Once again ladies, thank you for all your support. The funeral was an emotional day for everyone as you can imagine. But quite beautiful. Everyone wore a splash of colour and the village hall afterwards was packed full with all his many friends, although there was sadness of course, there was a lot of laughter as everyone remembered the not-always-perfect little boy! Here is a link to a newspaper article about him and one of the conditions he first suffered. It doesn't go into much detail but I thought you might like to see the beautiful photo of the boy you all prayed so hard for. Dear ladies, just to let you know the poor soul passed away late Saturday night with his Mum and Dad at his side. His grandad also made it in time to say goodbye although sadly we didn't as we were still at sea and only found out of his passing on Wednesday. His funeral is on Monday so we shall be there in time for that, it shall be a good celebration of his short life. Thank you once again for all your kind words, xx

One final quick note as we leave on the ship in a few hours. Yesterday they started taking all his tubes etc out so will not be long now. He is too weak to be taken home. Thank you again for all your support, you are all very special ladies. Hugs, xx

We have had the worst news possible. The last-chance drugs have not worked and the last of his intestine has become perforated. The doctors have given him just a few days. His Dad wants to take him home, but we don't know if he will be allowed as he is possibly too sick to even make the journey home. It is unlikely we shall get there in time to even say goodbye. Please pray for strength for his Mum, Dad and little Sister to get through the next few days. Thank you all, xx

Words can't describe how lovely all you ladies are, I thank every single one of you, too many to mention individually but I really hope karma comes knocking on your doors and sprinkles you all with love and good fortune because you truly deserve it for praying for a total stranger when I am sure you all have lots going on in your lives that you need to pray for. xx Sadly I have no further news. We are getting our updates through DH's other brother so as not to keep disturbing Mum and Dad and we couldn't get hold of him last night which I hope is not a bad sign. The ship returns to the island tomorrow so we also can get on our way home on Friday. Unfortunately we will be out of contact for 5 days whilst we are at sea and possibly more depending on where we can find an internet connection in transit on land. So I will update you all as soon as I know anything. Please don't think I have just started this thread and then disappeared ungratefully into the blue as you cannot imagine how grateful I am to you all for your continued thought and prayers. I will try to update you before we leave if we can find out more which will hopefully be later today. Razzlepop, wonderful to hear, I hope a miracle can also come our way. Spudz, I am just like you, not at all religious but was also compelled to pray, thank you for trying too. Hugs to you all, xx

Thank you all again for your wonderful support. mrswhippy, I cannot imagine how hard (but brave) it was for your brother to make that awful decision. I hope he, you and all his family are finding peace in knowing he was being so very unselfish and saving the suffering of that poor little soul. Last night we heard that he is stable and the doctors are pleased with his heart rate. They are trying two last drugs in an attempt to get everything under control. It seems that your prayers are really helping his fight, please may I beg you to continue for a little while longer? Thank you from the bottom of my heart, xx

Hi CM Still sending those prayers for that miracle. Please let us know how the little fellow is doing. N XX edited by Nomad on 08/10/2012 Thank you so much for your continued prayers Nomad and to all those others still praying, he is still hanging on, hoping for a further update sometime tonight. The latest we heard was that they will make a decision on Wednesday. If the surgeons / doctors etc decide there is nothing more to be done, they will take him home to die in familiar surroundings. It's breaking my heart to think of him and his family and all their suffering and there is nothing we can do. Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers, he needs every single one of them. xx

simoralou - that's great news, if you just try one of the girls you may just fall in love!!!! And I'm going to see the Jack Russell at the weekend xx Jack Russel's by nature are yappy, snappy little things..... You've met every single one of them have you, lol...?! I have known many and some of them are, lots of them aren't, it is down to how you train them. Train them to be quiet and they will be, think they are little cute toys and treat them as sucn and yes, they will yap and snap.

My 4yo (reception class) is in a British Curriculum school (not in Dubai or the UK) and has homework every Friday, usually "Letters & Sounds" practice writing, with a matching picture to colour or "match the letters to the word picture" type thing. She also has reading to do and about 8 flash card words to practice throughout the week, so we read and go over the words every day until she can read the book on her own and knows all the words. She occasionally brings the odd picture home, but we tend to get a big bundle at the end of term. I think homework is fab, guides me as to what she is learning, although we do our own stuff over and above school work anyway.

