Cream dory is wet and tasteless and I don't like the texture but good for making Asian fish cakes. Stopped buying cod as I bought some that was off and find it pretty tasteless here. Therefore I stick to salmon and tuna and red snapper for the BBQ or for steaming. Mackerel occasionally pan fried or BBQed. Very cheap and very healthy.

I had an open MRI done recently at Open MRI Clinic on Beach Road. http://openmridubai.com/about/about.php Ditto. I am extremely claustrophobic but can cope with this one. It's not a tunnel, it's completely open at the sides. Also, depending on where they are taking images from, your head might be slightly out. You can take a friend/ family in with you as a distraction. I just looked towards the door the whole time! I was supposed to go to city but I couldn't stay in, it was so close! No mirror nothing. <em>edited by Bird on 14/01/2014</em>

You could buy direct from the UK. Yes you will have to pay around £25 for shipping but places like skates.co.uk have a wonderful range. We ordered DS scooter from this company and it was well worth it. The only no name scooters we did see here (last Xmas) were stupidly priced, so we thought delivery costs with the good selection of scooters made it worth while. Thanks GC. He really wanted an MGP which they don't carry although I know the ones they carry are good brands but you know what kids are like! I don't think I'd get it before Xmas but I wrote to them to ask.

As mentioned previously on this thread the regulation part is difficult to enforce, take a walk anywhere where there are expats and you will see many who would maybe not be approved by some as regards what they are wearing. Are ladies who wear gym wear really that offensive or is it rather those who critic are just jealous of their fab bodies? [b'>How often do you see size challenged ladies wearing skin tight Lycra[/b'>? lol Is wearing a sleeveless but classy business dress really that offensive? It seems to be mainly ladies who complain about other ladies and the way they dress, never heard a man complain yet! edited by Lolacat on 25/09/2013 Every time I go to McDonalds in the UK !! lol No I don't like to see gym clothes and not because i'm jealous of the so-called fab bodies...I just think that, much as camels are part of the local scenery, I prefer not to have their toes shoved in my face, so to speak, when I take my child to school... !! Honestly, ladies who think they're showing off their "fab bodies" in tight bottoms should see themselves from the back !! lol Interesting analysis, today i had a better look but have to say i don't naturally walk round looking at other ladies backsides or other parts you mention. I do think some ladies can carry off certain dresses better than others and a good figure certainly helps that. Interesting that female and male PE staff in western schools wear shorts that are above the knee..........yet a parent can not? It's not so much about the shorts more about the style of shorts/dress isn't it? Of course the PE staff wear shorts it's part of their uniform. If a school wish to impose a dress code it's their right, it's their school, like it or not. It's all about appropriateness. Social standards have become worse. You only have to go the UK especially when the weather is good like this year, to see the state of society. The media, celebrities all play a big part on this. Just look at Miley Cyrus, Rihanna etc. what role models. Intrigued about which school is really bad though! <em>edited by Bird on 25/09/2013</em>

I don't see the connection between decent dress and the country we live in. I don't think it's normal for a mother to go and collect her kid dressed like a stripper or someone who is about to hit the clubs, in any country. You would expect women to have a sense of modesty regardless of where they are. It's in my eyes normal to dress properly, whether you're in UAE or UK. There is an appropriate time and place for every type of dress. Asking women to have knees and shoulders covered is not regulating dress code, telling people what to wear in order to enter a restaurant is. Why can people conform to that but not to something simple as modesty? With regards to banning niqab in public places. I don't agree with that. However, I do think women who wear them should be prepared to be asked to identify themselves when entering a public or govt building. I don't get why people are so occupied with the niqab, it is such a small percentage of women that wear it. It gets way too much attention. Like

It seems quite a recent thing that songs with dodgy lyrics are so mainstream. There is much much worse out there (Ice T's 99 Problems springs to mind) but in the past you'd have to specifically buy songs with such content, they wouldn't just be played on the radio. It works both ways, Rihanna's Rude Boy sexualised men in not a very flattering way. Maybe you're too young but a few of us will remember Frankie Goes to Hollywood, 'Relax', or 'White Lines' (can't remember who sang that)? 'My Ding a Ling' by Chuck Berry was a bit risque. And what about some of Duran Duran's videos? Oh and just about anything penned by Shaun Ryder. I don;t wish to impose my views on others, but personally Bruno Mars annoys me more than this stuff. Or Tom Jones / Alicia Keys on the basis they have recently played in Israel. White Lines-Grandmaster Melle Mel. Loved that song. Was warning against drugs.

http://thesocietypages.org/socimages/2013/09/17/from-the-mouths-of-rapists-the-lyrics-of-robin-thickes-blurred-lines-and-real-life-rape/ I think you'll find that Grobattie is right, it's not subjective at all. It has been banned on several university campuses for a reason. People are very quick to dismiss things like this saying it's not a big deal but it IS a big deal. It's what our children hear and it sinks in. And don't say well turn it off because kids will hear it and probably know about it before we do. I cringe when I hear my kids singing some of the lyrics out there. There is little censorship nowadays. It affects society in general. I actually really like the music in this song but after seeing Thicke and Thicker twerking(?) to it it leaves little to the imagination. OP maybe write to the station or on their Facebook page. Being opposed to this does not in anyway detract from what happened in Nairobi. So we're not allowed to be concerned unless someone died? Agree with you Tru Blu.

