ok thanks , would be better if I had a job!! Ahh Tatters, I'm in the same boat! Also looking but none of the offers I had pay enough. Guess things will pick up after Ramadan. I feel like I have actually gone a few steps back, I was a PA for a well known person in the UK as well as HNWI's but most PA/EA roles here are not on the same level as in the UK.

Just because employees live in staff accommodation, does not mean they need hand outs. :O oh the Dubai bubble.... Have you ever thought about how little income this people have? The debts they have gotten themselves into to come here and try to provide their families with a better future? Our company accommodates people in staff accommodation - not all of those that leave in these places earn as little as you think. Yes, some do but not all. You get staff accommodation and then you get actual labour camps. Big difference between staff from let's say an office. Labourers have completely different circumstances from the staff in our office. The staff in our office that lives in company accommodation don't bed hand outs, you're right, that's because the earn 3000-6000 per month and they can afford to make a living here! Unfortunately labourers doesn't earn anything close to this.

IzzyOnTheSeat, clearly you haven't been to these labour camps! These people work for next to nothing. And sure, they do appreciate hand outs, trust me you'll be surprised. We have done this 2 years ago at a labour camp in Sharjah. BessTruman, I never mentioned that I expect these people to fall to my feet in gratitude, but I have to say it will help them tremendously. As you can see from my post I've asked about the number of people in these camps, to ensure I have enough to give everyone something. I didn't asked to be judged because I want to help others. And it will not be me on my own wandering around male staff accomodation, of course there will be more people involved, including men. Sorry I'm not turning a blind eye like the majority of people in Dubai. To help others doesn't cost anything. Rather be thankful you're not one of these guys, things could've been very different!

I'm not sure if it is permissible to just go to any labour camp and hand out stuff. If you want to physically give them the clothes, I would go through an organization that is permitted to do so. Would find out first before going anywhere. Hi Marroosh I don't make use of these so called "organizations" to be honest. I recently had to see with my own two eyes how the people go through the stuff and kept all the nice stuff for themselves. Sorry to be rude, I collect these items to help labourers, not the owners of these organizations!

People, stop relying on advice from a networking site. Pick up the phone and call RERA, it will probably take less time to call them than writing the full story on here!! At least you will know where you stand right away.

Well the last 3 posts about wifi and minibar etc is complete and utter BS! Sorry to say! I just came home today after spending 3 days at the Rixos and it was amazing! Can't fault it, but I also can't think of where to start with all the great stuff about it!!! And we bought a groupon as well. Free wifi throughout, fully stocked minibar, beers, sodas, jelly beans, jelly babies, biscuits, chocolates etc. Food was great, buffet was average but the Turkish restaurant and steakhouse was great, in fact, the steak house is probably the best I've been to in a verb ling time. You have to book in advance though. There is no catch, no hidden extras except shisha! All alcohol is included, restaurants are open at different times and the only time you can't eat is between 5-7am, then everything is closed. The room was a reasonable size with balcony and good size bathroom. No issues at all!! Had a great time! Checking back in again next week and then at the end of July again! This place will most definitely see much more of us!!

I understand completely. Even if you do the surgery the weight will not disappear over night. It will still take a good few months. Weight loss is more mental than anything else. I would suggest even before you do the surgery to get it right mentally. It's not a 24hour miracle that will happen. Do you realise that after the surgery you can't eat the same way as before? You have to ditch certain food? Do your homework properly. Where there's a will, there's a way! I wish u all the best, good luck

I agree with you to a certain extend Zannie. Except for the carbs. Rosie, Do it the right way by eating healthy and regular exercise. This juice diet is the biggest load of rubbish I've seen today!! Your body need carbs, fats etc and by drinking juice you will loose weight, I'm sure, but as soon as you eat normal food again you will put all the weight back on again. I have lost 23 kg in 5 months by eating 6 times a day, small meals, but healthy as well as daily exercise. Make a lifestyle change, it's not easy, but 6 months from now you will look back and think wow! It will be so worth it, trust me.

