Elmpark, good for you :) I understand it too. I was 102 kilos!!!!! When I say the things I say on here, it is not coming from someone who has not been through the pain, and all the ups and downs and battles. I just know what it takes and I know the only lasting way! People would be surprised what just one week, like you said, of healthy eating does! I don't mean "Well I followed my plan, only had one bag of crisps and a chocolate here and there." that isn't following. Sure you can want to lose weight but if you are [b'>committed [/b'>it is completely different. Everything counts! I wish you all the success, and your dinner sounds yum! x Irooni, I know what you mean, but I have yet to hear of someone say they did something like this, then switched to a healthy lifestyle and kept the weight off. It seldom happens, sadly. :( The Zig Ziglar quote I love is "People say that motivation doesn't last. Well neither does bathing, that's why we recommend it daily." :) edited by Beebers on 06/01/2013

But once you like the way you look naked, there is no going back to eating cr@p! LOL! you learn to love those healthy foods!!! Speaking of which, it's cream dory tonight pan fried in red curry paste. big yum! x

Actually Maroosh, that works out to about 165 dhs a month. My gym charges 199/mo, but even more now so I heard! Not too bad, and maybe someone is looking for 3 sessions with a trainer, so they ca learn how to do weights. Good luck. If I wasn't going to the US for a good while and if I was close to one, I would jump on it. That's pretty good rates!

If you felt like you were on drugs, it because (like i said) DMAA is an [b'>analog[/b'> of [b'>methamphetamine[/b'>. Think about it! This is one of the reasons I left the industry. It is crack in a bottle masquerading as a "health/nutrition" product! Madness! Don't even get me started on where the raw materials come from. Countries you wouldn't even purchase produce imports from. And the GMP certs? (good manufacturing practices) Often forged.

oh to add, his choice of cleaning product for my floor at the time, Lux washing up liquid and water .. thats it ... edited by mushypeas on 06/01/2013 It's the best on shiny floors! lol I use fairy on my current tiles :) At the maid service I worked at eons ago, the company owner insisted we only use dish soap on any kind of marble unless the homeowner had a special product from the manufacturer. It was especially useful on soap scum, but if someone hit it with an abrasive first, well, not much you can do about that.

lol! You know, I dislike commenting on something's effectiveness/safeness unless i have personally used it. The drops? Always heard they were a sham. They were readily available in the US, but got such bad reviews I never tried them. I worked with several people that were on the regular HCG injections, and restricted to a 500 cal a day diet. Then it's a matter of chicken and the egg...which caused the weight loss? Each, and I mean every person I worked with that did the injections gained the weight back after they went back to normal. I don't know where else one would get the drops but order them from UK or USA.

lol @ October :) Not sure what kind of floor surface you have, but I would suggest having her use a product with good degreasing qualities. I swear by Murphy's Oil soap on ceramic, and on marble, I firmly believe that dish soap--a verrrrry small amount--are the best for degreasing. I use vinegar a couple of times a week to mop, but use on of the aforementioned 1-2 times a month. HTH Oh, and how often do the mop heads get washed? I rotate between different mop heads after each mop, and toss them in the machine after using. edited by Beebers on 06/01/2013

SanRan, OxyElite by USP Labs is a sports nutrition product which contains DMAA. It is an analog of methamphetamine. Please research this product. I took it when it first came out as samples for sales reps. Holy cow. Tons of energy, so I guess if a meth analog causes you to run on the treadmill for an hour, sure--you'll lose weight. But just taking it does nothing at all, and I would not recommend it. just saying.

By the way, I am not trying to insult anyone here. I have struggled with my weight for many years--thank goodness that's over. I did plenty of stupid and ridiculous, even dangerous things. Some of my trainers and coaches advised me to do stupid things, and I stupidly listened. I guess I am just baffled why people would rather swallow anything...a pill, a syrup, some exotic juice from xyz island nation, some wild herb that blocks fat found in the depths of Africa--secret until now!! Why would someone rather do this than eat healthy foods like broccoli, fish, etc???

Find an eating plan that works for you--not everyone is a meat eater! But "trying" and being committed to something are two different things. Sometimes you have to be a little more stringent until you reach your goal, then maintain it through a healthy balance. Working out will only get you so far! Increasing workouts is not always the answer! You can't exercise off the wrong diet--and by diet--I only mean the way you eat. If you eat what you've always eaten, you will look the way you always have. Plain and simple. Like another poster said who compared the results of her two brothers who did the same workout program and the difference in their results. Says it all.

