Looks as if the OP is just going to have to make up her own mind about it - as many opinions as posters :) You're probably right. I have read mixed reviews before too so just wanted to know what the EW ladies might think. =) Think I will give it a try anyway.

I've been there twice and vowed never to go back, Overpriced, terrible service, poor wine list, very average food. Found a short curly hair in my main course and was offered a free desert as compensation. I didn't want a desert, but had to argue that they shouldn't be charging me for the main course. Also, pasta being hand made in view of clients without the use of gloves. Yuk. Oh, that's terrible. I would have definitely refused to pay them for that meal. =(

I don't eat meat of any kind though. I saw a few vegetarian options on the online menu and I'm hoping they have vegetarian pizza.

Hubby and I have been meaning to go down to Jamie's Italian for quite some time but I'm wondering if the place is any good. I downloaded their menu and they seem to have some OK vegetarian options (we are both vegetarian). Have any of you tried it and was it worth it?

I was told it was pretty common for people to do that though? (Not that I do though, am destined to be single forever I think. Looking forward to being a mad cat lady one day) As no one has mentioned it yet - thought you should know - if you don't already - you are not supposed/allowed to live with a man who is not actually your husband. OP is coming here to join her partner, but he won't be able to sponsor her until she finds work. That would mean visa runs until she has her own work visa. Bit of a pain. I'm confused, OP said that she was moving here with her fiancé, so regardless of her job situation he won't be able to sponsor her anyway because they are not married, or have I missed something here? Regardless, OP, I know many couples here who live together unmarried but there is always a risk of being found out, all it takes is a stroke of bad luck. And here's another vote for the Marina/JBR as well, loads of cafes a stroll away, the beach, and it has a very social vibe as there are always people around. It's hard to meet people when you don't work but you could look at joining social groups (social circles Is a good place to start) or even just going for classes at the gym? edited by SeaofLove on 14/09/2012 Better not to take the risk, and since OP is jobless an like AmyAus says, the job market isn't great, she won't know when she will have a sponsor. Until then she can only stay on a visit visa. That requires visa runs. Plus, getting married on a tourist visa I don't think is possible. They better go to their home country, marry, he comes back here and OP arranges the paper work so he can apply for a visa for her. I think the OP is asking for advice about where to live. Most people who come here know that living together with an unmarried partner is technically illegal... many still do it anyway. I would say the Greens is really nice. Don't live there myself but one of my friends does and I love it. =) There are a lot of things new expats are not aware of though we expect them to be. A little word of advice won't harm anyone. Whatever she decided to do is then up to her. I understand the concern... I just felt that she was getting too many of the "you should leave and get married ASAP" sort of replies. Considering that she's already here, I didn't think these were so helpful.

Two of my babies were c-sections. The first I didn't take it as easy as I should have ('I'm fine' was my mantra) so my recovery took longer. The second I took it really easy for 6 weeks and it paid off. So listen to your obgyn, you must take it easy! When not pregnant or breastfeeding I follow a vegan predominantly raw diet and it's fantastic for weight loss. Very hard work to start with but worth the results, it makes me feel great. Yes. The raw diet works wonders but it doesn't give very fast results. I try to go raw every 2-3 days a week (can't go all the way just yet).

Eat more raw veggies and fruits. Cut out deep-fried dishes and anything high in fat. Drink plenty of water (you will be less hungry then). The best way to lose weight is through running but if you don't have the stamina I'd suggest brisk walking/jogging for about 1 hour a day. Also, as tempting as it may seem do not starve yourself by reducing your calorie intake too drastically. What will happen is you will end of losing water weight and will appear slimmer initially but the next time start eating anything slightly heavier your will put back the weight really easily leading to the so-called yo yo effect. Good luck!

Well what do you and your husband like to do? What are you interested in? Well, when we lived in Europe we liked going to the park to jog. We also have a summer house so I'd spend a lot of time outdoors. The problem with outdoorsy activities here is that I find the heat almost unbearable... =(

From what I read before it depends on the size and weight of the pet (i.e. if it will fit in the pet carrier). Larger dogs have to travel in the luggage unit of the plane.

I second the Veterinary Hospital - Dr Max Spicer is absolutely lovely and I have always seen him with my two old grumpy north London cats and he is kind and gentle with them and very practical with his advice - I have complete confidence that he knows what he is doing and really cares about the animals. He is a dog owner himself so I am sure he would be great for you. Actually all the staff at the Vet Hospital are just lovely. It isn't that near where we live now, but I wouldn't go anywhere else. Agreed! That was the only clinic that helped my cat who was suffering from terrible allergies ever since she was a kitten. Nobody else knew what was going on.

I feel your pain. I only like my hair either really short or really long. Unfortunately, hair does not grow out in a day. It depends if you liked having it short in the first place. If so, get it re-cut. I wouldn't recommend extensions as they ruin your hair (despite what the hairdresser may say). They're also really expensive. So if you want a longer do be patient and grow it out. Meanwhile try to think of styles that could work (head bands, clips, etc. are always helpful in creating unique hairstyles).

im the only vegan in my group of friends, and usually just go to wherever everybody is happy to go to..my staple 'outside' food is pasta with arabiata sauce, no cheese! Same here marink. Penne arrabiata, no cheese, no butter! Be careful with pasta. If it is dry it will be fine but fresh pasta often contains egg. Indian is a good option just make sure the ghee is vegetable ghee not vegetarian ghee. That was my concern, too. I know that many Indian restaurants are vegetarian but not specifically vegan as their meals often contain paneer and are cooked with ghee.

