Hi Daquiri. Congrat on your smooth goining pregnancy!!!! Due end Oct and have a Scan my NT scan booked on April 15. In my opinion, I would not cancel this scan as it is performed by an experienced radiologist and it is to assess your baby's risk of having Down syndrome and some other chromosomal abnormalities as well as major congenital heart problems. It is a test that can't be done after 14 weeks, keep this in mind if you decide to cancel it. Have a good day!

Hi all I'm expecting my first baby this October, very excited! I decided to go with Dr Yamini at Al Zahra Hospital. I was very impressed both with Dr Yamini and the hospital - I did a tour yesterday. I've had an 8 week scan so far where I heard the baby's heart beat and have my 12 week scan next week. Would be great to hear from some other ladies out there also expecting in October! Hey! Delivered my 2nd baby with Yamini and she is great. However, I am getting mixed reviewed on al Zahara hospital. Seems that the neonatal and the care in case of problem at delivery are not as good as in other private hospital. I think I am going to stick to welcare, american hospital or City hospital even if it means changing to another Dr. Anyway, all comments on Al Zahara hospital will be very much appreciated. All the best with your pregnancy! By the way, I am also expecting on Oct :-)))) <em>edited by boumboum on 24/03/2014</em>

Hi ladies, I am pregnant with my 3rd child and my gyn Dr Yamini Dhar has moved from Welcare to Al Zahara hospital in Dubai. I was happy with my delivery with her for my 2nd child but I am a bit concerned about Al Zahara hospital. So, I am thinking on booking an appointment at American Hospital with Dr Raj which I got good review on. Any recommendation on Al Zahara or DR Raj at American would be most welcome. Thanks a lot in advance for your help! <em>edited by boumboum on 24/03/2014</em>

Thanks as well for the homework article. For the records, I attended a school where there was no homework in primary and no exams sessions until last 2 years of the secondary curriculum. Instead we had continuous assessment (regular tests). Overall I found it was a very positive experience. I really enjoyed my childhood and did perform very well at the university afterwards. The school also emphasized a lot on learning by experimenting which I find similar to IB curriculum. My experience is that it fitted me very well but of course it depends a lot of the teachers and your personality. I really hope my children get to have a good time at school while learning. Finger crossed they get that by attending DIA!

After using both companies I would strongly recommend Epsco + A/C unit/coil cleaning/servicing by maintenance company over Saniservice. Seems that part of the units already cleaned by Saniservice were not cleaned properly and that some mold were remaining in the ducting system. Big thanks to EPSCO for sorting out my mold issue that had been pending for months!

I have had post-natal pilat once with an indian lady - 8 months ago. Or was she persian? Very thin, dark skin and sweet. She was really good and noticed I had some abdos problems so couldn't do some exercices. I don't remember her name but ask the receptionist if it is the same person and if do you cannot go wrong! Regarding the prices, if you take a 10 class membership it gets slightly cheaper... <em>edited by boumboum on 30/05/2012</em>

Didn't want to use alarming words like lymphoma, hodgkins disease but was also what I had been diagnosed. Really hope it turns to be nothing in your case.

Maybe your story has nothing to do with mine but tought it might help.... As a yound adult I had an enlarged lymph node under the collarbone (and later echo showed few more under my armsplit). My mother - a doctor - thought it was not normal and brought me to a specialist doctor in internal medicine. I received antibiotics for 2 weeks which didn't help. If I remember well, lumph node started by reducing a bit but then was back to original size after only 1 week. Following this failed antibiotic trials a whole batch of test was carried (blood test, echo, pet-scan, synthigraphy and some more thnigs I don't remember) and aslo a biopsy (surgery) to diagnose the desease. I think nothing was really wrong in the blood test -just showing some kind of infection level. But it ends up my mother was right I had a bad lymphatic system desease. I had an heavy treatment for 6 months and I have now been fine for 15 years. As a doctor, my mother looked for a well recommended internal doctor and pushed to get an urgent appointment. It was a chance she did so as having the diagnostic early reduces the lenght of the treatment and increase the chances of recovery. Your doctor seems to take good care of you as you are following the same path (surgery = biopsy) and I really hope your child gets to feel better very soon. <em>edited by boumboum on 30/05/2012</em>

Used to go to zenyoga studio for prenatal yoga. Just loved it and the baby too! I think the teacher's name was laura but not so sure. Look for a very sweet blong girl. Regarding bikram, I don't think it is recommended as heat isn't usually good while pregnant but might be wrong...

Got also very good reviews on Blossom. Used to have my baby at Children Oasis and I also really loved it. They had plenty of activities and the staff was loving and caring. I even received at the end of the year a photo album with all the progress of my child. Wanderful!!! One drawback...it doesn't come cheap....

Agree with mushypeas. Will be difficult at this time of the year to find a school you like and would recommend you go for nursery instead of school for this year. I got good review of Blossom nursery but there are plenty of good nursery out there! good luck with your school hunting.

As far as I know it is better to avoid sun exposure before 2 y.o. So, better to use hat, long sleeves and so on to cover up your baby. For what is remaining exposed it is recommended to apply very high UVA/UVB sun protection. That's why you don't find any sun cream with SPF below 50 for kids....

Hi There! My son (3y.o) will be starting KG1 at DIA in September. When I visited the school I was seduced by the fact that children learn trough experimentation and that the curriculum isn't too demanding in KG years. Also, I know some of his friends from nursery will be going there next year. This said, I came trough some negative reviews about DIA on this forum but they seems to apply more to secondary rather than primary. Can any parent provide me feedback on KG and Primary education (Year 1 to Year 3) at DIA? Is your child happy there? Is the level of english good? Are the teacher loving and caring? Is the teacher's turnover not to high? Is the communication with the parents good? Are they lot of activities organised with the children? Desespearte for a feedback as I have also been offered a place in a other school that gets better feedback on this forum but I would rather stick to DIA.

