Just logically is it possible to sack and ban a qualified teacher that easily, also in a very short time frame, over xmas and New year? I have been thinking that ever since that information was posted - something about the sequence of the posts in relation to inquiries from other posters has struck me as contrived. I know I could be wrong but it is just my gut feeling about the whole thing and no doubt I will be flamed for voicing it. I'll join you in being flamed as I am also thinking this may just be a cruel hoax, from someone who was bored. These posts bring out the best and worst in people, but it may also have brought back hurtful memories for others. If you look back on the thread I was questioned as to how I knew something, it was my response then that it had happened to me, from my personal experience I would have never placed anything on a public forum about what had happened and some of my closest friends didnt know, however people act and seek comfort in different ways, but the last couple of updates didnt ring true - I deal with the labour and immigration on a daily basis and the way it was portrayed did not come over as realistic. Very sad in either case.

Whilst there may be some seriously bored and malicious people out there who do post fictitious dramas on forums, it is quite wrong to assume that others do not post when in genuine distress, A forum such as EW gives a valuable platform to vent and to express feelings in a relatively safe and anonymous way, as they say, a problem shared is a problem halved, sometimes just verbalising gives clarity, and of course on here there is access to a wide range of others' experiences. But mostly, just the act of sharing can give comfort, some of you posters from the "old days" may recall the night a lady posted in anguish that her DD had just dropped down dead. It was the middle of the night, the rest of the family were attempting to get some sleep and she needed to talk to someone. It was not a hoax. It is a dangerous assumption to make in this case, and personally I would rather risk being gullible than causing unnecessary pain to someone already suffering. I don't need to make myself feel that clever. Valid point !

Yes you do need an agency the only way around this that I know is that you she can come on a visit visa and you can convert it. - my SIL just did this.

I dont believe a single word of the whole story. How did you read my mind :) I really hope that this isnt a wind up but to be honest the way the thread has been updated and written does not seem logical or in sequence ! the last post from the OP really did throw more doubt in my mind. Sorry firing squad at the ready

It also depends on nationality of employer, I think - expectations differ considerably. I give my maid one day a week off although she rarely takes it. I do provide all her personal requirements, health insurance etc - this is usual. I expect my maid up in the morning to prepare breakfast etc for morning school run and finish up after dinner is over and everything organised. I think the current thinking, especially in Dubai, is that westerners are better employers - they pay higher salaries, expect less, are less abusive etc, and give more time off. Really ??????????? how racist is your post !

Thank you so much ladies I truly appreciate all your advice I just tried to be nice to her but yes she did take advantage it feels bad when u try to be good but all that comes back is this...I have not processed her visa yet DH suggested we do it after a month but it's getting worse feels like it's better off without a maid...I just talked to her very nicely told her I am going to get her supplies for a month and you will cook ur own food from now on and her comment is" no mam I don't have time" I was like what really I have not yet asked u to cook for the whole family I am speaking about cooking your own food She is like I don't have time to cook my food I said I am already doing a lot of things for you which I don't have to...after sometime I asked her to cook her lunch and she says I don't want lunch I said fine but u will have to go without food if you can't cook I am not doing it for you anymore...and then she goes inside makes her own food...wen she told me she didn't know how to cook...we'll I have called the agency they asked me to try to speak to her and if she is still not making an effort they will change her they also told me I only need to pay her 100 aed a month for allowance food, shampoo, soap, etc and the lady at the agency was a filipina too...I was like only 100aed I was planning a lot more she said it's more than enough with her current salary...and that it is enough to keep them happy compared to their situations back home. All cleaning is done by 11 in the morning after which she just takes care of my baby and wen he sleeps she is in her room still she doesn't have time to cook her own food...hmmm. ...my only issue is finding a Muslim maid who speaks English... My maid isnt musim and we are a musim family I dont see the issue.

For me this is not normal behaviour and to be honest I have to agree with the other ladies that she is taking advantage. Her contract says food and accomodation to be supplied, it does not say that she has a free reign of spinneys to do what she likes. Our helper comes shopping with me and always asks if I mind buying her items, she does not take it for gramted, I think that she has come from a home where she had nothing before and now she feels all her christmas's have come at once. I would sit her down and explain the rules, if she doesnt like it you have a 3 month return time from the agency to return her.

