This might sound lame, but have you tried supplementation? I *love* this product. http://www.speciesnutrition.com/storemenu/arthrolyze.html It is so complete. I only have issues with knees/feet/shoulders in sporadically, but when I do every couple of years I use this. (due to being overweight, strains, heavy training, etc) There's a lot of chondroitin, MSM, and glucosamine supplements out there. Not all have added Boron which I think makes a difference. If you don't want to listen to Dave's video explanation of the product, one major take-away he gives is this: the reason this kind of supplementation doesn't work for some people is they do not take it long enough. 3 weeks + for results. x Oh! forgot to add my 63 year old Mom who has fibromyalgia, osteoporosis and some arthritis uses this and notes great improvement. This is not only for athletes even though it is a sports nutrition supplement! edited by Beebers on 10/01/2013

I got mine from Sharaf, their prices weren't largely different to c4/coop, but their after sales service made it worth while when my machine played up a few months later and they sent someone to fix it (and would have given a replacement til mine was fixed if it needed to be sent for fixing). That's reassuring! They were excellent with delivering our tv and mounting it. Need them to dismantle and reinstall in the new pad, so I may get to kill 2 birds with one stone. yay :) thanks!

OMG crunches this soon after a C-section? Somebody come and scream some sense into her. It sounded like she was going to her check up soon, and I'm sure she'll consult her doctor. I agree 3-4 weeks post is dangerous, but by 6-8 weeks brisk walking is definitely doable, and core work like plank likely are as well. As for the other ab exercises, I assumed she meant once she was "ready."

Oops, the soy milk has organic cane sugar. I normally buy the Silk brand and since it's not available all the time I use another brand. I add dried fruits for the sweetness. I'll try the whey protein. I've always considered whey protein as post workout shake. Never knew I can have it as a snack or with the main meals. Sugar is sneaky, isn't it :) I will admit it is not super-rich, but I make my own oat milk and I find it makes porridge and protein shakes even yummier with little caloric impact. It's so easy! To about 750mL room temp water, I add 4 TBSP of oats and 1/2 tsp of pink salt or sea salt. Let it sit in the fridge overnight, hit it with the hand blender for a few pulses, and strain. (you can add more salt at that point if need be). Voila. Protein powder mixes really easily into oats and oat bran. It's a great "quickie" brekky, and adding it to oats/oat bran really cancels out the need for milk x

Beebers - thanks for the in for re: syntha-6!!! I've been taking it immediately after every workout and WOW what a difference it has made already! It's like my muscles are literally soaking it up :) [b'>And not to mention the great taste, definitely cures my craving for something yummy tasting after a workout[/b'>! You deserve a medal for taking the time out to replying to everyone's questions and for being so patient and thorough with your explanations! God bless you xxx Exactly! I chalk my sweet tooth being craved to these shakes! So awesome tasting! God bless you, too, keep up the hard work :) xx

Hi Beebers, You are simply amazing! Thanks a ton for all the supportive answers.I have about 15 kg to lose and I was unable to stick to any diet or exercise regimen for long. The meal plan you follow looks like something I can stick with as it's simple. My question is,are there any alternatives for egg whites scramble ? Currently my choice of breakfast is oat bran(1/3 cup) cooked in 1 cup of organic soy milk with nuts and died fruits. I eat this everyday. What do I do with all the egg yolks ? (Pardon my ignorance) Hi Farwin :) This is just one example, I usually do a plan for a few weeks until I get sick of it, but I am all about easy prep, ability to cook some items in bulk, and portability. I toss my egg yolks :/ I used to buy liquid egg whites in the carton back in the US but they are sooooo expensive here! Your breakfast doesn't sound bad. I don't digest fruits well with fats so I don't mix them. If your breakfast doesn't upset your stomach or hinder your fat loss efforts just stick with it. If it were me, though, I would probably ditch the dried fruit, keep the nuts in my oat bran, and add at least a half scoop of whey protein--vanilla would work lovely in that. Protein should be a part of any meal. Also make sure your soy milk doesn't have anything hydrogenated or sugars x

