Hi Ladies - i have had a look at them and the brushes look exactly like my MAC ones which i bought from the shop. The eyeshadow pallet seems like an awesome deal....given the eyeshadows are 80DHS each from the MAC shop.

Hi - we had exactly the same problem when we brought our dog home. The cats hid upstairs (one stayed under the bed for about a week) and the other cat was more interested in the Dog. Over time (3-4 months) they all got used to each other. The cats slowly gained confidence with the dog and came downstairs and hid on the sofas at first. Now they are all fine together and go outside together. One of my cats actually plays with my dog and sleeps in the same room as him at bedtime. Time is key and also dont force the cat and dog together in their own time they will do it.

yes the fake grass is fab, our neighbours have it and it looks so great all year around. I would just take care which street you decide to move into. The big gardens means dogs. I have a dog myself but he doesnt bark however when i walk him i sometimes wake up a whole street because one dog starts barking then they all do. Some of the streets have a dog in every house. Although i love animals i would not like to live next to a dog who barks non stop.

Hi Americanfamily - The dewa rates in JVT are between 500-1800. 1800 being the most expensive bull we have ever had in the height of summer. At the moment our bills are about 500 however there is no housing fee showing on our bills yet. As the gardens are so big i think it also depends on how much grass you have as well. We have a corner plot and have grassed just the back bit outside the double doors and the rest is gravel. Hope this helps

I LOVE Pai Thai at Al Qasr, amazing. I think they won an award for best Thai Restaurant in Dubai last year. Another great one is Thiptara at the Palace hotel. Amamzing views of the fountains. I am sure there are vouchers for both in the fine dining books. Oh i forgot about Thiptara it is amazing and very romantic

There is a Thai Restuarant in the Westin which does great food. I think it is in the Fine Dining entertainer. My favourite one though is in The Holiday Inn, Al Barsha. The food is amazing, service is great and it is really reasonable. I think it is called The Royal Buddha.

It is always difficult to have visitors especially when they are staying with you. We had 15 or so family members over in November for our wedding and whilst some days I was ready to throttle certain people (my BIL!!!!) I kept my cool. We don’t have children but my SIL does so we gladly spent a few nights taking care of the boys whilst they enjoyed some nights out in Dubai. I honestly don’t think it is worth falling out with them and letting them leave with bad feeling. Presumably you invited/allowed them to stay with you. You also seem upset they don’t have to lift a finger in the house and I get the impression from your post they don’t seem very thankful. I do think they tried to offer a solution by getting a babysitter in from an agency and you may have come across like you were being difficult. I understand you’re exhausted from looking after a sick child and they are not your friends but your husbands however I would probably be inclined to contact them and clear the air. edited by Bracey777 on 17/01/2012

Hi Bracey777, congratulations on your wedding. That would be great if you could pass on the details of your hairdresser and make-up artist. The sooner I have everything booked, the sooner I can relax and look forward to the wedding. I hadn't really considered how difficult it would be organising the whole wedding from another country. We arrive in Dubai 18 days before the wedding so hopefully that'll be enough time to tie up loose ends and finalise things. x hi can you post your email and i will send you the info - thanks

TBH, if they are going out in the evening, am presuming that the children will be in bed - is it really such a hardship to keep an eye on them if you are in the house anyway? Sorry i really don't get the issue you have in doing this. I have to agree with Izzy as well i dont see the issue if you are at home anyway and the kids are in bed. They offered to get a babysitter because you didnt want to babysit and you weren't happy with a stranger being in the house so there didn't appear to be a solution to them having a night out

We pay 85k and 3 cheques but we were lucky as thE ll had a couple empty when we were looking. My friends live here too and pay between 90 to 100k. The ll put the grass and gravel and some trees in for us but we love gardening so have built the garden up ourselves....there is a garden souq near dragon mart which is very cheap. I think the ll paid about 10k to do the grass gravel and some trees but I think you may be able to get a cheaper deal. We have a corner plot so the garden is very big.

Hi I just got married here in November. I had a great Scottish hairdresser who did an amazing job and a great make up artist. They were both a great price especially the make up artist who was the best I found and the cheapest. For the make up I paid 1300 I think for make up for myself and three bridesmaids. The make up artist was Russian and amazing. For the hair I paid 1000 for myself and 5 bridesmaids x let me know if you want the contact details and I can post my email x

Hi we have a small grassed area outside the back double doors. Our dewa bills are between about 800-2000. 2000 being in the height of the summer. I personally prefer AstroTurf and think it looks better. Hope this helps

We haven't bought here but are really tempted. We rent at Jvt at the moment and love it. They are working on the development all the time now so hopefully it will be finished...the gardens are fantastic and the villas apparently come with planning permission to build an extension. X

It is my DH 30th as well this month. I am throwing a party for him on Friday evening. I have arranged some caterers to come in and supply chinese food (which is his favourite) and have used another company who do cakes to make his birthday cake and desserts. We have a very big garden so it will be great especially at this time of the year. I did our engagement party in a similar way and it was fab. I have invited all our friends to come.

Are ticks most likely to hide on a dogs paws? I have a very hairy dog so if they are anywhere else i would be unlikely to find them...might get frontline on the weekend as a precaution.

Use PifPaf powder, they walk through it and take it back to the nest and it kills them all. What I found really good was the automatic air freshner, PifPaf do a refill for it that kills bugs - works a treat, you can buy it in any supermarket. I had the same problem ants were everywhere in my kitchen. I tried everything but the thing which worked as Chocs01 has said was the automatic air freshner which kills bugs. They are yet to return....

the springs is just as close to the pylons the difference being there are trees there which hide them! Not all of Jvt is close to pylons I'm in district 4 and no pylon in sight. They will hopefully rise in value it is being worked on everyday and the villas are amazing...I think you friend is in the circle and this area has changed a lot in 6 months from what I can see when I'm driving home. Like any area once completed it will rise in value. edited by Bracey777 on 17/12/2011

No they are technically not allowed but i have brought him now for 1 year, and police have driven by all the time and not said anything nor have i had a complaint. I see ppl camp there with their dogs etc. it depends what time you go and if your dogs are good when you call them back etc etc. We have been lucky so far (touch wood), plus my dog isnt too big so most ppl arent scared, tho i met a guy who had brought his 5 pitbulls..... no one said anything... maybe i will give it a go one early morning and see what happens......sorry to hijack your thread GirlAnachronism

Thanks redz, do you remember how much it was? and where is tavola? It was around 75 dirhams for the house and I think the tree was around 60 dhs - don't hold me to that though, ha. I got the gingerbread house in the Tavola in Mirdif City Centre Mall - 1st floor down the C4 end. There's a few Tavola's around Dubai - one on Beach Rd near the McDonald's (Jumeira 1 I think) and one in Mercato. There are other branches, but I'm not entirely sure where. There is a Travola in Mall of the Emirates too..

We love huskies, but have always thought they would be the wrong dog for here due the heat - can you do anything re trimming their fur to make it more beareable? What will happen to these pups?? someone once told me that husky dogs fur is so thick it keeps them warm but also shields them from the sun...not sure if this is true. The other issue with Husky dogs is you cant shave their fur it is very bad for them...i only talk from experience with my dog he hates the sun in the summer months although a couple of days ago i did catch him having a cheeky sunbathe on the sunlounger....but this temperature only lasts for a few months here. Husky's are amazing dogs i hope someone can help these pups x
