At the well known baby store M....care: Me: I have the Maxi Cosi Pebble and I need a bigger seat now because my DD has outgrown it, she's more than 10kg now. Do you have a Group 1 seat that fits on the Family Fix base? Shop assistant:Yeas maam, the Pebble! Me: No, I told you I ready have the Pebble and it's small, I need the next size up. Do you have anything? Shop assistant: Maam if you don't want the Pebble we have other seats, like this one (points at one that looked a bit small) Me: so for what weight is this? Shop assistant: Newborn to 13 kilos maam Me: I told you I don't want Group 0, it's too small, what else do you have and is there anything that will fit the Family Fix base? Shop assistant: No maam, only the Pebble.... Me: Fine, thank you And I walk away although they have about 20 seats on display and I know at least 2 of them fit FF, but couldn't deal with it anymore...and they say go to a shop with specialized staff who can advise you on the right seat and show you how to install it....

I was told by the Dr that until DD has several teeth it is sufficient to clean the ones she does have by wiping with a wet piece of gauze. I also bought a toothbrush set from C4, it's the brand Pigeon which is generally quite good, and it has 3 "toothbrushes", the stage 1 and 2 are not toothbrushes in the common sense but rather soft rubber with little spikes etc to moderately clean teeth but mostly calm the gums and LOs used to holding a toothbrush. I noticed a wide variety of babies and kids toothpastes at C4 in MCC recently but as DD only has 2 teeth I haven't researched it further. You could probably find what you need there.

They used to have it at Bloomingdale's at the Home section but I haven't been in several months so not sure if they still do. Lafayette also has a big Home section with nice things perhaps you could call both up and check. edited by Big blue on 24/06/2013

Flying out of Dubai with formula and water is not an issue, flying back may be an issue depending on which country you're flying from and how strict they are with liquids at security. I've done both the preboiled water in the bottle and pre measured formula as well as the pre-prepared formula they sell in cartons (e.g. Aptamil, SMA...). The latter is much easier but depends if your LO likes the carton milk, why don't you try before you fly and see? Additionally, if your LO is not too young (let's use 6 months as the cutoff) you'd be fine using the hot water the crew can give you on the flight, in fact I even had to use that in an emergency feeding situation when DD was 5 weeks old and she was fine. I'm only saying this because some people feel that water is not properly "sterilized" and that it might not be the best option for young babies. I would even use good quality bottled water in need, maybe Evian, Vittel, Volvic...It'll prob be too big a hassle to carry a thermos and they might look at it more strangely at security, never tried so can't speak from experience.

Here is the link [url=http://sleepinrollers.com/'>link[/url'>. I got mine at Sisters as well and thought that I would sleep blissfully at night and wake up in the morning looking like a glamazon! (hopefully 10kgs lighter as well, it doesnt hurt to dream) But alas, I woke up looking like i had been in a cat fight and was duly feral after an extremely restless night and DH nearly had his head bitten off at the ankles. Even the fur baby had a look of disgust at my sore and sorry state. Whilst my hair looked fab and volumous (which is exactly like my backside), I was exhausted! On the flip side, there is one that comes with a hairdryer thingie to "set" the do and I use this now, better as DH gets to giggle (yes like a girl) as I look like a, and i quote him, "my granny on a bad day"! love it little one! but I wasn't sure if your backside looks fab or voluminous or both;-) I usually feel my hair looks like I've been in a fight when I wake up....other than having my very own personal hairdesser ready to fix my hair at 6:30 am and in 5 mins flat, I'm afraid I'll be sporting the "sleek ponytail" look indefinately (or until DD is 20 yrs old and I'm a retired old lady).

Hello ladies, apologies if this has already been addressed but I recently discovered many useful Dubai apps for my iphone (and presumably they would be available for Android phones too?) For instance, RTA Dubai, you can find info on public transport, pay for public parking, book taxis, etc. For paying for parking it says that if you don't have Dubai number plates you need to register first, for that purpose you could use the mParking app or perhaps you could also do it through the RTA app. iDubai is another good app though IMO the info is not complete but hopefully they'll improve it soon, these are all free on the iPhone and goverenment managed; better avoid the loads of paid one by individual developers unless you know from another user that they work well.

