Hi Crystals. They have moved about a month ago, I wanted to have my dd birthday party at their place but it wasn't possible anymore. I think they moved April 9th but they didn't mention where to. I do know that they have certain activities at a hotel but nor sure which one (just threw out their folder a few days ago). Not much help, I know...

Received a call from Carrefour Customer Service this morning: Guy; Yes ma'am, I want to ask if you are satisfied with the service you received at Carrefour After Sales Service. Me; No, I am not. I took back a broken laptop last week and yesterday they told me there is nothing wrong with it and there's nothing they can do. Guy; Okay ma'am, thank you *hangs up the phone* ???

Hey JR. I have terrible skin (as you know) and I see Sally (beautician who comes to your house) every 5 to 6 weeks. She uses the Beauty Lab range and I see a big difference. I use the face wash and microdermabration creme daily/weekly and she did a mild chemical peel last week. The pigmentation is almost completely gone and the acne and scars are slowly disappearing. Very happy!

Are there any countries that don't make you pay??? Yes there are UK Spain France Cyrpus Greece and al european countries In fact many many people go to uk just to get chemo or radiotherapy ! Interesting - as a tax payer in any of those countries I would not be happy to foot the bill for someone who has done nothing to contribute to the social insurance of the country he or she is receiving expensive medical treatment from Interesting - well obviously you are not as you live in a "tax free" country Interesting - lets hope should you or one of your family be diagnosed and need life saving chemo your health care compnay deems to pay it for the duration of the treatment If I was still a tax payer in my home country I would not have a problem with saving lives ....................... Well said!!!

Can anyone give me some advice on this one; We bought a Samsung laptop at Carrefour on April 19th, it broke down on April 21st (shutting off completely 3 times in 24 hours and making a weird rattling noise). Took it back on the 22nd and they told me they were going to send it to the service center to see what was wrong. I told them that I wanted a refund or a replacement as supposed to a repair (it says at the back of the receipt that if it breaks down within 7 days, you will receive refund or replacement) but they said they first needed proof that it was indeed broken. They also told me it would be back within 5 working days (we are moving shortly and don't have much time left). So today, after 10 days, I call them to ask where my laptop is and they say 'still at service center'. I told them I needed it back before Wednesday and 2 hours later they called me to say that they found the cause and that they will fix it within 48 hours. So I told them 'NO I want a refund or replacement and not a repair'. Then, an hour later, Carrefour calls me again to say that nothing is wrong with the laptop and it is ready for pick up... ?????????????? So, my questions are; What are my rights? What do I do when they refuse giving me a refund? Were can I go and who can I talk to after all this? TIA

There is this new place on Wasl Rd in Jum 1. Don't know the name and they don't have website but they do exactly what you describe. We experienced the opposite; wanted a nice relaxing oil massage, went there without knowing what a Thai massage was... Dh and I talked about it for days (and not in a good way... LOL). If you drive towards Iranian Hospital coming from Emirates bank, it's on the second service rd.

Early mornings are nothing short of a nightmare! (Rumour, KG1/FS1 is 3-4 years old. Schools typically start around 7:30-7:45 am) Things that help in our house - all lunches made the night before and packed in fridge - uniforms all laid out - breakfast things all laid out even teabags in cups waiting for water to be poured :D - school bags all packed the night before with that day's activity i.e. library book etc. stressssssss! Imagine that times 4!!! MB is right; try to do as much as possible the night before. I have a routine for everything. As soon as the kids come home, they take off their uniforms, I check if they are dirty and put everything on the counter for the next day, including shoes, undies, socks. Empty their bags, read notes, put everything in for the next day (except lunch lol) and put them next to the door. Done! Takes 5 minutes.

There are two security gates to enter our villa compound, visitors and residence. The other morning my DH pulls up at the residence gate, waits for security guard to press the magic button, nothing. Security guard comes out with his clipboard... SG - "Morning Sir, which villa you go to?". DH - "Villa nbr 000". SG writes that down on his clipboard. SG - "Your name sir?" DH - "You want my name?" SG - "Yes Sir" DH - "But I live here!!!" SG does more writing on his clipboard, gate goes up... SG - "Thank you Mr ButIlivehere, have a good day". DH was just too tired to correct him and drove on through. Haha! A bit the same happened to my friend at work in Finland! My friend: So can you send the letter to ABC Management? Phone: To what? *My friend repeats* Phone: To A B D Management? My friend: Oh well... Can you send it to Apple-Bubble-Copper Management? Got it? *she tries to make the letters clear* Phone: Ok. 2 days later she receives a letter to Apple Bubble Copper Management :D Similar one; DH calls for a brochure and asks the receptionist to send it to NISSAN EUROPE. Few days later envelope arrives addressed to NISSAN YURP...