Hi Cheezu, I'm vegan too and have to say that Dubai is really good for vegan dining. There are no exclusively vegan restaurants, but there is lots of choice. As the others say, you have lots of indian vegetarian restaurants and it's fairly easy to just omit the cream from the dishes. But the high-end vegan dining here is fantastic too! Nobu created a fantastic 9-course vegan tasting menu for me and my husband two weeks ago (not usually a fan of Japanese-inspired cuisine but the food was AMAZING! let me know if you want the chef's #). Indego is a fine dining Indian restaurant which is great too. Bussola at the Westin do amazing cheese-free Pizzas. Thai restaurants tend to have a great vegan selection too; Pai Thai, Thiptara and Blue Rain have all created vegan menus for us in the past. Enjoy vegan dining in Dubai! :) Thank you so much, dubizzie! I've never had a cheese-free pizza and I've heard they're great. Definitely want to try that.

Thank you! I do love some of these Indian veg restaurants but was looking for something slightly more high-end where hubby and I could go for dinner during the weekend. High end restaurants are often really helpful if you call in advance and ask. A couple of years ago I went to either Gary Rhodes or Gordon Ramsay's restaurant (can't remember which sorry) and spoke to them about being a vegan when I booked. They did a nine course vegan degustation menu for me, it was amazing. Oh, great! I never thought of doing that, you know. I will next time. =)

You should get a text message when the credit is added to your account. I had this happen once but I had just landed in the UK and when the guy called me to say he had made a mistake in typing the number I had no idea how to send it back, especially as I was in th Uk. I felt really bad, even though it wasn't my mistake, it was only 10 dhs but obviously was a gift for someone. Yorky, the thing is, if it's a scam then you are also likely to get a text message (like all those lottery ones) so it's best to check your current balance by just keying *121# into your phone to see if it was actually added.

You should first check your credit to see if you actually did get the extra 10 dirhams (of course if you're not sure how much you had in the first place it may be a problem). If the 10 was added to your balance it might be a genuine mistake, in which case I'd send it back to the poor person. I sometimes transfer credit too between hubby's phone and mine and I'm always nervous I might make a mistake and send it to another person.

apologies to the OP if this is slightly off topic, wanted to ask The Russian, were you able to achieve normal growth after treatment? From what you have written here, it seems I suffered the same when I was around 12 years old, the dandruff is gone now, or at least stays at bay as long as i continue using a particular shampoo for it, but my hair has never gone back to how it used to be,. Is there anything that worked for you to get the hair that you used to have? No problem, lilpad28. =) I've been wondering that myself, too in case I experience thinning. edited by Cheezu on 06/09/2012

The Russian - I have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis a few years ago actually (it gets bad esp. in my ears and sometimes around my nose); however, I went to a dermatologist in the UK recently and he said that what I have is just normal dandruff which may be due to stress (I got married 2 months ago) and change of water/weather, etc. (I travelled a lot over the summer). He said it's actually perfectly normal to shed 100-170 hairs each day but to be honest, to me this seems like an immense amount. I cut my hair short after the wedding (it was waist length before) and when I had short hair a few years ago I'd hardly notice it fall out so this suggests that something is not right. wuffles - Thanks for your suggestion. Cheezu, have you seen a dermatologist? I don't mean to scare you but I had a similar problem a few years ago and it turned into a disaster. My hair started falling out, I got some serums that were supposed to help, my hair kept falling AND I got dandruff as well, started using anti-dandruff shampoos & serums and ended up with a seborrhea - by the time I finally stepped into a dermatologist's office, my scalp was literally covered by crust (which the doctor called a "cardinal's hat"...). I'll spare you the details of the treatment process, but I did lose a lot of hair going through with it and it was terrible. Like other posters said, it's very individual - and your hair is definitely not something to experiment with... dandruff is ultimately a dermatological issue and the sooner you see a professional, the better!

Just a small update - So I tried Soak N' Float. The itching has subdued but not completely. I think I have less flaking although when I woke up today I still saw visible flakes on my pillow (the cover is dark). I'm thinking of using Soak N' Float and maybe switching it around from time to time to baby shampoo and also trying T-Gel. My hair is falling a lot too so I decided to install a filter in the shower head. I went for a blood test and everything is OK with me; I don't have any deficiencies and my hormone levels are just fine so I think it's got to be the water. The doc also said that actual dandruff will not cause hair fall so I don't know what's wrong with me... =(

T Gel and Betnovate scalp drops (pharmacy) work wonders......I personally don't use the TGel available here as it is usually the French one and slightly different, I prefer the US OR UK one. I do have the Betnovate ointment as well as the scalp lotion. I used to use the ointment (and still do from time to time) for my face whenever I would get dry skin or a rash around my nose. However, they seemed to have changed the formula so now the ointment is clear and very oily (before it was white and thicker) which I don't like. The scalp lotion does not work as well as it used to unfortunately. Perhaps my scalp got used to it? I also read that it shouldn't be used long term as it can cause skin thinning and this got me worried. I use it sporadically when I really can't prevent the itching. Will try T-gel.

I'm actually thinking of getting a filter... for the shower. The water in Ajman is so bad! It's always giving me skin rashes and dandruff. The water in Dubai is much better though. I also need advice on filters.
