That. :) Do little certificates like Diplomas need to be attested if received abroad? Thanks :) I was told yes. Here is a list of which designations require which certificates. [url=http://91.74.184.68/videoplayer/designations.pdf?ich_u_r_i=84ff74b6685ffdf3868029dec65fd23a&ich_s_t_a_r_t=0&ich_e_n_d=0&ich_k_e_y=1545018922751663512489&ich_t_y_p_e=1&ich_d_i_s_k_i_d=6&ich_u_n_i_t=1'>link[/url'> I *think* that list is current but I may be wrong. Where the designation requires none, attestation is not necessary. But if the designation requires a secondary school diploma, then it needs to be attested. At least, this is what I was always told. Free zones can differ, though, in their requirements. My last couple of jobs have been "Sales" designation which required no certificate, although I have my diploma and transcripts on hand just in case.

Mannikat, that's interesting, thanks for sharing. I prefer Kerrygold cheese and butter :) After reading this thread, I stopped in Waitrose today to pick up a NZ ribeye, and saw there is a new (new to me) brand of eggs called "Golden Irish." They have free range eggs as well as organic eggs, and the price wasn't extortionate. I picked up some free range and plan to look into the brand. I think we are going to see more and more options for lesser prices as the market here demands it.

Sorry ladies for the silence, working with kids doesn't allow for EW during the day lol. Beebers, thank you so so much for all the wonderful advice!!! I will try to start implementing these changes.Interesting what you said about the 30's thing. I am early 30's and my weight gain started about 2/3 years ago. Also, for years I used to work 10 hrs a day, standing and walking. Now for the past 5 years, my work has become much less walking and more sitting. My working hours are also crazy, 8-3, so have the whoooooooooooooooooole afternoon and evening. To eat. I need to start drinking more water for sure yes. I do wake up early, around 6AM at the moment, for the dawn prayer but not sure if I can fit in a work out before work, though I could try. Funny thing is, I love vegetables. I eat loads of them, I just eat too much c**p as well! Wish carrots were addictive, I'd be a lot skinnier. I have decided it is time I kick myself in the bum and get that same bum moving. Thanks ladies so much for your kind words and advice, let's hope for some skinnying the coming months! 8 to 3....well that explains it!! The sitting at work bit makes a huge difference, you are correct. Axe what I said about morning workouts, then--you have more than enough time after work. As long as you get them in, and make it a ritual, that is the important thing. When my DH is away, I often schedule mine in the evenings, kind of like a date with the weights so I don't go stir crazy in the house. I am also a homebody :) Keep us posted, you can do it!! x

Hi Izzy If you are looking for reasonable priced would you compromise on organic? The NZ meat industry has good controls and regulations and high levels of animal welfare. Predominantly grass fed and (very importantly) live animal exports are banned. I'm obviously a bit biased but if not wanting to pay organic prices here I'd go for NZ meat. I always feel a bit like I've been robbed after a big organic meat shop. I wondered when (and was hoping you would) weigh in! Live exports are banned? Someone told me that all meat sold here had to be shipped and slaughtered here. It didn't seem possible to me, but only recently have I started looking into the options. We always get NZ beef, love it. Waitrose has grass fed options as well as "free range."

You are not going to find Liothyronine Sodium here over the counter at any old pharmacy, they don't stock it, only Levothyroxine Sodium (t4) under brand name Eltroxin and one other I can't remember. If memory serves, they only stock this at some hospital pharmacies that mum2girls mentioned, and it is when the doctors there prescribe it. Most people find they have to take in it from their home country.

