There doesn't seem to be a standard set of rules to everyone follows and nurseries are outside of the khda rulings if I remember correctly so you would need to check your contract that you probably had wen you enrolled your daughter. You should get them back or.....worst case you may have to give a terms notice so wave goodbye to one of your cheques. If you can find one one o take your place then you have a much better chance of getting your money back. Good luck.

We are in The Ranches and love it, but our LL is not going to renew the contract,we have a decision to make a.Can we find a house with a pool that we can afford in AR? or b.Do we give up the amenities here and get a villa with a pool, at The Villa. i have already visited 3 at The Villa and yes, they are great houses with pools and both kids go to school in Silicon Oasis, but........................; Jut seen this - if you don't mind me asking - why is your landlord not renewing your contract? Do you have a contract that clearly states non renewable? If it does not say non renewable then he has to renew your contract. Has he adhered to the correct notice to get you out? As rents are increasing many landlords are going to try to get tenants out so they can charge more rent but you are protected and you have rights to stay. This happened to us twice and twice we went to the rent committee and twice we got to stay, remember that not only will you probably end up having to pay more rent but you also have the expense of the moving costs too. If you think he's trying it on then he probably is and you will have the right to stay. Sorry to take this thread in a different direction but I always feel strongly that often people are not aware that tenants do have protection. It's money in your pocket to stay on - not in a landlords. Please do check your contract before moving out as you could find that you have every right to stay where you are.

Just interested - why Dubai? You won't find many flat shares advertised because I believe it's not legal to share - you have to have sponsorship and have your own lease agreement but that might have changed.....

why don't you wipe her eyes yourself and pop her in the sink for a quick wash to freshen her up. It will become a pain to have to book her in all the time. I pop my 2 little dogs in the sink and use some puppy shampoo - give them a little rub down and rinse them. Wrap them up in a towel - towel dry them and a quick flick with the brush and they are gorgeous and smell lovely! It takes 10 minutes top! I do get them groomed probably every 4-5 months for a hair cut and nail trim and they look amazing but there's no way I would take them every week. As you have chosen a breed that does have wet eyes you will need to wipe them every day to keep them clear.

Quite a few people have moved from AR to The Villa as the rents at AR were going up but I don't think The Villa has it's play areas ready - perhaps someone there can update but I know quite a few people there with young children. My friends who live at The Villa have playdates in their gardens which are big and there does seem to be a good social scene there. Just another thought - if you know which school your little one will be going to then move as close to that as you can and you'll have lots of playdates from local kids from the school. 3 of my friends moved to the Villa from AR but have now all now moved back to the Ranches The Ranches has so much to offer - I loved it there.

The fresh Mexican salsas in spinneys are fabulous I would always have a couple in the fridge. I also always have some cream cheese in the fridge. Take it out and give it a quick mix to loosen it spread it on a flat plate nad drizzle on top some Thai sweet chill dipping sauce - super easy and an absolute winner every time.

You don't use the mill bit you use the wand part for smooth lump free purees. I use mine to make coulis now as my kids are no longer babies but you don't need any other equipment you've got it all there. Cook some carrots and have a go - its really easy but worth having a few trial runs. I used to use ice cube trays and freeze a whole load so i was only pureeing once a week. Cook some apples and purée them and some pears. My little boy loved carrots and pear mixed together so I would just get out one cube of each - at least you know what they are getting. Good luck and happy pureeing! edited by Clairehdp on 15/04/2013

Getting a school place as the others have mentioned s going to be tricky so you will need to start calling ASAP. This list may help you. Enjoy your new adventure. Where are you moving from? I am back in the uk now so if its the uk I am very happy to help you to make the move a tiny bit less stressful. http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_faqs_school_fees_6135.aspx how long have you been back in the UK ?? 18 months Pikachu! but am back there quite often and my husband is there most months - so doesn't really feel like we've really left! well, you haven't left the forum !! lol can I ask why you left if you both still spend so much time here ? Sure - my husband lost his dad and then my Dad passed away unexpectedly which was pretty hard to deal with from so far away from family. My mum was not coping at all well so we made the decision to come back. It's really nice though to be able to help those coming out for the first time from here in the UK - I've met some really great people who are moving over. I had a great little holiday catching up with my lovely friends there last month and it was like I'd never been away!

