I know it was free until NY and then from there I don't remember the exact charges but it was around 9-10 kg if you have your shop and ship calculator you can figure it out from there with the weight. We get a discount on it so it would be different from your price anyway.

I just got my LO the leapfrog leap pad. Your son may be too old for it, but its worth checking out! The internet is very restricted, it has a camera and you can use any cartridges for the leap frog. The cartridges go a long way as they're more entertaining and activity filled than say "angry birds".

I use the britax 55 for my son. That uses the latch system not isofix but it is essentially the same thing. I ordered it from babies r us to my shop and ship. Amazon will only ship books or CDs to a Dubai po box.

The best thing for a new mom to get is cash or a mall gift card. She can spend it on what she needs which usually ends up being diapers and formula or at least put it towards a stroller for both kids, etc. You can pair it with a big plate of cookies or a bouquet of flowers or even a personalized artwork. Don't worry, it won't seem rude. I've always found that giving (and getting) cash is the best, no-frills gift especially when it comes to babies. edited by Chi2dxb on 23/07/2013

Ive seen large sheets and rolls at the dubai Library distributor store in bin sougat. Also seen rectangle sheets at daiso but those are pretty thin, you may have to double up with those.

OMG! That's really steep! I just checked with a friend who had one replaced in her bathroom last year with JWFI and she paid Dhs 1,000. It was an 80 litre one, though. The one I had replaced in the kitchen is a smaller one, so that's probably why it was cheaper. Another option is to buy the water heater yourself directly from a dealer (Yellow Pages should have a list) and have someone install it so all you pay is the hourly charge for the installation. It shouldn't take more than an hour, unless the heater is in a "hard to reach" place. I remember seeing an Ariston 80 liter water heater for Dhs 400 a couple of years ago in one of the shops on Salahuddin street in Deira, where most of the bathroom/kitchen suppliers are. Good luck! Ours is a 100 liter and that price sounds right for one. That's what the guy told me. I was thinking about buying one and having someone install it but then again we need someone reliable to do the job. Thanks a lot for your help! edited by Chi2dxb on 15/07/2013

Just called JWFI and they quoted me at 1500 aed. Seems a little steep when the cost of the water heater is only around 400-500 aed. Anyone else have any recommendations?

I haven't fasted in the last two years due to being pregnant and I still have, oh about 58 of those 60 missed fasts to make up. My dd1 is now 7 months and I'm planning on fasting. I cannot make up any more fasts than I already have to! Haha my sister fasted last year with a 6 mo ebf baby and said just drink lots of water. InshaAllah khair. so Abaya mall is manal centre? No Abaya Mall is in Mirdiff, Mala Centre is opposite Naif Souq so where is it? I took a taxi there, but it's not too far from Mirdiff City Centre: http://www.abayamall.com/ContactUs.php what are the prices like for the ready made ones? if it's like naif souq then this is much closer than driving all the way to deira for me!

The Naif SOUQ mall across from Manal Center is full of abayas for around 100. Some places are even having sales on their abayas for 50-60 aed. I always park in the manal center garage, its 5 aed an hour and no hassle. The souq is inside and air conditioned so its no biggie. Just go early morning to avoid the city traffic. Here's the map for manal center Al Manal Centre Deira St, Dubai http://goo.gl/maps/UwPxi edited by Chi2dxb on 08/07/2013

I've always asked my sister how she knew she wanted more or if she was done after 4 and she said "you'll just know". So the fact that I'm even asking makes me think that yeah I do want more. I have a 22 month old and a 7 month old. Its super crazy right now and I don't think I can physically do it but I do feel that "someone's missing". And then I think well if I have 3, will I want 4? Haha its always a struggle to think about money especially here but that shouldn't be what you base your decision off of because things may change later and you could look back and realize that yeah you could've afforded another baby but its too late. I don't know if you're Muslim or not, but Islam says that a baby brings its own blessings so don't worry about the financial aspect of it.