Definitely :) It's nice not to be tied to a gym, because you can't always get there. Spinning--eeeek! I swear, such awesome results, like, loose jeans the next day!! tough for me. It's the angle of the pedals or something; it's horrific for my left knee, which I sliced open pretty good 5 years ago. It put a lot of stress on my PCL because I had to overcompensate to walk for a while. It's been long enough, though, and I need to buck up and just try it again. See, you are motivating ME!!!! I have thrown up after many a crossfit session or heavy leg workout. I rarely eat much on those days beforehand, still lol

Love fitness chatting, it's my hobby :) Personally, I do a mixture of only 4 ab exercises. That's what I meant by core work! I know what you mean about yoga. There are no hope for my chakras. I don't even think I have all of them. *Plank--not the kind where you look like a canoe, but stretched out on the ground, almost like a pushup position, but balancing on my elbows. OR pushup position, and alternate lifting left leg/right arm, back to pushup position, then right leg left arm outstretched. *Crunches (lying on back with knees up) and make sure I contract hard at the top of the rep, and also, exhale at the top of the rep. This makes a world of difference. *swiss ball-similar position to crunch, lower back is on the ball, feet on the ground. I alternate left arm to ceiling with left hand on hip. When left arm goes up, right side contracts. And vice versa. *Rope crunches. This is done on cables at the gym. I place the rope high as if I will do tricep extensions, but I lower myself to my knees, arms stretched and holding to the rope, and crunch down. You might want to youtube this to get form, and this might not be for you at the mo! Boxing, now that would be good! That is some pain!!! I thought I was fit until I did that. A couple years later and still working up the nerve to try again :)

Hey DB :) Congrats again, I can't believe it's been 6 weeks already! Hmmm wobbly stomach. Okay, is your skin really stretched? I don't know your age, but after 28 yrs old (and sometimes earlier than that) we have a lot less elastin in the skin, and a lot less hyaluronic acid. This means skin doesn't bounce back into original shape as easy as before, and running may be something you want to put off for another couple of weeks? In other words, don't do something that has you bouncing too much? Especially if your chest is extra heavy. Try doing plank and core work to strengthen your abs--this is probably okay even though you had a c-section. Please check. And for cardio, perhaps try high incline, brisk walking. You can get your heart rate quite high doing that. Just to give your skin time to readjust before you start running again. Cardio + proper diet will take care of a lot of that wobble in the meantime. Thoughts? x

Hi SanRan, I try to help when I have the time :) Protein shakes serve many purposes *good choice of snack for "dieters" *meal replacement *replenishment after workout *they're anabolic (help you be in fat burning/muscle building mode) *protect muscle loss from intense cardio If you're trying to lose weight, I would suggest a lower glycemic fruit in the beginning of your journey. Don't get me wrong, we don't want you getting faint or sick. But an apple or a grapefruit is a better choice for before cardio. Fruit is good because it contains all the enzymes to digest itself, and energy is available quickly for your body to use. But bananas are rather high in sugar, and I wouldn't recommend spiking your insulin if you are doing medium intensity cardio. If you were a triathlete or marathon runner, a banana would be more suitable before training. Does that make sense? You could even have a protein shake before your cardio, and follow up with your bran and something like egg whites for the protein source at breakfast. Love spirulina; I actually add that to my scrambled egg whites sometimes. Looks weird lol x

Beebers, wanted to update you...been following paleo, similar to what you noted below and I used some of the great recipes on this site (http://www.paleoplan.com/recipes/) and managed to shift 1.5kg since Sunday. It's slow I know but ANY loss is great for me so I am soldiering on. I did not manage to get the shake as I did not have time to venture all the way to Dubai Mall on Saturday but its on the plan for this weekend. So far so good ;) SS that's awesome!! :D yay! You can get that brand nearly anywhere. I buy mine in JBR these days. 1.5kg is great. There are always diminishing returns with fat loss, so I would expect if you have been following plan you should have lost that. The next week may be the same and the next week less. On the weeks where you follow plan and don't lose, be patient. You may simply be holding water due to hormones, not getting enough sleep, whatever. Keep it up and love to hear it! Good for you!!!!!

