The healthiest alternative to sour cream is regular plain yogurt. Full or low fat, whatever your choice. Been going this for years with all our Mexican food and nachos and no one can even tell. Just the cool creamy consistency of it makes it taste the same. And there really is no taste to the yogurt, it is perfect.

Def seen it there but didn't ask the price. It was either at fida or in the same line as it as you're going towards the mosque. I saw it outside a few places.

Pet Festival this weekend on Saturday from 2pm in Sports City if you are interested in going, details are below, good family day out! The Pet Festival 2013 is being held on Saturday, 23 November 2013, at the Dubai Sports City Grounds. The first Pet Festival was held last year in October 2012, which had great response from Pet owners and Animal lovers. Last year’s event had more than 3000 pet lovers and 200 Dogs coming to the event along with their owners. So in order to accommodate more pets and their owners, we have organised this year’s event at a larger and suitable venue, at the Dubai Sports City, next the International Cricket Stadium with new features. Pets Festival is an educational and entertaining animal fair designed to raise awareness of animal welfare and to educate individuals about pet products, pet food, pet fashion, pet health, pet training & all pet services - all that you need for your best friends! It is an event where pet lovers, pet product suppliers, animal welfare activists, animal welfare departments, experts, veterinarians and pets meet. The event will start at 2 pm and finish at 9 pm. Entrance is free and people can bring along friendly pets. There will be checks and registration of pets at the entrance to classify dogs entering the venue, under Aggressive, Reserved and Friendly categories marked by Red, Yellow and Green Ribbons attached to the Dogs and Handlers. Dogs participating in the competitions will have separate registration starting at 10 am onwards. All dogs should have vaccination records, to get entry to the event and competitions. All entering dogs should be on short Leashes and larger dog owners should bring Muzzles with them and use them if their dog is classified under Red Category. No Harnesses and Flexi-leashes are permitted. Dogs below 4 months are not allowed and dogs entering the show / competitions should be of 6 month and above. This year there will be special Dog Show, competitions organised in association with the IBKC (USA). All Dog breeds can participate. Dogs are to be shown under the following main Categories namely, 1) Working Class 2) Gun Dogs, 3) Terriers, and 4) Toy Dogs and 5) Non-Sporting. They will be judged under Puppy Class (5 to 12 months), Adult Class (12 months to 7 Years). There will be also competition for Veteran Class (Above 12 years – Any Breed), Best Junior Handler and Dogs’ Fancy Dress. The Dog Show will be judged by qualified international judges headed by Mr. Roger Molina (All Breeds & IBKC) from USA and Mr. Ali Alredha (IBKC) from UAE., along with others. Winners will receive Trophies, Rosettes and Certificates. The Highlight of the show will be a grand demonstration by the Abu Dhabi Police K9 security dogs team. There is also a Fashion Show featuring 10 Dogs taking the Catwalk in specially designed dresses. The Pet Festival also has a Petting Zoo where children can learn how to handle various animals and experience petting them. Children’s Play Area, Pony Rides are other features to keep children entertained. Other features of the Pet Festival 2013 are: · Pet supply & accessory Vendors · Pet fashion consultants & suppliers · Animal Welfare & Adoption groups · Veterinary consultants · Pet behaviourists & Trainers · Government Animal Welfare Departments · Entertainment & Food outlets · Children’s fun & Games. There will be many new products and services, useful for pets and pet owners launched for the first time in the UAE. Another important aspect of the Pet Festival 2013, is the launching of the Emirates Kennel Club(BKC), a first of its kind to enable Dog owners and Breeders to register themselves and get information, education and participation in National and International Dog Shows, correct breeding procedures and Pedigree Certifications. Dog owners and Breeders can register themselves during the event for a special pre-launch annual fee. The BKC will legalise its status and affiliate with International Kennel Clubs and organisations to hold dedicated International Dog Shows in the UAE, in the coming years. More details are available at the event. Event starts from 2.00 pm. till 9.00 pm.