Earlier today, the words "there's an actual love bug floating around" popped into my head. I thought that it came from Ghostbusters, but DH (and Youtube) said not. Can't find it on google. Yes, I need to get a life but this is driving me nuts. Is it this one? http://www.metrolyrics.com/fishin-in-the-dark-lyrics-garth-brooks.html GARTH BROOKS - FISHIN' IN THE DARK LYRICS Lazy yellow moon coming up tonight Shining through the trees Crickets are singing and [b'>lightning bugs Are floating on the breeze,[/b'> baby, get ready 'Cross the field where the [unverified'> turns back By the old stump road I'm gonna take you to a special place That nobody knows, baby, get ready You and me going fishin' in the dark Lying on our backs and counting the stars Where the cool grass growsDown by the river in the full moonlight We'll be falling in love in the middle of the night Just moving slowSpend the whole night through Feels so good to be with you Spring is almost over and the summer's coming The days are getting longI've waited all winter for the time to be right Just to take you along, baby, get ready And it don't matter if we sit forever And the fish don't bite We'll jump in the river and cool ourselves From the heat of the night, baby, get ready You and me going fishin' in the dark Lying on our backs and counting the stars Where the cool grass grows Down by the river in the full moonlight We'll be falling in love in the middle of the night Just moving slow Spend the whole night through Feels so good to be with you You and me going fishin' in the dark Lying on our backs and counting the stars Where the cool grass grows Down by the river in the full moonlight We'll be falling in love in the middle of the night Just moving slow Spend the whole night through Feels so good to be with you

Hi hilsbils, thanks for the info, I think we are doing that road, friends recommended it I think! I shall also mention the other places to see if they are in his plans. He did months of research, asked everyone we know who has ever been / lived in the area, got info from the ladies at the B&B we always stay at in Cape Town (it's on our commute home) and even enlisted the help of a travel agent that was recommended to us by the B&B... Thanks Louisejane as well for your suggestions, I am going to pass those on too! With all the recommendations, imolinar should be able to plan an amazing trip! I am so excited to be going on mine, just have to get through 3 weeks of duty travel first before our family time of fun, fun, fun... :)

We are doing the Garden Route in November with our 4 year old! DH planned it all with her in mind... we are doing: Cango caves, Addo, Camp Figtree, a game drive, Seaview lion park, Monkeyland and Birds of Eden, Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre, Knysna Elephant Park, Boulders and Whale watching... so up to PE inland and back down the coast. Hope that gives you a few ideas.... the weather should hopefully be pleasant but not too hot... :)

I am on myfitnesspal.com, it's free to join up and use and in my opinion, just BRILLANT! You log everything you eat and all the exercise you do and it really does help to have the figures in front of you at the end of the day. There is also an excellent forum on there and I have learnt loads of tips from reading the threads, there is always an "I need motivation / I'm at a plateau" kind of thread on the go which is very handy. There is also a fab "success story" section on the forum which is really inspiring. I have a look every day and it helps keep my focussed on my goals. Might be worth a go since it's free.

Thank you Cheeky Monkey! This is excellent. I really need to get off the pill as I have been on for a long long (really long time) but don't feel comfortable with the IUD thing. Do you know how much approx the cost? I presume it is not covered under insurance? Thanks! Hmmm, can't remember as it was a while ago and has probably gone up by now... it wasn't covered by my insurance, but then not much was haha! I am sure someone will be able to give you a price in the morning when everyone is up and about. Failing that, pick a clinic at random and ask, I'm pretty sure they will tell you over the phone. I used to get mine at GMC in the Magrudy Centre on Beach Road if that helps! :)

Yes, definitely available in Dubai and you should be able to get it done at any clinic. Although everyone reacts differently, I definitely recommend it. To be honest, I was a total witch the first month I had it done, but so glad I continued with it. No periods and hormonally stable all month! Came off it and got pregnant quickly. Am planning on going back on it very soon as my baby days are over! :)

Forgot to mention, you can also use plain old BOILING water on them too... but if you have a few, then carting a boiling kettle around several times gets a bit hot and dangerous. But I tried both methods and the boiling water worked fine too - but it has to be boiling, not cooled down at all, otherwise you are just watering them with the usual Dubai summer temperature hose-pipe water, haha!

