i do not think they would let her buy a ticket out of visa validity date. but why do not you arrange her a longer visa? Yes you can. My mother last April booked a flight for 6 weeks to come to Dubai and was only given a 30day visa and then got her visa extended at immigration cause bless her I thought she was a bit too old to do the visa run with all the pit stops that she has to make.

...For the non-working mums, who spend their time gossiping and ordering their ‘nanny’ to do this and that, showing off to friends and relatives that you are the boss. Oh! Please do yourselves and your kids a favour - look after your kids to teach them how to behave... Don’t impose all your responsibility as a parent on your ‘nanny’. For reference, look at the dictionary for the definition of a nanny or a maid. Mother Teresa Dubai While I was in Dubai I loved the freedom that having a maid gave me. I loved being able to spend ALL of my time with my children, very rarely distracted by housework. Every single day that I had a maid, I was grateful. Now that I'm back in Australia and doing everything on my own, I miss my kids. Yes, we're all in the same house all day every day but I'm lucky to find 30 mins every day to spend focused on them and almost never get decent one-on-one time with each one of them. I have always hated that people in Dubai use the terms "maid" and "nanny" interchangeably. At the very least, it's disrespectful to nannies. But for some sanctimonious twit to suggest all "non-working mums" who have domestic help are doing less for their kids...insulting and narrow minded. I know for sure from personal experience that my parenting was both more enjoyable and more effective with a helper around the house. (and no, my kids are not dysfunctional, spoilt brats and yes, my 5, 3 and 1 yr old children all know how to clean up their own messes...or at least how to help to get it done!) My point being, those who are actually 'letting the maid/nanny raise the kids' won't read or pay attention to your post Salome. Those who have or had a maid and still parent their own children are likely to find the suggested generalisation both offensive and inaccurate. I realise the post is not in your words, but I fail to see the point of posting it here in a forum set up to help support other mums. I couldn't have put it better myself.

I feel for you. Everyone goes through that. I've been here nearly four years now. I didn't really make friends when I first came out here but as time has got on it does get better. I've made some really good friends with some of the ladies on here. Have you thought of taking up a hobby. I started tennis again here which kills time in the mornings. I've also made some good friends through play dates with my DD.

If you have a definite return date I would book that. As they normally charge you to change a ticket. Also, assuming your mum is from one of the country's which has visa on arrival, the easiest thing to do a few days before your mum's visa is up is to go to DNATA travel shop on SZR they have an immigration section there and they will extend the visa for another 30 days but the price is 750AED. The cheapest option obviously is to do the visa run but with a new born you might not really fancy doing that.

To do your line of work you can get the appropriate Trade Licence from either (a) Dubai Media City or (b) Fujeriah Creative Freezone (this is a completely separate freezone from Fujeriah Freezone). Option B will be the cheapest but it is restrictive like you are only supposed to do the work in Fujeriah. Option A, through Dubai Media City is more expensive I think its 25,000. This will include your Trade Licence, Desk and Visa. If you don't need a visa then it might be cheaper. This will allow you to work anywhere in the UAE. I only know all this as DH was thinking of getting a freelance visa and muggings me had to do the calling around.

Not that long ago it was 5AED per day that the registration was overdue. Are you saying also that the car is no longer insured as well? Your best bet is to ring the RTA they will let you know exactly what you will have to do. I just recently had to sort out a car which was under a company registration but the trade licence had expired some 5 months. Everything is possible in Dubai just takes time and patience. If your selling the car to a dealer they will do all the paperwork for you. I took the company car to Sun City which is right by the RTA office in Al Barsha. The guys are nice especially the owner Asif. He actually sorted out everything for me. Helps when they speak Arabic as well.

What about Beach ceremony followed by dinner on one of the boat cruises? Is it easy to sort out a beach ceremony here, babyrat? And if you do that, don't you have to use the facilities of the place whose beach you used, IYSWIM? (Do you remember that vid of the French or Swiss couple getting married at a ceremony on a beach in the Maldives officiated by locals who roundly abused them without their being aware of it?) I have no idea. Thought OP wanted some options that wasn't too expensive. She wanted to get married on a beach but not have the expensive hotel reception after so a thought would be that they had the wedding and then piled into taxis to one of those boat cruises on the creek with dinner and dancing.

