I'd be interested in knowing too. I'm sure you can buy the material/canvas from Dragon Mart, but I'm not sure whether they make them up to your size.

We usually keep it fairly simple, but this year my DS1 will be keeping all his fasts so I'll do something special for Iftaar & Suhoor. I'll probably add a different finger starter to our usual Iftaar of dates, fruit salad, water e.g samosa's, spring-rolls, pasties, chicken satay, chicken sweetcorn soup. DS is also going through a mango lassi phase, so I'll prob add this to our iftaar. This is followed by our main meal which is no different to what we eat at the moment. We usually decide on the day what we feel like eating; biryani, haleem, roast chicken, baked fish with roasted potatoes, chicken & mushroom pie....anything goes Also another family tradition when we were younger was to have either fruit trifle & fresh cream bramley apple turnovers as a treat after our Taraweeh prayers ;) Suhoor is always very simple with porridge/cereal or eggs and toast with plain lassi ( or laban) and tea ;) There's a few facebook pages if you're looking for new ideas; my favourite it Fauzias Kitchen Fun https://www.facebook.com/Fauzias.Kitchen.Fun?fref=ts Hope that helps? Ramadan Kareem :)

Coco pops, where do you buy the toffee sauce from? Is this available anywhere? I think it was Spinney's or Waitrose, by the ice-cream sauces....it was a while ago.

I use toffee/ toffee fudge sauce and it still tastes just as nice, plus it's quicker ;) I used Hershey's caramel sauce once, when I ran out of the toffee sauce, and no-one noticed ( or perhaps they were too polite to say anything lol)

The Aleppo soap doesn't leave a greasy film on your skin at all. It claims to be 100% natural. Sorry I can't advise on shampoo, as I use J & J with a bit of tea tree oil mixed in.

My children and myself all have dry skin. I used to use the E45 and emolients(?) etc. after bath-time every night. Since moving here I have discovered " Aleppo Soap", the main ingredients being Olive oil & Laurel oil. It can be used for hair and body, however we use it on the body only. I've not had to moisturise the children's skin at all anymore. The soap is available in Union Coop...not sure about anywhere else. HTH

Castalia items are very good for pores or for preventive measures for aging They are not really very expensive but very nice results Interesting, you recommend Castalia as being 'very good' in this thread but in the 'Skin Care Product' thread you started about Castalia products you are asking- "But I dont know if their skin care is good or no , anyone of you tried it ? " [url=http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic206218-skin-care-products.aspx'>link[/url'> Which is it? :s edited by Di@DXB on 22/05/2013 Yes I wondered this too! BTW where can you buy sandalwood powder from?

Sorry I seemed to have missed responding to this thread, after my earlier reply. I think you have to weigh up the pros and cons depending on the child and their strengths and weaknesses. Star isn't established in secondary education yet, but, I can see it being very successful in the future. Academically, secondary is very good, they push each child according to their abilities. Also, you need to think about GCSE's and IGCSEs and what route you prefer your child to take. I know this is changing, but, if I am correct, the current year 8 will be the last year to take these exams before the change. ( I could be wrong, I haven't checked recent changes) However, I feel, once a child reaches secondary age, they need to move on and socialise with their correct peer groups. Star doesn't offer much in terms of after school clubs for just the secondary section. Their Art, D& T,Drama & language facilities aren't on par with other secondary schools. I have no doubt this will change in time, as the school becomes bigger. I feel, they don't have sufficient experience in dealing with the challenges that come with children as they go through adolescence....but that's my take on it for e.g a young boy will not feel comfortable talking out his issues/feelings/changes with an older female member of staff. There is only one year 8 class, they will attend all lessons together, not like other secondary schools where, because of the size of classes they attend separate lessons according to ability ( thus expanding their social skills too IMO)...not everyone will get along, and this may/may not have a knock on effect on a child's confidence. Kids at that age can be quite mean ( at any age really!) I don't know what else I can add...only you need to go with your instincts. Every school will have pro's and cons it just depends on what your child will be happy with. Hope that helps? eta: Star would def be an option for my LO once they are of secondary age as I feel the school would have become more established by then, and the exam results will also be a good indication ;) edited by coco pops on 07/05/2013

I take my 11 year old son into the ladies with me if my DH or older son isn't around...simply because the disabled toilets are "mostly" located either within the ladies or the gents ( of course when they are independent we go there ). I've never noticed any dirty looks as such, but it's blatantly obvious why I have to do it, and if I were to get dirty looks it wouldn't bother me, there's no way I'm sending him into the gents toilets unaccompanied. ETA: that article is the exact reason why I do it.... edited by coco pops on 05/05/2013

I can relate to this with one friend in particular back home in the UK & her time-keeping was appalling too. I just said it to her one day..." will you please contribute such and such towards the petrol, because it's not fair how you always expect and assume without asking" her response was that I was going there anyway so what difference would an extra passenger make (!!!!!) anyway to cut long story short, I had it out with her and said look next time just catch a cab, train whatever then, I'm not picking you up and waiting for you when you can't even be bothered to be on time....she sulked, but now contributes as does everyone else. So yes we're still friends, but now I tell her I can't pick her up, if she wants a lift she has to come to me ( she didn't live locally to me). I don't mind if it's a one off or short journey's, but most my friends will always offer to contribute on long journeys, especially with the cost of petrol being so high. At the end of the day you are paying for the insurance and the petrol, while your friends are getting a free ride. They should think without being asked. At the risk of not wanting to sound petty and stingy we build up a resentment within ourselves towards those people, which isn't healthy in the long term. If they're your friends they'll be ok with it :) Good Luck

I'm hoping to download episodes 1-3 somehow,as it's not available on youtube. The rest is still available on catchup. ITV have some good dramas on. I enjoyed "The Icecream Girls" & I watched "Unforgiven" last night...it was good. "The Village" on BBC1 is also a good one recounting the life of the oldest man in Britain.