Saline drops soften the mucus that is in the nose but don't reach further; if your nose is blocked you could try one of the seawater sprays (Tonimer, Sinomarine, etc) they tend to reach higher up the nasal passages. Ger ready to become an expert on the topic btw, once your LO is around and starts getting sick his/her blocked nose will be driving you nuts! Did you know kids can't blow their noses till about 4 yrs of age? One of these things that had never crossed my mind prior to having a baby.....

What a lovely thread! DD is 9 months old and she smiles to everybody she makes eye contact with; I can see how much everybody loves it and how genuinely they return the smile:-) Other than her nursery manager that is...that woman must have a cold cold heart!!! But no matter, many other lovely people out there making up for her.

In terms of getting there the easiest and fastest thing to do is fly; there are also high speed ferries but you'd have to go from the airport to the port which is quite far away and then the ferry ride would still be about 3-4 hrs I believe whereas the flight is about 30-40 mins. Santorini is not a family frindly island in my opinion though, if you have young kids you should consider other options (this is for TDB since she mentioned her LO). In terms of where to stay Trigg Beach, I haven't been in many years but from what I recall if you want to walk to shops/restaurants your options would basically be Fira or Oia. Fira being the capital and more busy/touristic, Oia being a bit more classy if I could use that term. Bear in mind though that neither is on the beach and assuming you want to get around the insland and visit different beaches you would need to rent a car/bike as public transportation gets too busy and unpredictable.

If she's FF then no need to stress much about iron; my understanding is that it is easier for FF babies to get their iron from milk vs BF ones since the formula has the recommended iron added. And if she's using stage 2 milk it has a higher iron content than stage 1 because babies do need more iron as they grow.

Hi Water Baby, Why are you considering buying one to begin with? I also got the motorola monitor and decided against those with sensor pads etc because from my research I found that they often give false alarms and panicking in the middle of the night about my baby breathing did not seem healthy to me. As long your baby sleeps in a safe environment and in your bedroom until he/she is I'd say about 6 months old you should have nothing to worry about. SIDS is extremely rare as it is, and there is no clear explanation of what might cause it (other than an unsafe environment of course, if the baby gets stuck between the mattress and the bed frame or an adults rolls over it while sleeping etc then the cause is quite obvious), so I'd say don't worry about it unecessarily. Btw, the simpler the sleeping arrangement, the better, these cots/moses baskets, bumpers etc we use can be quite risky for a young baby with no neck control. I read an interesting article about babies in Finland sleeping in cardboard boxes with a mattress at the bottom of course; to be honest it's super safe if you think about it and it is considered one of the reasons the country's infant mortality rate is close to zero (from about 20% in the '60s). Here it is if you're interested: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22751415

I would personally choose to give Hep A here as the water quality in the region can be questionable at times and this may be the easiest way for a baby/toddler to get sick, as well as by poorly washed fruit and veg. However I can't comment on the timing for the vaccine, I suppose since if it's not on the mandatory schedule you could do it whenever your Dr recommends or whenever you feel is a good time. I had Hep A as a teenager and had to spend 2 weeks in the hospital, would rather my kids avoid that:-)

Unless there is some other reason why the Dr prescribed Multivit, it is odd for an otherwise healthy baby, probably a good idea to ask the Dr to explain why and if not convinced try a different Dr. DD was formula fed from 3 months and the Dr told me that as long as she was having 1lt of milk a day she didn't need Vit D, however generally they do recommed Vit D to ensure there is enough in their diets so they will not risk having fragile bones and possibly break/fracture once they start walking and falling down.

Haven't had to resort to pain relief for teething yet but I suppose it may happen soon. I'd say don't worry about giving pain medication when needed, I asked a few Drs and though so far I've only used Panadol a few times when DD had high fever they told me that hypothetically speaking even if you had to give it everyday for a long period of time it would not harm the child. So I'd say if your baby is sufferring and can't sleep give it, if it goes on for more than a few days though perhaps you should check if there is some other reason for the discomfort, just in case?

