I would imagine like most events freelancers, you would need to register within a free zone and technically you would then only be able to work within that free zone (twofour54, Abu Dhabi) or (Tecom, Dubai Media City) or JLT, RAK etc... However, as far as I am aware the majority of freelancers go wherever the job is and are not penalised by their license provider. But must add, if you are wanting to hold photoshoots in particular areas or bootcamps say on the beach then you would need to apply to the appropriate municipality for the correct permission. I hope that helps :)

Hi CG, I presume Diana didn't work out. Does she not do home tuition? Hi Kfn219, unfortunately no, although she was very nice on the phone and follow-up emails etc.., the cost per hour on an individual basis was just too high for me right now, so back to the drawing board. I will resort to dvd's and self-help books for now and hope for the best :-)

I know a Chinese lady who is, I believe, one of the very few (only?) fully-qualified and legally registered Chinese language trainers at Knowledge Village. Not sure about the home visits, but you can give her a try; http://www.qi-chinese.net/ And she's lovely to boot! Thank you - I will definitely take a look at the link :)

Hi All Can anyone recommend an international furniture removal company they have used and were satisfied with: I am moving from Dubai to Beijing and have contacted ISS and Pickfords to come and quote and I would like to contact 1 or 2 more just to ensure I am receiving like for like. Thank you all for your comments - this is going to be one huge decision. I am most definitely looking forward to change and even to a small degree being out of my comfort zone e.g. experience cultural changes. However, the potential health situation re: pollution is something that i'm struggling to get my head around, so a visit is definitely on the cards before moving. Thanks again for your valuable information.

Hi All My Husband and I have decided to apply for a visa to live and work in Australia and we aware that the process can be quite lengthy, so have decided to do this now when we have time on our side - rather than leave it to the last minute. My question for you lovely ladies is; have any of you recently applied for a resident / working visa in Australia and do you have any handy hints for completing the application form that you would not mind sharing? your comments would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Here's the municipality site that doesn't include Uganda on the list of possible nationalities: [url=http://www.dubai.ae/en/Lists/HowToGuide/DispForm.aspx?ID=45'>link[/url'> Thanks Meagle, unfortunately, not helpful for me just now but definitely helpful for others who want to sponsor home help. Thank you.

Hi Anon Thanks for your reply - this lady applied through an Ad I have placed on Dubizzle, and my with my limited experience of housemaids from agencies, I have never come across one from Uganda. Do you have any idea where I might find a list on a Dubai Municipality website that gives a definitive answer to this? Thanks again

A lawyer friend once told me that if you had being doing a job for a period of time, working the requested hours and receiving a salary on a regular basis, then whether you have a contract or not, it would be deemed that you had and therefore the terms of the contract could be upheld (hope that makes sense) but technically if you are working and do not have the necessary paperwork, e.g. labour card then you and your employer are at fault. Not very helpful but thought I would mention it. The lawyer on 103.8 was saying this is no longer the case. If you are working for a company without a visa or labour card from the company then you are working illegally and are liable for any penalties including fines and jail time. Thanks for the update starsouthern, it's always good to know these things.

Hi Starberry Yes, I looked at the fb page too - but got mine through the JESS school at Arabian Ranches - I believe the sales are going to a project the 6th form are fundraising for. I must say the cards are pretty good, printed well on good quality paper - can't complain at all. She also delivers, so best to look at the page for more info. Merry Christmas

As her English is only just OK, I have arranged for her very good English / Sri Lankan friend to come over on Friday evening to be our translator I spoke to our Maid today and said we need to be sure that our communication with her is completely understood so that she knows what we expect and she has the opportunity to ask questions on things we would like her to do, why & how. I put it to her that in a few weeks if all works out well she will be looking after our most precious asset and until we are sure that she understands the level of responsibility we are placing her with and proves that she is capable of handling it, along with having a level of cleanliness around our home we could not give her a guarantee that we would keep her on. She responded that she would be happy to have this happen and thinks it will help. Fingers crossed!

If Spinney's was there when you moved in, i think you are being unreasonable. if it wasn't, then you have a legitimate claim. it was their but had only opened 1 month prior to us moving into our 2nd MC apartment and for a while we did not notice the noise because of the times they used to have deliveries. 18months on they are much much busier and the stacking trollies rolling above our heads all day and night is really unbelievable - it sounds like the muffled chug of a train approaching you from a tunnel and unfortunately they try not do do repair works like air con or replace tiles in the day time, so it comes at night - my hubby had enough 2 weeks ago at 2am and nearly broke Spinney's door down trying to tell them to stop :(

I did hear on the radio (103.8) once regarding the sri lankan embassy giving free training for maids and labors. Maybe you should try callin the embassy and see what training they provide. ? Thank chocoholic83, my husband has convinced me to dig deep and find that reserve of patience - which is mighty difficult on 3 hours sleep. I'm currently watching her while she feeds my son lunch and she's not doing bad but this morning the crash bang of everything being swept, mop bucket being moved around almost drove me crazy - I can't wait until we are 2,3 months in and hopefully the pain of training will be significantly reduced, hopefully!

yes she does seem adamant about jumeirah, thank you for your reply. Btw, if you don't mind, are you in an apartment in motor city or a villa? as we are interested in living there. thanks Hi Lazydaze, sorry for the delay in replying but I have only just looked back at previous posts. I live in a 3 bed apartment with maid's room. I have seen the villas and they are very nice and very large - the apartments are too. It is a great community to live in and now has great links to most of the major roads, so travelling to and from is maid much easier. There are plenty of coffee shops, restaurants and of course Spinneys. So all in all a great place to live. However, I must add that the entrance to the lifts and corridors could do with a lick of paint!

Hey duddym. The text message I received, read as follows: "In recognition of your previous stay with Banyan Tree Al Wadi and as an introductory promotion for our newly launch Beach Resort. Book your beachfront pool villa at only AED 119 inclusive of breakfast for two. 30% discount off massage treatment. Call 07206 7604/5 or 07 206 7777 and book your welcome back package. Terms and conditions apply." FYI, we passed it to a friend who used it and had never stayed and the response he got was, 'oh we don't have you down as staying before, but no problem'. A bit naughty I know but everyone in Dubai needs to save a penny or two :) goodluck!

Hi I'm starting early and wanted to find out the current rents in Jumeirah Island, Arabian Ranches, Motorcity, The Villa's and Falcon City (phew!) I'm looking for a 3 bed with maids room and small garden - I know I can search on dubizzle but I wanted to find out what people had managed to get their villa's for. I really don't want to move to a sandpit but if the community is nice enough then I will. I'd really appreciate your help on this ladies. Thanks

Banyan Tree Beach club is amazing - the proximity to the sea and the rooms (Chalets) are huge and a mini version of the resort in the desert. I've stayed there 3 times now the first time I was 36 pregnant too! And although the service is erratic (including the power, 2 weekends ago) the staff do bend over backwards to help. You also get your own private pool next to the chalet an outdoor bath, terrace around the accommodation and your own beach kingsize bed! They are doing a deal at the moment for returning visitors - if you can get the code that will help reduce the cost, which included breakfast. For me it was a little bit of pain having to ask and ask again and wait and wait again but I still recommend it, for its beautiful surroundings and accommodating staff and only 1.30 min drive from Dubai. Although I did not spend the night at Qasr Al Sarb, I did do a tour of the hotels and facilities and spent the day there and again it is beautiful but at 35 weeks pregnant, the drive put me off - the approach road in a low slung sports car was probably not the best way to get there at my stage but again beautiful.