It depends on whether you send her on the plane with her employment visa in her hands (more expensive, called 'in-country visa') or you first send her out, then have visa made and send/faxed to her and then have her come back. The second option is not that easy, maids sometimes have to wait for days/weeks to get their papers and to find a seat on a flight back.

I think dhs 1500 is fine for 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. You have to add around dhs 500-600 for accommodation though.

It's more about the principle. It's about people assuming it's OK not to give you what is rightfully yours. @ Nimo: please have a read. All those "pennies" add up. [i'>With an estimated total of between 500,000 to 800,000 households in the UAE, the gross money lost by customers in the process is between Dh5 and 8 million, which works out between Dh50-Dh100 million per year.[/i'> Full article: http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/special-report-don-t-leave-without-your-10-fils-1.789596 Do you realize that this comes to dhs 5,5 A YEAR per person!!! That's GBP 0.91. Take into account the amounts that are rounded DOWN and the amount probably drops to GBP 0.50 (a year, that is)... Still not sure why everybody gets so upset about this.

I hate too. Years ago I decided to make a point: at a supermarket I always got 1 chewing gum for 25 fils, so I kept them in my handbag until I had 4 gums and used them in the shop for 1 dhs. What a story, the cashier refused to accept these so we got the GM who had no option but accept and I think they got my point. I must admit customers thought I was mad. *LIKE*

We are from the Netherlands and took our maid with us last summer for 6 weeks. No problem getting a visa. I have 4 children and my dh had to work while we were there so I really needed her. And it was perfect! Yes, it will be weird for family/friends; my mother insisted that she sit down with us for lunch and dinner but she kept on refusing (I don't bother asking anymore but my mum thought I was just being a mean 'boss'...).

Hey Crystals! Yes! I planned the whole morning of yesterday to hunt for beads and the first place I went to (actually second; beach centre didn't have any) I found loads at the Crystal House in Al Hanna Centre (thanks for the tip A Rancher!). They have beautiful swarovski crystals but they were a little expensive (around dhs 20-30 each). So I went for the glass and acrylic ones. Not as nice but they are fine. Will check out the souq next week!

I was at Dragon Mart last week but didn't find any. Do you remember where? Not exactly but if you can find the area where the bead shops are, its on the left hand side of the main thoroughfare (if you have your back to the main entrance). It was a shop that appeared to be two units joined together at the back. It had a beads etc hanging near one entrance and some lamps & chandeliers on the other side plus "tables" in the central floor area beyond each door way - it was in one of these that I spotted the crystals - lots of different sizes. Hope that helps even if it sounds a bit vague. Thanks. Will have a look there too. Does anyone know if the wholesale souq sells bigger (20mm) glass beads, preferably teardrop or pear shaped?

Thank you for your replies, it's really making me wonder now but I'm pleased I researched this now. Bianca72 and Agent Oso please could you tell me what obsterican you used and where. Mine was Dr. Sima Deghani, she is at Medwin Clinic (Jum 3) and uses Medcare hospital for births. Thank you Bianca72, did Dr Sima do both ops? How was your recovery? She did my 3rd c-section (I had the others in US and the Netherlands) and she cut away the scar during the operation. Recovery was quick and painless. Better than the other two. Not sure why though. Was up and 'running' after 3 days.

Honestly, if I could go back I would just get a Maxi Cosi like everyone else.... There is a reason why they are so popular! :) Hi Novice, Whats that reason??? For me, that would be quality! I used Maxi Cosis for all 4 of my kids and they just don't break. I had a Graco and a Chicco also but to me it seems that after a while, they just fall apart (kind of). Maxi Cosis are very sturdy, easy to use, easy to clean, fit on several stroller systems, not too heavy or big, just perfect!

Agree - Sounds about right to me. Contractually, 1 ticket per year or the money equiv. Also, you have to pay the salary for that month but not necessarily the 13th month bonus payment on top. We do pay the 13th month and have that as an caveat in our contracts. Ok so i am right shes trying to pull a fast one one me. So when she goes to phillipines i only have to pay her the normal 2000 dhs salary and buy her a ticket ? Not 4000dhs ? If we do not renew her contract this year we still pay her and extra 2000 dhs and money for airticket? after the contract has finished. The 13th month payment (or an extra month on top of month's salary) for the holidays is fairly typical so she may not be trying to pull a fast one. I would say that this March's trip is a delayed trip from last November and not an early trip for this coming November, which is what i believe she is trying to negotiate. edited by mover and a sheikha on 15/03/2011 MAAS, she is only working for her for 4 months, not 16 so she is not entitled to anything right now.