Marroosh, don't be disgusted with yourself. You are aware of the fact that this is taking a toll on you, and you're honest, which is admirable. It also means you can actually be helped. Since you are aware, you will be able to make conscious changes. I do not think this is an underlying medical issue but do get checked if you haven't in a while for vitamin deficiencies, etc. I can't remember your age, but hormone levels can dramatically change at various stages in your life. Mine took a whomping when I turned 30. If you have factors such as acne appearing (or disappearing) or a change in your hair/nails that's a clue. A diagnosis of any kind however will not change the fact that you need a lifestyle change. Here are some things you can consciously and somewhat easily do that will get you on the right track without major changes, although the results could be major. Firstly, drink more water. You've said before you are tall, and I am guessing your body mass needs a lot more water than 1 liter a day. I'm 77kg and tall, and I drink 3 liters a day. I drink two of those 1.5 liter bottled waters to make tracking this easy. Everyone I have every worked with that increased their water intake by double or threefold experienced a drop in appetite. They also felt less antsy and "snacky." It might be a chore until you adjust. Secondly, if you feel truly well rested on 5-6 hours sleep, then I would shift your schedule to go to bed earlier and rise earlier to make sure you get that workout in before work. You say your motivation for the gym is "eh." The nice thing about morning workouts is you are not worn from the day yet, and not only will you have great physiological and biological effects, you'll feel accomplished mentally. This is more of a discipline thing rather than motivation, but let me tell you, even the best struggle with motivation. It wanes. This is why discipline wins every time. Whether it is the gym, an outdoor fast paced walk, or a simple home routine of jumping jacks, pushups, jump squats and planks, you'll be surprised at how awesome you feel and what a difference it makes. For you, I would strongly suggest getting out of the house for this since you are new to this. Home workouts have a greater chance of getting blown off, or not being intense. Another great thing is you will get in the habit of going to bed earlier because you are worn out come 8pm. However, if you can honestly say your energy is low or you are lethargic throughout the day, consider upping that sleep to 7 hours minimum. 5-6 may not be enough, and you may be snacky all day because you are kind of tired and are looking for that boost all day long, which is what is registering as hunger. Also, longer waking hours means more hours to eat. Nothing magical there. I put myself early to bed often to avoid this :) So there is 2, or 2.5 things off the bat, and both require discipline without telling you to log your calories or eat celery, and do 16 other things. Mastering 1 or 2 lifestyle changes first are important, the other things come, believe me. Eating differently is actually the hardest lifestyle change. In your case, I really wouldn't even start counting calories until you are in a steady exercise routine. Being a homebody is definitely a recipe for the hunger/snacking. Bored eaters--beware. It would be nice if you could get out of the house more, even if it is just going to the bookstore to browse and read, or window shop at the mall to occupy your time somewhere without a fridge. Failing that, you do your own grocery shopping, so don't buy junk, and you won't eat it. Simple, but not easy! On snacks, small sized olives are almost 10 calories a piece, which can add up quickly, and what people don't realize is snacking on those, or nuts, you end up taking in more calories than just eating the bag of crisps that you really want. I am strictly talking about weight loss and keeping calories down, not food quality for health reasons. Pickles save my life. They are great at shutting your stomach up when you need something salty and crunchy. Really, all pickled veggies are good at this. Having carrots, apples, and other crunchy "easy access" vegetables/fruits around are not a bad idea. Master your pantry and fridge. To sum up, drink more water. Adjust your sleep schedule to go to bed earlier so you either 1) get more sleep, eat less by default, or 2) can get to the gym in the mornings (best case scenario!),Be mindful of what you buy at the grocery, as you won't eat what you don't buy. Can't stop you from ordering McDonald's, but wanting McD's less will come with better sleep quality, and getting those morning workouts in. When you bust your butt in the gym, you automatically become more conscious of what you are eating. You think...do I really want to break even by eating this? What's in this, anyway?? Good luck, Marroosh, let us know how you get on!

I have some advice, but also some questions. 1. Are you eating multiple big meals, or just constantly snacking in between large meals? What kindd of foods do you go for most? 2. Were you dieting for a proglonged period of time in the last 6 months? 3. How much water do you drink? 4. How much coffee do you drink? 5. How much sleep do you get?

If you can buy them for 80 dhs a box locally, that's good. It is actually better than what you can buy them for in the US-- more like 90 dhs there. My best friend used to be their Sales Director and he had a hard time getting UAE distributors to pick them up a year or so ago. Bars are a big risk due to short expiration dates and they usually wait until they have local demand as well as a few years' success in the US first. That would be great if they had those, and Power Crunch available for decent prices here :)

I am confused, too. In the first post, OP said 5-7000 Euros a month. But in a reply post, she said the "teaser" offer was 10K a month plus benefits, but the recruitment office mentioned a lower salary? Assuming 10K Euros a month was the teaser and 5-7K Euros a month is what the recruiter said is the reality? OP, since you said negotiations are happening this week, why don't you come back after you know what benefits will be included, as well as housing/school fees? Otherwise it is pure speculation. Hopefully more posters can comment on the differences between Bahrain and Dubai once you have that info. Also--if the negotiations are not complete this week, don't be surprised or discouraged. Often those things take longer than stated in Dubai, in my experience. Hoping for the best for you!

