sorry to hear about your experience. Please do not let this put you off adopting a dog. I have a gorgeous husky x which we got from K9 friends. They do struggle slightly in the summer but as long as you are prepared to walk them early in the mornings and very late at night during the summer months you will be fine. I did read somewhere that Huskys have lots of layers of fur to keep them warm but the layers of fur also protect them from the sun. My dog loves the sun at the moment i caught him having a cheeky sunbathe on a sunlounger the other week... Unfortunately some people are not aware of all the facts and are even rude to me when i walk my dog telling me off for having a dog like that in this climate. I just educate them a bit and carry on walking my gorgeous dog. Why dont you try K9 i believe they have some Husky X at the moment?

i live in JVT and drive through Jumeirah Park when i head to the Springs. It has been worked on a lot and the villas look great. Nakheel appear to be working constantly on their projects in that area. The larger villas on the way to IBN mall are called Al Furjan and they look massive again being worked on constantly as i drive past them every day. The windows appear to all be in now and they are all painted. Hope this helps

A dog park would be fabulous. That way people who wanted to bring their kids could. I would even be willing to pay a nominal fee to go for the upkeep of the park. Sadly, the problem I can see happening would be similiar to that of what happened at the Dog Show the other day. Unsocialised dogs, irresponsibile owners = Chaos! This would be a fab idea so long as all dog owners are responsible...i would be willing to pay as well. Like you have mentioned those who dislike pets would not have to go.

Which park did you try to bring him to? I bring my doggies to the park where i live in Springs and to say he is the star of the park is an understatement. All the kids love him and play with him and chase him- its great for all of them to become socialised with dogs. Obviously, we dont leave them alone and they are always supervised and we pick up after them etc etc. Thats a shame you couldnt bring your kitty somewhere- def look into the grass box perhaps! I think very expat areas such as springs and ranches etc you can take pets to the local park

Because our kids play in the parks and we do not want them playing amongst dog and cat cr@p. Yep, I would not want to visit a park to see peoples pets.....there is a zoo. I am sure my dog would not not like to bump into you either AQ... Why so nasty? Just because it might be your culture to take animals to the park, it is not mine. The parks are made for families..... "Why so nasty" Not really sure my comment is nasty you dont want to bump into other people's pets my point was they probably wouldnt want to bump into you either! Your comment is uncalled for and doesnt add any value but thats my opinion. "There is a zoo" - you cant really go to the zoo and see domesticated cats or dogs. You have you opinion and will have mine....

Bracey...this was on my mind so much last night that I couldn't sleep, and when I did I had awful nightmares about people attacking my dogs!! My position on euthanising the dog has changed. I honestly feel for the owners. I think they had a dreadful lapse of judgement in not properly restraining their dog. It should have been muzzled and handled by someone both paying attention to what was going on around it and strong enough to control it. I know they must feel worse than I can imagine right now. But the dog must be PTS. It saddens my beginner animal activist heart to say that, but for a big strong dog to kill a much smaller, weaker opponent is just NOT normal healthy behaviour. Worse, this is a pet dog that lives with and is used to small children and small animals. It makes his snap and killing of another dog even more frightening. Tragedy all round. Greenish - i have given my opinion on this below i cant agree but think the dog should be fully assessed before it is put to sleep. I know what you mean as it has been on my mind since i saw the limp dog.

...all i can see on this thread is people trying to blame the organisers, the sponsers, the vets checking the dogs on the door, the owners. Lets step back and look at the lessons which need to be learnt going forward for this incident never to happen again....blame will not make anyone feel any better edited by Bracey777 on 06/02/2012 You're right about that. A lot of the blame discussion here started though because people were quick to blame the dog. Sure the dog did the deed, but the dog is the one part of this whole sorry tale who it not at 'fault'. All I hope is that the event is allowed to continue and that it's very different in the future, doing its best to ensure safety (and fun!) for all. me too Greenish..

