I've been American all my 34 years and never worn a hat or known anyone else to wear a hat EXCEPT when I was in preschool and we made pilgram hats or Indian feathers before that was un-PC. Pinterest will have directions on how to make those.[/quo Thanks Meagle, well good for you. Clearly we have never grown up.

Who wears hats for Thanksgiving? What kind of hat are you thinking of? Thanks for your helpful reply. Some Americans wear hats for Thanksgiving. We are having a party and wanted to get some fun hats such as Pilgrim Hats or Hats with Turkeys on. That sort of thing.

The Party Shop there is one in Motorcity and Jumeirah Beach Road. There are a few fancy dress shops in The Beach Centre (the blue one) on Beach Road. I have bought pink hairspray from one in there before. Possibly Diaso

There is definitely a big market for hair extensions here. I go to The Gold Salon to get mine done as they had really good recommendations from friends. They are really expensive though.

Does anyone have any recommendations of things to do in these places? We are looking for a place to chill out for a few days so came up with Cape Cod. Can anyone share their experiences of going there or is there a place near to Boston which is good for just chilling out. TIA

I will never get that part of human nature that will begin smear campaigns to protect their veiw of themselves that satisfies them the most. To play at being the victim, whilst attacking so vehemently. Its a stunted ugly part of the human being. While youre still mourning the friendship, they have the knife in your back twisting viciously. The best you can hope for is a fresh start with REAL friends around you, and be thankful that the true nature has shown itself and you no longer have to be a part of it. Yes, it comes as a horrible shock, but take it, learn from it and you will get over it. It's good to see your view written down, thanks arohadxb. You have it spot on. I think jealousy is at the root of it. In observing it there seems to be a jealousy of that persons popularity or lifestyle and when those things don't rub off on them they feel they have to attack and diminish the friend. And whilst the salacious gossip is occassionally enjoyed and the attacker basks in her glow of victim it doesn't last. The attacker has to move on as her true colours have been shown. And good always triumphs over evil. Off she goes, spreading her muck far and wide, having no true deep lasting friendships. Pretending to herself that she has been wronged. I know how true this can be especially in Dubai. Dubai changes people some for the better and some for the worst. I have noticed a couple of people i was close to before have turned in complete and utter "princesses" ....nothing is good enough for them anymore....and they treat their husbands like [email protected] put too emphasis on money - for them its about which restuarant is the most expensive rather than which restaurant serves the best food...I think dynamics of friendships change over time....people inevitably change some for the worst some for the better...If the UK papers have shown anything this week it has to be some of the richest people in the world are the most unhappy.... Dubai is definitely a place where you have to keep your feet firmly on the ground....

Hi I know this should be on the pets section but i thought it would get more traffic here. one of my neighbours woke up a couple of days ago to find his dog missing from this garden. It is a beautiful white Japense Akita mixed with german shepherd...and belongs to his little girl. It has been a couple of days now so if the dog had gone for a wander it could have made it to the Springs area etc. Pls call Mr Abdulla if you spot her or find her 050 631 81 51 You may know already but it was mentioned on the JVT facebook page that a woman found two men trying to lure her dog out of her garden with toys and treats - they were in a blue truck if I remember rightly. She should check all sale sites (Dubizzle, Souq etc.) and it may be worth a trip to Sharjah Animal Souq if she can bear it. If I see the dog around though will of course ring Yes i have been keeping utd with the JVT page but thought it was worth posting on here for the extra traffic.....fingers crossed this dog can be found

sorry my previous post was confusing because we dont have district cooling as all the villas are independant so our DEWA bill under electricity reflects all the charges for the AC etc....

I dont understand the DEWA bills in JVT.... however I am not going to complain about that because I can see that alot of you have already done so. but what i am worried about is that I assumed the DEWA bill is high because of the AC, and just realized that AC is not included in the DEWA bill.... So who pays the District Cooling? landlord or should I? we have been in the house for 6 months now and i havent recieved any District cooling bill? how come?! it is included under the electricity they just dont state district cooling...

it's the same as anything it depends how much effort you put in with other people. When you move there i would recommend posting something on the facebook page to say you have a 4 year old son who is looking for some play mates and i am sure you will get some responses. I dont have kids so cant really comment but i have met a lot of my neighbours in my district just by talking to people in the street when im walking my dogs. When the play areas are finished i would imagine it would be easier for your son to interact with the other kids. Hi Bracy Haven't seen many people walking dogs as yet, but no doubt it's a big area to cover. Could you please let me know which gardener you used, as I have about 15 - 20 cards in my kitchen !!!! and need to find a reasonably cheap one to do some work. Thanks Hi Dilys which district are you in? I am in district 4....i can dig the number out for the gardeners when i get home they have done quite a lot of work for us and maintain the gardener for us we pay him 200DHS per month. edited by Bracey777 on 18/06/2012 Thanks for that. We're in district 5, so could be reasonably close - or not!!! yes you will be on the other side of the big park to us...so very close. Will find the number for you this evening

i have lived there for 3 years and i love it. I have had some problems but a lot less than other places i have lived in Dubai. The rusty water is not an issue for me as if you run the tap for 30 seconds it all comes outs and is back to normal again. I dont think you need a maintenance contract ....in three years i have only had a couple of problems which were easy to fix. There is a company you can call to come and fix things were are very cheap. Be very careful of reading the JVT facebook page as people use it as a forum to moan about everything...it isnt really used as the community page it was intended for. The kitchens and bathrooms in my opinion have a great finish and i havent had any problems with either. Most recently they have planted a lot of trees and i live beside the big park they are working on at the moment. I really like living there the size of the gardens and villas really are fantastic

