That's what I was planning on doing with one side. What did you do on the wall side? Or do you have a railing on both sides?

Here are some previous threads: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic198580-moving-to-al-furjan-villas.aspx http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic196860-all-furjan-villas.aspx The major problem is the access to the villas is only to go through Discovery Gardens. If they would open up to Emirates Road and 77, it would be much quicker to get in and out. Also, if you're home during the day, be prepared to hear your doorbell ringing A LOT by gardeners, carpet guys, and restaurants all delivering their cards/menus. To add, there's a few leakages from the "muslim showers" in the bathrooms. The living and dining has about 12 spotlights that all turn on at the same time..kind of annoying when you don't want all the lights on (imagine that bill!). If you put your internet router upstairs, you'll have to get some sort of booster or add another one downstairs as the signal doesn't go through the walls. The kitchen storage is nice, but if you have a fridge or an oven that's smaller than the space they give, it looks a bit funny! Also, make sure you keep a spare key with you at all times, you can easily get locked out if the front door closes behind you. It's super dusty, buy a hose if you don't have one now to wash the driveway often. With the amount of men that are always walking around, the first thing I'd want to do is get the curtains/blinds up for the downstairs. Oh, and keep insect repellent with you, lots of mosquitoes! The garbage collection day is Monday, there's a supermarket in the masakin al furjan apartments called "w mart" that delivers, and loads of other groceries and restaurants in Discovery Gardens itself.

i think that's for off the railing. what difference does it make if it's hanging off a stand or a line within the area?

I have seen it in spinneys mercato recently with the baking goods. May I ask what you actually use it for? I use it for Rice Krispie treats!

I double and triple asked a few different people each time and i was directed to the same product. and since trying it, it is super tart...not sweet at all. What does the bottle of the pomegranate molasses look like and where is it usually? Just so I know for next time!

I just bought my first bottle. I got it at the Fruit and Vegetable market's Union Co-op. It was right next to the mayo bottles. It says grenadine molasses with a picture of a cut pomegranate on it. The word pomegranate isn't even on the bottle anywhere lol. It's a green label, looks like a glass coke bottle. I can check the bottle for the company and get back to you.

For a Brazilian back home I find it's the same. You "bare all" and you find your self helping the aesthetician by moving in different positions. The only difference is they use the Popsicle stick only once and get a new one with each wax application. They don't do that in many places here even though there's signs everywhere that they should.

I've used Bare Minerals for the last 7 years. I used to have very acne prone skin, but ever since I started using it I have no more breakouts from oily foundations. The only breakout, very minimal, is PMS related...! I used their foundation at first but slowly started getting all their products, love it all!

yes. there was a private access entrance from 77 now 57? but they closed it now due to more construction. when coming on the emirates road from sharjah, it saved a whole 10 minutes coming around through DG but unfortunately it's no longer accessible.

I use these ones. They are awesome because the part that goes in the pacifier is soft. All the ones I've seen here are hard plastic which irritate baby's face. They are super durable, the clip never opens on its own. I ordered it off of amazon but they have other retailers in the u.s. try their other products too, I love the sippigrip. http://booginhead.com/products/paci-grip edited by Chi2dxb on 28/02/2013

For a heavy duty cleaner I use half vinegar and half dish-washing liquid like Fairy. I use it for my toilet bowls, sinks, and tubs/showers. The longer you leave it on, the better. I used it in a corner of the shower that didn't get any sunlight and was really moldy. I left it on for a few hours and then sprayed it off with the "Muslim shower" and it literally peeled off! ew, but awesome haha I bought a few empty spray bottles from ace hardware and used one to make that bathroom solution and keep one in each bathroom. It also smells good and is safe! edited by Chi2dxb on 27/02/2013

They gave me a binder of pictures to look at it and asked which 1 to cut it like but I said keep his hairstyle the way it is just trim it because I didn't want anything new and they did a great job. Price was 35 aed. edited by Chi2dxb on 25/02/2013

Good detailed answer, Goro. My DH also says no women in graveyards, that there is a separate area for women at the three day post burial mourning area, with food etc. Another tid bit, your family will normally prepare your body for burial, so if I died my husband would wash and dress me. If he died, my eldest son, or his brother would prepare him for burial. Another tid bit, when DH gets back from the graveyard, he won't let the children touch him until he has had a shower and his clothes go straight to be washed. can this be right, DH washing wife's body? I am no expert so could be wrong but so sure I have read/heard that only female close relatives can attend to a deceased woman and same for men. Are there instances where the opposite is being allowed? This is surprising for me.... as I'd come to expect that the marital bonds cease upon death immediately and therefore touch is no longer allowed. Have I heard wrong? You've heard correct. the nikkah is no longer valid and he's no longer your mahram. I've never heard of the opposite gender doing the ghusl either.