Bracey777, if they feel awful about it then why have witnesses to this horrid attack all said the owners just walked off? Just trying to get my head around that. They feel awful, I'm sorry but I do not have much sympathy for them. They should have had their dog muzzled. My mind won't be changed on this. You have a dog like that then it should be muzzled in public, especially in the environment such as a dog show where there are many dogs and kids about. I agree the dog should have been muzzled butwhat i am trying to say is an awful thing happened thats all. No amount of money will change that.....all i can see on this thread is people trying to blame the organisers, the sponsers, the vets checking the dogs on the door, the owners. Lets step back and look at the lessons which need to be learnt going forward for this incident never to happen again....blame will not make anyone feel any better edited by Bracey777 on 06/02/2012

IMO the fault lies with 1st and foremost the attacking dog's owners. They were so irresponsible with not having their dog muzzled. And the event organisers cannot be left without any blame either. They should have had a team of staff watching and making sure dogs that had to be muzzled were muzzled. I've read reports the owners may be fined approx DHS5000... IMO this amount is far too low. Their dog KILLED another dog. They are responsible, so they must pay. Shellly - what in your mind is a fair fine/punishment? They already have had their dog taken off them which is now being held at the muncipality pound and will be possibily be put to sleep...I imagine they feel awful about the whole thing..... edited by Bracey777 on 06/02/2012

You are welcome to have it in your family...I would not. Exactly - i wonder how many of those saying that this dog shouldn't be destroyed would happily leave one of their children (esp under 4 year old) in a room alone with it..... I wouldn't leave my nephew alone with this dog..... Am i wrong in thinking the staff is from a family with children???? To be honest i wouldnt leave any dog in a room with a four year old child unsupervised, surely that is just being irresponsible...Like someone has previously said you never know when a dog may snap....but that's just my opinion edited by Bracey777 on 06/02/2012

And they're now suing the owners and the organisers. I feel sad for the poodle, it was a horrible incident. But I don't think the Staffi should be punished for other people negligence. that dog should be put down. No he should not be. The organisers and owners should be. Probably that too, but once an animal has shown that level of aggression it really does need to be destroyed for the safety of all other animals as well as for any children around it. I dont agree i am sorry...one dog has died already.... of course the dog should be destroyed. Don't be so niaive I am not being NAIVE i just think in my personal opinion the dog should be assessed before being put to sleep. It is after all described as a family dog...this is just my opinion though...your welcome to yours as well edited by Bracey777 on 06/02/2012

How does it work....I mean how long does it last? Are they high maintenance? Sorry if I sound silly, but I've only had the 2 week ones, the ones with glue, but I paid the equivalent of £20...wasn't too keen on those. Just wondered if it was the same kinda thing They last for 8 weeks. I was having the refills every two weeks as well which cost 200 aed but you only need these if you want them for the long term...I got a bit addicted to them because I loved how they looked. You don't need to wear mascara with them and everyone comments on them. I originally had them done for my wedding in November and even the make up artist was blown away by them and made an appointment the next day to get them. They have different lengths to choose from but I always go for the longest ones.... You don't sound silly at all....I asked so many questions before I got mine done... Becky hope you don't mind another question or two, then :) Every 2 weeks looks affordable to me, but are they just real funky at the 14 day mark? I mean, if you had to put off a refill appointment for a couple of days, would you go berserk? Does the glue or the attachment itself make your eyelids itch? I love the idea of this--I have such light eyelashes but very little primp time in the morning. Well, time to be on here obviously :) but it is always a rush between when my gym opens and getting ready for work after. Sorry, one more question--does the skin under your eyes look fresher since you don't have to remover mascara daily? That was my main reason for seeking this out. Many thanks! Hi - no they arent funky at the 14 day period sometimes i have left it until 3-4 weeks mark to have the refills sometimes. At the moment i have not had them done for about 7 weeks and they still look good (maybe not as thick though) My eyelids do not itch or anything. I even wear contact lenses and find the lashes have caused me no discomfort of getting the contacts in and out. I have very short eyelashes so the extensions were a godsend and a bit like you by the time i have walked the dog in the morning i dont have much time to get ready for work. Another reason i had them done was i found i ended up with panda eyes by lunchtime where my mascara and eyeline had smudged from me sweating... Hope this helps x It sure does! thanks!! And I guess I was a bit groggy; who is this "Becky?" :/ I am sold on it! dxbnewbie: see now, that is what I don't want to hear! jk...one would have to figure that it would though, right?--just like getting acrylics off the nails I suppose.... I might be teed off a few months from now, but I'll enjoy the ride I guess. Thanks for the warning! i wondered who 'Becky' was too? haha.. I guess like anyone people have different experiences with the eyelash extensions however i am very happy and so are my friends which have them done at the same place...So long as you use an oil free make up remover you will be good to go. I do have to admit though dxbnewbie is right i did notice some of my own lashes fall off on occasions.