Sorry I have 2 thoughts process's on this one 1) That there was something going on and your DH has got cold feet and he has ended it and now she is telling you out spite. 2) She tried to hit on him and he had declined and again she is doing it out of spite. The reason behind my thoughts is that if the lady at the nursery was so uncomfortable would she not have mentioned this to her superiors ? it doesnt make sense to me Birchy, how were you able to spot what was going on?? Been there done it and got the tshirt !! not only with me but with one of my close friends, but I have to say the more I read the thread its not making sense to me anymore !!

thank you all. is there anyway I can get the school to take disciplinary action against her? I don't want to change my child's school as they are quite happy but I want her out. I would do the same as she has done to you, go to her in a quiet and calm way, show her all the messages, give her the option to resign otherwise you will inform the school of her actions, if you inform the school please be prepared for this to go legal, they may wish to inform the police of the "affair" this could result in all of you loosing your livelyhood here. I sure as **** would not let her get away with it !

If you are going to confront him i would do so in a way that made him really think, like go home and say ohhh by the way XYZ from the nursery apologised for not being able to make it to our coffee date the other day, I take it you were busy huni and forgot to tell me. Dont give away all your sources, I would them be checking everything just for my own piece of mind, its better to cook something slowly rather than rush it and burn it.

I had to do this, also. My name was written as Amy Dad Papa Family. I am not surprised they would make it 10 years. The UAE nationality is very lucrative, and getting more so. UAE Nationals are taken such good care of. And if Sheikh Mohammed's vision for super Dubai comes into fruition, which I think the world leaders are starting to believe it will, then this passport, held by very few people, is going to be even more valuable. And I can see him giving his people even more to make sure they are taken care of well enough to not just sutrvive in the new Dubai, but triumph in it. Thanks for that Amy!I don't mind waiting at all. I hadn't even planned on applying but my husband informed me that if I don't and even after 20 years if anything happens to him i will have to be sponsored by my kids every 3 years with the same visa i have now! seriously awkward! Mine is also the same as Amy ! There was a new rule I think passed where the waiting time is less if you have children, it is also dependant on your nationality also. Be prepared for a long drawn out process it isnt easy to be honest, I also agree that the time limit isnt that bad at the end of the day you marry the man not the passport :) Wish you all the best with the process xx

So? What happened? Sorry I've not been on, been a very frustrating few days on this. Tried to call Alan (from Birchy, thank you!) but his phone's been switched off. Also tried another contact that my maid knows, also no answer. Will continue to try the embassy by my mother in law is in town so a bit tricky. Meanwhile, the maid has been told that she cannot leave the house if she doesn't agree to stay another two months, until the new hire comes. I don't believe that the madam will actually let her go in two months, but until I get a hold of someone who can rock up to her place and remove her, there's not much I can do. She said they will pay her overstay fines, but I think they will coerce her into signing another contract, as they've done in the past. She just told me yesterday that she agreed to the two months, and it really had me down all day. It's so frustrating being in a place where my hands are tied. The woman told her that she can't leave, that she will put pictures of her all over the Dubai airport, that she will ban her, lies lies lies but she doesn't get to leave the house or talk on the phone so she believes it. Heavy sigh. The one thing that gets me down more than anything, especially into my middle age years, is unkindness of any sort, towards people and animals. Will keep you all posted and thank so much for the advice and concern. Ok you can try to call Marianna 050 5106170 But in my opinion if they have requested for another maid to come it is normal for the family to ask the current maid to stay until she arrives. Nobody has the authority to rock up at the house and remove her, the consulate cannot even do this.

WE live in Sharjah so Dubai school are a bit far. However I would not mind driving them as I work in Dubai. But I will also have to look at what the fees are like. Starting in a new school is very expensive and My husband just started a new project. Doubting Thomas - no new job for him. He is dong something on his own which I hope pans out better than his job did. Try Al Mawahib British Private School in Sharjah, they are excellent and dont judge you http://www.almawahibschool.com/ edited by Birchy on 09/12/2013

I've given my daughter strategies to get out of games she doesn't feel good about and that includes going to the either Mum. Both our houses have open door policies when playing (now). And at even the slightest whiff of anything inappropriate, the game gets shut down and moved on. I don't think my lil miss really has a clue about it all, just knows she doesn't like it. Nudity in our house is a natural thing so while bums are funny theres really nothing sinister about them, if that makes sense? Currently the other parents are treating the lying and sneaking and stealing as bad behavior and they're very strict disciplinarians, my worry is if it's a cry for help because something has happened? Then understanding that would change their approach and help them get the help they need for the girl? All of the behaviour that you have mentioned would raise a red flag to me and there is no way that I would allow my daughter to have any kind of relationship with the other child, I would also raise the behaviour with the school, god forbid that there is anything untoward happening in the home of the child you can sleep at night knowing that you have informed the relevant people. If I had a good relationship witht he mother I would also be raising it with her. If we were in the UK I would report to the authorities, here you can but its not easy, I would hate to think that should anything later on be discovered that the mother could aportion blame to you by saying that she was playing with your daughter. Please take care of your little one.

