Hello I am a UK registered nurse with 5 years critical care experience, I have recently been offered a senior post at American hospital? Has anyone worked there or anyone working there at present? I am a bit cautious of these clauses in the contract re. Competition clause and tying you in for 2 years at least, I also was not really aware the hospitals worked 48hrs! Any advice would or shared experience would be appreciated. This thread is about NURSES not about most people working in Dubai !

True, I have never worked in a hospital, but 12 hour shifts is the norm for many trades, not just here, but world wide. I still cant see how its a big deal, if someone doesnt want to work that amount of hours, and the job is on offer, then they don't take the job. Black and white? Probably Edit to add, now Im a mum, and my shift hasn't ended for over 7 years Really 48 working hours a week is the norm worldwide? Not in my home country ! Some nurses unfortunately dont have the choice to refuse a job here in Dubai. Just to tell you a short story . Two days ago one of my best friend called me in tears exhausted after her third night shift ( she is a european high qualified nurse in ICU ) . Yes it is a big deal to work 48 hours per week with high risk patients during 12 hours sometimes without a break . At the top of this a lot of these nurses have young kids at home . I just want to thank all of them for their hard work . edited by Caramelle on 28/02/2013 edited by Caramelle on 28/02/2013

My own husband does at least 50 hours a week, often way over 60. Do you experience yourself 48 working hours per week ? At the hospital this means 4 shifts of 12 hours per week including week-end and night shifts in a intensive care unit . Yes it is a big deal ! edited by Caramelle on 27/02/2013

Hello Dangerous blonde, I am also 38 weeks and so tired :(. I saw you post on the other thread when you said that you were also fed up and very willing to get induced The Dangerous Blonde Posts 1743 13/12/2012 12:30:19 I've been on maternity leave for 2 weeks now and am sooo fed up and in the crankiest mood. My due date is Saturday but I am so over being pregnant and so ready to give birth. The nursery is all done, the clothes are all washed, monitor set up, car seat installed, bottles sterilized, toys assembled, I have literally run out of every small job to do. Add to that my legs ache, I'm not sleeping well, am having odd cramps and twinges, am very hormonal and at my last appointment was only 1cm dilated. Here are all the things annoying me: 1) daily calls / texts from well meaning friends and family asking if the baby has come yet and I feel like screaming NO SHE HAS NOT COME YET, you will be the first to know! 2) every single medical opinion under the sun - "are you sure an induction is safe, I read some really bad stuff". OK so am I going to listen to someone who has spent 5 mins on the internet or my Dr who has been an OBGYN for 30yrs? 3) friends laughing at me waddling or shuffling around "ah look at you" - yes I am glad it is amusing that you're a size 6 and I'm massive, thanks for making me feel like sh*t 4) "have you tried s*x / curry / pineapple / raspberry tea / walking" - yes I have tried ALL those things and still nothing 5) "She will come when she is good and ready", "relax" - no I can't relax, I'm exhausted and fed up 6) "Sleep now, you will need it later" - yes, because we can store up sleep can't we, not that I can sleep anyway I don;t know why I am writing this, just so fed up Are you regreting your decision to be induced ? Because I believe that you are now blaming your ob, I would like to have advices as I am in the same situation now :((( Who was your doctor ? TIA

Just cancel her visa at the end of the contract . Then she can stay 30 more days on visit visa until she will find a new sponsor .You will get a cancellation letter from the immigration and will be no more responsible of her . If she doesnt find a new sponsor within these 30 days then she will have to exit .

Hi All, My kid will go to GEMS SO this fall. He will be in FS1. We dont live in SO and we were hoping to use the school buses. However it looks like the company taking care of the commuting will not accept FS1 kids. This seems to be a common rule applicable to many transportation companies in Dubai. Do you ladies have other alternative plans to the school bus (except driving and picking up your kids yourself as the school timing for FS1 is really difficult for those who work until 5PM..)? I would really appreciate any advices... Thank you in advance. Cheers.