I've always gone to graveyards. I was always encouraged to stay in the car but my parents would allow me to put flowers and such. Also, last summer my aunt passed away quite tragically 2 weeks before her son's wedding. she only had 4 sons, so me my other aunt (her sister) and her best friend did the washing of her body at the funeral home. Believe me, there's a big difference between a funeral home ...............and a Gulf mortuary. edited by Livelytrish on 23/02/2013 I should've mentioned this was back home. I'm sure they're plenty different here. I was just sharing that its the culture here that makes visiting graveyards and washing bodies here different Truly sorry for your loss. I agree with neamhai when she said you've always been a great EW! edited by Chi2dxb on 23/02/2013

Yep, mine is the same as Plum2's. The stovetop burners ignite with the push of the starter button and the turn of the knobs, but the oven has its own knob which I turn to the desired temperature and then light the bottom, through the little opening at the bottom with a "fireplace match".

this is one of my favorite, quick desserts. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Eclair-Cake/Detail.aspx i have yet to find honey graham crackers here, though. i tried it with some chocolate graham crackers i found, but it wasn't the same. also if you use a pan that's smaller than 13x9, make sure to add more layers than just two of the pudding/cool whip and crackers. trifles are also easy and versatile! cake, pudding, and fresh fruit layers. edited by Chi2dxb on 12/02/2013

It's def cheaper to order from the US. For my cooking tools, I use either Pampered chef, KitchenAid or OxO. Their quality is great. For baking pans and tins and ingredients, I use the Wilton brand. edited by Chi2dxb on 03/02/2013 edited by Chi2dxb on 03/02/2013

This happened to a LO I know even though he was sleeping the mom stepped out for a minute. She came back to him crying, sitting up on the floor. After that, no matter what, she made sure she kept him in the play pen to sleep or if she had to do something. In the beginning he wasn't used to it and would be a little upset but he got used to it after a couple of days. Better to have the baby safe at the end of the day. But do keep an eye on him, he should be ok though. Babies are resilient and forget and bounce back quickly! Lesson learned, right? It always takes personal experience to figure some things out, no matter how "common sense" they seem to be. edited by Chi2dxb on 30/01/2013

I'm pretty sure I've seen some at the big Spinneys in DSO and at the Organic Store in Dubai mall. I've also used this recipe and its worked out fine! To make two cups of cake-and-pastry flour (cake flour), combine 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour with 1/4 cup cornstarch; proceed with your recipe. The easiest way to do this substitution is to put 2 tbsp of cornstarch in the bottom of a 1-cup measuring cup, then fill the cup as usual with all-purpose flour and level top. Repeat process to get your two cups. If you only need 1/2 cup of cake flour, put 1 tbsp cornstarch in bottom of 1/2 cup measuring cup, then fill and level as above. http://low-cholesterol.food.com/recipe/cake-flour-substitute-87689 edited by Chi2dxb on 29/01/2013

I do the same as mrsg1. Use the 5 gallon masafi that comes to our house and use it at room temperature as needed. We don't have our dispenser plugged in, so it's always at room temp. I don't heat the formula once the Bottle is made. In the US our tap water is already clean and purified so nothing to do there! Ahh I miss my cool, refreshing Lake Michigan water!

Don't fret. Just feed him what he likes. As long as he's eating, anything is fine, especially since he's under a year old. Does he have teeth? You should mash it until he can chew.

It's not legally binding where they are living or islamically? In Islam, they should have had witnesses and signed the nikkah contract, but he sounds like he didn't want a paper trace and tricked her into getting married (for what? not sure). Usually, if a Muslim woman wants a divorce for whatever reason, she usually has to petition a judge and prove that he's not fulfilling his rights as a husband by being abusvie, but they would need some paperwork, I'm assuming. Her other option is a "khula", where she can give back her dowry to end the marriage (did she get one?). Regardless, there is a 3 month waiting period before they can Islamically separate and go their own ways, just in case they regret their decision but more so to make sure she's not pregnant.

I have yet to buy a pair of kids shoes here, but I highly recommend Stride Rite for the early walkers. I believe Pitter Patter in Dubai Mall carries the line, but their selection is not that extensive. I also love Crocs for the little ones just because they're so easy!

6 months back I got 2 bedding sets from Debenhams. They were all 800 thread count and very expensive but the quality lasted no more than a few washes. Can anyone please recommend a shop to buy good quality white bedding that wont cost an arm and leg? I recommend overstock.com all the time. I use the US site to buy all my sheets. They are hotel quality, > than 800 tc, last a LONG time, and are a really reasonable price. I've had a few sheet sets for over 5 years and they still look fresh when I put them on the beds. The satin stripe design is one of my favs. edited by Chi2dxb on 28/01/2013

I know how frustrating that is! How do you wake up? Is it because you have to go to the bathroom or you're hungry or is it abruptly? If it's because of the bathroom, limit your drinking to a few hours before bed. But, do try drinking a small, warm glass of milk before bed. Have you tried reading a boring book? That might help. I remember a couple of times when I was little, my mom gave me my math book to read when that happened and I was out like a light LOL Also, don't turn on any lights or doing any other stimulating activity, that'll just wake you up more. Thinking about a lot of things will also keep you awake, imagine a blank white wall or something and focus on that.
