Oh dear! these kind of experiences really do make me scared for my 2 yr old son who will soon be going for school assessments. Any which ways I find school assessments to be so very anxiety ridden affair for parents.

thanks for sharing this info...could I pls ask when did you get your kid assessed. My son has just turned 2 and the nursery counsellor where we took him advised abt him being mildly autistic with speech delays. Should I take him to experts right away for assessment? or is it too soon?

Took my parents to Switzerland this March to celebrate my son's first bday... third visit but still Interlaken and Lucerne hasn't lost its charm....You can have a day trip including both actually if you are driving. One new place we discovered as per a swiss friends recommendation was Colmar... across french border...beautiful , rustic town, takes you back centuries...its 2 hr drive away from Zurich...so was day trip....had our lunch there and back... worth a google.

Mall play areas are the only saving grace ...my son is full of energy and no where to go...so every other day venture out to the play areas or just let him run in the malls....better than sweltering heat outside...

Thanks HorizonMum. My question is on this step [b'>Once your parents enter the country with the entry visa, you must convert it to a residency visa no later than 60 days from the date of entry[/b'> Will my parents need to exit the country to have it converted to a Residency? Thanks, AS edited by aa5207 on 08/06/2014 No they dont need to exit...I did the process last year , parents were on visit visa and whilst here got the residency visa done....

Its never to late to start family if your support system is robust! I just had my first biological baby last year at 38 years of age....my friend had hers last year at 43 years of age! And energy wise I dont see any difference between both of us....which is a shame for me!! LOL. She is as involved with her toddler or more so than I am as she is SAHM and I work full time...however I have my Mum there to help me besides a wonderful maid who wants to now become full time nanny for my son.... But yes, when I see my frnds kids graduating from school, going to college etc I do feel a BIG huge gap and at times wonder how health wise i will feel 10 yrs from now....

Uff I could really go on and on about this.... nannies leaving their kids...kids running around with cyclists dodging them, kids trying to get across the fence in to the lake, kids putting all sorts of rubbish in their mouths., kids squirting water at cats, irritating dogs on leash....list goes on an on. I have been in to situation where the 5 year oldish bunch of kids were harassing a cat and upon asking the nanny to mind them she goes to fetch her fuming madam who starts screaming as to how dare I reprimand....go figure!!! rant over :)

Its a bit of a drive from Mirdiff but can't stop praising Dr.Dieter from Blue Oasis who has been god sent for my 3 rescue pups...to the point he suggests non invasive approaches which is tedious to maintain but much easier for the pooch. My GSD has bad , damaged legs but he is 11 yrs old and Dr.Dieter has managed his pain and condition with out a single surgery.... My rescued belgian sheperds' skin boil was treated and diagnosed well too....

We adopted 8 years back, with home study signed off my CARA representative based here in Dubai, Mrs.Omana Menon. Once she authenticated and notarised the documents from Indian consulate here, we had to submit our adoption document folder to Orphanages back home to be considered for adoption. We adopted from New Delhi, were on waiting list for 2 months till we were offered. Finally we had to relax our own requirement from a baby to toddler and we got approval for 2.5 year old girl child who is now our daughter. From start of paper work till we got our DD home, it was an year and half long process.

Being Indian and having adopted from India but being resident of Dubai I can say it was an year long process but well worth it. For us we have a representative assigned by Govt of India to process and validate home studies etc from here... you may wish to meet Omna Mennon and she will guide you through...all details can be found on CARA website which has option for foreigners adopting from India too.

Your back up files on icloud is heavy takiing space. Reduce items saved...check if multiple modes(ipod, ipad, iphone, photo streams) are using same icloud for back up. Reduce the items and you will be good to go.

Thanks to all the ladies who have taken time to share. @angela really kind of you to share your thought too... we did have a baby last year...he is 14 months old now. But plan to send DD has been in progress well before that. It's the life skills that we need her to build on, to learn to be independent as here she really takes things for granted. Academically she is going in for British curriculum , which is same that she has in Dubai. It's just trying to mould her in to a strong , independent woman. Working full time her extra curricular activities were also limited but this boarding school has got a huge list of things to be ticked off. Since her visit to the boarding school for registration, she has been upbeat and excited. She is 12 years old....knows the need and was just wondering how would she take it 10 years down the line.... Just ranting .....coz I guess I am going to be missing her more than her missing me......

I can very well imagine your dilemma...have been suffering from PCOS for more than 12 years now. Have been on glucophage off and on....and thinning hair is side effect of PCOS actually, which is also known as male pattern baldness. One thing thats helping me is having multi vit and pills for hair/nail care...Perfectil. I get hair mask treatment every two weeks and somehow my balding is under control and so is hair loss.

I am an Indian National with a Dubai issued license....have been driving in UK, Scotland, Europe for more than a decade now...with rentals never a problem. Always book with Hertz international desk here .... Only thing which was a lil different earlier on was that insurance premium was a lil high wen my license was less than a year old.

Really surprises me with few responses...how easy it is to opt for putting a pet down for safety of a child.... with out giving it a thought about working on the issue... could we say the same thing about a child who is differently abled, with aggression issues? If we can always monitor our kids not being left alone with pets why does it need to be the only option to put the pets or as I call them "fur babies" to sleep? Dubai pet owners really make me question about humane treatment of animals.....