I was a Montessori teacher for 3 years in the US and trust me when I say, your child will be ok. I've seen 2-6 year olds wailing on the first day to running out of the car, waving after a week or two. Stick to a morning schedule at home keep your drop off short and to the point, hug and kiss goodbye and even if she's crying, let her go in the class alone. As long as you're consistent with dropping off and picking up, she'll be fine.Don't go with her in the class cuz that will set her back. If you're watching from inside the school, try not to let her see you. Again, trust me. She'll be fine in no time. edited by Chi2dxb on 04/07/2013

I have been here for 4 years and dh has been here for 15+. I really hated it when I first got here but it started growing on me. But we are leaving after Eid. We don't get any extra allowances and my husband has had zero growth at the job that he's been at for 6 years regardless of earning two higher degrees of education while there. He's stayed in that position though because he hadn't found anything else better! But after having kids, I realized that all I long for is my public library, grass, and sidewalks, and seasons! I started looking past the crazy prices of everything because of s&s but I cannot wait to get back to my sales :) Oh and good schools that don't cost your whole salary! I'm pretty sure I wont be looking back ;). The tree lined street in a quaint, picture perfect suburb of the Midwest is where my heart is. <3 edited by Chi2dxb on 04/07/2013

Are they weebles?? I got them once before a long time ago. they were in a box of oatmeal. I basically had to throw everything out and clean all the cabinets with bleach and water solution and then I used a water and lavender oil solution and then I used tea tree oil. I also read online that they don't like Bay leaves so once everything was aired out and cleaned I placed bay leaves throughout the cabinet space and then slowly purchased new products again

Hi ladies, if you've just had a little one or are about to, these diapers are really great. My daughter just grew out of them and I over bought when I went to the US, otherwise these are what I was using since she was born. They have a really cool feature on them that let's you know when they're ready to be changed (the wet indicator). I'm charging just the cost for them, not taking any profit, just want them to not go to waste! If you're going to decorate with fondant, I wouldn't refrigerate it. If you could split your time you could buttercream it all tonight and let it harden and then decorate with the fondant in the morning. But I have decorated a day before with fondant and left it out covered loosely in plastic wrap.

Elevation burger, burger fuel, shake shack, and johnny rockets! Max is not good at all, tastes just like burger king. Fat burger is ok. Not a fan of gourmet burger kitchen, the patties are dry. Fuddruckers is fun to create your own but again, the patties aren't the greatest. Ahh craving some burgers with a chocolate shake now!

It may be hard for your machines but smaller decor items, curtains, clothes and dishes you can take to the Dubai flea market to sell? Not sure if getting a table is worth it to you but I'm sure you could make some fast cash. See if you can split a table with someone?

There are a lot of apartments, but they're all different. Studios, one bedrooms, two bedrooms, three bedrooms, and some even have duplex apartments. You just have to go into each one and see what fits you and your family the best. Rents vary as well, 2 bedrooms (plus maids room with bath) range from 50,000-75,000.

I'm not sure I understand what is "illegal" in letting someone know to drive the speed limit and that the speed cameras have been changed (when actually Dubai should let the public know what the grace limits are, ie, ticket at at 10 or 20 kph over the speed limit). Thanks SueB for that information, was it in the news anywhere? I know a lot of people who drive 135 on a 140 speed limit or 115 on a 120 because from what I knew, there was a 20 kph grace with the cameras.

Truly tragic. Can't even imagine what the family is going through. I'm still in shock and its not my child. Poor family. AnonDubai, when I was 5 years old, I fell asleep on the bus on my way home. My mom was waiting for me at the door and realized I didn't come out and called the school. The bus driver had reached the bus depot by that time and I was still asleep when she was going around checking the bus before leaving. By the time I woke up,I was back home and got off all alone confused and wondering where my friends were. I saw my mom crying at the door and she told me what happened and believe me, I never fell asleep on the bus again!

How far in advance can you give your landlord notice without having to pay a fine? We would be terminating our contract in the middle of the fourth year of the the same place with the same landlord.