Seen it in Spinneys, Geant and Waitrose, you should have no difficulty finding some. I thought those were fake? I'll have a look at them, though, thanks. Fake cheese! Sounds like you're in Karama!!!! Definitely can get it in spinneys and Waitrose prepacked and on the cheese counter I used to buy it all the time.

Lulus always have a good selection. I think I bought mine from DG Sharaf at times square - they have a big selection. I use my braun one all the time for grinding spices, for blending foods, whipping cream etc. I got the one that also has attachments that you can use to whip cream etc. It's a stick like wand type and you use the blender with the wand attachment. this is the one I have and I've had it for about 4 years - It's great! http://www.braun.com/en_ap/household/food-preparation/hand-blenders/multiquick-1.html

People deal with birthdays in so many different ways. I know families who don't make a big deal about a birthday but we always make it a special day for the birthday person. We always bought our housemaid a card, a phone card, a cake and small gift (hair ties, hair clips, shower gel, body lotion, nail varnish etc etc She told me that she had never had a birthday present before- she was 31! One year her birthday fell on a Friday her day off. I knew she had arranged to meet her sisters and cousins in Safa park for a picnic so we went there with a big bucket of KFC and some big bottles of coke - found them in the park all chilling out and having fun. She could not believe that we had arrived armed with treats and her friends all loved it too. We should all know when our housemaid's birthday is as we all have their passports when doing the sponsorship paperwork. I would put the date in my diary and the very least would be a card and a phone card so they can phone home on their special day. I would hate to miss someone's birthday especially someone who is living with our family.

My little girl is 8 - I think it's probably a very good time to tell her. I really like what Lillybucket has written - and I'm sure she's right - you will worry about it all far more than your daughter. My husband has a step mum so our children have 3 sets of grandparents - we just told them when they were really tiny that they were just super lucky to have 3 sets of grandparents. It's only now that my little girl has been asking so who is actually Daddy's mummy? She's starting to ask how my husband has 2 mums! Not in a bad way but just an enquiring way and wanting to put everything in little boxes in her brain. We've kept it really simple and she's been happy with the answers and just moves on with whatever she's doing. It's almost like she's just dotted the i's and crossed the t's. You may well find that your little girl will ask questions later once she's got it in her brain and wants to have it sorted. I wouldn't leave it later to tell her as I'm sure then it will become a much bigger issue for you both. Keep it factual and simple and assure her just how much she is loved and how special she is to the man she calls Daddy. good luck - I don't envy you but most times those moments we dread so much go so much better than we can ever imagine. Let us know how it goes.

Maybe there wasn't enough demand because magnolia used to be a proper restaurant where you could book a table at. I never went as I am not a vegetable lover but a couple of vegetarian friends used to go there and always raved about how fresh and delicious the food was and they were sorry when it closed. You'll just have to keep on going to talise!!....

There not many beach hotels actually located at the beach. Depending on the budget, she could try Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Hilton Beach Hotel, Meridien, Sheraton. The usual suspects really. There are loads of hotels on the beach Sheraton jum beach Hilton jum beach, Le meridian mina seyahi Le royal meridian Habtoor grand Ritz Carlton Westin, One and only royal mirage, Al qasr Mina Salam Jum beach hotel, Dubai marine resort Kempinski the palm Fairmont the palm Zabeel saray Atlantis And.....of course the burj al Arab!..... If it was me I would book the dar al masyaf villas at al qasr - the nicest place ever (imo!) However I loved zabeel saray (not stayed there overnight though) You also have the new Jebel Ali international hotel ocean view not right on the beach but on the walk and you get a free shuttle out to jebel Ali resort which I love! Also on the walk right by the public beach don't forget you have the Sofitel, the amwaj Rotana and the Movenpick and I'm sure I've missed some others. Best thing to do is to check out what deals there are. If they are only staying for a couple of nights and really want to be on a beach you can't beat the jumeirah group hotels imo.

You can also hire out te captain jacks boat but I have no idea how much that would cost but it would be a pretty good way to celebrate.

