Does anybody know of a cheap place to get translation done? Were told the court cant do it and we need somewhere quick and nearby. I called a few offices who said it would take a day to do but thats no good. I wonder if anyone knows.. inside the immigration and the court there are translation offices, even in the RTA there is also one inside the DWTC next to loop cafe :)

Fingers, toes and knees crossed for you. Do let us know how it goes. I'm afraid it's probably too short notice for you, but it looks as if I will be going to London tomorrow on Qatar Airways, so if it came to it and you needed someone to help you in flight, I'd be happy to do so. edited by simpleasabc on 27/05/2012 Well that is kind and a good solution. Even though it changes in Doha, her husband could fly to Doha with her....I am sure she would be less stressed if accompanied. Thanks simpleasabc thats really very kind of you! But I would need to get confirmation that I can fly and because of my rib condition it would have to be a direct business flight. UPDATE: Head of marriage has said to go to typing centre and get an appointment with a judge. Apparently something can be done. DH is now starting up the case. The local PRO has gone to Baraha Hospital with our marriage certificate to find out through his contacts if he can get all the formalities done to obtain a BC. We'll get an update on that by this evening. PLEASE pray for us/keep fingers crossed or whatever you do for well wishing! [color=#CC3300'>EXCELLENT XXX fingers crossed [/color'>

I spoke to the head of the marriage section at Dubai courts and he was very helpful, he suggests the following 1 go to the court anyway between 8 and 3 pm or 4 and 9pm 2 report to the marriage section 3 take with you your passports and copies including visa page 4 marriage certificate from the mosque in the uk and a photocopy 5 he also recommended you take 4 passport pictures with you 6 if you have a maid on your husbands visa also take her passport and a copy He was sure that it can be resolved at the court. Hope that helps

To make my story short and simple I've bullet pointed it. 1. Me and DH are both British Muslims. We were married in UK via Muslim marriage ceremony (nikkah) 24th July 2011. We didnt have Civil Ceremony because DH's work didnt allow him off enough time to provide notice etc 2. This is a Muslim marriage certificate and cannot be attested in UK as UK is not a Muslim country of course 3. We came to Dubai and successfully obtained spouse visa for me with our marriage certificate 4. I got pregnant in December 2011 (currently 26 weeks pregnant) and Medcare Hospital also had no problems with our marriage certificate 5. We are now having problems when speaking to MOFO and MOH who have both rejected our marriage certificate which means we will not be able to obtain our sons birth certificate or passport in August. Very distressed and no idea what to do. I'm really looking for some helpful advise please. Hugsy, if your husbands initals are MK, please do not worry, i am looking into this for you as we speak and I have some good news. If it is not let me know as I have a case that is the same and we have found a soloution. Regards

Hi there, they took 7 eggs and today they called and said that 5 have fertilized, i am waiting now for them to tell me if they will implant on Friday or Sunday. The staff were AMAZING, however I am a little sore this morning and yesterday was horrible, but I am sure it will be worth it in the long run.

Thanks so much ladies! We are seeing Dr Fakih next week. We are not prudish about what we reveal at all but we are also very aware of the sensitivities of living here in UAE where some subjects are taboo. What nationality is Dr Fakih I wonder? I am apprehensive about IVF as I am not sure it can/ will work and the financial costs etc and am keen to adopt but my DH will not consider adoption and is willing to try. Trips terrify me :-) too He has an american passport but his origins are arab :) These questions will not be asked by the Dr they are asked by his nurse :)

I have a child from a previous relationship and to be honest I am sure that they have heard it all before, just out of interest where are you going as I think it is very important that you feel comfortable with the Dr, I had the added issue that Dh is a national and normally they like to keep this stuff "in the house" so too speak, but the first Dr we went to we were not comfortable so we looked for another Dr and the second was was amazing.

I think we are going far beyond the basic discussion here and I would hate for anyone to be offended and i think some people may mis read what someone is trying to put in writing. I think all of us agree that modesty is a personal thing however given that this is a ISLAMIC country and the basics in Islam is that the woman should be covered I think people are requesting that visitors or residents meet them half way and show a little bit of respect for the religion of the land and the culture of the people. No one as far as I can see is asking for all us ladies to cover in abaya, although it does have its advantages :) no bad hair day and PJs underneath but just to wear something that does not expose too much flesh. I will end my post with something that I love A person sees a nun and automaticly thinks of her purity, a person sees a woman in abaya or hijab and feels she is opressed. Mind set :)

please lets not get too far off topic, else this thread might be zapped. ;) The comments on the GN article are over 300 now (and all but a few want stricter dress code to be implemented). I think this year during Ramadan we may see some changes in the Malls, perhaps people being stopped and told to leave the mall, does anyone else think so. edited by Alismum on 15/05/2012 I don't think it will work with the current security force in malls now. Maybe locals can approach people dressed inappropriately and explain what is accepted and what isn't. Then ask them to cover up or leave the mall. There must be people there who have good communication skills that will be respected. I am sorry to say but the average guy from India will be ignored, as sad as it is:( I know someone who has tried that and it didnt work the expat lady was very very rude to her to say the least

defintion of modest: free from showiness or ostentation observing conventional proprieties in speech, behaviour and dress Having or proceeding from a disinclination to call attention to oneself Playing Devils advocate, is showing let's say the knees really 'calling attention to oneself'? I know some men have strange fetishes but who get's hot under the collar at a pair of knees? One of my fathers friends has never seen his wifes legs.....for real. But he has seen plenty of strangers legs. omani style :) :) :) :)

