Bumping for Jessie the dog. Unless you personally know the poster and her circumstances, please don't judge her harshly, who knows why she is leaving and where she is going to. Sometimes life throws you a cr@ppy curve ball that you just cannot avoid. She has been trying to rehome this dog for a while, she could just have locked it in the house as she left, let it loose in the desert or on the main road as she was driving to the airport as so many others have done. At least she is trying. Good luck in finding Jessie a home Clobel.

Maybe he's getting it elsewhere...not meant to incite/worry you unnecesarily but its been known to happen... This is so unfair. Are you trying to help her or to make her feel worse???????? Yeah, I als thought this was a really mean remark, I am sure he is not. Before you all take off on your high horses, ladies, am just offering insight from personal experience...I found out the hard way that when he wasn't interested in me, he was interested in someone/or even many ones else...men are men after all...[b'>unless they're well into their 60s[/b'>.. Sadly not even then, my mum (65) has just found out my stepdad (75) is cheating on her.... That is SAD Isn't it just?! Instead of enjoying her retirement she is getting a divorce...

Hugs to you chickychick, is there anyway you could get a weekend away just the two of you? Any family that could come and stay to look after the kids? How old is your youngest? If family or friends can't give you a break, could you coincide some sleepovers with friends for them all? And then take him away and show him what a wife you are...!! :) Will do you both the world of good.

By all means give the Dr a ring if it puts your mind at ease, but at 5 years old, she will be fine with a 6 year olds dose, especially if she is tall. The medicine does not know if a child is 5 years and 364 days old or 6 years and 1 day old... My sister's three year old is almost as tall and as heavy as her 6 year old, if anything the 6 year old should get 'younger' medicine. And before I get shot down, I know it has a lot to do with how well developed the child's organs are, but honestly, the difference between a 5+ child and a 6 year old is minimal and a one off slightly higher than average dose will not cause any major problems. If she had other health issues or was very small for her age or had managed to drink half the bottle then there may be cause for concern, but not the amount she has had. Hugs to you though, always a worry with kids.

I'm afraid I would have got my stubborn head on and stood there until they gave me my free sausage roll, lol! And if any customers came up whilst I was waiting I would have been telling them alllllll about it! Eventually they would have got so sick of my loud whinging that they would have given in, just to get rid of me! It's the principal of the matter.

I didn't have a lunch break for 5 years! You kind of get used to just taking it a little easier in the middle of the day whilst still being at your desk and eating lunch with one hand still on the keyboard. But having said that our first boss (for my first 4 years) was great and if we needed to pop out we would just tell him and it was never a problem. The last boss was a different matter, hence I left! When loads of us complained about Ramadan we were told, well if you don't like it you can always go and work somewhere else.... you can't really argue with that because I guess it's true. But no harm in trying eh?!

Actually if you're working day is longer than i think 6 hours, that the labour law states you MUST be given a one hour lunch break...... Get a copy of the LL and well, you know what to do :D Hhhhm, nice idea in theory, but sadly the chances are you will then find yourself out of a job... we tried to get our company to allow non-Muslims to work shorter hours in Ramadan (which is the law), that didn't work as [i'>some[/i'> companies are above the labour law and the authorities turn a blind eye.

Sorry to say pretty normal, when we were in Dubai, neither my husband nor I got lunch breaks (and we both worked for 'big' companys). If you took a break for some reason you had to make the time up at the beginning or end of the day. Oh, and neither of us had food provided, so in some ways you are one of the lucky ones, lol. :D

I think it's a beautiful idea to put a picture of your Mum and you on FB for Mother's Day to honour her, really lovely, and I suspect only your BIL thinks other wise, stuff him and do it anyway (and while you're at it, delete him from your contacts, that way he won't see it anway, none of his flipping business)! As for your SIL, clueless, stuff her too! Hugs to you, from one Mum who would love to throw a 'sickie' to another, I know exactly where you are coming from - have a big glass and don't forget - [i'>stuff 'em[/i'> :D !

