She is the sponsor's responsibility. If she gets pregnant you will need to let her go and get her back to her home country. You should get her a government health card but her medical expenses should be paid by you. I suggest you understand exactly what the costs etc will be before you employ one. If you go into an immigration office ask them for a copy of the domestic workers employment contract as that details all the responsibilities of the employer (you or your husband) or maybe someone can put one up on this site if they have one. As it sounds like you are new to recruiting a housemaid please be careful and do not take on a housemaid on a part time basis unless she is through a housemaid agency - taking on part timers is illegal - they must be under your sponsorship or through an agency and the fine has just increased to 100K dhs if you are caught with an illegal worker.

If they are travelling with a 2 year old I would go for a direct flight - not one with a stop. Virgin are also really good with kids.

I used to order name tapes from UK for my kids. I put first daughter's name followed by surname and then second daughter's name. Then I just turned back the name I didn't need before sewing. Saved putting in two orders. That is such a clever idea - wish I had thought of that.....next time.....next time!!!!!!!

Which resturants have private rooms? I can only think of Celebrities (who are being rubbish) and Mezzanine? Grand Grill at the habtoor grand has a lovely library type private room - seats about 20 I think. Or - every hotel will do private catering in a private room.

Hi, we've stayed at Zighy Bay and although it was lovely and very remote, we found the food and drink to be extortionate, far more so than even Dubai's priciest. We went anticpating to pay top whack, but it was so expensive it really took the edge off our stay (500AED ish for 2 very average kebabs for dinner and 1 G&T). As an alternative we had a lovely break in a pool villa at Qasr al Sarab (about a 3 hours drive from Dubai) and negtiated a great deal that included dinner and breakfast. Would definitely go back there....! My sister stayed there and had a pretty awful time. Gorgeous resort but they need to get their act together - we had mouldy bread there!!!!

Did you get any reply from the wife of your husband friend? NOOOO!! But it seems the husband may allow us to question her, let's see. I bet she has texts and numbers on her phone.......there's no way that she's not in touch with her otherwise she'd be beside herself with worry. good job you're only missing a little frying pan could have been a whole lot worse - but it makes Yani a thief too.

I have seen quite a few ladies in Juans salon have them done and they look amazing. I had one as a trial and it was fine - but I didn't want to go long - was thinking about having a few instead of highlights but my hair is so thick anyway I decided against it. He has a few different brands - worth popping in and having a chat with him he's in Indigo tower at Jumeirah Lake towers - right by the metro.

I think Id cards are being issued at visa renewal now...... How can that be so, when thousand still don't have them? The last communication was that the deadline is scrapped, Nationals have to get their ID cards by 30th June 2011 and expats can get theirs on renewal of their visa, but all must be done before 2013. Exactly what I said Jules.......they can get theirs on renewal of their visa........ LOL ooops my eyes aren't working today I read 'used' not 'issued' my bad. Better go get some glasses :/ lol!

the easiest way for you to find out is to ask the security guards which companies come into your community. Then get on the phone and call them! the guards are always a great source of information.

I use permanent marker pen on the water bottles and iron on labels on the clothes. I order my labels on line from the UK as they are cheaper but you can get them done at Magrugys here. there's also a company that does all types of labels here called stuck on you.

To the OP: You WILL find an airline that will transport your Llasa, I promise you. I used Airpets [from the UK but they are an international company'> to transport my two shih tzu [v.similar to llasas'> and I was pretty much given the pick of airlines from which to choose. We ended up choosing BA because the timing was right. What the airlines [i'>will [/i'>do is put your pet into a larger pet transporter/container so that more air circulates within the space, but apart from that, you should have no worries. Seriously, I would contact a reliable pet cartage company to get better advice than you've received so far. Good luck. :) ETA: I also consulted with my vet who assured me that it's been a long time since dogs with snub noses [like shih tzus'> have been 'at risk' from flying, well, apart from the usual risk that we all take when putting our animals in cargo on a plane. ;) edited by WaxMuch on 04/01/2011 I agree - I too used Airpets - they were superb and really knew what they were doing. Everything was like clockwork. They recommended the Dubai Doghouse too and they were superb - delivered our adorable cat right to our door for us after doing the clearance at the airport!

Assess your pet's readiness for air travel. The United States Department of Agriculture ("USDA") regulates air transportation of pets and requires that all pets be at least 8 weeks old and weaned at least five days prior to flying in order to be transported by air. We strongly recommend that you err on the side of safety and not transport any pet under 12 weeks of age. Additionally, ill, very nervous, pregnant, or older pets should not be transported by air. Certain breeds including Boston Terrier, Bulldog, Boxer, Chow Chow, Lhasa Apso, Pekinese, Pug, and ShihTzu dogs, as well as Himalayan and Persian cats should not be transported by air as these breeds are more susceptible to breathing difficulties caused by the thin air at altitude. http://www.takeyourpet.com/pages/air.htm I have friends who have pets here and many of them are the breeds listed - pugs, pekinese, lhasa Apso, shihtzu, boxer and persian cats and all have flown over - does sound a bit extreme to me (and I'm a pet lover and one who flew her cat over here). some have also left and flown back from Dubai and all have been fine.

to answer your Qs regarding finding places.......it is next to impossible to find places in older well established schools specially in certain year groups (age 4+, 7+ and 11+ for example) but the newer IB schools like Repton, a new Gems one cant remember name (and maybe also Greenfield?) seem to have no space issues. Repton is only IB in senior school - not early years or primary......

I have a voucher that I cannot use and would love to trade it for another voucher for TipsNToes with a similar value..maybe Pedicure and Manicure- or alternatively to sell it... Ask them if you can have a different service for the voucher - much easier. I'm sure they will do that for you.

I don't buy clothes for our housemaid but maybe if you took your girl on and provided her clothes then perhaps she thought this was the normal thing. I know very few people who buy their housemaids clothing and would be very surprised if all her friends have their clothes bought for them - unless they are provided with a work uniform.

I love Godiva fresh in Brussels, not sure how well they transport this far? Is there a Leonidas here, they're v good Belgian chocs, too? Less cream than Godiva, I think, so travel better, maybe? I prefer both these brands to Jeff de Bruges, but that's just me. I'm pretty sure there's a Leonidas in Ibn Battuta mall opposite Geant, next to the smoking shop - I'm sure I've bought easter bunnies from there before for the kids and yes....the chocolates are divine.

I know it is a long shot but my son seems a lot more ready for primary school than I expected and I can't get a place before September, does anyone know of a primary school that has places starting now? many thanks Surely if he's not due to start into year 1 until september it's a reception place you are looking for? I agree with Cornish Pixie - get on the phone and call around - there have been quite a few people leave this christmas and, as CP says the Australian schools school year starts in Jan so that's when the Australians tend to head back. good luck - you may well be surprised and can get him in.
