I thought the care I received from Dr Bashar (especially in the hospital) was fantastic, you are in great hands. He is very pro natural birth or whatever you want your birth to be. I did end up in a csection but only because I was over 41weeks and 0 progress. I brought all of my own stuff for the baby - diapers, wipes, clothes, blanket, etc. Best of luck to you!

We just moved to Abu Dhabi from Al Ain and I'm newly pregnant with my second. I'm finding all the healthcare options options here dizzying- in Al Ain it was pretty simple. I had my first baby at Oasis hospital where my obgyn was also located and it was good. We are nearest to the Al Noor hospital on Airport Rd and it would be awfully convenient to have my appointments and birth there but I know nothing about it. My first birth was completely natural with midwives at Oasis and we'd like to do the same thing this time. Can anyone tell me what al Noor is like for a natural birth? Do they use midwives for appointments and the birth? How are the facilities? Can baby and husband stay in room with me after the birth? Are there long wait times for appointments and scans? Private rooms available after birth? Can anyone recommend a good obgyn at al Noor who speaks English well and listens to patients who have opinions and preferences about their care? Also any good pediatricians? Some other general healthcare questions about Abu Dhabi- Do most people go to clinics outsides of hospitals for general Dr visits? We just went to Oasis in Al Ain for everything but it seems here there are more clinics. Are these better in terms of getting appointments and shorter waits? I realize these are a lot of questions but I would appreciate very much any helpful info! I've searched the forums and not found answers so far. Thank you!!! I gave birth (and many of my friends did as well) at Al Noor on airport road all with positive experiences. Many saw Dr Marwan and I saw Dr Bashar - both great in my opinion! All appointments are done directly thru the hospital so that made it easy. If you prefer a female then I recommend Dr Sawsan at the Cure clinic - she does deliver at the new Al Noor. I have heard many positive things about her as well. The hospital does not have midwives so I would suggest getting a doula if that is important to you. All the rooms are private and both hubby and baby can stay with you in room. If you are flexible with the timing of the appointments then you should have no problem getting in and out. I'd suggest booking the first appt of the day but understand that emergencies do happen and those cases will be put before you. For a pediatrician, I would suggest Dr Maurice at the Cure clinic - speaks perfect english and trained in France. Excellent Dr! Hope this helps and GL!

It depends how it was sent. If it was sent regular mail with tracking added on it can take a bit longer. Priority mail would take about a week. It won't be updated until it arrives at the main post office in Dubai. <em>edited by Chgo2AD on 22/05/2012</em>

Thank you ladies for the feedback I know the thought of not being with DH is awful. I was not really worried until about a week ago when I heard about a story of a baby arriving early and how much debt they ran up with hospital bills. I guess maybe that is playing more on my mind as we have been through ivf but up until now no problems. We did a list of should I give birth here or not but that does not really help either. I did wonder about the passport and that is useful to know at least you don't have to wait ages. We have costed about Aed 30,000 for the labour and I really want to have natural although I have not met one person here who has so I guess that is playing on my mind as well. The problem what do you budget for emergencies I guess you cant really. I have my next apppointment at the end Nov and maybe chat it through with him not that he will really be able to help. When you did go back at what stage did you decide? I need a Crystal ball lol Not an easy decision to make. I think most airlines allow you to fly up to week 33-35? Worth checking. BTW I delivered last year in American Hospital and was determined to have non medicated birth and I did, so it is very much possible. Staff will respect your wishes as long as it is safe for you and your little one, although you have to know what you want and what you dont want. I flew at 36 weeks on BA from the US to AD but each airline has different policies so make sure you triple check!

Pros - large, modern with open kitchens and good build quality. There are a ton of parks where the kids can play and there is also Raha Plaza on site which has restaurants, dry cleaners, small grocery store, nail place, etc. There is also a weekly playgroup there if you have kids. It also has Al Raha and Yasmina school on the property. Cons - No community pool although there is a fitness center. The air conditioning bills can be high so keep this in mind when you figure out your budget.

There is an activity bar that is included as well as an iPod/mp3 jack with a built in speaker.! I'd be willing to sell it to you for 375 if you're interested. Will be up in Dubai on Thursday. It was only used for a few months - pet and smoke free home. <em>edited by Chgo2AD on 17/10/2011</em>

Yes, same thing happened to me. DH bought me a bag for our anniversary and I wanted to exchange it for a different one. They issued a credit voucher for the remaining 3000dhs and told me I had 3 months to use it. I don't think there is any way around it - sorry. How much are you looking to sell the voucher for?

It only applies to the person with the income. I spend roughly 4 months in the US each year - our accountant used to be a tax auditor and confirmed that it doesn't apply to me.

Thanks for all of the advice/opinions/etc. I wouldn't dream of giving her anything that her Dr didn't approve of or thought that wouldn't be safe. Since her Dr here is on holiday and her Dr back home is not familiar with the names of the drugs here, I figured I would ask you ladies before getting back to him. I guess I'll just hope for the best and pray that she's not fussy/not feeling well on Saturday and see if there is any advice he can give me for the return flight. She's flown a ton and normally is fine but our return trip home from Greece last week was 5 hours of her being miserable and I wasn't prepared for it since all of her other flights have been without incident. There's not much you can do when they don't feel well and sometimes medicine (approved by a DR) is what's needed and I'm ok with that.