Elmpark, I know it is technically dairy, but I added 100% pure whey protein shakes to paleo and it helped me curb sweet cravings. Especially strawberry, yum! The are sugar and carb free, and didn't mess anything up when I was following 100% paleo. I would sometimes drink one at midnight when I would be desperate. :) to add, dairy and I do not get along, but whey protein is so denatured I do not get ill effects.

Others swear by pointing their beds north, I laughed at this one a lot but tried it and it seemed to work? Something about the magnetics of the earth and the poles? Probably just a coincidence but have heard quite a few crew say they have tried this and it works... Which way can I point myself, so I don't snore? :( not too out there, I point my bed where Fung Shui says I should. I suggested this to my Mom who was having issues with centering, etc, and she told me she does not participate in witchcraft :\:

I like this site as an intro to Paleo. Really easy to read and bulletpoints for simplicity. http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2010/10/04/the-beginners-guide-to-the-paleo-diet/ The less energy you expend, the less carbohydrates you need. Paleo has much less complete carbs in the plan than Body for Life, although I like both philosophies. Just walking around, driving around, or running daily errands doesn't count, even though these things are draining :) For someone that doesn't exercise more than 4 sessions a week, Paleo is great. For those who train vigorously, I think Body for Life may be better suited.

I'm taking oxyelite, proper diet and exercise. I hit my plateau so i felt the need to add some pills in my program. It isnt a magic pill tho its just that it helps burn fats and control your appetite. But you would want to check or do some research first before you take any pills. Im just sharing what I'm doing to keep my weight in check. Yes, one should really research using DMAA (analog of methamphetamine) and the effects of even 4 weeks of use. This is why U.S. supplement companies started formulating fatburners without it in 2010--the FDA has been trying to ban it for a while; not sure if they have been successful yet.

I was recently on a cruise and a fellow cruiser's luggage was lost the whole duration of the trip. I really cant imagine having no clothes to wear for 12 days. My DD's luggage went walk about once in Dubai, lucky for her it was delivered 36 hours after landing. ugh! that would be awful! I once moved from one US state to another with 2 suitcases and the airlines completely lost one of them. No underwear, no shorts or pants, no shoes...and I didn't exactly have a lot of $ to replace them. Not the best start! I hate flying in the US as this is not an uncommon problem :(

I have viewed units in both those towers--lovely--but I don't think they have a 1 + study option. they both have lovely views, though. A 2 bed in Bay Central may be within her budget, but usually 2 beds don't feel as roomy as large one bedrooms, as the living area tens to be a little smaller. She may try looking into Marina Promenade, which has 6 towers. I think we looked at the Atessa which had lovely partial seas views, and was a 1 bed + study. Atessa is closest to the street but one of the buildings on the marina side will have nicer full marina views. Although the Promenade is not brand new like Silverene or BC, it is very sought after to live in and well maintained. It says something when many leasing agents I have met live there. They would know! Perhaps have her look at propertyfinder.ae and search the Promenade listings and look at the pics. Hope this helps.

I need help. I m desperate. Nothing seems to work for me. Can anyone suggest a diet plan. I have done a body detox two years back. Where i lost weight (10 kg) and gained it all back gradually. I tried Dukan but dint stick to it. Pls help. I m back to my old shape. Help, how do I get rid of these hips, bottoms and thighs for good? You know what I like? That you said you tried Dukan but didn't stick to it...not that "it didn't work." That choice of wording, plus the fact that you are looking for a diet plan as opposed to asking where to find fat burner pills, or which style of working out burns fat fastest makes me think that you are ready to commit. I recommend people set a weight loss goal of 1 lb/week (about 1/2 kg) so as to not be disappointed. But the truth is, it is different for everyone. A friend of mine lost 20 kgs in 3 months, and he has kept it off for 4 years thus far! He is in no way unhealthy. He just ate right and busted his hump doing crossfit and intensive exercise. One really can't make a sweeping statement about how much weight loss in which amount of time is unhealthy, so ignore the generalizations. I think the other posters mean to say be realistic and don't do something drastic. But 10 kgs in 2 months is not unheard of. Do expect the law of diminishing returns with fat loss. 1st week you may lose 2 kgs, second week 1.5, and so on. Some weeks you may be stagnant as your water levels and glycogen levels balance and adjust. I recommended the Body for Life approach on another thread and I think it is great. I lost 6 sizes in 12 weeks on that back in 2000, and know plenty of others who have done the same with the same program. Perhaps check out that book? If you are 100% committed, there is no limit to what you can do. Good luck, Kate :)