Ooooh Petal - where are you going? Our last brunch when we left Dubai was Al Qasr with a group of special friends. It was a toss up between Al Qasr and the Westin's bubbalicious but we were staying at Al Qasr and so we chose there and it was fabulous. We also had quite a few kids and they had a good time too. Yalumba is great for just adults wanting a very lively boozy brunch - I really liked it there but Al Qasr and Westin better if kids are coming too. Good luck in your next adventure!

Thanks penny, thats really helpful!! Could anyone give me a day to day of what their maid does...this is what is worrying me, making sure my house is clean and tidy.... Sit down and write down exactly what you would want from a housemaid. I did a chart for the fridge that detailed what was needed to be done each day. For example which beds should be washed on which day, which day the children had activities so their equipment was ready etc etc. I suggested to her that she mop the floors upstairs one day and the next day mop the floors downstairs but she found it easier to just mop everything as she went through the villa. She had a little girl of her own and loved babysitting and helping me with the children. I didn't work so my time was spent looking after the children and her role was primarily housekeeping. She was lovely, happy and even though we have left Dubai we are in contact most weeks still. I found on interviewing that the maids who have been in Dubai for a while know how to work the system and ask for high salaries and short working weeks. I had 2 housemaids in the time I was in Dubai both new to Dubai. I spent time with them showing them how I liked jobs to be done and helped teach them how to cook basic family meals. I think if you spend time and help and oversee their work right at the start if you can it will pay dividends in the future. When I was looking I really wanted a housemaid who had had a child themselves. It was my housemaid who confirmed to me that my little girl had chickenpox when I wasn't sure as I had not seen it before but she had and she was fantastic. there are some lovely ladies out there who will work with you and help you but be aware - there are some horrors - you really need to go with your heart when interviewing - don't let them boss you around! Remember you are the employer.

The housing fee is 5%of your rent. If you need a reception place for your child you really need to cll the schools as most will have lready done their assessments ad offered places to children. As for a housemaid there are agencies you can use if you do a search on here you will find lots of info. Springs is nice - there are other lovely places too - where will your DH be based as its better o live as close to the office as you can and then get a school close by too. Good luck!

A villa is just mother term for a house. You will find when you get there tat everyone calls a house a villa. You are best finding somewhere to live close to work and schools. Depending on the age of your children you should be getting school places as soon as you can many year groups especially early years have long waiting lists. You say you can afford mirdif and springs but there are many more communities now available that you could consider ie silicon oasis, the Villa, jumeirah triangle, jumeirah park. Where are you moving from? We are now back in the uk if you are moving from the uk I'm very happy to help with any questions.

You're right no one is going to ring the bell! you have to make a big effort and get yourself out and about it can be hard but its sooooo worth it. And the ew coffee mornings are a great start. Is there a community forum for where you live? Arabian ranches have a ladies group that meet regularly, when we lived on jumeirah islands there was a ladies group which was good fun and i met some super friends through that. There are charities who would love you to help and you will meet some lovely people through that. There are book clubs - i was not a big reader but loved my book club meetings once a month which meant going to a members villa in the evenings and chatting about the book and enjoying meeting new people and of course having a little drink too! 4 months is not long you are still in the settling in period but now is the time to take a look at whats out there and see if you can join in. Remember everyone has been in your shoes and most are very understanding of what you are feeling and will go out of their way to help you and.....in time.....you will find a few very special people .

So sorry to hear about your friend. She is lucky to have you visit her and im sure as others say just having you there will be lovely for her. I would take some lovely hand cream, a nice lip balm (.my friend said her lips got so dry after treatment). I would go in with lots of lovely glossy magazines and a special cupcake to share with her over a nice cup of hospital tea. If you haven't seen her for a while take in some photos that she can dip into when she feels good you can write funny messages on the back so she can smile and remember funny times when shes on her own. Enjoy your time together xxx