And they're now suing the owners and the organisers. I feel sad for the poodle, it was a horrible incident. But I don't think the Staffi should be punished for other people negligence. I will probably get shot down for saying this but surely the fact this 'killer' dog is in the muncipility pound pending an investigation should be some comfort to the family of the poodle, no doubt the staff will end up being put to sleep which i dont agree with. A friend witnessed the whole incident who actually said the poodle came up behind the staff and started the attack. I am not sure suing the owners of the staff and the organisers is the way to go. Why not instead recommend some measures like certain breeds should be muzzled in light of this event taking place. There were lots of dangerous looking dogs there but most of them were very tame and i saw children hugging a few of them under supervision All that will happen is the pet show will get cancelled next year for everyone which would be a real shame as it is something a lot of us look forward to every year. edited by Bracey777 on 06/02/2012

Sounds like a fraudulent transaction either at the bank level or Etisalat - which means an employee would have to be involved from either venue - pursue this diligently with the bank. The bank and/or Etisalat are responsible for ensuring the transaction was legitimate - if you don't get satisfaction within a week, report it to the central bank- there is a link on their website. Dubai wants to be a financial hub for the region, the central bank will follow up on complaints promptly edited by marycatherine on 05/02/2012 I agree I work in a bank and they should look into this straight away for you..... edited by Bracey777 on 05/02/2012

sorry cant help with the training but i did visit them a while ago with my dog and i have to say i was less than impressed. We had an appointment and were kept waiting for half an hour, it was very disorganised....they charge a fee for them to 'assess' your dog and all they told me was my dog was great with other dogs, very friendly and responded well to food all for AED 250!!!! Well i could have told them that before we started. After this i wasn't inclined to try any of their services.... theve told me this is 100aed and includes time in the park too so don't mind on this basis. Will see what happens! AED 100 is better i guess but i honestly felt cheated afterwards....the guy before me wasnt impressed either and left without paying... I was disappointed with the dog park as well. Maybe i just expected too much..... hope you have a better experience than me

Hello, We are considering a move to JVT and am looking for some information and any advice on whether to do it. - Can you get connected to the internet okay?? - Can you order a taxi (and it arrive) - Does it look like things are progessing with finishing things off (from an outsider I would say yes - but are they just moving things arrive) - What problems have people encountered living there? Sorry for the inquistion but I really don't know whether to proceed??? Thanks Hi - JVC and JVT are completely different and on opposite sides of the road. I live in JVT it is very easy to get internet connected, taxi's are relatively good apart from on a Thursday evening when you need to book well in advance. Recently JVT has been worked on a lot and they appear to be building a park near my villa....lots more villas have been released. We are very happy there and the neighbourhood is very friendly. However just be careful which street you move into. Due to the large gardens it means there are lots of dogs. I have a dog too but luckily he is not a barker.....some of the dogs bark a lot...other than that i really love JVT. Hope this helps. There are a few threads on JVT on EW so try searching if you need anymore info... hope this helps
