This thread is shocking! I cannot believe some posts I read. Just because you were born in Europe, US or Australia, doesn't mean you're God's gift to heaven. Why? This is the reality here. People get so angry about maids' salary and won't accept any justification from others who couldn't afford to pay what they consider high salary. And yet the same people have no problem taking a swipe at other people's education background and qualification just because they are not from western countries. Some westerns that I met in my industry are very qualified and have very impressive experience but some are not. The same can be said about people from non western countries. It may be reality, that doesn't make it right. I've been here quite some time now and I cannot and will not get used to that attitude. No, it's not right but what can you do? When I first arrived, I got angry all the time thinking about it as my passport does not have the right colour. After awhile, I realised that there's no point whining about how things are here. You just have to try your best to change what you can change.

Hilsbils, I think women are always more broody than men. We were about to celebrate 6th anniversary before I discovered that we were finally expecting. The whole times before that, I was always upset whenever the subject came out but my husband and his family never make a big deal or fuss about it at all. We did fertility treatment once but it put a lot of stress in our relationship that we gave up after a few months. My DH said to me, if it is meant to be for us to have children, then we will have. If not, that's okay. I made 1 last attempt with both traditional and modern medicine just before following him to Dubai and we were successful. Almost immediately after DD was born, we decided we are only up for 1 child. I have many friends who are happily married and child free. For them, that's their choice and very happy about it. It bugs them when people think they are putting brave face or should be upset that they do not have children to keep their life happy. Is your desire to have a child more than your desire to be with your DH? Will be a mother make you happier than be a wife? Life as a single parent is not easy. Are you up for it? Will you not regret letting your DH go in order to have your dream child? Maybe you should give yourself and your DH a break from the stress. I am a firm believer that good things happen when you least expected. I wish you a happy and prosperous 2013.

My husband submitted his emirates ID renewal application form at the typing center. I can't remember how much he paid for 2 years visa but the process took about 10 - 15 minutes. He then forwarded the application form to his PRO for his visa renewal. No fingerprint, no photograph but the card will still take a few weeks to get.

We paid AED2750 per year for our maid's Gold Package with Euromed/New India insurance. No 9 months waiting for direct billing like AXA. Unfortunately it only covers 2 hospitals; Iranian Hospital and Belhoul Hospital but we are pretty happy with the list of available clinics that she can go to. The details of the insurance: Sum insured : AED250,000 Territory : UAE, GCC, India sub continents, SEA In patient & Out patient : 1) 100% of the bill payable for treatment in network facility 2) 65% of the bill payable for treatment in non-network facility Room (max) : AED500 per day Deductable : AED50 Maternity and dental are not covered unfortunately. Maternity is only covered under platinum package. Not sure how much that is. I got this insurance through Intercontinental Broker - [email protected]

My company is also not on an approved list. After 4 years with the company and the bank, ENBD let me have a credit card but with credit limit of 2/3 of my salary. I want to open a fast saver account with RAK bank and asked them whether I am eligible for their credit card. The staff told me that I could have a credit card with a credit limit that is based on the amount that I would deposit on the fast saver account.

When I did body attack, I definitely burn more calories than when I do circuit or body pump. Body attack make me lost weight but circuit/body pump transfer my fat into muscle. When I did 3 cardio classes and 1 circuit/body pump a week, people keep on commenting that I seem to lose too much weight when in fact my weight have not changed at all. I cut 1 cardio class down and add a swimming session, my weight still remain the same but my body looks more tone and no more negative comment about weight loss ;) My point is that; zumba and body attack will make you happy when you look at the calories you burned after the class but classes like circuit, body pump, boot camp will make you happy when you notice the change in your body after a few months. http://takingthehelmofyourownevolution.blogspot.com/2011/03/why-zumba-is-pants-for-burning-bodyfat.html <em>edited by blimey on 27/11/2012</em>

The Oman visa costs 50 DHS. If you need a driver there are drivers that charge 150 or 200 per person. There was a thread a few days ago which stated that the renewal of visa in Dubai costs 650 DHS ( or in the region of) and you can only do it once. Hattan/Oman can be done multiple times. Let me know if you need a driver recommended. N0rdique, can you give me the driver details? My visitor will need to do this in a couple of weeks time. TIA.