I made my own! It works and it's cheap. I have a LO and the neighbour has dogs and cats and we don't have fences between our properties so didn't want anything nasty (although the neighbour uses some foul stuff and doesn't seem to worry about his animals, haha). Just mix salt, white vinegar and a little washing up liquid. Spray / pour over when it is sunny (haha in Dubai in September, not a problem eh?) and within a few hours they will wilt and be dead in a day or so. You can google "home-made weedkiller" and will get the recipes. You can also use lemon juice, but that obviously is more expensive unless you have a lemon tree in the garden, which we do, so will try that next time.

Yes, mine was, but it was a 10 out of 10 for effort, about 4 out of 10 for wiping success, and copious amounts of loo roll / toilet wet wipes used in the process! haha. Just make sure they have a spare pair of pants in their bag for really bad misses and some bio washing powder for soaking... they soon(ish) learn. :D

I do buy the frozen chicken as they are bigger and it's in one piece!! No kidding! have you buy the fresh chicken in C4? what ever I buy, I always find these poor chicken had suffered serious injuries that it's bones is already fractured in several places and it's wings are already ripped out of it's joints.....I refuse to eat something did suffer that much before it die....if I eat something suffered like that, it de-human me, and make me just a beast and I am not suppose to cook it....just eat it row..... really this what make you think Halal or not? Of course these chicken are not halal if they suffered before it die so it's not halal anymore. Just out of curiosity, how do you know that these "injuries" occurred before death and not after, during the plucking and packing stages?

Have you tried this one? [url=http://www.wonderbra.eu/uk/solution-bras-/ultimate-strapless-bra/invt/9335/&colour=Skin'>link[/url'> It's not the prettiest by a long way, but stays where it should and gives a smooth line and good "positioning" if you know what I mean! Bumping for more awareness, it's always good to know the latest scams! For cold calls, no matter what they are selling, I always ask: How did they get my number? If they can't tell my, I hang up. If they say a "friend" recommended me, I ask who? If they can't tell me, I hang up. And I always ask, if it's such a fantastic offer, why are they cold calling some random person? Surely if the offer is so good, people will be telling their friends etc and there would be no need to rustle up customers...

Can I please jump on the shredding wagon? I did it yonks ago and that, along with eating well and going to the gym and I got really fit and lost loads of weight. Then I had a miscarriage and moved country and put on 12 kg's. Am so disappointed with myself, but have nobody but myself (and my willpower! :D ) to blame. I have dug out the Shred DVD again and done it for the first time today... I go on leave in October and whilst I know there is no way I shall lose the 12 kg's it would be so lovely to lose 5kgs. I have 6.5 weeks - is it do-able if I concentrate reaaaaaalllllyyy hard?! Would just love some words of encouragement from you lovely ladies!

Kalms are rubbish ... Nytol herbal tablets so much better and actually do the job, unlike Kalms! That's a bit of a generalisation isn't it?! I have friends who swear by them, so they are not "rubbish" to them, although they are not strong enough to help me. Nytol herbal gave me horrendous nightmares, truly terrifying stuff and I have tried them several times in case it was a coincidence, so "rubbish" for me. I think different things work for different people... Exactly - I get so fed up of EWers rubbishing other people's choices on this forum - a simple question as to whether something can be bought in Dubai required a simple yes or no answer, not an argument, yet again! I personally haven't tried them - they're for my DD (the other one) who has said they have helped her insomnia to a certain extent. Thanks to all those who have answered in a positive manner! Who's having an argument? cheeky monkey- if the OP required a simple ''yes or no'' how come that was not your answer either?! in MY opinion Kalms are rubbish.. you have to take 4 tablets at one time and they still dont help me sleep... so again [b'>I THINK [/b'>they are rubbish... edited by Miss_dxb on 25/08/2012 The thing was, you didn't say "I THINK" in your post you said (and I quote) "[i'>Kalms are rubbish ... Nytol herbal tablets so much better and actually do the job, unlike Kalms!". [/i'>So you are correct - my comment wasn't a "yes or no" answer to the OP's post, it was a simple observation (not an argument) that it is a bit general of you to state the Kalms are rubbish and that different things often work for different people. I also mentioned that they don't work for me, but I wouldn't say they are "rubbish", just not for me.