Fida is the biggest one in Satwa, on the main st opposite the mosque, but there are smaller ones scattered around. Just go for a wander and discover. Was going to say the exact same thing. There is another store near Fida, closer to the mosque i think--Juma, something like that beginning with "J?" I've heard their prices are better than Fida, but couldn't find it, and Fida is just fine for me.

[b'>Id say the hosts don't give a toss about 16 quid but are very annoyed about the rudeness of the people who just didn't bother to turn up![/b'> You make a point of having party info including the phone numbers. Its extremely rude to accept, not show up and not let anyone know you're not showing up. Not replying to an invitation at all is obnoxious too!! How this story got on to Sky news though is beyond me! Exactly, and for that matter, people that behave like the no-shows are worth even less time or trouble than chasing 16 quid! DT: to answer your questions, a party I'd certainly like to go to! Re: media circus, it almost sounds like they wanted to "go viral." What a lame aspiration-- but seems to be the trend at whatever cost, doesn't it. They are teaching their kids that when someone inconveniences or is rude to you-- top them and make a much bigger deal out of the situation, rather than learn from it, and make constructive use of your time and energy.

I read that, too. My initial thought was-- what a lot of wasted time and drama for 16 quid, and creating drama for your kid, too, as if plenty of drama doesn't already come with being a school-age child. What I also do not get is, how hard is it to simply tell someone you're sorry, but you're double-booked and can't make it?

You guys sure do. I am on a high floor and it always sounds worse than it is. I wanted to sleep in a bit this morning, but the howling was outrageous. Just noticed this spread has spanned 4 years :) I speak 2, but want to take the plunge for #3. I have been postponing learning Arabic for various reasons, and did worry that it would be too hard to figure out the approach (MSA vs. colloquial), or was waiting for the best course, app, or program. Just excuses. I didn't worry about sounding funny, because on the flip side, I wouldn't laugh at inexperienced or new English speakers, that's terrible. Spanish is also a language with varied dialects, but I found that people were always helpful and kind to correct me-- even when I ordered a most interesting item for breakfast in Mexico as a new speaker. Better to just get started, as it is not like you will learn bad habits that you won't be able to undo. According to a book I paged through, about misconceptions about learning a new language, it is a good idea to just start with something, anything. And if possible, immerse yourself with podcasts, news, tv shows, and whatever you can.

My husband has a 10:00 flight , needs to be at the airport around 8:30 am latest. What is the traffic like going to the airport around 8am? We are new to dubai so unsure of rush hour and traffic issues. We live in the greens. If he takes a taxi at 7:30, he should be fine, even with traffic which should not be real bad at that time. If you want to be extra cautious leave at 7. I never mind having extra time at the airport, certainly tons to do! I recall it getting dicey around 8am on the highway, and live near you. I think the metro also takes about an hour to get to the airport, so he would have to leave at the same time, essentially.

Also, VicM, do they knock on your door and talk to your maid, or just see her out and about and come up to her? I've never been in a compound before, so I don't know the proximity of the watchmen to your home. If they are going out of their way to speak to her, and saying things disturbing things like this....that is what I would consider harassment, don't you think? Is it possible for you to see proof of this...."directive?" edited by Beebers on 18/01/2015

Well the peace didn't last long did it! Turns out its more the watchmen/maintenance guys in the compound that are fed up with the cats, stray and owned, fighting at night, causing other problems like the neighbour and her dirty cushions. So the neighbour might be ok, but these guys are not! They have been stirring things up with our maid for the last 2 days. [b'>Today the watchman said he had killed one of the stray cats that was fighting, and possibly some kittens he found in the compound (he was very evasive). The municipality has told him he can even kill cats with collars outside the compound as they are not allowed out. [/b'> Think we definitely need to get out of here! I've got to the end if my tether and don't think we can rationalise with these guys. Cats in general just seem to be too much of a problem at the moment in areas like this where I'm told the locals half heartedly 'own' them with no responsibility and let them breed. Sorry, but WTF!? Big man, eh? (saying it is even true). I wouldn't paint everyone with the same brush, though, although it seems certain there is no love for cats in your compound. I used to work in an office in a government building here, and have seen strays fed religiously and protected from cruelty by anyone who would bother them, on behalf of the watchmen. One of the young strays got hit by a car, and one of the watchmen helped me splint his leg, we got him back kicking, and we "adopted" him out to a very nice local man who also worked in my building.

