the standard acceptable clothing in the gulf in General (not talking about Saudi, Qatar etc) is: Nothing above the knee Shoulders covered No low cut tops to expose cleavage Nothing see through or tight fitting this is pretty straight forward in my opinion A pretty summer dress with short sleeves and a hem to the knee worn with flip flops is fine...and hardly a bind to wear. No its not if you’re over 40 but what about everyone under 40 who wants to look young and trendy. Young and trendy = cheap and tarty?

I don't usually go looking for worst dressed, just mind my own business. But we were at a counter checking out at Carrefour in MOE and there was a woman with her ENTIRE BACK upto where her butt started, exposed in a MINI dress that barely covered her bum. That is a whole lot of flesh for a mall. I was so shocked I just stared agape. People were staring, trying not to look, were embarrassed. There was an Emirati family right behind the couple and they were all looking in different directions. There were kids with them. It was embarrassing. While I hope there won't be police yelling for a naked head, I wish people would know the difference between beach dressing and mall dressing.

Thanks McB. I will try to see her. Would you say she is progressive in her approach to treatment and does she go beyond conventional methods to understand what is going on with you ? Nikki63, keen on knowing how was it found out you were not converting T4 to T3. Is there a test for this?

Hello Nikki63, how was it found that you were not converting T4 to T3? I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and Hashimotos last year and have been on Thyroxine sodium since last 8 months. Funnily, I feel better the day I do not take the medication. My symptoms have remained the same and in particular, I am not losing weight even though my diet has been low calorie and low carb. I seem to be putting on weight instead. I am thinking I might have the same issue as you? Or something else not working quite right. Could you suggest someone I could see in Dubai who would go in depth into why I still have the same issues as I did when I was first put on Thyroxine? Thank you so much!

Oh and I am so sorry Debliz, got sidetracked seeing louisedvs! Oh I remember the small coke bottles, the black and white tv, milk bottles, no computers so playing in the streets without fear or care. And yes, we ate at home every day, family get togethers were often and mostly everyone made an effort to meet up and get along. Long, quiet, lazy summer days with just the sound of fluttering pigeons....I used to meet my cousins every summer till we were in high school and even after.....my DD hardly ever meets anyone from the extended family coz they are all far apart in their ages and locations...I wish she had seen those days...

Thank you Beebs!!! You are such an amazing help! Bless you!! I need small treats to keep me on track with healthy eating, so I do treat myself once a day :\: an after eight or a small dark chocolate square. Terrible I know! What works for me is reducing portions and eating about 6 times a day, which includes 2 snacks, which could be a 2 inches piece of string cheese (I don't measure, just approximate ;-) haven't gone that bonkers yet lol!!) and a few nuts (almonds and walnuts, about 3 to 4 pieces each. Or just the nuts or a small spoon of crunchy peanut butter. I love cheese!! :-( I do know that if I am too hard on myself I will just flip one day and eat a whole medium pizza :-/. I have to be sooo crafty with my head :-) Beebs, would you be so kind as to mail me on please? Just a couple of questions, promise.Thank you thank you so much! If you'd rather not, no issue at all. Loads hugs! xx edited by Chocobella on 19/04/2012

Hug sweet!! Yes am trying to lose weight and definitely need more muscle, this is a one off indulgence though, like once a week or so. Usually my snack would be a bit of cheese or nuts. Once a week once in 2 weeks will do much harm do you think? I love potato! :-(

Signed in to say, Beebers!!! Gosh that is EXACTLY how I feel! I LOVE the sounds around me...hate silences! I'm not dead and neither is the world so why should there be silence! And couldn't agree more, my heart jumps with joy when I spot blue clad movement on a building stopped midway during construction, it means it's all getting better, slowly, but surely, and it's soo reassuring. Lord has been so kind, at the right, my apartment looks at a beautiful upward curve of the road upto Silverine, a magical sight to behold as the lights come up in the evening, on the left is the blessed blue-green expanse of the sea and in the front, the lamp-dotted curve of the Marina where yachts laze.....I love this part of the Marina!

ha! Not weird; got one of those myself :) It's a good thing. good luck with your search! I can second that ;-) It's great to have a husband who loves to shop and go Mall hopping. Morning Beebs! x As for the traffic, Beebers is right, this side, the KG Tower side is fairly easy to get in and out of, not too much traffic, well, nothing that you can't handle, fairly quiet. We have one mosque coming up this side but that's the only construction I see. edited by Chocobella on 03/04/2012

:-) You will see a lot of Indians use this. In my interactions, I realized that the more urban an area a person comes from, the less likely is he/she to use this translation. Also, more men than women from the subcontinent are likely to use it.

Good name also has Indian roots. In India you don't just ask someone's name, you ask them their 'blessed' or 'good' name. The literal translation is What is your good name. It's a Hindi embellishment, a way of respect to the person whose name is being sought.

Licorice, you and I must be reading different posts then if you think she was joking. She is calling those with children degrading names and describing how miserable their life is and how wonderful hers is. She goes on to give a damning definition of the term she has used for parents which clearly shows it's a derisive term and then she wants to call mummy coz the horrid breeders are being so hard on her. Whatever pressures you are under, you DON'T need to insult those to whose side you do not belong. Did you get called barren just like that? Like, Hi, how are you? Do you have children? No I don't. Oh so you are barren! Like that? I doubt it. So you were wondering how did this thread get to this?

Angelina, if I referred to single people with no kids as the barren ones, do you think it would be tongue in cheek? Her response was offensive, bitter and condescending. 'breeders' just sums it all.

I am not going to engage with you lamali, you are disrespectful, rude and I have a strong feeling you are not very happy with your life if you need to use condescending words like 'breeders' for people who have children. You can profess your choices without needing to insult the group you don't belong to, it's usually a sure sign of you wish! Yes, detest is a strong word, it's a sentiment you have quite clearly conveyed from your response, using the words you did. Now you say you have no respect for such and such parents, so why start with "My deepest respect...." when you are actually despising them? And no, you did not offend me at all because you come across as rather immature at 40, and I daresay, even pathetic. My deepest sympathy for you.. edited by Chocobella on 01/04/2012

Thanks so much Beebs!! Hug! I went to Waitrose yesterday and got a slice of the Tasmanian, expensive :\:, but well. I found the Norwegian from Spinneys fattier than their Scottish, which I find very dry and often have trouble swallowing. So Norwegian would stand between Ikea and Scottish. Will try the Tasmanian now. Would you say canned salmon like the John West wild salmon would be better than fresh, as fresh is almost always farmed? And perhaps more calcium from the bones? Perces, thank you for the link. I lost a few kilos on a high protein low carb diet a few years ago in Dubai and since then, having moved back home, had managed quite well. Unfortunately, moving back here, I have given in to cravings way more than I allowed myself in the last few years and now have piled on a neat 4 kilos:( I will watch the video and see what I can learn. Thanks again.
