We had this happen to us around 3 years ago! What happened with our landlord is our rent was in with the price. Do not hand over any cheques unless you have the one's from your old landlord in your hand! The contract has to stay the same. He is taking it over with tenants with a certain contract so that is that really! Our new landlord wanted to move in after our contract had expired, which legally he was able to do. We found somewhere else we wanted to live so instead of waiting it out we just asked him for 3 months rent refund and we would move. He happily did that.

I was once walking home from a friend's house in Arabian Ranches at 1.30am when I came upon a young Swedish woman (with a large suitcase) who was visiting her big sister for the first time in Dubai. She had gotten a pink taxi from the airport and asked to be dropped at her sister's home, giving the address which was in Al Reem. The driver didn't know where Al Reem was so had taken her to Saheel (the total opposite end of the Ranches) and dropped her there telling her she should be able to find it. It was the middle of the night and the poor girl was scared, wandering aimlessly and didn't know what to do as her phone wasn't letting her call on the UAE network. She kept on saying that her sister said she would be safe in a pink taxi. I was appalled, what sort of person, let alone another woman, drops a young woman in the middle of the night in an unfamiliar area because she can't be bothered checking a map or calling for directions. She didn't even let the young woman use her phone to call her sister for directions. that is absolutely disgraceful and unforgivable!! She should have been reported!!

I think JVT in particular is becoming very popular. People who are used to apartments like the extra space and garden offered in the townhouses. People who can afford the detached villas are paying Springs prices to get a massive detached villa with a huge garden...lots of space, fitted kitchens etc. The two bed townhouses are virtually impossible to rent now they're so popular. The location is good with easy access to SZR and EK road. No shops, gyms or amenities but I think people are willing to put up with that because of the positives I don't see apartment prices changing that much, but you're right that JVT villas will continue to increase due to the factors mentioned above. We're leaving soon and I must say I can't wait, but I might be one of the only people who doesn't like JVT :) We lived in JVT for over 2 years. We left an apartment for a villa, lovely garden and the promise that it would be finished by 2012!!! We left this year and couldn't wait! I found it really depressing going in every day to a building site. The problems a lot of people experience with the villa's are unbelievable as well! Nakheel are useless and really don't care!! We don't regret going, we had some lovely neighbours and some good times. Lots of people loved and still love it, we just didn't. I do wonder though why the rents are going up because the quality isn't good at all!

I have been in Dubai for a fair no of years and used many many taxis but the absolute worst experience was a Filipina in a Pink taxi from the airport to home and she was just so full of anger and venom at seven in the am that I just asked her to drop me off halfway and preferred flagging another one with my luggage. Never felt happier to get into a stinky male driven one after that I can assure you. :) Completely disrespectful, unsafe and I can't imagine how foul her mood may have been on some poor unsuspecting customer by the time her shift ended. Avoid pink taxis!! Only ever had one Pink taxi and I swore never again!! She went down a road in the wrong direction, she didn't indicate, she was going far to slow for it to be safe! Could not wait to get out!! Terrible driver What gets me about some of the drivers that get a phone call, I ask them to either pull over to answer or not answer at all (unless they have hands free) while I am in the taxi, they get really grumpy with me!! I tell them what they are doing is against the law and I will report them!!

I cannot abide people being late!! I arranged with a real estate company to meet at the apartment i was just about to hand over (for a colleague) to do the inventory. We arranged to meet at 9am. I was there for 8.45 by 9.10 I called and asked why he wasn't there as I had a meeting to go to and my day was full. He promised he would be there in 5 mins, 4 phone calls and a lot of arguing he finally showed up at 9.40! I had a journey of over 30 mins to get there, he came from an office 5 mins walk away! I was fuming! Not only that they expected me to hang around in their office! I got a phone call and told them I was off! I took the keys with me. I told them my time was important and I would be invoicing them for the time they have wasted! How disrespectful can people be!!

There are lots of typing centres around and I think they more or less cost the same! My husband took our landlord to RERA, the only documents he brought with him were the emails to and from the landlord, they did not have to be translated into Arabic. The proceedings were in English and my husband did not need a lawyer. Your case maybe different to ours though. I would if I were you, either phone RERA or go down and have a word with someone and ask them to explain the procedure and what it is you need to do. We found they were very helpful indeed.

We did last year. We were having visitors out and wanted to take them somewhere really nice. There was a 2-4-1 offer in the Essential Plus so we used that. We have the family entertainer book so there was nothing we could use out of that. It was worth it just for that meal. We are going to upgrade again soon. It is very worth it if you are going to use it of course :D You get an extra little booklet with it as well with offers. Hope that helps :)

You can purchase a ticket with emirates but you need to go to their office, you cannot do it online. My DH has done it a few times. I can't remember exactly what information he needed but, to be on the safe side take passport number, name, dob etc..

It is illegal to hold anyone's passport, here though it seems to be the done thing!! Mine was held once and I reported them to the British embassy, I was told that they could write a letter but by doing so, might provoke a ban!!! So wrong, but there was nothing I could do about it! I left the company! I did work with some people that were happy about it as long as they had their employment card, that is all they cared about!

hi :) I don't live in springs but a couple of friends do and have done for the past two/three years. What I know is not all of the springs have parks or pools, so you would be best when enquiring about a property ask about the facilities. They have never had problems with noise from traffic either. Can't answer all of your questions but hope that has been of some help.