GENEVA — United Nations officials confirmed an outbreak of polio among children in Syria on Tuesday, lending urgency to plans for vaccination campaigns there and in nearby countries to try to halt the spread of the disease. Tests confirmed polio in 10 out of 22 children in Deir al-Zour Province in northeastern Syria who became ill this month, said Oliver Rosenbauer, a spokesman for the World Health Organization. Results of tests on the other 12 children are expected soon, he added. “With population movements, it can travel to other areas,” Mr. Rosenbauer said, “so the risk is high of spread across the region.” United Nations officials said last week that they were beginning a campaign to immunize 2.4 million children in Syria against polio and other diseases. With thousands of refugees fleeing daily from Syria’s civil war to neighboring countries, the officials are also intensifying immunization efforts in six countries: Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey, which have taken in more than two million Syrian refugees, as well as Egypt and Israel. Most of the affected children in Syria are younger than 2, Mr. Rosenbauer said, underscoring the impact of 31 months of conflict on Syria’s health infrastructure. The United Nations says half a million Syrian children have not been inoculated against polio in a country where, before the conflict, 95 percent of the country’s population was immunized. Despite the difficulty of delivering vaccines in a country convulsed by war, Unicef said it had vaccinated about a million Syrian children this year, including 800,000 who were vaccinated against polio. After confirming the presence of the disease, attention is turning to identifying the source, Mr. Rosenbauer said. Public health officials have speculated that a possible source may have been jihadi fighters traveling to Syria from Pakistan which, with Afghanistan and Nigeria, are the only countries where the disease is still endemic. The outbreak of polio in Syria “shows you have to eradicate the disease in the endemic countries because from there it will spread no matter where you are,” Mr. Rosenbauer, who works with the World Health Organization’s Global Polio Eradication Initiative, said in an interview. The polio outbreak in Syria was “a setback” like any upsurge in the disease, but health officials were seeing significant progress in curbing the disease in endemic countries, Mr. Rosenbauer said. In Pakistan and Nigeria, the disease is geographically more restricted, and in southern Afghanistan, the area of that country where the disease remains endemic, no new cases had been reported this year. “That’s never happened before,” he said.

TDB, I read that exact same post and the only thing that's irking me is that I'll have to pump to do that. When I was always full of milk it took me an hour just to get one ounce, it might take me all day at the point that I am now. Kiwispiers, yeah poor thing, had a fit, that could be that she was a little startled. She's had milk products and cheeses before and even smoothies but that won't deter her from that feeling of drinking and then sleeping that she's used to, will it...which is what I'm aiming for. To wean her off me. Unless she's completely full from the smoothie that she sleeps through the night, I guess that's a good idea. I'll try it. If anyone else has any suggestions or experiences, I'd be very appreciative for some feedback.

The whole thing is kind of annoying because the 1st of the month (Muharram/New Year) isn't even until Monday/Tuesday! How can they just move up the holiday to the weekend before and then do it on a non-working day for people and not give a proper day off? Isn't there anywhere we can complain? GAH!

Want to take the family to a water park this weekend. We're going to have little kids (under 2) and a lot of adults. So if you have experiences with both the kids areas and the main attraction rides, which one would you say is better?

Agree with the ladies that posted before. Wipe warmer and Diaper Genie are truly a waste and they'll end up creating more clutter which you don't need. I would def recommend a good, comfy, glider chair with an ottoman. I didn't get it with my first one and got by because I was traveling a lot and didn't get it right away with the second and regretted it and got it when she was 2 months and ended up spending more than I should have but I was desperate at that time with a very colicky baby!

Thanks Feefmick for checking, you are too sweet! I went to Arabian center and checked daiso-they only had "canvas paper", and Lulu had the best deal, they were a few different sizes and the largest one was around 35 aed. I went to ACE to pick up some spray paint and didn't have time to check as the family was sitting in the car but I'm sure ACE would've been more expensive than Lulu. Next time I'm in Mirdif, I'll check Borders, thanks for the heads-up. :)

If you're willing to go down to dragon mart, you'll find tons of curtain makers who will make roman blinds for a fraction of the price. I've gotten some done for there for about 500 and that's with pretty thick fabric and a blackout lining in the back.

We use Masafi as well. We had that problem once with Oasis, as well. The bottle was crooked or something and it wasn't sitting well and the whole thing was leaking. After they replaced that bottle, we switched to Masafi.

Eid Al Adha is on Tuesday, October 15 and the day of Arafat is on Monday, October 14th. Those two days are the holidays that are mandatory for days off. I believe the rule is 3 days off, so they can choose if they will give off Sunday the 13th or Wednesday the 16th. Most places are giving off Mon, Tues, Wed. And if you're lucky, Thursday! :)

These little pests are called weevils. Once you have everything cleared, throw everything out and re-buy! It seems a pain but even one left over can reproduce very quickly. Clean or vacuum all shelves, cabinets with a bleach/water solution or tea tree oil, vinegar, or any disinfectent. and once everything is repurchased and ready to go back into the clean cabinets freeze grains for at least 1 week to kill any eggs and store grains in tightly sealed glass, metal, or sturdy plastic containers (not bags) and purchase only a small, reasonable amount so you don't need to buy giant jars. I've read that bay leaves or small bags of black pepper placed around the pantry may repel weevils in the future. Good luck. It a tedious task but once you get started you're on a grind never to see another weevil again! :) and it'll cause a frenzy of cleaning which is never a bad thing.

Hey maroosh, I am driving and I live in the palm so can you give me directions please? Many thanks I only know how to get there by metro sorry! I don't drive... Maybe the other ladies know? For directions to the naif souq abaya mall, which is the most reasonable place around town to get abayas, if you type in Al Manal Centre in maps.google.com it is the mall right across the street from it. I always park in the Manal Center parking garage, I believe it's 5 aed per hour. It's also next to Al Ghurair mosque, which you can see on the map.