You don't give them the uae labor contract. There is an employment agreement supplied by the philippine embassy. Are you sure? My maid just did her paperwork today as she is going for her vacation soon. Along with the 2 documents, she brought her original contract and they stamped it. When she chose to do it at home 2 years ago, her sister had to collect the contract from me and take it to the consulate for attestation, scan and email it to her.

thanks for that as we still haven't decided but were leaning towards AXA as cheaper and money is an big issue for us. AXA is indeed cheaper but for the first 9 months period, you will have to pay first and claim later. Most of the times, you might not even get the whole amount that you are trying to claim.

Anyway, just in case you are not aware, there are two parks close to the DIFC that you could take your toddler to; Satwa Park (opposite DIFC, behind Shangri La) and Zabeel Park. Good luck with your search. Btw, I thought Southridge and the residence are in Downtown area, not DIFC? Not that it's relevant to this article but I just have a question. In the Islamic way does the mahr have to be offered by the groom? Because I know that in Pakistan and India (I'm talking about the practicing Muslim communities) the dowry is offered from the woman's side of the family to the groom and his family. Just wondering. That is interesting to know. In Singapore and Malaysia, the groom's family prepares the dowry. However, currently, the couple themselves come up with the money. In Malaysia, as far as I know mahr and dowry are considered two different thing. Mahr for each state is different, very small amount and will be mentioned in the wedding verse and marriage certificate. The dowry however range between 4000 to 20000 ringgit agreed by both bride and groom family. The dowry usually use by the couple for the wedding, honeymoon and to start their new life together.

Nice of him to take a stand, but if it were my dad handing me over for such a low sum, I'd be furious. Is he saying she isn't worth more? http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/saudi-arabia/saudi-bride-s-father-asks-for-a-sr2-dowry-1.1081127 Why would you be furious that your father doesn't put a price on your value?!! Not just any price!!! A high price! Would you be happy if your dad sold you off cheap? surely a marriage is not equal to "selling one daughter off"? Personally, I wouldn't want to start my married life with my husband high in debt.

I think The Nomad (Sucasa?) have been recommended on here several times. If I remember the location of the Nomad, your DH might have to take taxi as it is quite a walk to KLCC especially considering how humid Malaysia can be. There is a park called Taman Tasik Titiwangsa but I honestly not sure whether that park or KLCC park would be nearer to Sucasa. Nevertheless, both are quite a short drive by taxi. I would recommend KLCC park however as you might want to go to Suria KLCC for a bite afterward. Unless you fancy trying local stalls ;-) http://www.asiaexplorers.com/malaysia/taman_tasik_titiwangsa.htm http://www.kiat.net/towers/park.html As for Fahrenheit, I think your DH can either walk, take train or taxi. I can't remember any park around Bukit Bintang area. The indoor theme park in Time Square would be too noisy for your little ones. <em>edited by blimey on 14/09/2012</em>

If you want to stay in service apartment within walking distance to KLCC, I would recommend the following: 1. PNB Darby Park 2. Fraser Place 3. Ascott I always enjoy our stays at PNB Darby Park (Executive floors are preferable) and Fraser Place but I have never stayed at Ascott. All are very close to KLCC. You can take your children for a walk to KLCC park and play area just behind the KLCC everyday. For Fraser and Ascott, you can use www.booking.com. Fraser only have 1 bedroom apartment, Ascott you can go for 1 or 2 bedrooms. For PNB Darby Park, try www.agoda.com as I believe it's more expensive to book directly using their website.

Why don't you just buy your DD a navy colour swimsuit from other places? That's what I did when DD went to Safa. I am doing the same thing for DD's current school. As long as the colour is the same, I don't think the school will make an issue. You will notice the same with cardigans and trainers.