Thank you Marroosh :) This is what I have said to him. Because some guy from the company in Saudi has asked for passport copies and sent a form for them to fill in, he has not accepted that I am right. As I said, he is new and trying to prove himself. I have also just found out something that I am not happy with! I don't want this guy to mess things up or be in trouble, all I want is to get the job which will lead to bigger and better jobs if done properly and we all prosper!! I did mention as well, that i might not be able to do the visa myself and we would have to hire someone else to process it, but it seems to have landed on deaf ears. Thank you so much for your help. I will also email the links! lets just hope it all runs smoothly and everyone starts taking notice of not just what i am saying but what they are reading on official websites!

Read that and did do it Gege_BXB before he got that email through with the forms, he is believing that when they say visa it is entry to the country etc.... I was doubting what I read hence this post!! I think all I can do is send the link to everyone concerned saying this is what I found, or led to believe..and leave the powers that be to decide!! He is a nice guy and he is trying hard but sometimes it is like, I have been here 5 years and have learnt a lot through trial and error, he has been here 5 months and now after everything I have helped him with, he is doing what he can to make me look as though I am in the wrong :( Oh well! My job is just whenever I am needed, it doesn't put any bread on the table and i certainly don't have to prove myself. Thank you guys :D Am going to send the email now with the link again and let them decide *sigh* edited by Berniea on 26/07/2012

Thank you cakes, that is exactly what I thought, but he says no. He has even forwarded the email from the company about the visa's to the UK office. I don't know if I am right here but I am thinking maybe they are giving permission for them to go on sight without any problems (they are in the construction business) not visa's to get into the country! I really don't know how to deal with this without saying you are wrong! He is new to the company and trying to prove himself, which i understand, but I did try and explain a few days ago that i did believe it couldn't be done from Saudi!! Difficult situation :(

I have a Samsung here and I love it. It has a button you can press for anti-crease so when it stops drying it will carry on tumbling the clothes every so often to prevent creases so easier to iron :) Never got on with a combi, I just don't feel they dry stuff anywhere near as good or quick as a separate drier!

Well, I put 3 big thick bath towels in and two hand towels this morning for an hour and they are dry. The one I have, I don't have to use any particular setting, I can just put it on for however long I think it will take. I did see that the cotton setting was a stupid amount of time so I don't use it!

I have one and it is great!! I really do recommend getting one. Wouldn't be without mine :D It collects the water and you empty it after every dry is best. Clean the fluff out as well. This is the second one I have had here and by far the better. They come out as dry as you want them. The one I have now has a timer on it, different types of material and even something to put your trainers on so they don't get chucked around the drum :)

I am packing my kitchen up myself though and my clothes although the quote included them doing this for me!!! . I thought that was a very good price. It was with TMS (Total Moving and Storage) The will also unpack.

I am afraid i am one of those people who do speak out! It is not me being rude, it is those that think everyone that has been queuing for the past however long do not matter! I have opened my mouth more than once (not just for me) when someone has jumped the queue, and I will keep it open until the wrong has been put right!!! I have been rather loud in the past, and i have said.. excuse me don't know if you noticed but there IS a queue here, you need to go back there behind all these people that have been here for a while! And I will carry on doing so, rightly or wrongly! Does that make me a bad person :(

Two bed apartment and wanted to do it in two days! They left my stuff lying around outside for hours because the van which wasn't a van didn't turn up! I certainly would never use them again, ever! I haven't had it done but DH did last year. Can't remember where. He has worn glasses since he was a tot so decided to try it. He is very happy with it although he did pay a bit extra so he wouldn't need to wear glasses for reading etc..that didn't work, although he doesn't need prescription glasses. I don't know about the risks but when he had it done, he was in pain and had to keep putting false tears in his eyes and another set of drops. The paid did completely go after a day or so He also had to wear a contact for a week in one eye. I asked him if he would recommend getting it done to anyone and he said yes. My friend got hers done and she is also very happy. Again, don't know who with. Hope that is of some help!

British person answering the phone, coming out to do a quote. local moves only. it says [email protected] ( I don't know or work for them) I am also needing a removals for the end of July, tried to contact these and no joy. The email came back and their website (found it on yellow pages) did not seem to exist anymore! it was too late to call them so don't know about their telephone number.

We had the same thing happen to us around 3 years ago. According to RERA, if a LL states that it is for personal use, you don't have a leg to stand on, but, they cannot rent that property out for a year. if they wish to do so they have to give you first refusal at your present rent. When we informed our LL of that, he came back to us a week later asking if we wanted to stay. I had by that time found a better apartment in the next building for 30000 aed cheaper!!!! Good Luck

We bought a groupon/cabone offer thing last year and just didn't have the time when it was cooler, we went in August and had a great time. Cool breeze and seen loads of dolphins, did snorkelling for the first time ever and it was so worth it, the other people on the dhow were really nice and the crew were so knowledgeable and friendly. We drove there and stayed at the Tulip inn overnight then did our full day trip the day after. You will have a great time I am sure :D

If we have wanted to download we have been advised to use the Dutch VPN as they don't mind people doing that. We did buy a desktop though so it is permanently attached to the tv