Sevenseconds please don't be too quick to think this, that or the other, far too many children are over diagnosed IMHO with all these sorts of issues when if fact they are just being children. The teacher can have a profound effect on the way a child performs and behaves in class. I have seen this over the years with my own children and dread each new year as to who we get, many teachers are very very average or at best dull. They plod through the curriculum and couldn't inspire a lettuce leaf let alone a bright 6 year old. Rather than having a problem it sounds from what you describe that your child may well be very bright (often confused by those who don't appreciate) and to be honest could just be bored stiff and not willing to conform to the monotonous boredom and slow pace of school. Great for her, this should be enhanced not squashed. I would be looking at having her iq tested and finding a school that appreciates and nurtures her rather than keeping in one that will destroy her. if you can look at foremarke school, the classes are very small and academically she will be challenged. I agree. My son has had notes passed from one year to the next and the new brilliant teacher couldn't believe it was the same child they were referring to. A lot of teachers like to pigeon hole kids and when they can't they call in the parents. Sometimes it can just be that the teacher needs to tweak his/her classroom management skills. Sit the child closer, maintain eye contact etc. sometimes you get a wishy washy teacher and they are useless and your child doesn't respond, just like adults! Eye Q omega fish oil supplements are fine and we gave them to our kids for a couple of years. There is nothing dangerous about them. Try and see Bakti at Dubai community health centre.

Don't get me started on this, especially when the JESS parents from outside the community are jamming up the community car park to collect their kids from school. Sorry, but that school should have planned for parking for its parents. Our community centre is not the place for them to be parking. name one school in Dubai that has sufficient parking !! lol Ditto that. Where are they supposed to park? It's public parking for everyone and the majority of the parents live in the ranches so it's their centre too. The community centre car park is not big enough for the Arabian Ranches period and its only going to get busier when all the new houses are handed over. Once the after school activities start next week it will ease off as the pick up times will be more staggered. It's always the same at the beginning of term. The planning is Emaar's mistake not the school.

Never had a problem with food delivery here and we have been ordering for years. The key is to order from trusted eateries. We order from NKD pizza ( they do very healthy versions, gluten free, make your own, etc) superfast delivery, Chimes (Asian food, their chilly mussles are insanely huge and delicious, always good quality, cant fault them), Carluccio's (Italian, nice pastas, tiramisu), Zaffran ( amazing Indian food, yummm)... All depends where you are located. Had Zafran at mirdif cc. It was delicious. Do they deliver? To Arabian Ranches? They do indeed! Always arrived promptly and fresh ingredients, just delish :-)

Like previous posters have said, I think they key is to pick your restaurant carefully when it comes to deliveries, and also think about what type of food travels better or worse. I would for example never order anything involving chips for delivery, as no matter how nice when just cooked, they will arrive soggy and horrible. Here's a few trusty delivery favourites used by my husband and I when we're too lazy to cook: Pizza from NKD - very good if you like thin crusts Currybox and Noodlebox for an Asian fix (great lunch deals as well, and you can replace the rice with salad) Wagamama (I sometimes get cravings for their chicken noodle soup) Chin Chin for Chinese food Brick Lane for the British Indian (although their chicken dishes aren't the best - chicken is a bit chewy) Mashawi for delicious Lebanese BBQ ...and then a couple of local restaurants that we've tried in situ before we've ordered deliveries. Do Wagamama deliver? I love Mashawi too. Try Brit Balti for Indian. Chin Chin I thought was awful. Indian cooks.

The point is Monterey Jack cheese isn't supposed to be mouldy is it. Tara is just letting people know to be careful isn't she. Tara I found a mouldy block of cheese in Spinney's that was well within the date. The manager found a tiny hole in the wrapper which he said caused the mould. I do worry about the transportation of chilled goods here.

You need to get professional plans and take them in plus a form I think. They will tell you what you need and it should be in the owners' manual. They will submit them and if they approve it you pay a 5k deposit which you get back once they have seen the completed work. It can take 3 weeks for them to issue the money though!

So did I Asti! Those were the days, sigh. We stayed in Langkawi at the Andaman resort and we all loved it. The kids have asked to go back, they were 9 and 11. It is located in a beautiful curved bay in the rainforest. There is a fantastic spa with a view, the most beautiful setting. It is fairly isolated but you can hire a car or use the complimentary shuttle. We didn't mind the isolation we wanted to just chill and enjoy the surroundings with the wildlife; flying lemurs, iguanas and monkeys. There are kayaks and a catamaran and the pool has a slide which they NEVER tired of. Expect the service to be smiley, slow and irregular at times. They had an inclusive f and b day rate for the kids of around aed65. They could have as much as they wanted to eat and drink including ice cream from the kids menu. They loved this and the independence it gave them. Never been to Koh Samui with the kids but as you know you can wonder around to different restaurants and places. The other extreme.
