Why don't you get an E-gate card, then you won't get any stamps. It's a really easy (and surprisingly fast!) service

This may sound a little harsh but not declaring a pre existing medical condition is fraudulent and will only serve to push up eveyones insurance premiums in the future.

Ok I am sure this is a stupid question, but need to ask anyway... (I asked on pregnancy forum but didn't get any replies) If I have full insurance cover do I still need to purchase a maternity package from the hospital, or do I just pay as I go? Thanks Why not just read the policy or call your insurer to ask if it's not clear to you?

If you don't want her to do it, I'm afraid I'd be very tempted to do nothing... Let the postal service return it to her. It might make her think twice before doing it next year! Alternatively, is tell DH that he will need to retrieve the card (and go through all the hassle that will create!) as I am far too busy making arrangements/cooking for Christmas Day!

Thank You...... And no alcohol license required? Don't think so, although we've got one so not 100% on that. They never asked to see it, put it like that! I believe they only deliver to villas though, so worth knowing that if you're in an apt.

The show? Yes, I went last night. I really enjoyed the performance and thought it was great. The venue however was far from ideal in my opinion. Really lost that 'theatre' feeling. Everyone sat in long lines infront of the stage and I just felt the venue was too big. We went to the matinee yesterday at 5pm and we were seated in the silver section. Unfortunately the theatre was half empty, especially the most expensive centre 'platinum' seating. You can guess what happened.... as soon as the lights went down everyone was running over to get a better seat in the platinum area. I did feel sorry for the floor men who were trying to get everyone to return to their rightful seats (ie the ones they had paid for, not the higher priced ones) I do hope they learnt from last night and have a bit more crowd control for future performances. It was very off putting having people running backwards and forwards in front of you when trying to watch the stage! Oh and of course the mobile phones (on silent but my neighbour insisted on checking it every 5 minutes) and rude people chatting throughout the performance. But I guess you get that everywhere here!

Coffe Mate what was your bad experience, I was about to order from Meydan.... But dont want to spend Xmas sick... Hoping it was a packing issue or something rather than food related... The turkey was fine. The problem was everything else that came with it. I ordered the large package and literally got enough potatoes and veg to feed 4 people, at a push. It made Xmas day pretty stressful for a while as I was rushing round trying to cook up extras!

Fibber's for me this year. Ordered from Meydan last year and had a bad experience so wouldn't risk them 2 years in a row. And Fibber's will also deliver for an extra 50 dirhams

I definitely think they should sort out some of the grey alcohol laws. At the moment, you can't get a license without a visa, yet many tourists drink and there's bars in every hotel. You can drink, but woe betide you if you have any alcohol in your system! Tourists are on a visit visa, so don't need a license

Are there no possible indoor venues? I seem to recall an expat woman indoor event in the Springs a few years back. Or a school hall (good publicity for ECPS perhaps!!)

Maybe they'll hold a January sale! Joking aside, what a shame for all the people that work hard to make it a success. I was at the festive market at the south bank center in London just 2 days ago. There was rain, hail, thunder and freezing temperatures, but the show goes on.

I leave Cara's to the tourists now! There are plenty of other good guys in the G&D Park who don't get a look in. I've been using one particular one for years now and wouldn't go anywhere else. He's honest, I feel I get a fair price (not the 'tourist price'). I think it's better to pick a smaller outlet and build a relationship with them.

As everybody knows, the last week has been hellish. I don't have kids, I don't want to access the school. I just want to get to my own place of work on time! Unfortunately, that means having to fight my way on to the Al Ain road by leaving home half an hour earlier than necessary!! GRRRRR. From a peed off DSO resident!

A couple of alarm bells here. 1) the idea that baby teeth have no importance and b)the willy nilly use at antibiotics, especially on one so young. I'm surprised you were advised to not touch the unhealthy teeth, given that the child is in pain.

I don't think marycatherine was being negative, just very realistic. If the nursery are not paying for or providing accommodation I would think very hard about whether it would be financially viable. Most places still require payment of rent upfront (anything up to 12 months, instead of paying monthly as in the rest of the world). How old is your daughter? Would she be attending the same nursery for free? Like others said though, unless you get that written consent from the father, you won't be able to sponsor her in the first place. Good luck with the interview. If you get an offer then you'll know exactly what's being offered, as well as the all important figures!

Morning! I cant see any reason why it would be banned. If you have a whole case full they might suspect you are importing to sell maybe, but a few scattered amongst clothes would cause any concern (obv only my opinion!) I usually have half a dozen or so bottles of 'spray light' in my case when I return as its expensive and a bit hit/miss in shops.

eve Michelle is my fav. I'd be wary of 'high street' shops personally. Another guest might buy the same outfit! (maybe I'm just paranoid as it happened to me twice!) there is another great 'mother of the bride' designer called John Charles. My mother looked fabulous in hers! Don't know if there are any stockists here, but they sell online.

I would avoid Silicon Oasis, Cedre Villas. They have decided to start construction work to build new villas and daily we are subjected to the most dreadful construction noise, it rattles the entire villa. Can't wait to move out in 3 months. Really? We haven't noticed any disturbance at all..... (Yet?!)

I was going to say the same thing. I lost my D/L a few years ago. I just went the nearest police station (which at the time happened to be Rashidiya) and got a police report. Then I was sent to the RTA to get a new D/L. I think I had to pay for the new license, but don't recall it being too much of a drama otherwise. edited by coffee_mate on 05/04/2013

Unless you are on a group policy, I doubt any company would find it financially viable to cover an individual with a pre existing condition

CM did you use a planner or do this yourself and would you be so kind to share where you married etc? We got married at ChristmChurch JebelnAli, then went to the Park Hyatt for reception. The hotel provided a 'wedding coordinator' but I didn't have a WeddingPlanner. We had 55 guests including ourselves, so i felt no need for one. I actually think I'd have resented anyone else being involved. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of planning. Maybe if it was a large wedding my view on Planners would be different! If you want to know anything else, just ask!

I planned my wedding here last year and at the top of the list was the legal side of things. Where do you intend to actually get married? Church/Embassy/Dubai courts? This will depend on your nationality and religion (and that of your Fiance) After that, contact various hotels for quotes. Go to them with an idea of how many people, how long, what is required (F&B wise) and they will give you a quote. Congrats and enjoy the planning!
