1st AIS is in Sharjah not Dubai. You don't want your children to go there as mostly Arabs and very unruly kids. Not a nice area to live! Go on FB and join Aussie and Kiwi Mums. It can be difficult to get your child into a school. You need to live close to your school as driving is a nightmare, especially in Sharjah. Transport on the school buses is also expensive and not covered by companies who pay school fees. Where is your husband going to work? Most Aussies live Motor City/ Sports city end if looking on maps

Most Kiwis live in Australia anyway ?? Iam a Brissy girl, but you have to love the humidity. Do research on weather as this is a major factor on where to live in Australia. Lots of Brits live in Adelaide.

DS graduated last year. I am connected thru sport activities with the school . So, yes involved with the staff and do hear about all happening. I must say the children are a true blend on Nationalities and very well behaved and well mannered I get to speak to a lot of parents and no one I know is leaving

If living in Festival City area, this is a fantastic school. Not sure if you will get in? They are expanding to have a further 800 students. ( EY early years ( FS ) to IB 2 ) The intake will not be till Sept 17. There are after school activities Sun- Wed. The teachers are wonderful and the turn over of teachers isnt big. Hence the teachers enjoy the school. If you can get in, go for it

I have done research on is for my son. Open university in Aust. It is thru Curtin Uni in W A. As long as you can do prac at an English speaking school that approve of.

I have commented numerous times that you should not push your child especially if a boy into starting school early. DS number 1 of 3 was also a child who started school as the youngest in his class. When he finally graduated he said "Mum Iam way too young to finish school" Why didn't you keep me back a year ? There are many studies on this subject. The child definitely does better with all aspects of school if they are the older ones in the grade.

You need to embrace the lifestyle here. If your husband is a 777 pilot there is a lot of flying as they will be both long haul and short haul..not a lot of days off. 380 is a little better. Things are not as they used to be, hence a lot of disgruntled people. Management is the big issue ATM. Dubai is getting more expensive and schooling is a huge concern. people are heading back home even to pay tax !

DS is going to do a course in France for 3 weeks to be a snowboarding instructor. It is better that he gets his own board. Buying it here at Ski Dubai is about US$800 up then there is bindings ( $200) as well. He has his own boots. So! Should he wait till France or buy thru Amazons and get shipped here?

Hot, Hot, Hot! Of course school holidays all of January. So very busy everywhere. February a quiet month as all children back to school and parents have no money left after Summer holidays and paying for start of school year. Sydney has zoo, beaches and hands on science place. ( sorry can't remember name). Gold Coast has all the theme parks. Tourist capital of Australia. So work out if you are there to entertain the children or visit and see the country. ( children bored)

Don't you see men sitting in police cars where people push their way in. They are looking in their rear view mirror and writing down number plates. So, sometimes a 3 or 8 or similar , hence the mistakes. You will NEVER win here unless you have a very high up local as a very good friend.

I think more and more Expats are leaving and jobs are being taken over by Indians, Africans and Middle East people. Yes they are cheaper to employ because they will take a lower wage, whereas Expats have spent a fortune on getting their degrees from a recognised university. Dubai is getting more and more expensive. So time to leave

It is very sad that lives are lost in war. Isn't that what Martyrs day is for, to remember people who gave their lives for their country? I know as Australia and New Zealand has ANZAC day for this reason. The UK and USA have Remembrance day. Iam sure other countries have days put aside for this reason.

A friend who has a Bachelor of Marketing and a CELTA cert wants to teach here but has been told needs a teaching degree. She is currently teaching at a Kindergarten in Seoul, which accepts the CELTA. She was a nanny for Etihad as well so friends in the area, but alas no work

I have a BIL who built houses for the Indigenous people of Central Qld. Well as quick as he was building them, they were destroying them. The government just kept throwing money at him to either build more or keep repairing the ones he had built. It is a no win situation. Sell! You have made money thru the boom, now get out !!

We used to live there, but DH company made us all move to a compound !!! YUCK ! Al Badia is fantastic. Schools, Health Club, Golf Club , Spinneys ( supermarket ) Chemist, Hairdresser and of course and short drive or walk ( Winter ) to Festival City. Driving is my pet hate here but it's so easy to get into and out of , unlike some communities that you can take 30 min each morning. Mirdiff City Centre ( a better shopping centre ) is a quick 5 min drive away. No noise from the airport as aircraft come over Mirdiff. The rents have gone up considerably since we left but worth it as the trees and greenery is so nice to be around unlike some other areas here. You will enjoy the coolness brought by them. Then again depends where your children ( if any ) go to school or where your husband works.

My son, too is looking for work in the Banking and Finance sector but more in a Grad program. He finishes his degree at the end of the year and 100's to apply to but can't get past the 2nd stage. He is doing Economics and marketing, but prefers the finance direction. Not sure if Dubai is the right place to do an internship but then if you all live here she will have room and board.;)

Ok I do this a lot. You need a ship and shop account 1st. This will give you a PO Box in USA, UK, China Order your goods on Amazon and get them sent to your US address with Ship and Shop. They are then sent to your residence here in Dubai with Aramex. Try and keep your purchases small as you pay for for shipment from US to here. I have only paid duty once
