You are very organised! Your travel plans are already finalised for Christmas! edited by AnonDubai on 31/08/2014 I haven't booked the flights yet but we'll have a 3 month old baby by Christmas, so I'm trying to get all my ducks are in a row asap (well, as much as possible!)

I agree it's too early to be buying things and seeing Christmas decs in the shops. BUT with Dubai life as it is, (people travel, family visiting etc) I don't think it's too early to be discussing flights/Christmas lunch reservations etc. Before we know it, it will be the end of September and everyone will be saying 'ohh, so and so is fully booked for Christmas lunch!'. Also thanks to the airlines jacking up their fares, it makes sense to get in early. Actually, it's not just a Dubai thing. I've been in contact this past week with many pubs/restaurants in the UK regarding our Christmas lunch booking and they are all taking bookings and have their menus finalised. I guess the early bird does catch the worm!

I'm seeing Dr Britt at City and like her very much. Yesterday I also saw Dr Anne and felt very comfortable with her as well. What's important to you? For me, it had to be a UK trained/experienced Consultant who was pro-natural. Dr George at Genesis is also excellent and delivers at City, although he has his own clinic. Some prefer not to see a man though - again, down to your personal preferences. Like Cherpie said, some of these Dr's are extremely sought after, so it might be worth first finding out exactly who your options are and making a short list from there.

Any of the big sport shops. I have a Reebok one that cost about what you plan to spend. Decathlon probably has good prices and maybe also worth checking the Outlet Mall. There are a couple of big sport shops there on the top floor that sell gym equipment

VZ, just wanted to let you know that I am seeing Dr Britt and when she is away, her colleague Dr Anne Phillip covers her patients. Dr George is who she refers her specialist scans to at 12 and 20 weeks. I'm actually seeing dr Anne next week as Brit is currently away (just incase I go into labour before she is back!) However, I'd have no qualms about seeing DR George for any future pregnancies as he is great (and I was initially wary of a male as well)

As far as I'm aware, sadly nothing has changed. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though! Also, don't think there is any 'paternity leave' as per Labour Law. It's up to the individual company whether it's included in their policy or not.

I actually wouldn't bother (and I used to work in recruitment). There are loads of good templates you can get online for free. Then use the money saved on a great new suit to wear when you get called for an interview ;0)

Hi Englishgirl, I just read your post and didn't want to dash off. I don't really know what to say except I'm a similar age, from UK, been in Dubai a long time and in my first pregnancy as well. If you feel overwhelmed, I'm happy to talk/meet. All the best

Have you tried a hot water bottle or cherry stone pillow in the microwave? I find they are quite comforting for pregnancy aches and pains

Absolutely not. What about after care or if there are post op complications a few weeks down the road?I know the price might be attractive but I just wouldn't take the risk. I had a friend who had a b**b job in Belgium (travelled from UK) because it was cheaper, found a good surgeon etc. she still had to keep going back to Belgium for follow up, infection etc. just not worth it in my opinion. I wouldn't gamble with my health, especially for an elective procedure. If I was going to do it, I'd find a reputable surgeon where I lived, even if it meant delaying the procedure

Resident or not, ignorance of the law does not mean it doesn't apply. If she was exceeding the speed limit (yes, I'm assuming that), then I don't see why she should appeal it.

Have you spoken to your Dr? Could be SPD. I had some discomfort early on that did go away after a week or so but my Dr said she would refer me to a physio if I wanted. Maybe that would be an option for you?

Noor, being pregnant myself I can imagine how stressful this is for you. All I would say is if you have the option to 'go home' you need to act fast as the cut off to fly is usually 36 weeks (but even then You would need to see a Dr. to obtain a 'fit to fly' letter. All the best and I sincerely hope you find a solution and the baby doesn't decide to come early!