In plain simple terms modesty in Muslim countries = no skin showing "so -called" modern modesty in muslim countries = half sleeves and skirts below the knees i tend to agree with this point, just because i cover does not mean that I judge everyone by what they wear but it does come to a point where you just stand with your chin on the floor at some of the clothese that both expats and some nationals wear ! Modesty is something that will have to be set by the government IF this takes off, i have a personal feeling that it wont, unless they enforce it only in public places i.e the mall, even then i think that the kick back they will get will be harsh.

just for information if you wish to open a nursery the bank guarentee and insurances amount to about 1 million aed. That is incorrect. I have 2 nurseries. that was the information that I was given, are you based in Dubai or another Emirate ? Dubai maybe the information and regulations are different for each emirate :( nothing would shock me anymore

IMO they are a) unaware of how culturally insensitive they are being and b) don't care enough anyway. And the problem is compounded further by the fact that most people here don't spend time with Emiratis to understand their culture, what they find acceptable behaviour by us Expats etc. Everyone coming here should be made to attend a cultural awareness course! It should be part of the whole residence process. All well and good, BM, but how do you get to know Emiratis? I'd really love to get to know locals and be culturally aware, but given that I believe they only represent 6 per cent of Dubai's population, how is that likely to happen? I am happy to meet you for lunch with DH if you would like to meet one and find out a little bit more information :) Oh, thank you, how kind, that would be great. I know my husband would be interested, too, if that would be all right with you?. Could you email me on simpleasanniebc at gmail dot com when you have a mo so we can arrange it? (Wanders off to make a list of things I want to "ask an Emirati" :) ) you have mail :)

yesterday i spoke to my DHs family about this and it doesnt come down to jealously it is just modesty, the UAE nationals do not want it to be like Saudi they just want soem respect for their religion and culture, they made an interesting point also that this dress code should also apply to the UAE Nationals, very often you seen in the malls the girls who are not wearing the abaya correctly and this also falls under the catergory of the dress code. Nobody wants a country that is totally enclosed like saudi I think they are just looking for a little bit more respect than has been shown by a minority.

Whilst I fully support the UAE dress code drive, the problem is the way Dubai and indeed the UAE markets iteself. When you see celebs half naked, frolicking on the beaches, Ibiza style adverts etc - is it any wonder that there is major confusion? Yes, I agree that people should educate themselves about where they are going and I cannot stand seeing nearly nude people in the malls etc - there's a time and a place. well said **claps**

Its good to read a thread like this and Felix was good to read your experience with the transfer, can I ask how much your treatment totalled in Dhs? My DH and I are very lucky to have concieved a beautiful son following a successful Vasectomy reversal. My son is 1.5 yrs old and we decided to have a sibling for him. We have been trying since August 2011 with no luck. My DH had a SA yesterday and his very low count has decreased to 4million per ml and zero motility. We are both devastated to say the least. When we were trying for our son we were told that we would need IVF treatment and went to see Dr Fakih. I didn't know during our initial consultation that we were already 2 weeks pregnant! Dr Fakih was very to the point and 1 minute from meeting him he said we needed IVF. My DH didn't like the feel of the clinic and to be honest I didn't take to Dr Fakih at all so we went away feeling like there was no hope. I am now faced with the desicion of whether to go ahead with IVF or not so reading this thread has been very helpful. I don't work but I do look after my son full time and obviously would have to make some childcare arrangements for my visits to the clinic. Its a lot to think about! I never thought this would happen to us but at least we have been blessed with our son :) Good luck everyone We had the same feelings, if you read my other post on a second opinion we were really put off by Dr F to be honest :(, but as I have said before it is a very personal thing and what may work for one couple may not work for the other. It would seem that our opinions are very much the same and I would recommend having a consultation with Dr Wael @ DGFC we loved him and are moving forward..

My hubby is local and I wear the local dress and we often meet our European friends in the mall and we kiss them on the cheek, there has never been any issues with this at all. Its also worth noting that i hold my hubbys hand all the time and we have never ever been questioned, he has also greeted my parents at the airports with a huge hug and kiss.

Favourite foods would have to be Italian (anything; pasta, fish, meat) and Sri Lankan curries. However, as you will have 'locals' at the event you will have to ensure that dishes contain nothing that contain alcohol or pork (or as I picked up in another recent thread about frogs' legs, anything which lives in two worlds which could also include crab as they also live in and above water as do frogs). There is a debate about seafood being halal or not; and this depends on what school you follow - most Muslims in the UAE believe that all food from the sea is halal unless it has been specified as being Harram as have turtles and frogs. Probably best not to jump to conclusions with regarding to what is halal / harram without doing some research. anything that comes from the sea is Halal - frogs legs are classed as Makroor ( ie not halal not haram) Moving on i have to say Iranian food is my fav
