i got mine done about 4 years ago at charly polyclinic in Karama- they were awesome, and they have a lab onsite so you don't have to wait obscene amounts of time between making the molds, getting the veneers made, and final application. they were also not very expensive at all - compared to what clinics in jumeirah were charging it was practically free (but wasn't) don't be put off by the karama location - the clinic is clean, big, well laid out, organized, and the practitioners are good. i got mine done by dr jyoti. good luck

just met a friend with kids at hartland - the feedback from her surprisingly was nice, that the kids were very well cared for and apparently the head of primary used to be at widad learning centre, which is now unfortunately closed. Widad was closed, I'm not sure it was unfortunate based on feedback from the inspection reports or friends I know who had children in there. Feedback from my friends with children in the school is not the same as your post. interesting. i had heard only good things about widad as an alternative inclusive learning environment. also i'd take your feedback from your friends over the khda/MOE inspection reports any day - there's a skewed sense of whats important in education here. regarding hartland, i too have only heard negative things, which is why i mentioned in my post that it was surprising. What do you consider a skewed sense of what's important? On what basis can you justify your statement? on the basis that i don't blindly accept institutional rulings, have studied the framework, have first hand experience with the schools and inspecting bodies, and refuse to drink the kool-aid. also on the basis that it's my opinion and you neither have to agree with it nor like it. OP: you'll get alot of mixed reviews about lot of the schools. it's always best to go check out the schools first hand, meet other parents, speak to teachers, and follow your gut instinct. good luck

Hi Princess87 I have noticed you've posted a few times re help regarding for your ovarian cysts. I honestly don't think you will get the answer you require through this forum. I strongly suggest you look up your options regarding a qualified doctor who will listen to you regarding your medical history and then look at a way forward/treatment. I developed three large ovarian cysts through fertility treatment. I was immediately told to stop trying to conceive. I was then monitored through scans to see if the cysts would go away themselves (they did) otherwise I was told i would need an operation to remove them. I can only stress to you that lots of people will have lots of different stories as to how they got rid of/prevented reoccurring cysts but everyone is different and you really must visit a reputable doctor who can treat you on an individual basis suited best to your needs/situation. I know how frustrated and helpless you feel but the sooner you find a doctor who can talk you through your options, the better you will feel for being one step closer to having the baby you desperately wish for. :-) hi dear juju thanks alot for your reply ...please tell me which dr you visited for your ovarian cyst problem....its too stressful not conceiving and looking for a good Dr in abu dhabi. Please tell me any good dr in abu dhabi .Please ladies could you plz tell me can i go for ivf if having cyst ...i have checked on internet Dr can do cyst aspiration and do ivf also. you need to see a doctor who has expertise in the field and can answer your questions regarding your cyst and how/if you can conceive. you should also see more than one doctor: a second opinion is always important. i have had complex ovarian cysts and have had them laparoscopically removed (minimally invasive). i was able to conceive with my cyst, which was fairly large. if you don't find a good dr in abu dhabi, take the trip out to dubai. your health is more important than convenience.

before you put anything on your face, especially something like accutane, see a doctor. also, before you see a doctor i HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Sebamed foaming face wash. had a sudden outbreak of cystic acne when i was in my late 20s after having flawless skin my whole life. the face wash cleared out the most stubborn pimples in only 2 days!! you have to be sure to get the FOAM - you let the foam sit on your face for about 5 minutes then rinse off. do it twice a day and moisturize after with a lightweight moisturizer. also: have you changed your diet? been under stress? i'm not discounting there might be an underlying medical reason for the acne (hormones etc) but often times we're so quick to ignore the obvious environmental factors that can cause disturbances in our norm. lastly: 5 liters of day is a bad idea: keep it to 2 liters. there is such a thing as too much water intake! good luck!

it's nursery - there's really isnt any curriculum. they have french teachers and english teachers, and you can choose to have your child with one or the other. i really liked the nursery and the facilities. another negative besides the no food provided (which is not a big deal to some parents) is there's no outdoor play area, but they use the park across the street i believe. also no uniform (also not a big deal to some parents). good luck.

La Sam - it truly is a wonderful community. we're very comfortable here, and very happy. there's nothing pretentious about the place, it's just a good old fashioned suburb, with all the good that entails. we're also away from the hustle and bustle and madness of downtown dubai and Sheikh Zayed Road (the road that cuts through the center of old to new dubai from Downtown all the way to the Dubai Marina) but only 15 minutes away. We don't have a hospital here yet (although they are building a massive one currently) but we have several clinics, and our pediatrician, who happens to be one of the best in Dubai miraculously ended up having an office here in DSO in addition to his practice in Healthcare City. School-wise, the GEMS schools in DSO gets mixed reviews, but it is a huge school, and really really nice facilities. I dont have any children there but friends and neighbors whose kids do attend have generally good things to say about it. there are a whole host of schools very closeby that would only take you about 10-15 minutes to get to, even during the morning rush - repton, Kings nad al sheba, GEMS Firstpoint the Villa, Dubai English Speaking College (secondary school) Just saw that you mentioned you were given places at DESC- i would DEFINITELY recommend DESC- they are a fabulous school and your children will thrive there. I personally am a bit apprehensive of the GEMS machine - and if you read the DESC reviews online you will see that the feedback has been quite exceptional. let me know if you have any specific questions!