I bought the book ages ago and just started reading it inspired by all you guys! I am starting next Tuesday as I am away for two functions this week that are unavoidable and I have been looking forward to them too and am not willing to not eat or drink at them! I have got loads of the ingredients in and tried the galettes out this evening. How easy and yummy?!!! :D They don't even taste like food you could possibly have on a diet! I am going to make a pile of them this weekend in preparation and can't wait to start now! Thanks for the proverbial kick up the you-know-where, I hope to do as well as some of you have done! :)

I moved to Dubai at the beginning of 2001 and left at the end of 2008, (with a few visits since) - what a change between the two. The Hard Rock cafe was in the middle of literally nowhere in 2001 and it seemed such a long trek to get there, haha! There was nothing much beyond the Burj al Arab really. I admire how Dubai has grown but I preferred the 'old' Dubai if I'm honest.

I'm at home and boooorrrred too, got a long list of things to do, (like cleaning the rug that I knocked a full cup of black coffee over) and just cannot be bothered, yawn. Maybe just one more cup of coffee...? Problem solved http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/7948802/art/i-robot/roomba-581-automatic-vacu.html?srcid=867&key=aEZ5ckZtaeLQII90ADIDVntOQnEKENHuHOgQNAMyMxwrI0VzboaKAYx3DzhSAnZGRnULCw== Oh, yes please, that would take care of another job I have to do... (if only I had a spare £895 lying around)!!!! Sadly though, the rug needs a proper clean with soap and water so need to get the Bissel out, boo hiss!

OP, what a horrid thing to happen, hugs to you, hope you recover soon! I definitely second / third the dog idea, but that of course is not feasible for everyone. If you have sliding doors, get poles cut to size and pop them in the tracks, that way they can't be slid open from outside. Dubai is now like any other big city, with opportunists and criminals just the same as everywhere else. Everyone needs to remember to not leave valuables in plain site, to lock car doors, house doors and windows and be aware of their surroundings. People assume Dubai is safer as they rarely hear of anything happening. Sadly that doesn't mean it isn't happening, it just isn't being reported. If you go to a brunch, how many handbags do you see left at the table with no-one else there...? You wouldn't do it anywhere else, but people do in Dubai.

VP's right, make up batches of things at the weekend, and freeze so you have healthy meals for during the week. Spag bol / stroganoff / coq au van / curry / soups / any stew type things all work well. I always dice up carrots in my spag bol, so that's an added veg, and of course mushrooms in spag bol and stroganoff... You can also roast a load of veggies and then freeze then reheat, if you feel they are a bit mushy after freezing, add a tin of tomatoes and you have a variation of ratatouille... :)

Just be quite vague with them, tell them you will 'get back to them' with information you don't really want to give them and just never do, they are not very persistent... deal with them on email rather than the phone, easier to ignore! So long as your mortgage is always paid, that's all they really want from you as far as we can tell!

We own a house and have a mortgage with Lloyd's and don't live in Dubai anymore... we have been in and out of Dubai without any problems. They know we now live in the UK, when we left we just told them we were leaving with DH's job but were likely to be returning to Dubai, we haven't done... they don't seem to care.

We have one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ON-THE-GO-BOOSTER-SEAT/dp/B0000A11ZQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1303113909&sr=8-3 can't remember where we got it from. Maybe that babyshop near Bur Juman (the one on the opposite side of the road, not the one a bit further down on the same side). It's a bit bulkier than the one you are looking for but not bad and has been brilliant, she has used it since she could sit up and at nearly 3 can still use it, although she doesn't really need one anymore.

Hiya YorkshirePud (love the name, my favourite!!), if Shep can't help and Dunight ends up bringing it to the UK, I live a couple of miles from Manchester airport and come over to Huddersfield every Wednesday to see my sister so could collect it from Dunight and bring it over to you if you don't want to trust the post. Just give me a shout! Favourite name or favourite food?? :) So many choices, such kind ladies. I will see if Shep can bring it, if my DH can meet up with her, if not I will be back to you all for plan B. Where abouts in Hudds does she live? Food, haha, but a great name too! :D My sister is is Paddock, but Mum (who also comes to Hudds on Wednesdays, we have a girly day!) lives in Bretton (you mentioned being near Barnsley way...) so would no doubt also be happy to take it her way if nearer for you! Where are you? We tend to have a little drive out somewhere so may end up coming nearer to you sometime during the day...