DubaiLynn, I think you just need to have "the talk" with your guy. You are talking about kids, are the two of you even talking about marriage at this point? You might be putting the cart before the horse. I would not have someone talk to him, for two reasons. Firstly, you are self admittedly not devout, so isn't that a little hypocritical to ask someone who is not religious to be semi devout like you? That messenger would be shot, so to speak. Secondly, if your intent is to marry the man, you need to do him the favor of taking him as he is. As Ummuhammed pointed out, though, this may not be an option for a Muslim as it may be considered living outside the law. I may be lambasted for this, being devout to any religion doesn't make one a good life partner or parent. I know some amazing, kind, and generous people with excellent morals who are atheist. I also know plenty of people who practice religions to the tee, and well, hey--none of us are perfect. Just saying, it is not a guarantee. Marroosh also mentioned that religion can hold a marriage together, which I have witnessed in my own family, and yes it can....not that 20 years of misery with that common thread did any good for the parties involved, nor the children, but I digress. Aside from the aforementioned, if your concern is that he would openly taunt or mock your religion, or preferred way of bringing up these hypothetical children, then that is someone that doesn't respect you to begin with, which is the biggest issue of all. Have the talk and bite the bullet.

Well..............thank goodness someone said "Run" after the previous replies to the OP's second post. I sat on my hands today because I thought my reply might sound too cynical, but please ladies. don't encourage the OP to continue a relationship which will only bring her a lifetime of unhappiness. To the OP. yes. of course he cried, and sobbed and promised to change.............they all do, the philanderers, the users, the wife beaters. Why did it take a long heart to heart before he realised he was behaving so badly? Because he doesn't know any better, he has no concept of anything other than indulging his own desire, but he will be very adept at convincing you that he is oh so. so sorry, until the next time. It's called being a sociopath, he can never be "normal". it will always be about him. And that sadly is something that will not change. There are decent men out there, don't settle for worse than second best, and don't even begin to think that you can fix the unfixable. And being alone is not as bad as losing your self............which is what will happen if you try. LT, I understand you, but all we can do is wish her luck and that she will make the right decisions based on what is best for her, no? After posting on this forum quite recently asking for lengthy advice about a wedding she seemed quite set on, she has now postponed it after a unanimous response from other forum members she doesn't even know. That's a step. Every time I see posts on here that I can fully relate to regarding dodgy men, I also want to say RUN, especially when there is no marriage or kids involved. I'm very empathetic to that stuff and my heart aches. However I think Bonbon is smarter than we are giving her credit for, and she knew what to do before she even asked. She just needed validation. Now that she has some support, I am sure she will do what's best for her.

I am happy with Noor Bank, and have been with them for 4 years, as that is where my employer at the time banked--salaries hit faster. Their customer service is awesome. My only gripe is a lack of ATMs--they are not that many compared to something like Emirates NBD, so I may switch one day. Have heard great things all around about them for personal banking and have a ton of locations.

OK, I was trying to figure out if that's a reality show? I thought hey, that's dangerous! But actually I now have been binge watching "Untold stories of the ER" because there was a link on the page. So thanks, AA, now I don't have to leave the house this weekend! lol

Agree with all that you say, but playing around with them just for fun makes a nonsense out of the whole purpose don't you think? Well, I think the overall helpful nature of the ladies on this forum outweighs any nonsense.

There are certainly a lot of posts to the admins on this forum, and they seem to actually oblige a lot. Must be exhausting! And whenever there's threads about the thumbs, invariably, the people who respond liking or disliking the change get many thumbs down, lol! In the before-time, if you felt strongly enough, you posted to express your dissent. Now one can simply thumb down a post without having to come out of the woodwork, but that doesn't seem to stop people from posting in disagreement, so at least it has not made the forum totally boring. I'm sure there is a mixture of thumbs down given to say "oh, that sucks" or "I don't like you" or "I disagree or am offended" or even, as it seems, "you are too happy and optimistic about moving here, and getting a good job package." Seriously, I see a ton of thumbs down for those posters and I can't figure that out! Or the innocuous "where do I buy a good toaster" posts!? Someone's just having fun. edited by Beebers on 15/01/2015 edited by Beebers on 15/01/2015