I think when you state a preferred nationality in a job advertisement your stating a wish for a particular mentality or way of thinking, not a skin colour. We did this when we were hiring the staff for our son. We knew what kind of cultural background/exposure/way of thinking we wanted the person to have so we only interviewed our preferred nationality in the key roles. If a company only wants certain nationalities to apply for a job I would assume its for the same kind of reasons. I agree. In my case, I may go back to work for my old company, and if I do, I will have to interview and hire support staff. Everyone in the office speaks English to varied degrees, and when it comes to communicating technical issues, I will be looking for an assistant that speaks the same mother tongue as the majority of the techs. It will just make life easier and fill in gaps where English may fail. I won't be blatant in an advertisement, but may suggest speaking X language is preferred.

That's not the case for the USA. You can still drive on your US license while back in the country. My TX license is still very much valid back in the states. And additionally, our insurance company offers a great service that for only $5 US per year, you can continue on as a customer and when you go back to the states and need to rent a car, you are covered under that policy. And when we return to the states for good and need to get everything established again, we will be considered continuing customers with all of those years of accident free driving with them and not looked at as a new client. Really. SunDevil, which Texas insurance company do you use if I may ask? This could prove useful for us!

Beebers I'm completely clueless about recovery shakes, but my brothers keep telling me I should be taking them after I workout. My apologies for sounding ignorant, but why should you take them? Also, are they high calorie drinks? Lol I would hate to undo the good of the workout with a high calorie recovery shake! You want to replenish the glycogen after weight training sessions. Weight training sessions break down muscle, and the idea is to offer quick recovery so it can repair and build. There are many differing opinions about which is best after a workout. Protein shake only? Protein shake + carbs? Really the only thing everyone agrees on is fats do the least good after a workout. My hard core friends will do a protein shake (100% protein isolate, or isolate/concentrate mix) with a little simple sugar like jelly on a rice cake, or even fat free candy like Skittles! (not fruit or fructose though). Sugars propel the protein a little faster; that's the reason. I say keep it simple, keep it consistent. Find a protein shake you like, and have one as a snack between meals, and one post workout. HTH x to add: If your brother is saying you need that during your running to keep your muscle from breaking down from high intensity cardio, go for BCAA powder (branched chain amino acids). They are quite effective. When you do high intensity cardio, your body has the tendency to release cortisol, and burn muscle. Even refuse to oxidize fat! If I am pushing my anerobic threshold (heart rate between 176-189) I always drink aminos during. HTH edited by Beebers on 09/01/2013

Sorry to pick your brain Beebers - but do you have any personal review on Syntha 6? I've done loads of internet research before taking it, and all reveiws are "positive" so went with those. Plumie, funny you should ask, I have recommended Syntha-6 on a few other threads :) It is my favorite tasting product out there, and I have been using this on and off for almost a decade. It's not 100% whey protein, but it's still a good quality protein product, and knowing the manufacturer, I feel comfortable using it. The Calcium Caseinate and Casein can aggravate some stomachs, but the digestive enzymes in there (bromelain, papain) help this. Another reason I like it is that is has some carbs and fats so I am not hungry a half hour after I drink one like I am with 100% whey products. The only people I wouldn't recommend this for are those trying to go under 12% body fat...a cleaner product will be necessary to get extremely lean x

The book I am reading right now is so boring, I end up falling asleep in bed in a face plant position. So I won't share that one. However, I traded my friend "The Passage" for this yawner, and he says it's among the best he has ever read. That site looks amazing B! So you shipped directly to the UAE? I was thinking of making 50/50 hemp and pea, what would you recommend? Have only ever had whey protein powder. Hi BC, Isn't that site great?? Yep--they shipped here and it was not too bad because their prices are so low. Hmmm, pea + hemp? I'm not sure you'd like that. I'll try and explain. The hemp has a nutty-ish taste and like I said, gritty. Carry a toothbrush with you if this is in your lunch box! Since it is already nutty, I ordered the Choc Peanut butter flavor. Best to go with the underlying flavors, if that makes sense? Pea is more vegetable-tasting and quite powdery (I know, duh!). So those two together might be kind of yuck. My favorite flavors in pea were Peanut butter, Choc, Vanilla, Strawberry. A friend of mine ordered exotic flavors and she said they didn't go well with pea. I also got the unflavored/unsweetened pea, and I have worked this into soups and curries--highly recommend that! If you use pea in hot dishes like that, you have to temper it first--mix in in room temp water first, do not add to hot liquid or it curdles and you cannot blend it further. Unless you are totally trying to avoid whey, another option is to go 50/50 with pea and whey. I love that combo for building muscle; it truly gives a full spectrum amino acid profile. HTH x