I honestly don't think he is guilty either and it is despicable how he has been hounded. However if he IS guilty I shall be very sad and angry that I was taken in by his protestations of innocence. I think it will do a lot of harm to the sportsworld if 100% proof of illegal drug use is found, not that I think it will be. I wish he could find the strength to continue fighting.

That's a bit like asking who is the best hairdresser / butcher / gardener is?! There are good and bad maids from every culture and whether they are the "best" for you depends on your circumstances, children / pets / size of home, possibly your religion, would you prefer a Christian / Muslim / Hindu, the same as you or does it not matter? You really need to interview a few different nationalities and see which person you like the best. Someone else's idea of "best" might not be yours in the end.

Minimum wage doesn't apply to servers/bartenders. I worked at a steakhouse when I was 15 and everyone from hosts to bartenders were making 2.15 + tips. I was a hostess and made about $30-$50 a shift in tips. We shared tips and split them, some servers keep all their own tips. It just depends. I have no clue what the minimum wage is currently. When I was a teenager it was around $5, I think. kiwi, it is nice to know that somewhere, for some reason, some people love Americans lol :) Genuinely curious - is a server/waitress not service staff? If not who on earth are service staff?!

Never heard of tipping nurses, I never heard of that in American hospitals, anyway. But waitresses/waiters? In the US the hourly rate is around $2/hour. They survive on tips! Is it not the same here? I couldn't imagine not tipping in a restaurant....in any country, really. Its not the same everywhere, for example in NZ, waitresses/barstaff earn more an hour than retail sales staff, so why would you tip the waitress, but not the supermarket checkout girl, or the guy who sold you your DVD player etc? In australia they make even more as minimum wage is much higher. In NZ nurses are making a decent living, but I know that some of the filipino nurses here make a pittance, so if tipping is based on low salary then why not tip them. For a NZer, we sort of have the attitude that you are paying for a service already, so tipping is paying twice, the employer should be paying at least minimum wage. [b'>Is minimum wage in the US really $2 an hour, that's shocking![/b'> NZ waitresses love American tourists BTW! :) I agree! So I looked it up as I thought it was a bit low, the minimum wage for service staff is $8.25 minus 31% tip deduction so becomes $5.69. It is 85% of that for minors. Of course, that is still not brilliant - but a lot more than $2!! Of course, illegals may get so little, but that's another story...

We're landlords and have replaced, I think, two water heaters. Didn't think twice about it - of course it is the landlords repsonsibility! Or at least [i'>should[/i'> be! I would hope that is what the security deposits are for! Some of these LLs...ugh No, for us, the security deposit is for if they were to have damaged the property when they left. Things like water heaters / pumps, plumbing, irrigation system etc is just down to us, as it would be if we lived there ourselves (unless it needed to be repaired due to the tenants willful neglect in which case I would expect them to pay).

Whose food are they feeding the dog with? Their own or are they taking it out of your cupboards?! If there is a language barrier, I would just point at the dog and say "No feed, NOTHING!" whilst pointing at your mouth and shaking your head and then make a "being sick" motion and rubbing your tummy with a pained look. If they understand English really well, just tell them "Don't feed the dog as it makes him sick and if you do feed him then I will have to ask the agency to send someone else who can understand requests". If you can get someone to write a note in their language that may also help. I wouldn't be too harsh with them to start with as they probably don't really understand why you are being mean to the poor doggy who looks so cute when they feed him...!

Maybe I'm mistaken - but are you talking about PifPaf the insect KILLER, the one with poison in it that says to keep away from children / food / pets etc? Why would you put poison on your kids skin to get rid of something that can be removed with harmless oil? Surely even a little bit isn't good to be rubbing on kids skin that will absorb all that poison? Or have I totally got the wrong end of the stick? (Does happen, and frequently..! :D )

Okay, after much further research and speaking to BIBA (the British Insurance Brokers Association) it looks like the only way they can get insurance is through a Sri Lankan broker. I have emailed a couple that came up on Google and will start another thread with a more specific title, but just wondered if anyone knew a reputable Sri Lankan insurance broker...? Thanks in advance!