we have always flown with the car seat -- usually the people onboard dont even know their own rules and regulations for carseat usage-- if your car seat is FAA approved then it can be brought on board and used on board. we've always studied the rules, especially for the airlines we're flying (mostly emirates and US domestic airlines) so that we can quote it to them if/when they give us any lip service about it not being allowed. know your rights! your child's safety is first. the first 8 months of my son's life we traveled with his infant bucket seat, after that when he outgrew it and was moved into the booster seat, we started traveling with our diono- which is heavy and massive and huge BUT folds!!!! and can be carried in a bag with shoulder straps!

how old is the child you'll be putting in nursery? we really liked babilou for infants & toddlers. i wasn't so convinced on their programs for older kids, but i went to see them when they had just opened (october 2015) so they may have made better arrangements. gorgeous facility, great staff, great ethos. they don't serve food so you'll have to send your own.

i LOVE physician's formula!! you can get them on iherb.ae -- i'm telling you, i was such a beauty product snob, and was buying super expensive super designer products but it was killing my wallet and it was killing my skin. these people know what they're doing. also, amazingly, the body shop has fantastic makeup -- not sure they're organic, but they're cruelty free which is also really important for me. LUSH and llamasqua are also big favorites - cruelty free products.

Dr. Rolf Soehnchen at BR medical suites in healthcare city. also sits at symbiosis medical center in silicon oasis. german man, and very stoic in manner (brusque, no chit chat, dry) but an excellent doctor. i had dyshydrotic eczema on my hands and he's the only one that knew what it was and gave me something to help it and find the root cause of it. check him out. i hated him when i first went to him when i was pregnant but he grew on me.

it almost feels like a game - who can get away with the most ridiculous and absurdly high fees and still sell it to parents (who are also paying!!) i don't get it. tuition for kg is more than i paid for a year at university. like 4 times more. i am just flabbergasted.

i can't be the only that is sick and tired of hearing schools and nurseries being advertised on the radio. i am absolutely disgusted by it. can't put my finger on why exactly...but it really bothers me. hartland is a big radio ad offender. sunmarke is another one.

hello and welcome! i currently live in DSO, having moved out here 2 years ago from downtown dubai and i absolutely love it. it is peaceful, it is clean, it is safe, and it is such a wonderful diverse community with all the amenities you need. you almost never need to leave Silicon Oasis. i think its absolutely hilarious when people say Silicon Oasis is "far from the city" being 10-15 minutes away!! i'm from new york and if you're 1 hour from the city, you're still considered close. boy, do we get a bit spoiled living in Dubai. Silicon Oasis is ideally situated -- you're only 10-15 minutes away from Downtown, about 30 minutes to the Dubai Marina and no more than 15-30 minutes from anywhere you need to go in and around Dubai (not barring traffic of course, which is a whole other story...) good luck!

to answer your question re: school fees, american curriculum, the answer is: exorbitant. homeschooling is legal, and has quite a few followers here in the UAE. i believe another poster here mentioned DUNEHA. check them out. theres a k12 brick and mortar building offering the homeschooling program in a classroom setting i believe in knowledge village, but i have no idea about fees, ages, etc

congratulation on the new addition! nursery/day care is a daunting task- we all only want whats best for our little ones. there are nurseries that will accept infants as young as 45 days old (this is the length of many working womens' maternity leave). there are many great nurseries in JLT and the marina area. i've decided to keep my son home the first year of his life, but i have that luxury because i work from home and run my own business. i have that flexibility and know many moms do not. consider what you desire from your nusery - type of staff, activities, facilities, ethos, hours. good luck!

it boggles my mind that contraceptives (and everything else for that matter) is sold OTC here. absolutely boggles my mind. where contraception is concerned your doctor is most definitely who you should be consulting - based on your individual body/history there may be a solution that is best for you. you may have to try different ones, you may not have to. but asking a forum of random strangers to decide is a bad idea - happy to give you feedback on my own experience with bc but i am on depo so would not really be of any help. ASK A DOCTOR. ALWAYS. also: webmd & google do not count as consulting a doctor. good luck and good health!