I have been told to register at least 1 year in advance for FS1. If you don't have a place in a school you like you might apply directly for FS2 and keep your child in the nursery for 1 more year. I heard lot of people do that.

Just tought of few more things I did try when introducing solid food: - texture is very important, to start puree needs to be very smooth. I ended-up giving ready made puree untill I managed to reproduce a similar texture home-made. - He played with games where he had to concentrate while eating - I asked others to feed him. He would eat much better with his father (very depressing) - I tied to vary food as much as possible e.g. He doesn't like to eat same food for 2 days - I tried to have a very regular routine. Always eating at the same time. - I tried to feed him with other kids around/e.g. at the playground (very effective) - I used baby milk-formula until 2 y.o. to ensure he had enough vitamins.

If the sales person from saniservice told you an extra access chamber needs to be created to access and clean the A/C unit (e.g. in a gypsum ceiling) don't assume they will take care of it unless it is clearly mentioned in the quote. Following my experience with saniservice, a friend of mine did use them. When she received the quote she called them to insist they include the creation of the access chamber in the quote. She then received a new separated quote for the creation of the access chamber by a carpenter. As far as I am concerned, I did use Saniservice first. I left the house for the whole day and when I came back was really surprised to find out one A/C unit hadn't been cleaned because they couldn't access it. I was very upset as when the sales person had come to my house he had taken lot of pictures and insited on the fact that the big difference between saniservice and other companies was that they will clean from A to Z the A/C system. He is the one that talked me about the access chamber that needed to be created. I ended up having a big argument with saniservice and I am now finishing the job with epsco.

Hi there. Just think you might want to see Dr Petermans at the Belgian Clinic. She is pretty buzy but has been really fantastic when I had similar issues with my son who is really a very picky eater since 3 months old. She has always been really reassuring, telling me that if he was developing well (psychomotor skills) and was happy that was all that mattered. I was very stressed and depressed and besides looking at my baby she would always ask how I felt. She ordered an echography to exclude any digestive problems and a blood tests to ensure proper iron level. Looking backwards I think it was to help me distress as she always tought my baby was all fine - just not as in the book. He is now 3 y.o. Still very difficult with food, tall (97 percentile) and very thin (3rd percentile) but very healthy, energetic and happy. It might be very difficult but I agree try not to worry to much and do not force him to eat in any ways. In my case, I found it helped to play with him play while eating and be creative with food (e.g. he loves vegy or wafles kebabs, eating with toothpicks...). Good luck!!!!

Saniservice and epsco both provide excellent service. Saniservice is 2x more expensive because they will strip open your A/C unit and clean it inside whereas epsco will clean the A/C unit only where accessible without opening it.Epsco are not A/C technician and don't want to risk to damage your A/C. It is according to them the job of your regular maintenance company to clean inside the A/C. [b'>If you chose to go for Saniservice, make sure of what is included in the quote[/b'>. In my case I ended-up having an argument with the sales person of Saniservice because in the quote it was written that they will clean the entire A/C system and when they performed the job they couldn't do part of the house because the A/C unit was not accessible and an extra access needed to be created. I am now using epsco (for the duct) together with mplus (for the unit) to finilise the job. It is a bit of a coordination nightmare but at the end it comes AED 1000 cheaper for a 4 B/R villa (even AED 1600 cheaper as with saniservice you would have to do a regular maintenance on top of the cleaning). Hope it helps! edited by boumboum on 23/05/2012 <em>edited by boumboum on 23/05/2012</em>

So are you guys saying that if she is going away for a month, obviously you pay the month she is gone, but then you pay a bonus month on top of that? what does she do for you? does your employer raise your salary by 5% - 10% every year? Most people I talked to are giving a bonus at Christmas and are giving 1-month annual paid leaves (+ flight ticket). The bonus is very much an incentive. She gets no bonus if I am not happy with her work and full bonus if she work hard. Seems to work well.

The results of a personal "market research" is that most people do give an annual bonus of 1-month salary and an increase of salary of AED 100 every year. We give the annual bonus at Christmas + a Xmas gift and we pay for the flight ticket home in summer (+ 1 month paid vacations) so it spread our expenses trough the year. <em>edited by boumboum on 20/05/2012</em>

My 3 y.o boy wakes up at 6/6.30am everyday. That's just the way it is and as per my mum I used to wake-up even earlier. Sorry mum ;-) If you have also tried the blackout, nap/no nap, early/late sleeping time...and nothing is delaying the begining of the day, I hope you are not working and can do a nap during the day. Otherwise, you might try to put some toys next to your bed and let him play by himself until you end up opening your eyes. Did't work for me as my boy much prefer to play "Rodeo" on my back but worth giving a try...

There are quite few options available within JBR I think. The other day, I passed by kidville: http://www.kidville.com/jbr/. Never attended their classes but seems very appealing but also quite expensive. Otherwise you can hire a swimming teacher...never to soon to learn swimming and perfect when heats hit 50C.

I am just returning from the maldive and yes - you can stay at the hotel enjoying the beach, pool, spa treatments, walking around the island and enjoying the beautiful view/sunset while drinking fruit juices....but it would be a pitty not to go diving or at least snorkling. The coral reef is just incredible there and so is the diving. You can get to swim with whales shark, manta ray...While beeing there we went snorkling or diving every morning and enjoyed the hotel's facilities in the afternoon. Male - not been there but also heard it's dirty and not worth visiting. I really had a good time and for once didn't need extra vacations to recover from my vacations ;-) Enjoy !!!!
