they get comfortable and start to throw their weight around - I would flat out say if she was having a problem working for you / under your terms you could let her off the hook if she thought she'd get it better elsewhere. That might put her in her place. Why not offer to pay her more for working the Eid days? That might make it more appealing (?)

I got some from Zara for my nephew - the suspenders come with the pants. And a bow tie I bought with a shirt recently from H&M. (a month ago) it came with the shirt. Although, Zara too might just have them.

Hello, Has anyone seen the mini shopping trolleys (not the super tiny ones which stationery fit in) and not the ones that kids use to play with. The smallish/medium ones which fit on a countertop and could be used to put fruit in / act decorative?

My 3 year old is seriously addicted to the thumb habit. She has been sucking her thumb from the time she was born and seems to want to do it almost all of the time to the point now where it is affecting her teeth. I have tried to stick a bandaid on her finger but she just pulls it off; we've also tried that nasty tasting nail polish and she seems fine in the day but during her night's sleep, her thumb just seem to find her mouth and she ends up sucking it anyway, nasty taste and all. I do understand the emotional factors tied in to thumb sucking but at the same time I hear stories if I stop it now she'll thank me later for this tough love etc. It seems we've tried it all, do I just let her continue until she's ready to stop and let it mess up her teeth or.............?? I just don't know what to do. Am I over thinking this one too much? Has anyone had any experience in dealing with this and overcoming it? Any advice appreciated.

We just got some latches from ACE and got the hubby to put them up on our balcony door quite high where they can't reach. That way it is just accessible for adults.

Hi ladies, has anyone seen a miniature shopping trolley which can also act as a countertop fruit basket / storage basket. I did seen these around a while back but can't seem to remember where. They are made of steel and smaller than the mini ones they sell for child's play. They can be used on countertops / tables. Here's a pic to get an idea......http://www.aplaceforeverything.co.uk/home-storage/fruit-bowl-shopping-trolley Thanks, any help appreciated. x

I have tried the clipless ones and unless you're a pro - they are a struggle (not to mention that burns I got trying one out - even with a glove!) Apricot - you mentioned weak wrists - have you tried the Rowenta Curl Active - it basically rotates and curls your hair for you at the press of a button. http://www.rowentabeauty.ca/products_curlactive.html I have seen and tried the product out at Carrefour, and the curls lasted all day. You can try it out there and decide to buy it later. Retails for 300 dhs.

Hello ladies, can anyone recommend a decent / reasonably cheap tailor for alterations in the Satwa / Jumeirah area? I have heard of Coventry tailoring being good but does anyone know where they might be located in Satwa? (driving instructions possibly?) Thanks!

I took my DD to the one at DFC .....she loved it. We both wished the classes were longer than half an hour but it was her favourite activity of the week when she was younger so yes worth it.

My DD is 12 months and receiving her's next week. We live in Canada but come to Dubai on and off to visit family. We don't need the vaccine there because they screen for tuberculosis whereas in this part of the world they don't and hence it is recommended getting it. Because we may move here at some future point, we have decided to get the vaccine for her. I personally feel, it is always best to get vaccines, especially the recommended ones. Why wouldn't you?

Same trouble with my little girl - you can switch formulas. We are on Aptamil. Doc again swore it was the fact that she wasn't eating enough veggies but she was - so!! There you have it. Also speak to a pharmacy about a Lactulose solution - Duphalac is great and has helped my little girl feel much better. I just add it to her bottle of milk / water and its helped us get past the tears and strains! :)

I hate to so this but I think (mum of 2) that thats what life is like - at least - for a while with babies / children. All about routine really. You could try applying for work and then thinking of what to do in terms of caring for your little one if you find something. I too am bored and would love to do something else but when I really think about - I love caring for my 2 LOs - I don't think this will last long once they start school so am really making the most of it and trying to enjoy it for now.

I paid money to a sponsor so he would release a lady and let her come and work for me legally. He said it was to recoup some of his costs incrued by bring the maid here a few years ago. I did this after she made it clear that if she was sent back to the Phillipines her (ex) husband would see her and beat her. She was afraid for her life so I made arrangements to ensure she could come and work for me without having to go back to the Phillipines. Call that what you like. edited by DesertRose1958 on 27/03/2012 Well done DesertRose! Agree!

They are very big in North America and I often see the A.B. advertised there a lot. A friend uses it and says it provides fantastic back support. Perhaps you could read online reviews and see if it helps. There are those that love it / hate it.

If the mind is set to "spanking as a last resort", is the real motivation there to fully exploit the non-violent methods? I dont know, I've never had physical pain as an option and cannot compare. So I do not know if spanking actually is easier on a parent? If it's culturally respected, does it leave them with the same feeling of pride than successful disciplining with non-violent methods? Probably in spanking, there is not the same amount of searching, problem solving, or pondering about effectiveness of age-appropriate techniques invested. So, what's effectiveness? What??? You lost me there...... I am a very patient person.......I mean VERRRYY but when my 2 Los have pushed all my buttons, they do get smacked on their bottoms. No it goes not make me feel great or satisfied - but I get the results I want. And I love my 2 kids very much, we are extremely close so ti feel the odd whack, when deserved, does not hurt in their upbringing. And yes there is a very big difference between physical abuse and a disciplinary tap on the bum. So please stop being so judgemental you mums who think you know better.
