Sorry to be hijacking this thread, but I might have to ship something from the US and would love to get in touch with you DubaiCat. I've never heard of this Shop & Ship system and if all fails it might definitely be an option. If you would like to get in touch I would really appreciate it. My email is missbabsi at gmail dot com. Once again sorry and many thanks. :)

So far haven't encountered that problem as I'm quite strict when it comes to clearing up. Once finished with one toy it needs to be put away before starting with the next one. We argue about it sometime but it generally works and prevents things getting muddled up.

But you can't define it into working days as it will depend on whether you can split your holidays or not. For example, you wish to take 5 days off your annual leave you get in total 9 days off as this can be incorporated with the weekends. However if you want to go on a 2 weeks holiday starting on a Sunday you have to use up a total of 12 annual leave days. Hence, the more you are able to split your leave the more days you get with calendar days. I hope this makes sense ;-)

Can you believe it...HSBC is slashing their rates on a monthly basis. I just checked my account and the rate has gone down now from 2.75% to 1.5% in less then 4 months. I'm sure the big bosses still get their 6 digit plus bonuses...grrrh!

At the Ras Al Khor Automarket. If the car is in good condition, the Philipines/Manilla showroom is generally quite good. If it's by any chance an Armada, I would be interested ;)

It's sad to see people behave like that and I guess in this country more than anywhere else you get taken for a ride when one is generous and helpful. You are a good person and the dogs are very lucky to have you. I dread to think what she would have done with the dogs, if you hadn't been around.

I took my dogs several times in a taxi, but then I was cheeky and just got in the back seat and had them sitting on the floor. I guess it might be slightly more difficult if your maid will do it though. Pam paws is also offering a taxi service.

You can use the gel pots which get sold in the supermarkets and in the Tavola shop at MOE. They are not as hot but work fine. You just have to heat the oil on the stove first and maybe do the same again about half way through the meal should it get too cool.

Just a word of warning that dogs are nice companions but they also come with a lot of work and responsibility. I have had many friends who thought it was so easy, but it's not! Dogs need lots of attention and when they are puppies it can take several months to get them house-trained. They need to be vaccinated yearly and can have illnesses which brings costly vet fees. If you don't have anyone to look after the little chap while you are travelling then you will also face additional cost for Kennels. If these are things you have considered than good luck on your search. If you just want to give it a try, there are lots of Foster dogs around, especially over the summer months. I hope this didn't sound too harsh, but just keep looking at the poor rescued dogs faces and feel so sad that people buy them like teddy bears.

If I'm not mistaken, the Monarch has nice small function rooms. Also, there is a private club at DIFC, not sure if they cater for outsiders, but it has several rooms and it is ideal for small functions. Have been there a few times for some smaller events and the food is lovely.

The Toys r us shop is a decent size. In addition you have a massive DG Sharaf and an outdoor adventure shop, that sells anything from camping to diving etc. apart from that, there isn't really much else, a couple of no name shops.

For drinking we get Arwa and for the dispenser, which get's used for cooking, pets etc. we use Al Wasmi, purely because they deliver as soon as I call and don't work on a schedule.

There is a Crocs shop in the Dubai Outlet Mall, you can call them on 04 425 3555 to check to see if they have the size you want. The shoes are all half price or less. This was one of the few places I had visited, but no small sizes available.

The customer affairs email is the correct email for complaints. I had sent a complaint off recently and started to call after about 48 hours on a regular basis to make sure they got the point how important I thought my complaint was. I hope it will work out for you going there in person. Emirates seem to hide their managers and it is extremely difficult to find someone in charge, that actually cares. Fingers crossed for you...just hate the way they treat economy passengers these days, considering the prices they charge.

I do a weekly trip to carefour and a weekly trip to the fruits and veg market . I spend total dhs 600 a week for 3 adults this includes 3 pack lunches , breakfast and dinner, plus cleaning products. The biggest saving is the fruits and veg market. Much cheaper than carefour but also much better quality. Is it on every day? And what time is best?

This old chestnut, i have had this problem for years, everywhere here is so ridiculously expensive if you are big bossomed and require cup sizes, it drives me insane, Only other things i found are www.brastop.com, bravissimo, both online and deliver to UAE and both have a sale on, Braspot the cheapest but they do Freya and all them ranges some at just a tenner. Sorry to barge in, but is it easy to return items that don't fit?

We had an open bar for our 50 people wedding and would do it any day again. We decided that it would be best to save money on other things such as little decoration here and there and spoil them with good food, drinks and music. Our food and drinks budget was about 1/3 of our whole wedding budget and when the bill arrived we were bang on.

He must have the incorrect address. I'm using early bird on a weekly basis and have to say that they are the most reliable delivery company I've come across Dubai. Really can't fault them at all. I also stopped leaving money out, because have had it taken by passing people! edited by Cleopatra on 16/06/2011

Just pay it...Salik is one of the things you can't fight. No-one takes notice and you are always the looser. Experienced it myself the hard-way. I got charged twice for the same trips several times and it was showing on the system, but still didn't get anywhere other than a 50Dhs Violation fine.

do a home pregnancy test (you can buy them in any pharmacy, spinneys, carrefour) if it's positive goto hospital and ask for a scan to rule out ectopic I did and if my imagination didn't run away with me there might have been a faint line. I think I'm 6 days late today, so if it was a normal pregnancy the line should be strong. I had a trans-vaginal scan 4 days back as part of my normal check-up and it only showed the free fluid. So confused and definitely not ready for another baby.

Finally I should now be medically fit enough to start with some tough exercising. Before I make the start on the shred-it program, is there any equipment I need? Don't want to press play and find out that I can't do half of it. I am set to start this Sunday and it's all penciled in my diary. I hope I will be able to see a difference within the 30 days as this will be when I'm off on holiday. Shall keep you all posted on the progress. edited by Cleopatra on 15/06/2011

AnonDubai - the CT scan was done long time back in the UK Harley Street and it confirmed it but we then moved out here and he never went to see another doctor, just complaints about it. Has he had an endoscopy? Not yet, hence I would like to know which doctors you can recommend here.
