DS school is finishing on 18th June. Has been on the school calendar from last year. Everyone knows when Ramadan is so why didn't they adjust last year. It's not a surprise!

Don't forget DEWA..Dubai Electricity Water Authority..can cost a fortune per month. Schools are your main issue. First just to get in to one that is close to you that is good. DS is in his final year here. As he is turning 19 this month DH company won't pay the final term fees. Hence we have to pay 23k for a term that he doesn't attend school as has study break for his final exams! So yes schools jump up in price once they hit the final years.

Well 1st of all pmd I would learn to spell SYDNEY correctly before you arrive ! LOL 2nd. Melbourne is lovely, Yes it's our only city like Europe. 3rd. pmd said she liked nature and SUP , well can't do that in Melbourne. Drive from Sydney to Melbourne along the coast and see plenty of gum trees and do lots of SUP along the way. Come back via Ballarat and Canberra Iam a Gold Coast girl but only go there if you want all the theme parks and tourist destination of Aust.

DS is in final few months of school at DIS. He has been there since grade 8. I wouldn't say he is the most academic but the teachers have really put in a big effort. DIS has IB after they do the IGCE ( grade 11 ). Uptown and I think UAS has 12 yrs of schooling whereas DIS has 13. Depends on your nationality which school you choose sometimes. UAS has a very large amount of Lebanese as they do the American curriculum more. DIS classes aren't big in the IB years so lots of help. All good schools , but why travel to Mirdif in the traffic if there are great schools nearby?

She can apply to be an assistant with camp companies. Just google all the summer camps here and then go for it. Ask at her own school who does their camps and maybe foot in the door that way. E Sports, Active are 2 of the biggest

Ever thought about sending him to camp in Europe? I sent our son to CampSuisse near Geneva. It's for 2 weeks and there are 3 different slots to choose. He ended up going back again another year then he applied to be a camp mentor. He got that and last Summer went for 7 weeks. It is so organized as the campers come from all over the World. Just an alternate for you and him.

Happy Ending ! Took him to local Vet this morning and even though he was chipped wasn't registered. So they said would have yo wait till Sunday The owners contacted the vet by chance early afternoon, hence reunited! The little one had walked a fair distance , and was heading in the wrong direction for home! So glad they have been reunited as often think would hate for something like that to happen to mine.

It has been a proven fact that children who are the eldest in a class whether it be class or sport excel much faster and do a lot better than younger ones. DS was the youngest in class as cut off was end of year. We are Australian. Mid way thru his school years they changed it to end of year to 31st Oct. Hence he became one the oldest. The change in his grades, personality etc was incredible. He came out of his shell, excelled in numerous things and was so much better for it. So YES keep them back a year. Let them be the eldest in the class. Both yourself and child will appreciate it in the long term edited by basil on 21/11/2014

What a difficult question to answer. Do you realize how big Aust is ? Its around 12 hr driving between each capital city. In Queensland its a min 1 hr trip between small country towns. Everyone will have a different view. Weather is a main factor in deciding as well as whether you want city or country living. Get a job 1st, then see where that leads you.

If you are happy for her to do her IGCSE at her present school then change. Deira International school does IB instead of A levels in the final 2 years. Teachers are amazing

As DS works for Etihad, I usually drive to AD and park at Etihad Plaza ( free parking ) opposite their HQ. I then get a taxi to the airport. The black taxi are very reasonable tbh ! 250dhs from airport to DXB airport.

DS did 8 months of grade 8 in Qld, 4 months grade 8 in Singapore then another 6 months grade 8 when arriving here! He finally finishes school next May aged 19 1/2 . It hasn't hurt him at all. He is at Deira International school which is UK till grade 11 then IB. The school help with university applications all around the World. There is no need to worry as students from here end up where they want and are best suited. DS doesn't even want to return to OZ. so jump that hurdle when you get to it and now just find a school close to where you live.

This is from an older child point of view. We came and DS did grade 8 for 18months as had already done it back home. He is a Feb birthday and in Qld is one of the older children as went on year of birth. Hence is is finally finishing school here next June at age 19 1/2 yrs. Really there is nothing wrong with this as he is still unsure on what he wants to do! He did need a transfer cert from his OZ school. Don't push them into a year above, always better to be the older child.

Physio is a very highly regarded profession around the World. In Qld you need an OP 1 which is the highest. Equal to doing medicine and dentistry. So YES I can see why they want 3 A* to get in.

Deira International School is great. DS is in his last year there and so I have been there for a long time. Spoke to a Mum only this morning who said how friendly everyone was and the teachers are sending out emails explaining many things to the parents. She said her daughter is very happy attending each day in FS1. Parking is no problem when dropping off or collecting . Getting in and out of Al Badia is easy, much better than Garhoud area. I know as live there ! Horrible traffic around the RTA.

Private lessons are at least 3 times more expensive than group. Remember the teacher has drive there in the traffic and takes a lot of their time. Children progress better when they see others do it

Once again comes down to what interest you have when visiting a foreign country. Public transport is terrible in Aust compared with Europe and UK. Go to a website like booking.com to get a hotel with kitchen. Gold Coast is another 1 hr flight north of Sydney. Unless you want to do theme parks then just enjoy the beaches in Sydney. When LO is asleep go to trip advisor and research what you want to see edited by basil on 11/08/2014

DS school is IGCSE till grade 11 then changes to IB. All students cope very well as a lot are from various countries therefore is probably better for them. He does IBCC which suits him and has done work experience at Intercontinental Hotel, Hilton Hotel and Ski Dubai. Hence thinks it's great.