If you can afford it, do it! As you say, it won't fix the turbulance, but when we have travelled with our little one in business class, we have had the bulk head seats, placed blankets & a pillow on the floor and she sleeps really well there!! Although we have also been lucky a couple of times and there have been spare seats so whoever was lumbered next to us was moved and she had her own seat for free! I have a fab picture of her at 9 weeks old, all tucked up in her very own business class seat! Hope she doesn't think that's how it will always be! :D

I personally didn't wear a bikini when I was pregnant I'm not really a fan of seeing a pregnant belly either! I know it's natural and you should be proud etc. but I don't want to see it. Mind you, I keep my head down at the beach or pool anyway as there are lot's of bodies that shouldn't wear a bikini, haha... But, each to their own, if you feel okay, no matter what you look like and you aren't showing any bits that are offensive by law, then who am I to judge...? Unless you're parading about around the edge of the pool just so people can see you, wearing a white see-thru thong bikini, white stilleto high heels and have full make up on and look like you've just stepped out of the salon, in which case I shall probably point and giggle, hoping someone pushes you in...

Why wouldn't it work? Personnel (regardless of nationality) would contribute and company would match up to a certain percentage. The funds would be invested and / or put in some form of savings plan, and grow with each salary. [b'>The funds are available to personnel in an emergency, or at end of employment. The longer the plan is active the more is accrued; there would be some form of penalty for withdrawal prior to retirement.[/b'> What I am looking for is a company or organization in the GCC that could help draw up a plan, or offer alternative methods. The goal is to provide incentive for long-term employment, help personnel grow savings, etc. But most expat employees don't intend to be in the UAE until they retire and so would pay the penalty to remove their own money if they had an emergency or left... another reason I wouldn't pay in I'm afraid.

I think it's a nice idea, but just don't think it would work in the UAE. I for one one not trust any extra dirhams in a plan I didn't have[i'> full [/i'>control over. Call me cynical but I wouldn't trust it not to have disappeared when I wanted to cash it in (not specifically talking about you 49, I am sure you and your company are trustworthy, lol, but you know what I mean...).

I sit on both sides of the fence with this one but do understand where SW is coming from, even if I can't argue quite the same points she does. I love animals and hate to see any animal scared, in pain or dead. However, I am a meat eater even though I know that the animals must be scared before they die, even if that death is painless (and we know sometimes it is not...). I also love watching the Grand National, have done since I was a tiny child. I am always sad to hear of a jockey injured but they make the choice to race - However I am literally in tears when I hear one of the horses has died... I wish they could somehow make the race safer, they probably could (and no doubt will) but the GN is what it is [i'>because[/i'> of the huge fences and the danger. It would just be another race at Aintree if they alter it too much (which I am not saying is a bad thing either, not everything can or should go on forever). I used to be far more horrified about what happened and furious that these horse weren't given the choice as to whether to run or not, however I was then lucky enough to ride an ex-racehorse and after being the unwilling paricipant in a few fences that the horse decided to jump with zero encouragement from me, I realised that they LOVE what they do, it is literally in their blood and like an athlete that trains and feels a loss when they have to give up their way of life and their races when they get injured or too old, so do the horses... their is an element of conditioning to it, but if you watch how many horses continue to race in the GN after their jockey's have been thrown, you can see how much they love to be part of the pack and they love the thrill of the chase as well. If they hated it that much they would just stop... Sorry about the long post, I am not looking to change anyone's opinion or convince anyone that the GN is a good thing as it clearly isn't, people feel very strongly about it and rightly so, just wanted to throw in my opinion too... And yes, I do have some chafing from sitting so firmly on the fence... :D

Sad but true. Dubai is full of fair weather friends... I got diagnosed with depression quite a few years ago and a close friend, who I honestly thought would always be there for me (as I was for her) basically disappeared. Turns out she didn't like to associate with people 'who brought her down'. I understand in a way, I was a bit of a misery guts for a few months, but she knew I was on mediaction and therefore trying to get better (which I did without her help, thank you very much!). But to me, friends should be there through the good times and bad and I would never 'dump' a friend because they were ill. On the other hand, a friend who I thought more of an associate really, turned up trumps. The genuine friends will stay and you're better rid of the others. Good luck and hope your husband gets a fabulous job and when your old 'friends' come crawling back hoping the good times will roll again, you can tell them where to stick it.