Good point! i will certainly try switching back and see what happens! All my friends keep recommending the farley biscuits - but dont they have alot of sugar in them? Hi Mols, at a time when I was a bit desperate for DD to have ANY solids I did give her Milupa buscuits and I also tried Farley's. Luckily she wasn't a big fan and with hindsight I'm glad this was the case because they are quite sweet and in any case getting used to eating biscuits from this age is not something I'm in favor of. DD started solids just before she was 5 months, enjoyed for about 10 days and then almost entirely stopped for a month. She's now eating very well, practically everything I make for her and I am avoiding ready made cereals, biscuits, meals etc. A lot of fresh fruits, home cooked meals and yogurt along with her milk make up her diet. If you're going through a difficult phase it may be worth waiting for a while to see what happens (not about the constipation, about your baby's diet!) rather that do what I did and risk developing bad habits:-)

You could go back to the from birth formula, it's easier for them to digest and more similar to breastmilk, follow ons are allowed to use cheaper ingredients and are more similar to regular cows milk, there is actually no reason to switch to a follow on and many drs advise against them. kiwispiers, that is interesting... do you have any insight into whats the difference between 2 and 3... aptamil's official website suggests aptamil 3 for 6 month onwards... no mention of aptamil 2....DD has had no issues with taking on aptamil 2, although i only did notice that the powder itself is of much less finer quality than aptamil 1. when asked , her doctor said its fine to move to aptamil 2 , but can stay on 1 if she has problems with it Not specifically sorry, basically there are stricter rules regarding from birth formulas both in regards to ingredients and marketing, the main reason follow ons were invented is because since they are strictly speaking not formula they are allowed to be advertised in places where formula advertising is banned. If you think about it, breastfeeding is recommended for two years and cows milk is not better fir your baby than breastmilk at 12 months, it's just an option. Here is a good explanation http://www.askdrsears.com/topics/feeding-infants-toddlers/bottle-feeding/follow-formulas I did a bit of research on this before switching DD at 7 months and if you look at the ingredients you will notice that although not dramatically different from stage 1, stage 2 milk does contain more protein, iron, calcium etc (as also mentioned in the website Kiwispiers attached). As babies grow older they do need more of these nutrients and to me this was a good reason to switch. Whether they could get the same from cow's milk or some other type of follow on milk I do not know so can't comment....

I don't think you should drive defensively, there are enough idiots on the road doing that already. Just drive normally but be more aware of who is around you and don't expect them to make a logical movement. LOL If you are not ready to drive and not confident then either get a driver to drive you or Limo company pick up rather than a taxi, or a neighbour/spouse/friend. Nervous drivers can make the roads even more dangerous. Sorry Lolacat but what do you think "defensive driving" means? The aim of defensive driving is to reduce the risk of collision by anticipating dangerous situations, despite adverse conditions or the mistakes of others. Hence, exactly what we have all recommended.

Depends which company website you are using when you check for milk, bear in mind most that come up are usually UK or Oz but the products we buy here in the supermarkets may be a range produced and marketed for a different country, hence differences in packages, names etc. DD is almost 9 months and I also use Aptamil 2, my understanding from looking at the boxes is that Aptamil 3 (or Aptajunior as is branded now) is for 12 months plus. Duphalac is not a "medicine" so I wouldn't worry about giving it in the sense that you are giving medicines to your LO, however I also resisted that; I always cook her lunch with olive oil, usually one teaspoon, not sure if that helps. Most fruits we tend to give babies can actually cause constipation (apples, bananas...), the trick is to have more fluids but as at this age they seem to be resisting that an alternative is tro increase the fibre content in their diets. That's why prunes are good for constipation, not because it is fruit but because it is high in fibre. I also add a couple of prunes (the pitted soft ones that come in a bag, can't recall the brand) in the fruit I prepare for her in the morning. And if she seems to be having a hard time I switch to prune juice mixed with water instead or plain water, I use one that has no added sugar and I do 2 parts water 1 part juice. I am told that by 10 months they are happy drinking water and I'm noticing now the weather is getting hotter DD is more willing to have it so there's hope! Well, I would personally take this with a grain of salt...who knows what "statistic" this is...maybe the gentleman was overdramatizing. Not that it's not an issue, it probably is, but I seriously doubt it is 80% as stated. I never believe local "stratistics" in any area of life/business and I do not trust local newspapers:-) Fair do's. But in fact, it was a woman who quoted the 80% statistic, and while the article didn't reference the stat', one would hope that this writer/marriage counsellor had sourced this figure from something more official than 'word-of-mouth'. One hopes so anyway. ;) You are correct LadyBee, if we assume Mrs Ahmad is the CEO, which is possible, but then agaion with the poor writing skills of most "journalists" here one can never be certain!