This weekend I'll be traveling alone from AUH to Chicago with my 5 1/2 month old which is 19 hours of traveling. She's done the flight before and was great BUT now she has GERD, we've just switched her medicine and they aren't working in full effect yet so she's fussier than normal. All of the acid just makes her uncomfortable right now. To top it off, we have some teeth about to come in, so is there anything I can give her only if I have to that will help her sleep or make her a little drowsy other than adol? I meant to ask her DR the other day but of course I forgot and now he's on holiday. giving your baby a sedative is potentially very dangerous, not only could it have the opposite effect and make her hyper, it could also supress her respiratory functions and stop her breathing... are you prepared for this risk?? Are you wanting to do this for your own convenience? Maybe invest your time in practising other ways to soothe her and bring her comfort other than just wanting to knock her out. She's not even 6 months old yet, still a small baby, although I'm horrified to think people want to do this to a child of any age. Easy there! In my original message I stated that I only wanted it as a backup should nothing else work so no, I'm not doing it for my convenience. She has a severe case of GERD which sometimes leaves her crying for hours and there's not much that I can do to help her other than make sure she's taken her medicine and give her a warm bath to soothe her. As I stated, her Dr just switched her meds as Nexium was giving her really bad side effects. It generally takes a full 2 weeks for the new meds to take full effect and so in the meantime she can get really uncomfortable from all the acid. I've invested plenty of time trying to figure out new ways to soothe her, taking her to numerous specialists, doing research on the internet just trying to make her feel better. Also, I was asking so I can run it by her Dr in the US prior to me *maybe/small chance* of having to use it. <em>edited by Chgo2AD on 19/07/2011</em>

Sorry out of topic but Chgo2AD where did you book your flights? Are you flying with Etihad? I'm thinking of flying after Eid. We either fly direct from AUH-ORD which is around 15 hours direct or we fly Etihad to Europe and do a quick layover in either Brussels, London, Paris or Dublin and then grab the AA flight to Chicago. Both options has it's perks. I've found it cheaper to book directly thru American Airlines on the Etihad codeshare flights but you'd earn your miles on AA then.

Thanks - it sounds like what I would use if I was in the US (Benadryl). I guess I'll pick some up and try it tomorrow. I assume it's safe to use on infants? Not planning on using it on the flight unless she is really uncomfortable.

Just got back from a 9 day trip to Athens and I would recommend staying on the coast. Athens was horrible - the city has really gotten pretty nasty, even since our trip there a year ago. We saw drug use on the streets, graffiti everywhere, not to mention all of the riots going on right now. I'd say do 1 night in Athens and stay near the Plaka and then head out to Vouliagmeni for the remainder of the stay. There are a ton of lovely restaurants in walking distance and the resort is beautiful. They also offer a free shuttle to downtown Athens a few times daily. http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/property/photos/index.html?propertyID=1983

How much does Kylie charge? And Le Meridien? (Also have short hair. Also looking to get a decent haircut before I head off for the summer.) I think I pay 235 - I usually get my color touched up at the same time as my haircut so I only get the 1 combined bill. You can give them a buzz just to confirm the pricing. She's a little pricey but well worth it! She's from the UK and is formally trained.

arabtec would be the only one anywhere here. none really in abu though. they all have the good and bad. the marina what do you mean, there is no marina as such do you mean raha beach? My guess is that she is talking about Marina Heights on Reem Island. I would suggest looking into Al Bandar - it's across from Raha Gardens and is an Aldar property. Lovely grounds, great facilities (multiple pools, tennis courts, gym, spinneys on site as well as a pharmacy, health clinic, sunglass shop, multiple restaurants, etc) and the maintenance is fantastic. 24-7, 7 days a week.

What airline are you flying from NY to Orlando? If it's Southwest or Jet Blue then you should get free baggage, or at least a portion of it.

Their prices are better than Emirates and so is their service. They give the kids little packs with activity books etc. Their food for kids is very nice and they are generally friendly. We take Etihad back to Geneva and even though Emirates flys to Geneva direct now I will continue to use Etihad. That sounds great. Last year I didn't find Emirates especially child friendly. And I wasn't too happy with the food as half of it was sweets and chocolate. How about inflight entertainment in terms of TV program? There are tons of shows & movies for both adults and kids. They are great with kids and to be honest, we've never had a disappointing experience with Etihad.

BM, In the US it's standard that if an item goes on sale within 2 weeks of when you purchased it, you simply show your receipt and you get refunded the difference in price. I think this is the system that the OP is used to, and I'm assuming is what she was asking the store in question to do for her. To be clear: you mean new, unused items with label only right? edited by Eva B. on 30/05/2011 The item can be worn already, tags removed, etc. In fact, you don't even need to bring the item into the store. Just the receipt is all that is needed and they will credit you the difference between the sale price and the price you paid if it's within 7/14 days depending on the store. Really, all the major stores do this in the US. Gap, Banana Republic, Bloomingdales...the list never ends. For example: Off the Banana Republic website regarding online orders. Price Adjustments We offer a one-time price adjustment if an item is marked down within fourteen (14) days of the date on your purchase. To obtain a price adjustment on an online purchase, you must call 1-888-BRSTYLE or send us an email message at [email protected] within the fourteen (14) day window. Include your order number in your email message. If you are within the deadline, we'll refund you the difference in your original form of payment. <em>edited by Chgo2AD on 30/05/2011</em>

Wow! Looks like I was away and it created a huge to-do about ethics- I said return and buy the same pair. Meaning, effectively, it gets returned at original price- [b'>without[/b'> my surrendering the pair and the refund gets credited- as I buy it back( the same piece)- this is normal in the States if there is a sale within 7 days of the original purchase- maybe it was way too much for the IQ of those on here to understand the logic:\: perhaps the same for the sales girl! I don't think this is normal in the US ( is it??) ...............would be interested to hear others thoughts on this..yes, you might return an unused labelled item and buy another ( if there is one) at the sale price but something that you have used? Never seen that or heard of that in all my years there. it's fairly common in the US to honor price adjustments if an item goes on sale within 7 days.