As far as the weather is concerned..we are 30 mins away from London and it's not cold but it is wet! The forecast for easter in the London area is mixed dry, cloudy and showers but not freezing cold. here is a link you can use for both Manchester and London - gives a pretty good long range forecast and has, in the past, been pretty accurate. http://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/london/ec2v-7/daily-weather-forecast/328328?day=11 It's bright today and no rain where I am and it's mild - lovely day for being outside and walking around. Just make sure you pack a waterproof and some good walking shoes! London Eye is good and you can take the buggy on there - London Bus tour is good too. Science Museum is fun as your little one can press buttons in there. London is a beautiful city and a lovely one to stroll around. Even just walking up past Harrods and looking at their windows is great. I would go in and take your little one to an ice cream in the ice cream parlour. Lots of lovely parks to stroll around too. I also love Manchester centre - always things going on when we are there. Enjoy your vacation.

I would go back to the LL and tell him that what he has done is not in accordance with the law - if he wants you out perhaps he would pay your relocation fees as they soon mount up and you have to pay new agents fees etc. Moving is an expensive thing to do in dubai and these guys should not just chuck you out.... as you have been told - he had to give you a years notice in writing. He probably knows this too and is just trying it on in the hope you had no idea. Good luck!

We fitted baby locks on the kitchen cupbpoards so little fingers could not get into the cupboards with cleaning items but not as early as 6 months. It was only when ours were on the move and into everything that we had an afternoon of making it babyproof. Everything else just was moved up a level! Is your little one really moving around and getting into cupboards yet?

Definitely buy and pack kids swimwear - it's much cheaper here in the UK than in Dubai. The factor 40+ and 50+ suits are half the price in the UK. Stock up with suncream too especially when Boots do their 3 for 2 as again it's much cheaper and you will use lots of it! If you have a specific hair colour you like to use it's worth asking on here is it's available - if not - stock up on that. We copied onto dvd loads and loads of UK kids telly for our little boy who was around 3 when we went over. that was a life saver as he saw all the programmes he was used to watching so not a big change for him at all other than it was hotter outside! Definitely pack some lovely cardigans - and yes, it can get chilly in the evenings in the winter so you would probably get use of your boots but hats and scarves will only be needed in Ski Dubai! The only thing I used to get sent over with visitors was Medised but I don't think you can buy that anymore. Calpol is available but if there's a shortage I would make sure you take a couple of bottles with you. You can get soooo much more now than a few years ago so there's not so much that you will miss. If there's something you feel you can't live without then pack a whole lot of it (but make sure it's not on the 'not allowed' list). Enjoy your time in Dubai

We lost our cat in Ar ( we found her 10 days later ). I went down to the security building with flyers and asked if all the security guards could be given a flyer. I dropped flyers at our gat nd the 2 either IDE of us and asked for the gardeners coming into the immunity o be given one. I out one up in Geant on their notice board. I offered a reward. My housemaid put te word out on the maid network. We hand delivered the flyer to every villa. I got calls where people thought they had seen her. One such call made us revisit an area again late at night and she was found. She was a bit thin but fine. Good luck. Get her picture out there and people will call you if they think they've seen her. I hope you find her soon xx edited by Clairehdp on 08/03/2013

I never changed my passport when I got married so I have a different name to my husband and our children. It was never a problem. I often travelled in and out of Dubai and the UK with the children on my own and never had a problem. For your residency you have to send in attested copies of your wedding certicate so it shows clearly that I was married. As far as the cat is concerned - we bought out our 12 year old cat and she was fine. She was an outdoor cat in the UK but after she felt the heat outside she chose to become a pampered indoor cat! We used Airpets from the UK who then worked with Alison from the Dubai Doghouse who cleared her through at the airport and delivered her to our villa. I can't remember how much it all cost but it was a few years ago. good luck! Sounds like you've got some good advice and up to date advice on the process for bringing your daughter with you from Londonlady2212

How funny! Can you imagine if it was chicken ribs! It's actualy as much as you can eat chicken (pieces of chicken) and very very good ribs. When I was last there they brought a platter of chicken and ribs and just kept checking to see if we wanted more - great night out - I think 110/120 dhs. edited by Clairehdp on 05/03/2013

The Grand Grill have fab ribs. Not sure if they still do it but they used to do chicken and ribs on a tuesday which were great. Your son will then also have them sing their Grand Grill Birthday song!