You're welcome :) I hear you--let them do their own thing! Exercise...are you doing any now? I recommend people start with a little cardio and some weights on alternating days if they are currently doing zero. Body for Life also is similar to this. For instance, try doing cardio on a machine (eliptical, bike, treadmill) for 20 mins, 3 times a week. On the alternating days, do weights. I split up my upper body into 2 different days, and do legs the 3rd day. On the 7th day, I rest. Great starter program, and also not hard to maintain as a lifestyle. That is my normal, but one of my goals this year is a killer 5K time and to get back on stage, so I have been running every morning and doing weights 4 days a week. do NOT fear heavy lifting, you'll burn more fat and get nice curves! x

But they were ranked in the Top 3 for Best Taxi Services by Trip Advisor! We must be the problem. LOL! Seriously though, do most travelers book a taxi for pick up? I think their experience might be limited to the malls, attractions, and if they are staying in a hotel (likely!) the concierge will arrange transport for them. If I was a traveler, I would rank Dubai high as well. It's not like Cairo and the gypsy cabs, after all. edited by Beebers on 04/01/2013

Sweetsugar, another thing--you mentioned your DH tried to lose weight on health factory's plan? He could do this, too. My DH is on this plan with me, and it is better if the adults in the household are all on board. He has a few adjustments because he needs more calories, obviously. He adds a whole egg to the whites for breakfast, more chicken and larger serving of rice with a little olive oil for lunch, and eats more fish + added olive oil (and less veggies!) for dinner. He also does 2 scoops of the protein for snacks, whereas I do one.

I like structure too! I am all or nothing! lol Ok Psyllium husk powder is a form of insoluble fiber (do I divulge??) & can be purchased most economically at Dr. Nutrition center in Dubai Mall. 8 oz jar for 55 dhs. 150+ elsewhere! It is tasteless and mixes well into rolled oats or oat bran. It will keep your digestion tract clean and free to absorb nutrients and will not upset or bloat if you only use a teaspoon. ;) BSN's syntha-6 is more a meal replacement than a straight whey. It has some carbs and is pretty filling. It tastes amazing and comes in many flavors! Love cookies and cream :) this shake gives me my sweet fix! You can buy it at Dr. Nutrition also, or practically anywhere. Big red jug, you can't miss it. Any lean fish would do. Cream dory is just my favorite and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I also like tilapia, shark steaks, tuna steaks. Salmon is a little fattier, but not bad to do once in a while. You can also use another lean meat for lunch like turkey, or even lean ground beef. I am just avoiding red meat right now. (Had enough over the hols to turn me into a cow). I only cheat one night per week on this plan, and it is one meal--not one day. If alcohol is in this cheat night, I control my food intake. If it is not, I will eat more sodium and carb rich foods. :)

oh! just re-read. okay. Sweet Sugar, I like Paleo best for people that really can't be bothered to count or measure food. By avoiding grains and the other no-nos on Paleo, one can follow the pillars without much math and still reduce. But how hard is it to measure, really? Yes! Read Body for Life. I did that in 2000 the first time I wanted to lose weight, and went from a US sz. 12 to a US size 4 in 3 months, adding in the workout program! This is my current regimen, super easy to follow. I began 2nd January and since have lost the 3lbs I put on over the hols. :) I do 5 meals a day. 1) 5 egg whites scrambled with oat bran (1/3 cup dry measure) and I add 1 tsp psyllium husk powder. 2) 1 protein shake (I like Syntha-6 by BSN right now) 3) 4-5 oz chicken breast with 3/4 cup cooked measure brown rice, and about 1 cup mixed veggies (frozen peas, carrots, corn & green bean blend) 4) another protein shake 5) 6 oz cream dory fillet, pan grilled with a huge bowl of steamed broccoli and cauliflower. This might sound ultra boring, but a little organic soy sauce, horseradish, mustard, malt vinegar, and curry paste go a LONG way to jazz up veggies, chicken and fish! I am cooking with PAM spray right now, and since I am not using olive oil, I supplement 3x a day with omegas. I get a little healthy fats from the fish, too. :) The only other supplement I take is spirulina, adding a tsp to my first protein shake. Hope this helps! If you need more explanation or info for substitutions let me know.