Summer prices are always way lower. I use PK Properties quite often and [b'>Arabian Escapes[/b'> too, maybe they can help out neither will be cheap but they will be better value than some of the others I hope. I am 1,80m and not the slimmest i am getting my trousers from Zara as the prices are good and buy as well in Massimo Dutti. A freind of mine buys in Saccor, she is tall and slim. The other day i tried a trouser in H&M and the fit was perfect. Gap has also trousers but the cuts and choice is very limited here in Dxb. [b'>Try also Banana Republic. [/b'> Sorry can not advise on Next, Debenhams or M&S or more expensive stores as the once I mentioned are only in my budget I second this. I am 175 cm and that's where i get my work trousers. Excellent quality, too. If I didn't wear 3" heels, I would have to get them tailored. Worth a shot. Banana also has nice shirts and blouses--I have very broad shoulders and the only problem with them was the bust. I usually shop Thomas Pink for my shirts. hth x

July/August would be rather hot, but then again, not as hot as Dubai! Like Chizz said, HUGE spring break getaway. I went in 92 for Spring Break and it was great :) We started off in Merida, and had a more "cultural" experience. Then we drove through the ruins at Uxmal, which was incredible. We also went to Chichen Itza ruins on the way to Cancun. I couldn't imagine a trip to Mexico without seeing ruins--they are fascinating. I've never been but many of my friends rave of Playa Del Carmen, and my Dad has gone to Cabo San Lucas numerous times for deep sea fishing. I also have to add (sorry) be careful when deciding where to go in Mexico. It is quite dangerous to veer too much off the beaten path these days. It's not like when I was a teen and a small group of us went alone and painted the town red. x

Also if you want to do 2 shakes a day in between main meals, consider a protein powder meal replacement such as BSN's Syntha-6. (I don't work for the company! I just know it tastes great and is a pretty good product!) There is a lot of junk in Slim Fast. If you get a shaker bottle with the blender ball, it just takes 2 seconds to mix up which is nearly as convenient as an RTD. x

Their customer service is excellent and I have not had shipping issues, except the time the lids weren't on tight. Embarrassing when the guy cut open my box at the post office and a poof of white powder flew up in a cloud. Sketchy! lol I emailed them and they replaced it, sent me an entire new order for free.

Lol I'm so glad to hear that you have heard great results from insanity! I need all the motivation that I can get and other than my brothers i don't know anybody else that has done it. I can't believe I'm going to leave work and then go and workout for the 5th day in a row!! And today's CD I have been told is very tough :( I keep saying that I had better seen results else I am at risk of falling off the wagon very soon lol. Altho I have told so many people that I am doing this that I [b'>will look like an idiot if I give up!![/b'> hahaha!!! Sometimes that is enough for motivation! You know, staying motivated is not easy! I'm all about positive thinking. However. I'll readily admit that when I don't feel like running that extra km, doing that last rep, or when I have cabin fever and want to go tie one on with my pals--I [b'>do[/b'> think of negative things. I think of how it felt to be so fat I wore sweats all the time. I think of those ugly lights in the dressing room that highlight every flaw and p!ss me off to the point where I don't buy the clothes I'm trying on. I think about anyone who ever said I couldn't do it. Dig as deep as you have to, just don't give up x