It is possible to sponsor a child if you are a single parent, you need to attend the immigration and ask to speak to the Major who deals with Humanitarian cases. They will review the case and in most of the cases that I have know they approve the sponsorship but she will need to go in person with the daughter and all of the legal documentation to prove that she has sole custody.

This happened at the gas station on the E311 (Old Emirates Road) immediately after the Arabian Ranches main entrance yesterday at approx 1.50pm. I am guessing the driver lives in AR and was on her way to do a school pick up. I will be able to look around AR myself, but if anyone knows a white female who drives a white Volvo 4x4 Reg - H**421, please tell her it looks like I have no alternative but to involve the police. I am happy to discuss privately if she wishes. Many thanks. edited by Sue R on 21/10/2013 Holy Cr8p if that was me and I had not realised that I had damaged a car I would be filing a case against you for posting my personal details on a website. There are a couple of things that you can do : 1) Go to the ministry of Labour in Al Ghusais and show them the resignation letter or termination letter along with the ticket, they will call the authorised signatory to come and release you immediatley. I would however recommend that if you wish to do this go as early as possible as I was just there and it is very busy. 2) Proceed to the airport as normal as if your visa and Labour card are still valid you will have no issues in travelling at all. I would recommend that you inform your employers that if they do not cancel the visa and you have left the counrty they will have their immigration file blocked and they will receive a fine for non cancellation.

I would avoid Ajman GMC at all costs ! there reputation is very bad - Latifa hospitals and other government hospitals in Dubai are much better albeit a little more expensive. Hi Birchy, thanks for your feedback on GMC Ajman , but can you please explain where did you get or heard about their bad reputation. I am personally concidering it it for delivery , same as Immame, and heard just good reviews (not very many tho as hard to find people on forums who has experinced it) and prices are very acceptable , they have NICU and good care ... but I would like to hear why and where bad reputation is coming from as at the end of the day need to concider all but the best for the baby.thanks Birchy , looking fwd to your reply .... edited by Leodavid84 on 12/09/2013 Hi there so sorry have not logged in for a while and just saw this, I have had a personal bad experience with them as well as someone else that I know, the person who I will not name was due to deliver there and when complications showed they refused to admit her and we had to call all the hospitals in Dubai Sharjah and UAQ to help her. Also another factor is that there is major roadworks in place at the moment there and access is a nightmare. Am happy to discuss more but really dont want to put all the details on an open forum :) ETA : the hospital in UAQ is excellent and they have a SCBU - a little further but I would go there any day over GMC :) and I am speaking from first hand experience. edited by Birchy on 20/10/2013

A new rule was issued in the past month, where if you care is unregistered they will impund on the spot and your car has to stay in the police impound for 24 hours, having said that there is a 30 day grace period at the end of the registration to renew the car, if you are within this 30 days you are fine. I would not want to risk going over a border just in case.

I can see both sides of this ......... my DH is local and was against me giving the password, but we did, we sat with her and said just as I can use the internet at my place of work, it was not to be abused and that should her work suffer from over use then the password would be changed. In the 9 months that she has had the password I have never had any issues at all, it depends really on the maid and what her personality is.

The information that they are giving you is correct, you need to cancel the residency visa first then they will process your new employer residency visa. There is no need to exit the country as they will do an inter country amendment. Until your residency visa is received you will need to apply for a new emirates id and undergo a medical, it the HR is any good this will not take more than a week, in that time you are legal as you have permission from the MOL to work and your are under process in the sytem.

There is a 30 days grace period for renewal of registration, even if the car is not registered but insured there will only be a small fine and the registration will be back dated to the day it was due. The company should fix the car as long as there is a valid insurance policy on the car and if you wish to renew the car before you have the accident damage done just make sure that the report is in the car when you take it for the passing. Dont worry you should be just fine.

Keep in mind,if you buy a house here you only own the house itself. The land the house is built on you can never own... When were you last able to confirm that as a fact? As an expat you can only buy in Umm Sequim through a long term lease agreement with the landlord and he can break that at any time, non UAE or non GCC nationals are only permitted to pirchase properties in designated areas, I confirmed this on Wednesday.
