Mirdif is s lovely place to stay and u can find a wonderful home to rent well within the 170k budget. There is also a Canadian school in the community - OICS (Ontario international Canadian School)

Thanks Skyfall, no its just that I want to switch the current 2 pin to a 3. Both are European plugs. I'll try and look up electricians. Or check with ace, didn't think of that.

Hi Ladies, I know there have been so many posts on here about extending visit visas. My mum who's here on holiday (Canadian) wants to renew her visit visa for another 2 months. My questions are: 1. Can she just renew it with immigration directly? Or they do only do 30 days at a time? 2. Where can she otherwise exit the border - what the easiest hassle free option. And does that have to be done just on the 29/30th day or can we drive down earlier/ Any recent experiences / advice etc would be hugely appreciated!

Hi ladies, How much do u tip to have your hair done? I was charged 1300 yesterday and I tipped her 100 dhs but talking to a friend and perhaps in hindsight too - I thought maybe I tipped too much. Is there a cut off limit or is it 10 percent regardless? I know some might say it's like tipping waiters etc but they don't earn nearly as much as some stylists. Am curious to know what else is everyone tipping? (I also feel I was charged too much for what I did but that's another story altogether)

Hi Tia, SInce we cannot exchange the numbers here, can you give me more details and the minor things which you mentioned about OIC. Thx. regards. Sorry for the late reply DubaiNewcommer - OICS small issues (for me) were no handbook handed out till now even though we were told at the start it was coming - now I'm told they're 'editing' it. Have s feeling it just doesn't exist. No real policy on sick days etc - tried calling the school when my kid was sick phone lines were still switched off (this was after 8am) no one called to even see why she hadn't come in etc. Which is usually the norm when kids don't turn up to school and no reason provided. Other than that - the kids seem happy so - so far so good !!! :) if you're happy and the kids liked the place go ahead

i am too - and am open to suggestions. Was looking at this company who seems to do some pretty comprehensive stuff. Does anyone have any feedback or can recommend them? It needs to be in the mornings though - as many other places offer afternoon classes which won't work as I get my kids from school. http://www.cakestorydubai.com/contact_us.html#

My 2 daughters are with OICS. They are ok, being a new school there are a few hiccups but nothing major that we can't get over. Our main criteria was that we are Canadian and were looking for a Canadian curriculum. Price wise they are a little more than Star (which came a close 2nd) but our girls are happy there and they have great after school activities etc. Teachers are all Ontario certified which is good. My suggestion is speak to each - go during a school day so you get a feel for each one. Good luck and if u need to reach out for more info - just ask and I will be happy to send you my #. PS - there is a GEMS in Mirdif, you wouldn't need to look as far as Oud Metha. www.royaldubaischool.com

If you're close to Mirdif - there's a store in Arabian Centre. Forget the name but they are right opposite Lifestyle and they have a ton of them.

Saw it in action and was impressed. I think I would fork out the money. Dysons are for life. Have a vacuum I bought in 2009 and it is still going strong.

If this is the same Stafford Associates in Knowledge Village - they are affiliated to a few good colleges / units. I did a course with a uni in the UK through them so yes I would say worth it.