Dubai Business Advisors will help you with information. 04 341 9701 with regard to costs etc. The first meeting is free. Just go in there armed with questions. You can go elsewhere afterwards. Its best to set up in a Freezone as well.

tips and toes have them, but once you get them you have to keep getting them and I think they do damage to your natural lashes, even if they say they don't, how can they not? They do damage your lashes but only if you keep having them done. Have to say I love them and its a price to pay. I use Tips and Toes on the Palm Jumeriah. They lady did recommend me to leave them off for a month after I had them continuously for 6 maybe 7 months. I gave my eyes a breather for about a month and just before Christmas I had another set put on.

Maybe fake isn't the right word but "real life" would be more appropriate. I don't think I've changed as a person as the saying goes "you can take the girl out of Essex but not Essex out of the girl" but what is not real is that I do have a full time nanny for my DD. In the UK that would have never happened as I wouldn't be able to afford it. Maybe I'll take the fake bit back cause I do have false lashes which I love. Anyway I'm enjoying Dubai whilst it lasts.

My sister recently had a villa fall through and this was through a very well known UK Real Estate Company. The Landlord didn't even the own the property as yet cause he hadn't even made final payment on the property and she was only told this at the 11th hour when asking why the Landlord had not signed the Tenancy Contract.

After the morning school run I go to the gym, get my nails done, food shopping etc. Grab some lunch. Pick younger kids up by 1pm - they have their afternoon naps I chill out for a couple of hrs...facebook, watching t.v, EW etc. 3pm school run pick up then straight into dropping kids to any activities they might have. I don't get back home until 5pm. Day done! you are having a laugh What is there to laugh about - I think that seems a pretty much full on day - do you know the poster and her circumstances no - why are people so jealous here - life is about choices - live it - get a life and stop worrying about what other people choose to do with their life!

There was a thread about this not may be a couple of weeks back. You should tell your maid if she thinks she can find a better job then go. Have you ever noticed that the advertisment which the maids put on the classified section always says "European, American etc" thats cause we are all soft touches. I've been right mugged off by a maid in the past and now quite harden to their sob stories etc etc etc.

JAPS is a very very good school and if you got a place I'd take it like a shot. There are other good schools in Dubai as well. What may be right for you is not necessarily right for another child. There have been quite a few threads with regard to this school in the past so if you have time you should have a look.

I'm still fascinated as to why. Maybe people just can't be bothered to look after their own kids or do their own cleaning? Or maybe they just want the luxury and can afford to have more than 1 maid. Just because you have home help it does not mean that you can't be bothered to look after your own kids. Granted maybe if I was back in the UK, I couldn't afford to but I'm not - not yet anyway so I'll make the most of it whilst I can.

Tinker Bell, just don't give up hope. I was told I would never conceive naturally by the experts, I went did IVF twice and had one miscarriage. All in a very short space of time. Not really giving my body time to recover. Decided that the thought of babies were taking over my life and I just wanted to get our lives back on track. Moved out to Dubai and got a new job and what happens six months into my new fab paying job I fall pregnant naturally. Positive thinking. Sending you lots of baby dust your way. x

Marriage is not the end of life! I think its a partnership. I do moan about my husband but if I remember correctly I moaned about my previous boyfriends too. You can still go out and have fun even though your married. DH and I have our separate nights out not often but we still do it every now and again. At times I think he is a right of s**t but he is mine and I wouldn't want to change it for the world.

I'm over in Motorcity and we have marbles during the day and night, we also have what sounds like someone going up and down the corridor with something on wheels (just heard it again now!) but at odd times 2am, 3 or 4 am and finally we have pipe banging! But who on earth bangs pipes at all hours of the day and night? This building is just odd. Where in Motorcity are you? I moving there at the end of this month.
