Just to add to RachelA's post - I would recommend seeing the Loydence on Azizya - not the other one. We went to the other school when we were on our look/see, which is tiny and we didn't feel was suitable at all for our children... we didn't get to see the other school, but I gather it is massive, purpose built and far more suitable. Having not seen it, I couldnt say more than that... :-) HTH, BG

Hi there, I haven't yet set up banking arrangements, but in talking to those in my organisation, the feeling was that the people who had gone with HSBC regretted it, and that QNB was seen as a good option too... HTH, BG

P18PPS - what about Loydence Azizya - there is someone on this board whose child(ren) goes there who wrote positive things about it recently - might be worth searching for the thread and asking them for more details (I don't know what age they go up to). Best wishes, BG

P18PPS, as the PP said, the Sherbourne head indicated that they are growing through the school (though I don't know which year they are currently expanding into), so if your child got into Yr 10 this year, there would be a Yr 11 next year as that class would move up. Also, once you get one child into a school, in most schools your other children will get bumped up the list due to sibling preference. I've been told by a number of people that schooling appears to be a bit of a nightmare, but that it does seem to work out - which was our experience - but very stressful whilst you are trying to sort it out... Good luck, BG edited to add - we registered with 5 schools before getting places which is also what we'd be advised to do, so a number of these schools may have children on their lists who are registered with a number of schools... edited by BerkshireGirl on 07/05/2012

Hi there, I saw your post on the britexpat site... We've been to Sherbourne, which is really impressive - though the wrong location for us. Doha British School also goes from primary through to secondary (though they do International Baccalaureat, so that may or may not suit what you are looking for). We haven't arrived in Doha yet (will do in the next couple of months), but schooling was something we were keen to sort early too... Good luck... BG

Another here who has eaten Mopane worms (only once, voluntarily though!), and half a cockroach (not voluntarily, the thought of finding the other half still makes me want to heave!)... BG

Hi Dan Lou That's a really good idea, and actually a friend of mine in the UK suggested the same thing to me a couple of days ago too... I will definitely look into that. Places are not yet forthcoming at any of the schools I've registered with, but I suppose they've all been on holidays for a little while so hopefully I'll hear back soon! Thanks again... BG

Thanks Chardfan I have registered with Sherbourne - though not ideal location-wise, but I'm just hoping that the children get into a school so we'll be happy with what we get (from those we've applied for)... I didn't know that they did after school clubs - so that's definitely a bonus... Thanks again, BG

Thanks BEDH, The company doesn't have an in with any specific schools, but I have registered with 5 of them so far... we'd be in a compound off the Al Waab road so some are less convenient location wise. They only cover just over QAR 20,000, so there'd be quite a gap between that and somewhere like Compass... :) Thanks for the tips on housemaids! Have a good weekend, BG

Good point on the hours Lalala - I hadn't thought of that - I know mine, but not hubby's! I'm hoping to get to a Doha Mums meet in a couple of weeks time when I'm over, so will ask them then too... Thanks for the help - it's really appreciated! BG