Lettie, you sound like me. I usually need a 34 inch inseam, and if the jeans fit my thighs, behold, I cannot bend over in them because the waist is huge. Who doesn't love a sale, of course, but good denim lasts years so I don't mind going to Bloomingdales Dubai Mall. Huge selection, and plenty of jeans that fit me. I usually opt for a style that has 2% elastic or stretch to them. Joe's, Citizen, and Miss Me are some of my favorites. Price range is 400-1100 in those.

I know times have changed in that society is more self-absorbed and we're less likely to know who lives next door. But regarding pervs (which is what we're really talking about), have times really changed or is there just more awareness? As a kid back in the day, I had a perv try to whisk me away. He'd been stalking me for days. I ran and told my parents who told the school and there were police patrolling the area for a few days. But thank goodness we were all still allowed to ride our bikes around (limited to around 3 roads) and we would knock on strangers doors to sell blackberries... and I used to love it when little old biddies would chat with us. That's one of the things I love about having a dog now, it gives people a reason to stop and chat. It's just nice. edited by Wednesday Genius on 03/01/2013 WG, I don't know where you grew up, but in the States, I think these changed around 1981 when the Adam Walsh abduction went national. His father now hosts America's Most Wanted. Before then, my Mom would let my siblings ages 9-11 hop on their bikes and encourage them to go ride around, go to the public pool, etc. I think that was a classic case of how media awareness changed things. Pervs have always been around, but media brings reality home. When I was allowed to go out and about, it was on our small block where everyone knew each other and the leash was tight.

Sweetsugar, that's true. Many followers of this lifestyle believe that leaky gut, allergies, and weight gain due to unknown allergies are averted by eating things that are not cultivated through mass farming. But you could also call GMO veggies bad, so unless you are eating organic or local, kind of defeats the purpose. When I eat Paleo style, I easily keep my weight where I want it without counting calories. It is usually something that one who has lost weight adopts as a lifestyle, to maintain the size they are--because sooner or later a lifestyle is necessary, not a diet. Also it's not really necessary to count calories, but I would hope people are mindful of their portions. If you ate a ton of even grass fed beef and lots of fruit and nuts (typical paleo foods)...you could gain weight. Know what I mean? Although, I do know people that have used Paleo as their first line of defense for initial weight loss with success. Like Louise said--Body for Life is also great!! @ Neno, you're very welcome. I will say my favorite ab exercise is with the swiss ball. I lie with my middle back on the ball, and feet on the ground--thighs parallel to ceiling as if I will do crunches. Then, I lift my arms straight above me, and reach for the ceiling with alternating hands. When the left hand points to ceiling, right hand is on right hip, and the right side contracts. Does this make sense?? I do about 3-4 sets of 12. I just figured this out myself, not sure if I can find an image or what to explain better. Really narrows the waist and draws it in! I thought I would come back here and reiterate what Daza said...about your snacks? You said you usually do 3 meals a day and 2 snacks and that you eat healthy. There are "healthy" foods out there that don't help weight loss. Can you describe what your snacks are? And sometimes you eat 2 times a day? Consistency is magic. Have you been successful at keeping your eating identical for 7 days straight? Keep us posted on your progress Edited for confusion edited by Beebers on 04/01/2013

I feel your pain. I take Atarax most of the time as it is :( Some allergy or another plagues me most months of the year. Used to make me sleepy, but no longer. Panadol and Adol PM--yikes. I have tried them, but Paracetamol has to go thru the liver, what, 3 times? Not a good thing to do daily IMO. Melatonin gives me cataclismic nightmares, and St. John's wort--Sandy's right...read up on that. Valerian root works okay for me. But after time, truth is, most people, especially insomniacs will adjust to everything. Best I have come up with is to wake up at like 4:30am, go to the gym about 6am, and by 9pm I am knackered. I just wear myself out and watch mindless tv at night, to shut my brain off. OP I know it might sound ridiculous, but have you tried vigorous exercise early in the day? edited by Beebers on 03/01/2013