Spinneys, Lulu's & Geant will take the skin off the whole chicken and cut them into as many pieces as you like,if you ask them. I've never had a problem doing this. Carrefour & Union Co-op don't supply this service. Lulu's do however do cut chicken without the skin other than breast and leg, in the ready to buy section. HTH.

If the school was bad then you would see it all over EW. Since nothing has been written then it means its all smooth sailing. Trust me. These ladies will complain if something is not up to standard! Lol! That's not true though, I always thought threads get deleted if a school is complained about. But, I may have thought wrong :/ I remember last year when the swimming pool hadn't yet opened at Star and there was a thread on the matter which got deleted. There's a few things I could say about Star, but it's negative ( there's positives too) ,but there's no point, if it's going to get deleted....I just tell people if they ask me what my experience is with the school. In all fairness to the school, it's about the individual child, and whether the school suits that child....

It would just be nice if he respected and valued your opinions instead of dissing them. He sounds a tad bit of a control freak IMO. If you're unhappy with the situation, then only you can do something to change it, but rest assured you are so NOT a nag! Other posters have said so too :) I've become a nag over the years, I never used to be one though, God no, I was happy go lucky me. Now, I have 4 of the male species living with me, so imagine, I'm constantly having to repeat myself to them; pick this up after yourself, put that away, did you hear me? Well, if you did,why didn't you respond? I mean if they just said ok or even grunted in response I wouldn't have to repeat myself now would I? I am what you call a nag ;) life's too short to stuff a mushroom Love it :)

We were thinking to move out this year too, but I'm double minded. My children love the park and the beach access. But for me it's the convenience of no traffic in and out of the Palm & the convenience of the SZR when I'm on my school runs. My children's schools are all off Al Wasl Road, so for me it takes only 10-15 mins max in the mornings. I'm not sure whether I want to live in a community/area which will take me 20/30 mins each way just for school runs...it's a struggle getting out on time as it is!

Perhaps you could use distance or travelling time as a deciding factor? I had a friend who used to live in Falcon City, and her children attended DBS. She spent most her day in the car doing school runs, in the end they moved closer to the school. Just a suggestion though. Good luck with your decision, as both schools are good :)

I'm into my second year here and I've noticed a hike in prices too. I used to go to a butchers in Barsha that did lovely fresh lamb, but I've had to cut down, because it was getting too expensive, especially with a family of 5! At least one good thing is the price of petrol :D ; I went back to the UK a month ago and I was filling my car up for £90 (something like Dhs450!) here I fill it up for Dhs 80 and it lasts me a week!

Thank you ladies for replying. So, would you say a part-time asst accountancy role in the private sector for say Dhs 4000-5000 is an expected salary? I dunno, it seems kinda low, but it would be good to know what the going rates are likely to be so I'm not disillusioned when I start job hunting. Would I be better off temping, to gauge the market, even though I realise this would require working full-time hours. I know this is a decision I would have to make myself, as part-time jobs are very difficult to come by as it is. Thank you again.

I've just completed the 24 days of Cura Romana by Leslie Kenton which is the same concept using homeopathic HcG spray. I've lost 15lbs. :D Now that the 24 days are over I begin the 6 week maintenance or as the book calls it "consolidation" where you test foods to suit your body, thus eliminating or rather gaining knowledge about foods that don't sit right with our bodies, which in turn causes weight gain. I must admit, I found it tough, extremely tough, in the beginning, but once my body detoxed, it wasn't so bad.....food got boring though! The best bit is even though weight loss is so rapid, I'm not left with any loose skin, or wrinkles, as it targets the inessential fat. I would do this again :) edited by coco pops on 08/04/2013 edited by coco pops on 08/04/2013 edited by coco pops on 08/04/2013 edited by coco pops on 08/04/2013

My DD is slumming it in a "good" school, where they have great facillities, teachers, headmaster (although he is leaving his replacement has been hired internally so hopefully the ethos of the school will carry on) and her class size is about 14 (less than her London Prep school). Yes 14, but not out of the schools choice....There would be the maximum 20 in the class if they could have their way ;) ( I think this may be one of the reasons they are increasing class sizes to 22 ) Also, it is a "good" school but the secondary years are under a lot of pressure to perform well IMO, as they are new and a lot of parents and schools will be waiting to see how well they perform come 2016 when the students sit their first lot of exams ;) So pressure on the teachers & students ;) edited by coco pops on 18/02/2013