Its a tough situation when we have kids and babies in the picture... our once rescued belgian shepherd had nipped my newly adopted daughter(8 yrs back), we thought of immediately putting the fur baby away...but thanks to a dear friends who is an animal behaviourist we were able to pull the furb baby back from her vicious streak. Now we have a baby(boddler) at home...the once vicious one is so gentle with him. Having said that..we NEVER leave the fur babies( 3 rescued) with the baby alone even for a second. Babies/kids are unpredictable too as pets...so why leave a window for an accident. In my opinion killing a pet for one mistake which could be rectified is completely inhumane....

Call 800900 and ask for the Veterinarian Dept. to lodge an animal cruelty complaint. It's illegal to keep animals in outside enclosures without an Air con and especially if the animal is malnourished. will do...hopefully the poor pets will not be put to sleep...

I know these kind of queries have been voiced one a plenty so please do share your experience. Around our place, there are 2 residents who have made shelters in their gardens for their dogs... one is a GSD pup and another one is a fully grown GSD. I checked and there isn't any air conditioning arrangements ( both ). 2 days back the fully grown GSD ran out of his enclosure, lost on our street where my DH and another kind neighbour had to put him on leash( very frndly GSD) and the dog guided them back to his home. The dog was malnourished, fur comign out in clumps... he was asked abt such condition, he shirked and went inside. The second GSD pup...have always been on rounds to see him locked in the enclosure, with no humans around so that I could go and talk to the owners... Summer is just around the corner...now that I have seen the two gsd's I want to go and talk to the owners for their good....but do you think it will help?? IT's springs community...

If I could, I would have hugged your DD to comfort her as I have been through similar situation where my IUI didnt work followed by embryo getting rejected so IVF failed. It was 6 years of living nitemare where every nite I would cry myself to sleep till we adopted. Got so busy with our little toddler that forgot about fertility... she turned 11 last year and we found out I was pregnant! 14 years of marriage and thousands spent on treatment...screwing up my hormones with injections and wat not. Now I have a miracle in my home...my lil son turned 1 this March...miracles do happen, pls have faith. This baby was a complete shock and surprise ..for Indians getting pregnant at 37 years of age is not very common! Hope she takes time off all treatments, focusses on detoxing... as it helped me fall pregnant naturally I guess....warm hugs to your family Joyce...

Mortgage worked out well with us...we started with Tamweel but moved to Standard Chartered as they had competitive rates to offer. Do make it very clear upfront with the banks to give you a correct estimate of all the hidden costs involved in the process like evaluation fees etc.

Sending loads of positive energy to all going through initial stages of pregnancy. My baby boy is 8 months old now but not a single day passes by when I cant reflect about the nightmarish first few months I had... but it all settles down by week 20.... all symptoms of mine just waned off to the point that in my working career of 15 yrs....my lowest sick rate was during my pregnancy! Week 8 till 12 were the toughest with feeling of morning sickness through the day...with barf bags tucked in every corner at home, work, car..... Severe acidity...lived on Perrier water and active for a month.... But post 12 weeks...all symptoms just stopped! and then the pregnancy glow came around...best skin, best hair....no mood swings... just hang in there ladies...best is around the corner....

Felt so so guilty for walking in and picking him up..... want to be stronger .....JUST FAILED!! Now down to cutting his nap times during the day.... Crankiness owing to teething is adding to the mess!

Oh dear...poor you... it seems just yesterday I was puking my guts out the entire day...at home, at work, during my work drive....barf bags were my best mates! I was prescribed pills for sickness...but at times those also never worked and used to barf away. However, it's good sign for sure as it showed hormones were raging a healthy war. One thing that helped me was to never keep my stomach empty...just nibble on fruits or crackers, or dry toast was a life saver...I used to get up in the middle of the night with waves of nausea and grab a dry toast....Perrier water kept me going thru and thru... Pls drink loads of fluids and rest easy baby is well cushioned. I have a bonny baby boy all of 4 months a happy proof....

I delivered at Medcare this March( c-section) Following was provided: Mother: Toileteries(shampoo, lotion, conditioner);disposable panties, hospital grade sanitary pads Baby: baby swaddling cloth, hospi blankie I packed my own toileteries, along with lil makeup as I expected loads of visitors;hospi panties were easy to wear and discard so didnt get to use my own panties, hospital pads were fabulous and they gave me loads to take home too; I had to ask my husband to get some breast pads as I had started leaking very badly from day 2, once the baby latched properly. For Baby, being a fusspot... I had asked nurses in surgery to take my washed and clean swaddling cloth which we got for the baby and our blanket for swaddelling too. Camera( still and movie), phone charger, and eye patch if possible to sleep well.... Pls do sleep as much as you can whilst in the hospital as it will be the last time you will sleep uninterrupted for next 5 yrs or so! I dont think taking a vase would help as my docs didnt allow any flowers inside the room...they were all stacked up outside in the corridor. The cafe downstairs is not that great for small treats, so you can take some munchies( for me it was apples that settled my post natal cravings) A set of clothes to go home in( comfy and photogenic)...loads of pics will be clicked of homecoming , so you better look wow! i had to take 5 sets of onesies for bub as I was in hospital for 3 nights..kept a set extra, nappies( stage 1),burp cloth, muslin and cotton to keep your bbs face clean, nappy cream( i gave it to the nurses to ensure he had the cream on his bum from day one to avoid rashes),fragrance free wipes....

Maybe as Gulf News reaches out to more sub-continent readers than others they chose to use such good vocabulary! Not to miss this article is about a fellow language speaker...