80%? I highly doubt it. The surveys they do here are not done properly anyways. Been living in Dubai for 13+years and none of my friends/acquaintances have divorced so far. I'm sure the divorce percentage is a big number since it is a transitional expat community but I think 80% is way overrated. Asti I believe they are referring to Emirati marriages, but still, as I said, I do not trust these back of envelope statistics.

As others have said, protect your family, change your locks and cancel her visa. In fact if it were me and I caught my maid mistreating my child I would ban her, I would find a way to do it so that she could not harm other families and especially other children. I've had a bumpy ride adjusting to life with a maid as I had never had one before and it is highly uncommon to have a maid where I come from, and she did walk all over me at first but then I changed my approach and things got better. I will know how to be firm and very clear with expectations from day one next time I hire one-you should not compromise and you should def not feel like you're working for them.

I used to see the Techno all the time at Mothercare Dubai Mall but last time I checked was prob a couple of months ago so I guess it may be out of stock? If you are planning to use it as a second stroller for travel I personally think it's not worth spending the money on McLaren. I have a Quinny Buzz and bought a Silver Cross instead of the McLaren for 40% less and there are also cheaper options, maybe Chicco, Mothercare and other brands. Not familiar with the YoYo so can't comment. I must say though that as DD is growing I am think that in 5-6 months the Quinny may not be a practical option anymore and that later on when kids are 2 or 3 yearls old it is in fact easier using an umbrella stroller as they can sit in it and get out of it themselves etc-just some food for thought:-)

Hi Sassy, The most imprortant thing is your safety, so drive defensively and always be alert. Since you do have driving experience, it sounds like this is purely a psychological "block" if I may call it that and it is totally understandable but also easier to deal with, hopefully. I would suggest that as you have already done, you always plan your routes before you leave the house so that you feel more confident, try to avoid major highways if possible at first and stay on the right lane/lanes at a reasonable speed until you build up your confidence. If possible, avoid driving during the commute hours, that's when people can be the most aggressive. You'll be totally fine, to be honest the biggest thing that I had to learn here was to be super alert always because that is the only way you can effectively deal with bad drivers on the road and as an experienced driver you'll master that in no time!!!

Hi Marian, I'd say it depends where you're going in the US, where you will be staying, if you will be driving and finally if your toddler is used to anything in particular here that he/she can't do without in case it might be worth checking availability there. I say this because while Asti is correct that you can find pretty much anything there and at much better prices, if for instance you are going to a city with poor public transportation and will not be driving, it will be hard accessing those places, especially the Wallmarts and Targets as they are not usually located in the center of the city/toursit areas. Also, if say your toddler has to have some type of food or medicine, check if it's available there and in the case of medicine if it's over the counter or whether you might need a prescription.