Hi - i searched everywhere for them last year when i was looking for them for my wedding. Eventually i got them shipped from the UK and they delivered to Dubai at a very small cost maybe 5 pounds or something. When they arrived i was so glad i ordered them from UK because the quality was amazing and they looked great wrapped around the champagne glasses at the wedding. If you like i can dig out the info for you

My parents came out in November and they were in their 60's they loved the afternoon tea at The Ritz. You could also take them to one of the cafes/restuarants overlooking Ski Dubai, Dubai Mall Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, evening cruise along the creek, big bus tour.

subyfan65 - why dont you go and speak to the people who are letting their dogs bark constantly..maybe there is something wrong with the dog..i think it is a bit unfair to put people off JVT because of this. I live there and i really love it and i am not kept awake by barking dogs but if i was i would be straight around to my neighbours house to complain. I think when people are looking to move to the area i always suggest they check out the street they are moving into as some streets do have lots of dogs but it doesnt necessarily mean they will bark all day and all night.

I am also a vegetarian and i when i started dieting i had a similar problem. The reason being i was eating too much cheese and carbs and not enough eggs etc. I was also drinking too many milky coffees. If you like the quorn sausages, mince etc they are really good to have in the evenings with some veg or salad. I have been doing the four hour body diet where you basically eat a high protein diet (not including cheese and little milk/cream) and one day per week you get a cheat day where you can eat whatever you like. I have lost 6 KGs so far on it. You can also drink red wine on the diet. Also cut out the fruit i have read a lot of books and articles which say you should only eat fruit once per week if you are struggling to loose weight because it is really high in sugar. I have only just started going to the gym twice a week doing some cardio and weights and just brought a bike so twice a day now i go out on that. I know how hard it is being a vegetarian and trying to loose weight because you have to be really creative with meals as we dont have the option of eating meat with veggies etc. Hope this will help you

i have spent many evenings trowling the neighbourhood for my cats when i first moved to a new area however what i learnt is they eventually come back, normally a few hours later. Cats will generally always come back to where they are fed and loved. After some time they had explored the area and now tend to stay in the garden. Both my cats are rescue cats as well. Next time you let them out try to relax and sure enough they will come back. Hope this helps

I have done some research and every wednesday and saturday evening there are fireworks off navy pier which your children may like and from the website there seems to be lots of rides etc there. On our list is also the planterium, Lincoln Park Zoo, The Bean, Skyview Tower and of course we are fitting in some Chicago Town Pizza

JC11 for the initial eyelash extensions to go on it does take a while an hour and a half probably but a few times i have just fallen asleep. Madolecow i have left them for a month before and they still looked fine not as thick but still good. I am going tonight for the refills again and i have actually left it just over three weeks this time and they are still good. I also wear contact lenses and havent encountered any problems putting them in or out. The only problem sometimes is when the fake lashes fall out sometimes they take the real ones with them but this is only the odd one. I have worn them now for over a year and i really love them. edited by Bracey777 on 16/05/2012 <em>edited by Bracey777 on 16/05/2012</em>

I have eyelash extensions. The best place i have found and go to regularly is Sisters beauty Salon in Dubai Mall. They initially cost AED 600 and come with the recommendation you have a refill every 2 weeks which costs AED 200. Generally i would say i probably have the refills every 3 weeks or so as they stay in really well. They also save you from wearing eye make up in this heat. Yes you can swim with them but not within 24 hours after you have them done. There are other places that do them but i didnt find they lasted as long. The number for sisters is 043398500 and i always ask for Jeralyn as she is the best. Hope this helps

Just be sure when you hire one you are clear on the times and the day. I got a phonecall the day before the blessing of my wedding to say the officiant/minister had had a different start time of our wedding to me and was going to be on the other side of Dubai for another wedding an hour earlier so wouldnt be able to get to us in time. Not sure where the communication had got broken down but it was one of the things i should have checked we had got right. I could have done without this kind of stress the day before. Although we were both late in the end so it worked out okay my advice to anyone getting married is to make sure the timings etc are all understood. I met with Helen who a couple of ladies have recommended but unfortunately she couldn't do our wedding as she was away but i really liked her. edited by Bracey777 on 15/05/2012 <em>edited by Bracey777 on 15/05/2012</em>

I wanted to add that part of what makes us love our dogs even more is their cheekiness, their unpredictability and their general 'naughty-monkey' behaviour. Please console yourself with the fact that your babies were simply having fun and enjoying themselves when this tragic accident occurred. edited by DebsDebs on 09/05/2012 I couldn't have said it better myself. I read the guidance notes, for a renewal of a child's passport you need a countersignatory, but not for adults. I presume it's because children can't sign for themselves or fill out their own passport so it's some sort of protection for them. The countersignatory has to have known me and not the child, so to limit fraud I guess. I just filled out the smart form for the signatory online, because the boxes have to be filled else you can't print and my countersignatory signed and certified the photo. I'm hoping it will be fine! I have sent mine off two weeks ago and i am changing my name. They took the payment within a week and then informed me i would receive my new passport within 12 working days. For the countersignatory i just printed the smart form off without filling in the details and my countersignatory just did it in pen. It may be easier to just save the smart form to your computer first and then print thats what i did. I presume this is okay as when they contacted me it was because my bank were blocking the payment transaction as it was in Germany.
