My housemaids wear uniforms while working. Not the ugly ready made ones. I have special uniforms I designed tailored in fashionable colours, durable fabric and beautiful designs with lace and they look very elegant. The only input my housemaid gives is if she would like to work in a dress or in trousers. My cook wears dress uniforms with a hair net and my other housemaid chooses to wear trousers. My housemaids love their uniforms so much that they don't want to change and wear their own clothing in the afternoons/evenings after all the housework has been finished. All my house guests compliment the Uniforms and always ask where I purchased them (thinking they are from a very expensive designer uniform shop) They do not wear their uniforms when going out with me. Uniforms are only for housework so they don't dirty their own cloths. I also have designed aprons to make sure the Uniforms don't get damaged with clorox or other cleaning chemicals. Each employer has their own rules so it will depend on each household if there is a uniform or not. Would you mind sharing a picture of the Uniform, I am quite intrigued and think it might also be an option for us.

I know where you are coming from. We just had that very same conversation a few days ago. Where is the Dubai gone we used to love. Live has become so much more difficult. Each and everything is a battle and on top of it extremely expensive. When we arrived everyone was happy, life was just great but it changed and I can't see it coming back. But then the question comes, where do you go from here? Is life going to be better elsewhere? Or is the world generally changing and this is what it's going to be. Wish you good luck with your decision.

Maybe a better option Silverstet and might have a look into that option. The ideal solution would probably be a part time nurse, but don't have a clue where to look for someone like that.

We went to Khatt Springs Hotel a couple of years ago before it was taken on by Golden Tulip and the Spa at the time was great. Everything else was not, however it kind of was so crazy that it was funny again...we still talk about the stay there and call it our "Faulty Towers" experience ;-)

I am looking for service whereby someone comes to my friends house everyday for about 1-2 hours to make sure that she is ok. Maybe do some cooking, change the bed sheets etc, just like what I know from back home with the Red Cross and the likes. Any recommendations would be great. Emirates Home Nursing http://emirateshomenursing.ae/ There will be a fee but I cant tell you how much Thanks sarahlou, I know of them but they don't work just 1-2 hours a day. They want a full 6 hours each day which is just not needed. They however did offer me two hours for the same price of 6 hours?!?

I guess it depends on how the contract is written. Our contracts states "Housing Allowance as per the policy" So they don't change the contract but the policy.

We had the most wonderful maid until about 2 months ago and then something changed. I don't want to get into it but I feel it is time that we need to replace her for the sake of our children who spend a lot of time with her due to both of us working. It would be great of you ladies to let me have any recommendations, ideally someone with a driving license. ;)

I have paid 10,000 dhs to a school to secure a school place. Now we will not be able to send our child to that school, as we have to move to another part of Dubai and the travel time will be too long. I know it says non refundable, but I would like to know if anyone ever managed to convince a school to return it? It's so much money to loose, especially when we have to fork out for the security deposit for the new school on top of it. I wish you good luck with this task as I don't think schools are very flexible in returning money especially when you are staying in the country. Would it not be an option to maybe do 1 Term or bite the bullet and commute for a year and then change? I know that it is not ideal, but 10K is a lot of money.

We are moving to Dubai in a few weeks time and I'm looking for a language therapist for my 2 year old. He has been diagnosed with a speech delay here in the UK but will not have time to start the sessions he's been referred to before we go. Does anyone know where I could take him? Thanks! So how much does a 2 year old have to speak? My almost 2 year old is a very happy child but isn't talking yet apart from a few words and a few abbreviated words but I'm sure she will talk in due course. My brother as well as my friends little boy didn't start talking until they were 3 both are non-stop talkers now. I find 2 very young to introduce a speech/language therapist and believe that in sensitive children the delay might be even longer due to the additional stress they are exposed to. I personally would seek a second opinion.

Over all our years and race years here. Our kart chassis were originally stored at Jebel Ali Kart track, then Dubai Autodrome, but now in our workshop at home with their extensive equipment, wardrobes of all of our families helmets, suits, rib protectors, boots and gloves...... Again.... Big sigh! Yes, owning your karts is best then you are sure of the Maintainance on it is set up for the driver. However there are certain series that you can compete in where you rent karts to race and maintainance done but the club. But not the same as being yours..... Thanks so much Solo for all the input. Not sure how busy you are or your DH, but we would love to have a chat to get a bit of an idea what to expect. If you are interested just send me a mail on germanbritteam at yahoo dot co dot uk

I will check it all out and discuss at home. As we are completely new to this field apart from the odd arrive and drive session any help is great. Our DS is now 5 and he is just mad about the idea. It would be great if he could try it first, but the age is not on our side and we were told that one has to own the kart. Where do you keep all your racing gear?