Dear Pixie2011 I hope this can help . Good luck !!! Can you have a natural birth after having two or more c-sections?Improve In: Pregnancy, Labor and Birth, C-section [Edit categories'> Michael Fakih MD/UAE-IVF www.fakihivf.com Over 10000 IVF babies delivered USA certified experts +97143497600 Sunflower Medical Ltd www.sunflowermedical.co.uk Couches Trolleys Seating Cabinets UK manufacturer, NHS approved AdsAnswers.com > Wiki Answers > Categories > Health > Sexual and Family Health > Pregnancy > Can you have a natural birth after having two or more c-sections? Answer: Improve Yes, you can, but it is something you should discuss with your obstetrician. First, you have to consider the reasons for the previous cesarian sections. If they were one time problems (breech presentation, placenta previa), then a vaginal birth is something to consider. If your previous cesarians were done for obstructed labor, a small pelvis, "CPD," dysfunctional labor, or other conditions which are likely to recur, it may not be a good idea. A uterus with a scar on it is much more likely to rupture (burst open) during labor, and this can cause fetal distress or death. However, even there is a less than 1% chance of this happening, it is still a possibility, and one with potentially catastrophic consequences. The type of scar is important. If you wish to attempt VBAC, you will want to make sure your previous surgeries were done with low-transverse incisions on the uterus. You cannot tell what sort of incision you had by looking at the scar on your belly--you need to consult the operative record or ask the doctor who performed it. A previous low transverse uterine incision does not cut into the body of the uterus, and is least like to rupture. A vertical, low vertical, or "classical" incision, which goes up and down on the uterus, and is performed for complicated presentation (transverse), prematurity (undeveloped lower uterine segment), unusual blood vessels, or scarring and/or adhesions from previous surgery, is much more likely to rupture, and is a contraindication to labor. Mind you, cesarean section also holds risks for the mother and baby. It is major abdominal surgery and has a maternal mortality rate 2 to 4 times that of vaginal birth. Cesarean births can lead to trouble bonding and breastfeeding. But, when compared to VBAC, the risks of maternal morbidity and mortality are similar. Most doctors will not induce someone with two previous cesarians (because of an even higher risk of rupture than natural labor), but will allow labor to proceed naturally in a hospital setting. If you wish to try and deliver vaginally after two cesarian sections, this should be done in a hospital (not birthing center) that can perform an immediate cesarian section in case of an emergency. If you've delivered vaginally prior to your cesarian section, this would increase the likelihood of a successful VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarian).

lec299 replied : I know this sounds very silly, but I wondered if anyone could give me an idea of the way it will work - do you have your own room throughout? Is there ensuite? Can my husband stay with me - or will he need to head home every night? will there be a team of midwifes, with my doctor arriving at the last minute to deliver (I plan for natural birth, fingers crossed!) Do you think they'll be happy with my birth plan to have epidural on arrival? (I know this isn't always granted in the UK) and whether I may be allowed to lie in the bath in the bathroom (if ensuites exist) for a while during labour - something I have read is really beneficial? Will baby stay with me in room after birth? (assuming he/she is doing well). Is it possible to have an epidural and to lie in a bath at the same time ? edited by Caramelle on 05/11/2011

DubaiGirl11 replied : On the day of my csection (breech presentation of baby, scheduled for 2pm), I had high fever and upset stomach. I arrived at the hospital at 7 am and nurses contacted Dr Elsa. She sent a nurse to give prescription medication, and arrived herself in 15 minutes to calm me down. All went well. I had spinal. at 2:15pm I was in the room; and at 2:33pm the baby was born. Next morning at 5am, I was walking and by the evening all of my functions were normal. Now it is 1 month. The incision healed well. Congratulations ! I couldnt have an epidural/spinal a few years ago in Europe as I had high fever during my labour . The Anesthesiologist told me he couldnt do the procedure because of the rik of infection . The "medical rules " seem to be different in Dubai ! I am curious as I will deliver in a couple of weeks for the fist time here !!!

SweetLily replied : Just to let you know, Doulas are now no longer allowed to be in the labour room at City Hospital so if you want a doula you will need to go to another hospital.... as far as I know there are no issues with having doulas anywhere else and many OB's see the benefits of having one, especially during labour. I was told that a doula did a vaginal examination on a lady in labour . This is so scary ! Does anybody has more information ?! I am 28 weeKs pregnant with my follow up done at City Hospital and so disapointed if I have to deliver there without a doula ...

Hi there, I have a 3Y old french boy who currently goes to an English nursery. We are thinking however about enrolling him to a English primary school when he turns 4 next year. I have heard about schools like Repton or Wellington School. I do not quite however understand the difference between the various curriculums that they propose. Do those programs include second foreign languages ? TIA .

kiwispiers replied : From a developmental point of view she would be much much better with you, and if not with you, she would be much better with a full-time, one-on-one nanny for at least the next year, research has backed that up. I work part time and my 2 kids ( 3 and 1 year old ) go to the nursery daily and enjoy it . I have a full time maid living in . I dont share the point of view of Kiwispiers as most of the families have a maid/nanny and not a proper qualified nanny . edited by Caramelle on 09/10/2011