Well..... I work in the medical field in Dubai, (GP) and know a LOT of doctors in Dubai. I would not recommend breast augmentation in Dubai, I've seen too many unhappy patients. It's way over priced and I just feel Dubai is not the best place for it, but that's my personal opinion. However, I've had breast augmentation surgery exactly 7 weeks ago, in South Africa, for a fraction of the price, and I couldn't be happier with the result, it's exactly what I wanted

Well I live in Silicon Oasis, I'm 29 and single. I love the area and will definitely not move anytime soon! Lots of other single people in the area as well, I've met so many people while going to the gym, walks arounds Silicon and even at the shopping centres! Been here for around 2 years and would stay for as long as I'm in Dubai! There are still some apartments around with free A/C so that can actually save her some money. I also have friends in Remraan but it's out of the way, even if you have a car. Motorcity is nice too but more expensive than Silicon and so is Sport City. Hope that helps x

do you have any idea how pool maintanence works? do they need to be cleaned weekly, monthly and if so can i do that myself or would i need a pool person? I guess that's up to you if you wanna stand in the sun while cleaning and scrubbing it! With grass there is water costs as well, my friend lives in JVC and they have a small grass area, around 5x8m and they spend nearly AED1100 just on water every month! And they water it every 3 days. As mentioned, housing fee will be more, as well as DEWA, assuming the villa is bigger than the apartment

Can anybody help? My job has turned into a total nightmare & I want to resign and go back to the UK. My contract says I should give 3 months notice but the PRO has told me as it's an unlimited contract I only have to give 30 days notice. Is this true? I would love to give only 30 days notice. thanks I was in the same boat a month ago. MOL states 30 days but my contract with my company was 3 months. I've called MOL and they told me it's only 30 days. If you contract is limited you are NOT required to give notice, not even the 30 days. That is only if you've been with the company for more than 2 years. Best to call them and check instead of relying on posts here as every situation is different.

I bought a new tyre for my car 2 days ago! They quoted me AED1100 since it's 19 inch and low profile, managed to get it down to 300 ? Took a good hour and 10 mins, but that just shows you how cheeky they are. It was Bridgestone though, not Michelin, but still a very good brand

actually, that is standard policy in most companies. .If you are sick immediateely before or after annual leave, then this counts as annual leave and not sick leave. Maybe read your HR handbook. It usually says in this. So the "horrible, horrible woman" was actually just doing her job., This is actually article 77 of the labour law... I'm aware of that, but I worked the day before my actual leave started, so it shouldn't have been sick leave

I know, but our manager should be the main character in horrible bosses 2 I've argued it before but didn't get anywhere! Luckily I'm leaving in 2 weeks, freedom! The previous time I was sick 2 days before my annual leave, not that I could help it, but I even had to change my flight as I couldn't fly as per the doctors request, but still, this horrible horrible woman deducted it from my annual leave.

Are you wanting to visit Bali in Ramadan, don't forget it is a very Muslim country! edited by pollydxb1 on 01/06/2014 Bali is a Hindu island - most services/restaurants etc will not really be affected by Ramadan, although there are many Muslims there who will be fasting. OP if you are looking to travel around you could try companies like Intrepid Travel or G adventures, they are small group tours (about 10-12). Sound like a plan, going to google them now x

I am a member of volunteer in UAE but up to know I haven't seen any posts of what they will be doing during the Holy Month. I also don't have a set mosque that attend regularly so not sure how to go about this - not looking for anything specific, just want to be involved somehow :-) Hi I'm doing the same this year in my spare time, contact Lola Lopez on Facebook, she is involved in many projects x

I know another leading cleaning company who do similar. They sign a contract for AED1500 but only receive AED1300, not as bad as your girl but it's still wrong. Unfortunately if your girl gets demanding and appears to rock the boat things can be made very difficult for her. Holding passports is illegal, but it is not one bit unusual. It's such a shame that these people get away with this! Robbing workers so they can make more money! 1300 is still better than 900. Makes me appreciate things in life a bit more, knowing how easy it is to spend 900.....

Thanks for ur reply, yes 900 plus housing! She is trying to get a copy of her contract but the owner is not willing to give it, I told her to insist on a copy and to demand her passport back! As far as I know the owner can't keep her passport, or am I wrong??