Just wondering why a qualified midwife would want to work as a part-time nanny. I'm not trying to be antagonistic. Also, is 9-5 really 'part time'? It just doesn't seem to make sense to me

Fake Bake is my favourite brand and I'm lily white! It does look natural, even on me. I have seen their products here in a couple of random pharmacies here if you fancy DIY. Spray tans I've had usually do a light coating on the face and I sleep in dark bedding, shower off in the morning.

Hi ladies, hope you're feeling well. I'm also a FTM but a bit further along at 35 weeks. I was hoping to go to a Bumps & Babes meeting but it appears there aren't any scheduled in August (and I'm due Sept 10). Would Admin consider running one? There are clearly some 'bumps on board'! If not, perhaps I could join you?

Hi ladies, do you think it's better to use the hospital doctor where do you plan to deliver or bring your own doctor from outside? I need to change my doctor now because she doesn't do deliveries and just thinking what would be better option. We plan to deliver in City hospital. Personally, I prefer being 'In house'. I'm delivering at City Hospital with a CH dr. It's helped me feel familiar and comfortable with the hospital itself, which I hope will only help to relax and reassure me on 'The Day!'. Also, if you're self paying, I believe outside dr's are charged higher rates than in house so will cost you more for delivery.

I just started to feel mine recently :) Having anomaly ultrasound on Tuesday and hoping to find out the ***. Have you girls decided which hospital to choose for delivery? I am thinking about City Hospital but need to find a doctor who delivers there as my doctor doesn't do deliveries :( I'm at City Hospital (both antenatal and delivery). I have anomaly scan tomorrow with Dr George at Genesis. Excited! Hope to find out if we're pink or blue also.

mothercare is not good. I had in the last pregnancy and they were so uncomfortable!! I did got fitted there but the support is not good and at that time it was really needed to have one fast. My mother did got some with her and they were amazing and i am still using them. this time i am thinking to go to TKD as 5 months along and can feel the size change :) You will not be disappointed!

I second TKD. I was really stuggling for comfort in a Mothercare 36DD (the biggest they had). It offered no support whatsoever! I stumbled upon TKD by accident and was fitted properly in a maternity bra with flexi-wire. Bit of a shock to discover I was actually 40E! I cannot begin to tell you the difference in quality and comfort. I will never ever buy cheap unsupportive bras again! The lady in the shop really knows her stuff and her range is lovely. Bit more expensive but at least the bras I wear now fit, are comfortable and will last me into breast feeding.

I just discovered TKD (The Knicker Drawer), I think it was in Town Centre (the one on beach road with the Emirates shop at the front. I was struggling in a cheapy Mothercare bra in the wrong size that was next to useless and I could just feel it was 'wrong'. TKD fitted me in non padded, flexi-wire bras. I managed to pick up one that was reduced so the price wasn't so bad. But to be honest, even the full price ones were worth every dirham. They are so comfortable and supportive. Highly recommended. The English lady who fitted me (I think she is the owner) was lovely and knowledgeable. By the way, I was measured as 40E (yikes!!!), so you might be in luck with 42.

Your are right, although If you are registered with a DR at home and have a national insurance number and UK address they rarely check! That is why so many non residents give birth there for free. Most DRs will take you off their list after a few years and they will question why you aren't having your scans in the UK ( Squeeky bum time) I don't agree with people gaining free care when they are no longer residents however its your choice entirely I tend to agree with you - the healthcare system is already overloaded, especially maternity with the shortage of midwives. Personally, I'd have to be honest and prepared to pay any charges levied.

Congrats on your pregnancy. I'm pretty sure that if you've lived in dubai for 5 years and not been paying tax/national insurance in the UK, you'll not be entitled to free NHS care. I know someone who had exactly the same plans as you (ante natal in Dubai, NHS delivery in UK) and was presented with a bill because she was not entitled (due to the residency issue). Maybe someone else can give you more info, but make sure you research this very carefully. All the best

I believe it's not advised for the same reason as avoiding saunas/steam room - it raises the body core temperature too much. I'll be sticking with the prenatal yoga for now