I'm not sure which law this is that you are referring to, I do hope it exists, but even if it does, what makes anybody think it is even worth the paper it's written on (sort of speak) in a country where to move a finger you need to provide copies of passports, birth certificates, marriage certificates, tenancy contracts and so on to a bunch of random people who have never even hear the term "privacy" before, let alone understand it.... I understand both sides but also agree it's a cultural thing. I was concerned when I saw our nanny taking pics of and with my DD with her phone but DH assured me there was nothing to worry about (he's lived in DXB for many many years). DD fits the blond blue eyed description which may at times make her a more attractive photo subject to certain nationalities, but in any case, the nanny just wanted to share photos with her family in the Philippines and when she did go on leave and came back all members of her family had sent little gifts for DD which was very sweet. I do agree however that in a public setting I would not approve of strangers taking photos of my child without asking me first. And at the end of the day a mother's feeling or intuition about a situation is something that cannot be conveyed in a post on this board. Let's just consider the concern GB expressed and move on:-)

I agree with simpleasabc - if the insurance company was not prepared to do this, they would include pre-existing condition questionnaires for all who avail of their health scheme. If they are not asking for those details, how is it unethical? Also, as the OP noted below, they will not even claim on the insurance cover while on the group scheme which is 3 years. So how is this unethical??? Apart from the fact that this could change and even SAVE someone's life! Where would your ethics stand on that one, Splinters? If you had the chance to save someone's life, would you refuse on the grounds of what you consider ethical? edited by Mmmmmm on 19/05/2013 I believe the OP stated they would NOT take custody of the insurance card, hence the level of comfort to the company about the no claims statement. Good luck in getting things sorted OP, hope something will work out. Pretty big assumption that some random person from a random internet chat board would not claim on an insurance cover that they'd been given while they have admitted they have a serious illness for three years. You all are a lot more trusting than I've ever been!

Quite hard to find, your best bet might be ordering online. Having said that, Just Kidding and Bumblebee sometimes have them but their stock is a bit random. FYI, you can usually fit other parasols onto a Quinny, doesn't have to be the same brand. I recently got a Bugaboo parasol for my Quinny Buzz because they only had a black Quinny parasol in stock but they didn't have the attachment you need to put on the stroller. I think the iCandy parasol might fit too. Go to Just kidding and have them try different ones onto a Quinny stroller to see what works. I went to the one in the Gold and Diamond Park and they tried diiferent ones for me on one of their Quinny strollers in store.

As others have said, the closest residential areas are Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), Falcon City/Villa/Arabian Ranches but out of those to my knowledge only DSO has apartments. In fact most apartments face Academic City, you'll prob be 5 mins from school and for your husband with easy access to what used to be Emirates Rd (E311 on maps) but is now Mohamed Bin Zayed Rd it would prob take 30 mins to Jebel Ali. Bear in mind that's driving at speed limit, if slower/faster adjust accordingly:-) Another area with apartments that would be half way between Academic City and Jebel Ali is Motorcity, you'd prob drive 15 mins to Academic City and 15-20 mins to Jebel Ali. However, if I'm not mistaken prices have gone up significantly in Motorcity over the past 6 months so DSO may be a better bet for you. It's a very nice community, I live in a villa, so not too familiar with the apartments, but we have friends who do live in apartments and they love it. There are many buildings so I'm sure there are varying degrees of quality/facilities, you'll have to go and look around. Good luck!

Hi DB, u can pick up from the DIFC or Silicon Oasis, let me know what's easier for you and will exchange details. No worries about giving something back, i just would hate for that stuff to go to waste.

Hi ladies, I have one tin of NAN AR and one tin of S26 1 new that we never used and I'd be happy to give those to anybody who needs them. Also a couple of packs of Gaviscon infant (the powder sachets).

I actually asked the Dr last time we went for a visit, and the Dr said as long there's no fever and the baby is in good spirits it's fine to go in the pool. It's true that the water is a bit cold, I take DD on Friday mornings at 8:30 and last week in particular when the outside temp was 23C or something it felt a bit chilly. She didn't seem to mind though...

You can have endless debate on that one....My Dr had told me that as long as I didn't have any head injuries/open wounds etc, basically a way for the chemicals to be absorbed into the blood stream that otherwise there is no risk. However, being a first time mom and concerned about so many things I decided to wait for the first trimester to end before doing anything. If it's purely cosmetic perhaps you could skip it (unless it makes you feel better about yourself, your good psychology is IMO more improtant to safeguard), in my case I have so many whites that I was looking ridiculous after 3 months of no touch ups!