i was looking at this nursery for my son as well to begin in the fall (2016). they were hosting a 3 day free trial from 8a to 12p for interested parents. I took my son for the first day just to scope things out. the facilities are nice. the staff are nice. its new so everything was clean and looked like new as well. they don't have that many students currently. they have flexible timings, and food is offered as part of fees. i didn't encounter any native english speaking teachers or staff, which was a concern for me. also i felt everyone was trying "too hard". maybe i'm just extremely sensitive, but i think its better to just be natural and comfortable around the children. i have enrolled my son at little land montessori for the fall and am very happy with my decision. the only drawback is the latest hours they offer are until 2 so this is a conflict for many working parents.

hi all-- i have an excellent OB/GYN but i'm looking for a good GP. so far my experiences have been appalling- they have ranged from comically incompetent to grossly incompetent and i have tried about 4 so far! i need to see someone who's not gonna just prescribe me antibiotics when i have a cold (how does anyone with a medical education even think thats okay?) but someone thorough, understanding, competent, and maybe with a little more than average understanding of the female body. i'm in silicon oasis so someone close-by ish would be great. thanks!

thanks big blue! they told me about the winter concert-- i already stopped in to see the nursery and really liked how "alive" it felt without being or feeling "chaotic". i also liked that it felt very "lived in". not sure if i can attend the winter concert, but let me know how it goes! my concerns, as with any nursery, is how they handle discipline (we don't do naughty chairs or rewards/stickers systems) and also how they encourage children to be independent. i don't want my son sitting there being spoon fed because its easier or faster-- we prefer for him to eat and do things himself. also -- do you have any feedback on how technology is implemented in the nursery? i noticed quite a few ipads and screens in the shared common areas, but it's not something we use with our son. are they exposed to TVs and ipads on a daily basis? thanks again for all your help-- i really appreciate you taking the time to give your feedback!

thanks big blue! went to see the nursery today, i really liked it. was really pleased with the head teacher and the nursery manager- really passionate people. i liked that they have all these activities for all the children, even the babies, and that they have language, music, and art programs. my concern is with the sheer size of the nursery - they are at 200+ kids. have u felt this has been an impediment at all? what about the teachers? have ur experiences with them been positive? thanks again in advance for all your help!

understandable- i myself was absolutely appalled. i went around doing a few school visits and could not possibly believe how a school is opened and accepting students when there is still massive construction going on!!! how is this allowed? and what the **** are we paying full fees for? if there's only half a school built i'm only paying half the fees. i ain't sending my kid to study in some construction site, trying to learn his times tables with a jackhammer going off in the background. NO THANK YOU. that being said. it's mostly the unfinished schools that have spaces. the sword cuts both ways. sigh.

GO AND SEE EVERY SCHOOL. the ones that "sound good" or "look good" online may be horrible in person, and vice versa.

thanks ladies! @daza, like i said, i understand theres a wait time, and i understand how triage patients are assessed in accordance to the nature of their illness/injury. my issue with rashid was what i outlined above-- gross incompetence/apathy from the doctor and the horrific racial profiling of the nurses. thank you for the get well wishes! you don't realize how important an ankle is until you can't walk on it!!

thanks ladies-- i always went to rashid whenever there was a problem-- but the wait times are SO LONG and the doctors i saw there both times i went were just completely incompetent. my foot was OBVIOUSLY swollen, they sent me to xray after i waited for 3 hours, and then i come back to the dr who just says no fracture and orders a nurse to give me an injection and then i have to wear a compression bandage. like HELLO-- what do i have? how do i treat? how long do i wear the bandage? how long wont i be able to walk? and what did u order the nurse to inject me with??? until i asked he didn't say anything!! ABSURD. not only that i saw some very disturbing behavior from the nurses there who were taking care of patient registration. as soon as a western looking (white) person came in, they immediately moved them to the front of the line and they were seen by a triage nurse with NO WAIT. it happened 3 times when i was there and i finally opened my mouth and said something. i got SO ANGRY!!! i understand that theres a wait time involved whenever you go to an emergency room, but the condition i witnessed there yesterday was horrendous and the medical care even worse.

theres a school in ajman completely run by the family that owns it that caters to super low income pakistani/afghani/indian families, especially trying to help the girls, who often get neglected education-wise in these communities. they fund everything themselves, and have the lowest tuition fee in the country (something like 500dhs a month!) they are always in need of resources- anything and everything is always appreciated. i am in dubai and try to send stuff up there as much as possible - if anyone is interested let me know, i'm happy to collect stuff and pass it on up.

are there any Kings Nad Al Sheba parents on here? any feedback on the school now that the school year has started? (also, any ideas if this school has any "feeder nurseries"?) would be interested to hear experiences regarding the school building/construction, curriculum, teachers, management, overall culture, student body? is it different/similar to the original Kings? how rigorous are the academics? i'm looking for a school that has rigorous (but not crazy boot camp) academics, but also emphasizes sports, arts, culture, music, etc and has a nurturing environment. i want highly qualified native English speaking teachers and small classes. Am i asking for too much? We live in DSO so would be ideal for a school to be closeby. Thought Kings fit the bill-- not interested in Repton or GEMS.
