hi there, Ive just had my first baby , also at City hospital. very good experience, excellent hpospital and staff! For buying stuff, I understand the dilemna, I was also completly overwhelmed with all the choice out there. But in the end, trust me, whatever you get, it will do, just make sure to get all the essentials and do not worry too much abt getting the 'right' buggy ect... they are probably all good! just consider your budget and what you like and if its handy (not too heavy) we got a middle range price one (a travel system ) called the sola from mamas and papas, its working out fine! and its easy to put up/down, lift in car as its not too heavy. We did not get the pram, only the pushchair which is suitable for newborn as lies flat. Oh yes, and dont go overboard with lovely newborn clothes! Some may look so sweet ect, but beware of items that go over the head, in the first weeks you l+ baby will be happier mainly with babygrows that dont go over the head, and no silly frills ect.. baby does not care and neither will you. And also, remember you wll probably have to change your baby about 4/5 times a day some days (epsecially in the beginning due to pee accidents (specially boys!) Another bit of advice get yourself a few 'newborn pieces for the 1st couple of weeks - but you may start needing 0-3 month items very shortly after birth - but that depends on the size..) If you plan on breastfeeding, get yourself a proper breastfeeding cushion (mothercare has a couple) - I made mistake of buying one from baby shop but it was too thin so a bit useless for supporting baby. so many tips to give , but basically i shopped mainly in mothercare and mamas and papas. plenty of blankets, TONS of cotton wool pads (for changing baby) - the top and tail bowls from mothercare come in v handy for me, use it every day as your baby will be a bit messy and handy to give a quick sponge bath rather than full bath all the time! good luck!

hiya, i also saw Dr Ibrahim at city hospital. He is very nice, soft spoken and sweet actually. I liked very much his approach, he will surely answer all your questions. I did a lot of reading myself during pregnany and that already answered most of my questions, and also taught me that labour is so unpredictable, so you must not expect your ob gyn to go into detail as to how it will happen if you know what I mean! But I can assure you that you d be in good hands with Dr Ibrahim and at City hospital when the time comes, as all the staff there seem to really care what they are doing, from my expreience they are pro natural birth and are not pushy with anything. Also if you are wary of epidural, I would say you are also in safe hands as I had one and the doctor doing it was great, very nice and efficient, done in 5 mins! The City hospital is very good, its very international and I doubt its any less good than any hospital in the world! if you are planning on breastfeeding as well, the nurses and midwives are fully trained to help you the first few days, which is also really important to consider. I gave birth there a few short weeks ago and I had a great experience there, and seeing its such a wonderful moment in your life, its lovely to share it with nice staff you also seem genuinly happy and are so helpful to you. good luck!

if any help, my baby due in ealry jan and I had the same problem! we ended up buying a mamas and papas sola system (car seat + pushchair) Its easy to fold/unfold and its lightweight at abt 9 kg i think, compared to bugaboo or quinney which is abt 13/14 kg. apparently its really useful to have a car seat and you can take in out of car and fit onto stroller as when baby sleeping you dont need to wake her. Also the sola is a 'which' best buy (uk company that reviews products) and the car seat is meant to be v safe. We did not opt to get the carry cot which also fits on frame, as the pushchair itself is suitable for newborn and we ve been told that carry cots are never used more than 2 or 3 months!

i also have the dreamgenii and have totally relied on it since week 24 of being pregnant. Its been the most essential thing during my pregnancy hands down as would not have been sleeping so well without, it really supports back and belly. i guess it depends on each woman s shape though as others seem to do well without one, but for me my back was really pulling without it and I would wake in real discomfort several times a night. it cost abt aed 250 i think and really well worth investing in. you can buy from mamas and papas and also from destination maternity.

Thanks very much for all tips. I think have found a travel system second hand and I may buy the carry cot as well since she is also selling that! So looks like I just need to buy the car seat new. it seems second hand is good option as buying everything new is really expensive considering you are only going to use it for first couple years, plus everything is washable.

Hello, I had the same problem being extremely uncomfortable sleeping as it would pull on my sides and my back in any position. I bought a straight long (quite fat) pillow from mothercare, and the idea is that you hug it and have it between your legs, it cost abt 200 dhs but it was actually quite awkward in the bed and if I wanted to change sides during night it was really big procedure with the cover ect..! also it did not support back or belly v well. so then I bought another one from destination maternity which is much slimmer, its got a banana shape (for putting between legs) and then it has a padded bit for belly support and a more cushiony bit for back support. Its the best design I ve seen and it really works. Also when you want to change sides, you dont have to change the pillow from under you cos of the design. this cost me 400 dhs but trust me it s worth it, i hardly have any discomfort with it up to now (am 27 weeks) so hope it will last throughout! Also it can help with breastfeeding apparently later. cant believe i ve just written so much abt a pillow but seriously its was getting really bad! so id really recommend you invest in this one in case the other one you are buying second hand does not work. hope that helps as well :-) haooy sleeping!

I ve only been to marina mall to mothercare but that is tiny. I would like to buy some prenatal stuff maybe some clothes and also a pillow and have a look around generally, but without having to vist 2 or 3 differenct stores. Tks girls!

Oh tks for tip Dikane! I ll try them both out soon I hope, its hard as work until abt 1800 so cant be anywhere before 1830 but will give them both a go. I want to find a really good class for yoga or pilates and do it twice a week as apparently its really good to get strong. So far since being pregnant have only managed to keep up swimming and sometimes bike or walking at gym but feel its not enough! I was so tired during 1st trimester, but now feeling very energetic again so need to make the most of the next 3 months!