Thanks Beebers. Dinner was nice, and even the kids enjoyed it! I plan to stick to Paleo as long as possible but like you have said before the difficulty is often other people! My husband's boss has invited us for dinner, now I can manage no alcohol as I will drive, but really don't want to offend and say I only eat this and that to someone I have never met before...did you ever face this issue and how did you deal with it on paleo? Will decline the invite until I pass the whole 30 stage, but even then I really don't want to ruin the good work I will have done ...but also do want a social life! Cool! Right--these things always pop up. This is why I tend to always cook all my meals and eat at home, so the 3-5 mandatory social appearances that pop up throughout the month, I don't seem like a stringent bitty! I just eat beforehand at home so I am not hungry, and then practice portion control, avoiding the really loaded items. If the host is imperative about refilling my plate, or whatever, I know those few times a month won't kill me. If you go out to dinner, that's easy. Can always find steamed veggies as a side and I go for fish--they usually don't slap a bunch of butter on that, and I feel it won't have all the preservatives that other meat dishes do. Can't go wrong with a salad, either, just ask for the dressing on the side.

Beebers.....what's that Cream Dory recipe? Tried baking it last night and DH (who normally eats everything) didn't finish. Is it better if fried (was sort of ....dare I say....slimy) Also....for those who are tired of usual Salmon recipes....Try Glazed Salmon with Pak Choy from Gordon Ramsey. Yum Yum! And the Miso stays in the fridge for months!! Skoki, I pan fry them with cooking spray and they never come out slimy. I always make sure the pan is sizzling before i toss the fish on. Then I simply spread Thai Choice red curry paste that I have whisked with lemon juice on the top. I flip after about 3-5 mins and lower the heat. Voila. I also use horseradish mixed in mustard sometimes, that tastes great too. Basically I'll use anything without sugar, oils, hydrogenated junk. :)

Welcome, Skoki :) I just realized Irooni was actually asking how I lost the weight once I was my biggest. Crossfit at first, but then I settled into a routine of cardio (incline treadmill walking) 5 mornings a week, for 30 mins, and 2 weight sessions a week. One lower body, one upper body. Typical diet varied; I usually write a plan, do it for 3 weeks, then switch it. I would have a cheat meal every 10 days, but when I was 6 weeks out from my competition, I would not cheat at all. I can give an example of my eating plan now, which is similar to what I ate then, if you would like. I am following this for the next 8 weeks as I would like a 6 pack again. I am sick of seeing only 4 of my abs.

Beeber I totaly agree! I did the "crash" diet before I moved here a year ago....lost 9kg, then went Brunch and take away crazy. Now I have not only gained back the 9kg but around 5kg more!!! Grrrrrr. BUT there is hope! All I have been eating for the last 6 days is fresh veg (no corn, peas, carrots, potatoes, or beans), small portions (no more than 120gms per serving) of lean meat or fish, NO bread or complex carbs except for very low cal breadsticks, apples, oranges, strawberries, and blackberries. Sounds boring I know, but am going to gradually add carbs and lentils/beans as the weight comes off. Have also consumed my weight in Green Tea!! LOL. So far I have managed to lose 4.5kg and a total of 30 cm! To add to the list of quotes (I really like the motivation one!) Kate Moss "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" Good luck to us all and I agree with Irooni.....Beebers needs to start a "this is what worked for me" thread! :) Skoki, good for you!!! Never in my life have I lived in a city where it seems like every other day there are invites to brunch, happy hours, girls nights---ugh! So much easier to do that than to find a workout buddy! Keep up the good work! Love that Kate Moss quote. People can say what they like about her but that quote rings true for me! x

Hi hilsbils, Happy New Year! Nomad said it well; i've been abroad only 3 years and some long time friendships have just dissipated. Things were said to me that shocked me by one particular friend. It stinks, but it happens, and I know I am better off now. I am sure you are, too, even if it doesn't feel like it at the mo. Also sorry about your pink elephant. :( That must be nearly impossible not to focus on. On a completely different and superficial subject, I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for recommending me your Dubai hairdresser. I feel like I have someone's else hair on my head--mine has never looked this good! What a gem, thanks! Hope 2013 is better than 2012 for you x