Dragon Mart... Though I have to admit once we'd bought it I had it well checked over as some of the ones in the shop didn't seem quite up to spec. This one has been fine though. Otherwise I seem to recall that the Gokart track in MotorCity could supply them (but were more costly). I'm not sure we'd go to DragonMart for any faster models once they're old enough for them but in this case it was good. HTH thanks lovingthesun, may I ask if you bought the gocart for competitive reasons or just for fun. My DS wants to do racing so just trying to find my feet how to go about without going bankrupt ;)

As I'm working I don't get to chose if here or away, but have to say that I really like Dubai's emptiness in the summer. Also stay-cations are great during that time as the hotels have some fantastic deals on as well as the service seems to improve during this time. Dubai will be as good as you make it ;)

I hear that Hartlands day is rather long 8-4pm. I think this is way too long for children under 11 years old. In my experience I dont think the school matters as they are all much of a muchness, it matters what you do at home with your child (under 11 years). I would chose a school that finishes early so you have more time to teach them at home and for the child to have hobbies out of school. Am completely with you and having gone through a system where the school day finished at 1pm I know how lovely it is to spend more time with the family. Unfortunately most schools do have longer days here than back home.

Firstly Congratulations. Doctors and clinics can be quite daunting here but I would just go with my gut feeling. I don't know either of the doctors you mentioned but without insurance I would opt for a hospital intern doctor as the charges are slightly lower. A friend of mine gave birth at the Al Zahra hospital and she was very pleased with the services received before, during and after and the cost was very reasonable compared to others.

I feel for your and wish you the best of luck. My DH just gone through the same, also the same field as you, and it took him probably about 70 applications and 20 interviews to eventually get a job after 9 months. It is very frustrating when you invest the time to see people and they don't even find it necessary to contact you with an answer either way. However, times are tough again in Dubai and the low oil prices are certainly not helping in this part of the world so no one really wants to make a decision. Once again good luck and hang in there.

In case anyone thinking about buying it. The new one is only valid April 2015 - Dec 2015. It will make sense for the new book that it can start the same date as the other ones, but I was a bit surprised! Thanks for the info, have been waiting for this for ages. Out of curiosity, was the book cheaper this year though?

Oh look, amanso has reincarnated promoting her favorite doctor. Cleopatra, I thought you were highly recommending the doctor who did your veins on another thread? I am bumping this because I would actually love a real review on a doctor that does good work on spider veins. edited by Beebers on 12/04/2015 Beebers, you are right with Dr. Sobeh and I have nothing bad to say about him, he did an excellent job with my varicose and spider veins. However being one of the better doctors in town he does charge accordingly and my new insurance won't cover it :( hence looking for another option.

What exactly do you mean by parent involvement. I would prefer if there is less in my school, there is at least once a month a request to come to school about something (FS2) which is quite difficult when working full-time. It's also not fair on the child who then keeps asking me "why can't you ever come to school, all other mummies do"?

I hope someone can help me. I want to know, if you have the dog passport with all the current vaccinations and rabies shots, is it possible to enter the UAE from Oman via road with the dog. I have asked so many different places and all give a different answer. Has anyone done this successfully? Would that be just for a holiday or a permanent move? It is doable but it requires the same documentations as arriving by plane, which is extremely time consuming.

Hi all, we have to move soon and the prices are so high still. Anyway I was sick of turning up to look at a property that looked nothing like the pics and description. Found a new website which seems to be much better, the name put me off at first as I thought it was high end. (My budget is only 150-190k) but I have had a better exp so far. We have seen a few, anyway I know how stressful all this moving is, so I though I'd share it with you: https://luxsqft.com Good luck, am hoping to find something in the next 2-3 wks. On another note if anyone knows of a villa in the Springs/Meadows or Jumeirah for 150-190k pls let me know. We can only pay in 4 chqs, tidy respectful tenants. Thx peeps How many bedrooms are you looking for? I thought the villas in the Springs would definitely be within your budget

I had both my kids in City Hospital and was happy with their services. However the service was better with the first than with the second...it just seems to be the most favoured hospital at the moment and has very high volumes of deliveries there. Should I have another child I would use Al Zahra hospital on Sheikh Zayed road. So far have been very impressed will all the services I had gone there for and it is also much closer to home. The thought of going through labour pain and being stuck in traffic is just off-putting to go anywhere near Healthcare city;)

Even if she called the police, you haven't done anything wrong!! That doesn't really matter, I once got a fine because some ego driven driver called the police and reported me for something ridiculous. He was on the side of a back road, rolling along at walking speed as if to look for something so I overtook. This was the wrong move in his eyes as he then followed me, opened the window at the traffic lights, showed me the finger and contacted the police. I got a fine for 200 DHS without having done anything wrong.
