Go for the Lira, and withdraw a lot of them, since you'll love it there and there are soooooo many things to buy. Excellent! Maybe I can get some extra birthday presents then! hahahaa.

I took MIL there last year and she loved it! I thought it was lovely too. We shared one between 2 and there was plenty. The 'champagne' tea was very nice (by that I do mean [i'>tea[/i'>, and not a code word for champagne!!)

Hi coffee_mate, We were in Istanbul for new years and we drew local money (Turkish Lira) from the Istanbul airport when we arrived. Everyone uses the local currency. The Euro is not very popular there, we had to pay the taxi in Lira, you also need Lira if you need to buy Travel Cards or just a sandwich form a shop. I guess most hotels accept Euros but that's about it. You are also more likely to get ripped off if you try to buy things with Euro. So I suggest you get some Lira when you arrive in Istanbul. Don't buy your Lira from here though as the exchange rate is pretty bad. You can draw money once you get to Istanbul either at the airport or near your hotel - there are plenty of ATMs around. I recommend the airport though so you don't have to stress for the rest of your holiday :) We absolutely loved Istanbul and I can't wait to go back there again soon. Enjoy!!! HTH :) Thank you! I will take your advise and get Lira's on arrival! Can't wait - it's my birthday trip!

Thanks HB. It's always good to be reminded of safety. Easy to forget that everywhere is not as 'safe' as Dubai!

Quick question for anyone who may know.... Which currency is best to take to Istanbul - Lira or Euros? I've read conflicting info and not sure what to change my dirhams into! TIA

You will also probably find that any new policy you take will be subject to a wait period of up to 2 years. It's not in any insurance company's best interest to let you start claiming immediately. Same idea with pregnancy.

I suspect the majority of those tickets were snapped up in the pre-sale. Agreed. That, plus the hotel packages left none for us! :(

im so upset!!! logged in from 11:30 to be sure i was not too late in queue and at 12 sharp 695 all sold out?? its not fair:( Don't be upset - I don't think we ever had a chance at getting the 695 tickets! I think Tonti is right - hotels took them for their rip off packages. I don't know why I'm surprised really!

Same here - we really wanted the 695 tickets but the website only allowed sales of the 495 or the VIP packages at 1000+. Decided to go for General admission in the end incase we ended up with nothing! Do you think the grandstand really sold out, or they are them holding back?

Yes I know but if the general release tickets haven't gone on sale yet, surely they can't be sold out already?!

Ah yes, might be a bit young! Seriously though, we absolutely loved it. I remember the great excitement of flying UM. So much so, we preferred flying without our parents because we got special treatment. It was such an adventure. My brothers and I still talk about it now.

So, you want an agency maid to 'live in' and work for you for up to 3 months, with 2 days off per month? No, I don't think that's allowed.

If you don't want to bear any costs, surely the only (legal) solution is to use an agency? Sorry, I don't really understand what you're asking

Does anyone know of any clinics in Dubai that have a iontophoresis machine? I've found loads of places that do the botox treatment (for hyperhidrosis), but wanted to try out the machine to see if it works, before I think seriously about buying one for home use. TIA

Bumping this if anyone knows a company that can deliver to Jumeirah Village Triangle Forgive me if this isn't the case, but I thought there was only one (extremely expensive) company allowed to deliver to JVT?

Did the first dentist take xrays? Just playing Devils Advocate here - lets assume he did and he could identify caries on the radiograph. Did the second dentist take xrays? If not, perhaps he couldn't see them with the naked eye? Just because you don't have pain yet doesn't mean there isn't an issue - its just not causing you pain[i'> yet[/i'> Capping teeth for simple cavities sounds a little extreme though, unless they were so huge that little natural tooth structure was left. Just food for thought. For complaints, DHA (or DHCC if appropriate).

If u have the opportunity to buy in the UK, I would do so. I ordered mine from a gorgeous little boutique shop in Suffolk. Came back to Dubai, found exactly the same dress in the Wedding Shop, AED 4000 more expensive. Of course, that's only convenient if you're travelling home anyway.

I never normally complain, BUT I did in HRC about the children. We were there until midnight and there were so many kids running around it was like being at a kids party. I asked what their policy was on children being in licensed premises after 10pm. The response? 'there isn't one madam!' Sounds like their 'love all serve all' has gone a bit far! Compare it to a Friday night in Rock Bottoms. they are actually not that different- booze, a band and burgers!

For some reason I have a feeling that there used to be a class at emirates golf club. I can't remember any other details, and it was possibly 2 years ago I am thinking of. Might be worth giving them a call though.

Oh no! This is a shame. It was handy just paying per class as and when. I guess if FF are in charge they won't allow that. I fell out with FF years ago over a c*ck up with membership and vowed never to set foot in their gyms again!

Does anyone remember a recent thread that contained a recipe for chocolate brownies made with black beans? They only had 50 Kcals each. I've just bought the beans to have a go tonight and now I can't find the recipe anywhere! I've searched each page thread by thread! The problem is I don't think 'chocolate brownie' was in the title, so a search doesn't work. Can anyone help me satisfy my chocolate brownie craving?!

Congrats! Best to contact the Church and your embassy for advise. I am marrying in Dubai (Christchurch though, not the Catholic church) later this year and we were told that one of the couple must be baptised. My fiance was, but has no paper to prove it. They said that is ok.

I'm just not convinced ANY pills, potions or lotions help. If they did, why would people with all the money in the world turn to extreme measures such as hair transplants (Elton John, Wayne Rooney et al). I do sympathise. For a woman especially, it must be a very stressful thing to go through.

As BellaUK said, have you contacted them? If you complete a self assessment for overseas, they recalculate your repayments based on your earnings. Mine came down to under a hundred pounds this year :0)

Hi Trixie. If you have a large group of ladies who need transporting from A-B, then hiring a limo is a good bet so you can keep everyone together. Bit tacky? yes but it is a hen party, so all part of the fun. If you split the cost between all the ladies, it works out quite cost effective per head (did this a few years ago for a friend). Ideas for activities: Cooking class at the Airport Meridien Spa days Karaoke - a private room perhaps/Hari Ghattos Night at the races (Maydan) That's all I can think of for now!