The pictures are quite cute, and I know where the Mum is going with it in a way, but.... all I could think of whilst looking at the photos, especially the one with the umbrella was 'aw, poor child, can't even have a nap in peace without being dressed up and bizarrely posed'. But that's just me, not into that kind of thing, prefer natural photos of a child learning to feed itself with food all over it's face but with a huge smug "I can do it mummy" grin, or of a child covered in mud having jumped in a puddle for fun... those captured almost by accident.

When I first left Dubai I never came on here for months and months, then I moved again and one day decided to pop in an have a look what everyone was arguing about. Old user name didn't work anymore so had to sign up again and just never left... haha! Besides, there are so few threads that are directly connected to Dubai (i.e. where to find something) and more about morals and dilemma's etc that anyone who has an idea about life in Dubai can continue commenting. It's my guilty 'trash' entertainment, I love coming on here to see what's brewing and don't care who knows! Besides, we still have a house in Dubai, so I like to keep up with the gossip in case we ever come back! :D

Id think you would find tesco workers would have a lot more rights than workers here.I mean if the supervisor had gone with her story that poor girl could have lost her job for no reason Exactly! The Tesco's guys would laugh in your face for being so pathetic and rightly so. That's why I am so glad you spoke up, I dread to think what would have happened if the manager had been forced to take action on that silly woman's word alone. Some people make me, well, Grrrrrrr!

mmmmmmmmmm supermarket employs packer. customer pays supermarket. is customer therefore not entitled to services of packer, cos she's paying for it. No? I thought you paid the supermarket for your [i'>groceries[/i'>... a packer is an added bonus (although to be fair I pack myself as no-one packs as well as I do, haha!). Hope the poor lady never comes to the UK with her toddler, how [i'>would[/i'> she cope?! I'm in the UK, I have a toddler and I can pack my bags myself, goodness, aren't I amazing?! Perhaps I should throw a wobbler in Tesco's and see what happens, lol!! corkshelly, good on you for speaking up, a lot would have thought the same but not dared to speak up. Well you pay the supermarket for the groceries, their overheads and profits. No? anyway tesco's is easy, just do it online. No? Ah, but as someone else says, packers are 'complimentary', not guaranteed. And Yes, I do do a lot online and bless 'em, the delivery guys in my area bring the crates inside from the van and help me (and toddler!) unload onto the kitchen worktops. However, if I do go for some bits and bobs into the actual shop, then I manage to pack myself, even with toddler in tow. If toddler sits in seat, and you have two working arms and can reach the conveyor belt then you are capable of doing it yourself without a churlish meltdown. No?! Or was it you, lol, and now are trying to justify your childish paddy?! :D

I suspect the agency won't allow her to have a copy of her doc's in case she was planning on trying to leave the agency to go onto OP's sponsorship which they wouldn't like. I know she isn't but the agency wouldn't take her word for it. I thought the agency was for the babysitter she was using this weekend-and didn't refer to the maid-now I am officially confused! Wuffles you're right - the illegal one is her regular cleaning maid; the agency is the legal one she's called on for babysitting i think ;) i meant Wuffles :p edited by ashesf on 31/03/2011 Ah, now I have read and re-read OP's post you are right, I thought the cleaner was from Homemaids and she was looking for an agency babysitter! Silly Monkey!! OP.... get your cleaner from Homemaids too and save yourself AED 100 000! They are reliable and thorough and very quick! At least our girl was, could do our 3 bed villa and a huge pile of ironing in 4 hours, she was like a blur as she dashed round. Oh sigh, how I miss her...
